Either way, Darius should probably not have done that since in putting what appears to be a personal vendetta ahead of the royal envoy's duty, he has very likely soured relations immediately and made the latter's job much, much harder or impossible.  Not that I suppose that matters to the crazy princess since I suspect that she has a vendetta of her own and would love to have the lot of them killed, but it will put the king on the spot and that may affect Gardenia's standing with its neighbours.
