Title: Cordata, Working
Post by: Nino on July 11, 2006, 11:26:56 PM
If anyone remembers, around Christmas I made some DMFA-based adoptables. The old set can be found here (http://www.fred.net/erickson/index/cordata/DMFA/OldSet.gif). And well they were pretty crappy, so I went and edited them with better shading and more details. I also added two of my favorite cast members, Abel and Regina. Here are the new ones:

(http://www.fred.net/erickson/index/cordata/DMFA/Dan.gif)(http://www.fred.net/erickson/index/cordata/DMFA/Mab.gif)(http://www.fred.net/erickson/index/cordata/DMFA/Pip.gif)(http://www.fred.net/erickson/index/cordata/DMFA/Lorenda.gif)(http://www.fred.net/erickson/index/cordata/DMFA/Jyrras.gif)(http://www.fred.net/erickson/index/cordata/DMFA/Wildy.gif)(http://www.fred.net/erickson/index/cordata/DMFA/Abel.gif)(http://www.fred.net/erickson/index/cordata/DMFA/Regina.gif)

Abel was done in his old outfit because his wings are just too awesome to leave off, though I suppose if I get bored enough I'll end up doing his recent outfit as well.

I might finish the entire cast (may or may not include characters from Abel's story) if I don't die of exhaustion first. Yeesh. My favorite is either Dan, Regina, or Abel... yeah, those wings pretty much took forever.

REQUESTS FINISHED:

Post by: Nino on July 19, 2006, 03:14:49 AM
Haha, thanks for the input guys... but are they cute? =P

Seriously though, I think it's awesome that everyone seems to like them. These things take about... oh, two to seven hours a peice (roughly; I don't count hours, but try and make one yourself if you don't believe me... I do original hair/wings/clothes/ears/tails for each of them) so it's nice to know that people actually like them.

Oh yeah, and feel free to use them in siggys if you want =3 Oh yeah -- if anyone wants the base for the adoptable if they want to make some themselves just ask and I can upload them. Poses: Standard, sitting, sitting (front view), and sleeping/laying down.

I wouldn't doubt they take a bit of time to do...I'm assuming you have to do a pixel by pixel approach in some cases?  The level of detail and quality is top-nifty.  If you do drop the bases, I might have to try making a Mikelo one...though I doubt it will be as nifty as what you can do. X3

*debates asking for a Miaka one... ah screw it.* If you have the time, perhaps could I ask for one? if you don't want to, that's fine.

HAHAHA

You think people would actually pay for these? Hahaha... That's funny. I actually wish I could do commissions though (not for these, but for regular art), but I have no idea how to set it up.

2 Things:

-I'm bored, so I'll take requests. Post here if you want one
-I'll edit this post with bases in a moment

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH I had no idea making a base sheet would take so long. And go figure; this uses like only half the stuff I actually made too (a lot of the older stuff was crap anyway though, so eh). I also put some examples in there of the more unusual ones I've done.

Hair and clothes must be done on your own.

To everyone: I'm being nice enough to let you guys make your own, so please respect that and don't go whoring them out without giving me credit ^__^

Amber: I'd love to see a Mikelo one <3 I bet you could do these 10x better than I ever could =P

I'm putting requests pending on the front page.

I'm tempted to make a request, just to challenge you. *smirk*

Also because it amuses me to make life difficult for people who try to draw my avatar - although IIRC, Amber did fairly well with the boxpron.jpg that isn't obviously linked on her site anymore (more's the pity) (oh, and it wasn't me either, although it's been a while now...)

See.. my avatar is a box. Nothing more, nothing less. Well.. ok, so he has sunnies and a trenchcoat, sometimes. :-)

Ah-HAH! It is time for teh me to request! Because I'm lazy and st00pid, I've just doodled a little something in MSPaint for a reference pic. Ta-dah!

Brown hair with white tips, grey fur, black stripes, black ring around eye, black ear, red t-shirt, yellow tabard, brown pants, dark brown belt, green eyes, pink nose and red converse. I forgot the tail, but it's just a regular grey tale with black stripes.

Simple as that. :U

I'm off to work on these. Hopefully I can get a couple done today.

Well, I did ask for one, but, meh.

I think the best reference pic I have would be my avatar.... so white/blue squirrel, very light grey for eyes, light blue hair, clothes would be either entirely black or entirely blue. (I know black is hell to shade well in MSpaint, so I'd say go with blue) If you feel like doing it, I'm prolly make one anyways, so.

Oooh, nifty. If you don't mind me saying, the eyes look kind of wonky, and the shade of green you use to outline the hair could be darker/less saturated. Other than that though not bad ^__^

Thanks for the base chart! I've done one of my character. It's not as good as yours, but I guess it's not bad for a first try.

Oooh, nifty. If you don't mind me saying, the eyes look kind of wonky, and the shade of green you use to outline the hair could be darker/less saturated. Other than that though not bad ^__^
Thanks for your input. ^_^ You made me look up 'wonky' in the urban dictionary. Are you referring to the eyes themselves, or the wite markings around them?

I tried different shades for the hair and settled for one with the same value as the other border, but I can always keep looking.

[Edit: ouch. Double-post. Sorry, it was an accident. If a mod comes, he/she can merge the two posts.]

If I'm allowed to get my life sorted out before getting back into comics, then I'm pretty sure you are more than free to take all the time you need before you even consider doing free images for the forum.

As both Xze and Amber said - take all the time you need.

Heck, it's not like we've commissioned you, paid, and have a specific delivery date. Absent -any- of those conditions, it's something you're doing "as and when you can", out of your own goodwill. And for that, we can wait.

Either that or we should grow up and get a life :-)

If you need the color anything changed, just ask (I made it yellow like the picture, but the one in your siggy is white so I wasn't sure). I wasn't sure about the hair... is it alright?

You know, wolfs (or canines in general) always end up looking feline on this base because of the structure, which is something that I havn't been able to fix yet. At least the ears look somewhat wolf-like; usually they're so similar to cat ears they make the finished result look even MORE catlike. Bah.

Anyway, hope you like it ^__^

This was super-fun to do, especially the piercings and the hair and tail. If you think the candy cane is out-of-character I'll gladly take it off (I couldn't resist going all-out with the peircings because the character sheet said they change all the time 0=D).

If anything needs changed just ask. And you said you wanted to do something for me in return, right? Well if you like it enough and have time I'd still love for you to draw me something ^__^ The only problem is that I still havn't finished a decent pic of my favorite character o_O How embarrassing... well it's 85% done anyway. So yeah, just pm me on here or Deviantart. But of course don't feel obligated to do anything =)

Sorry guys that these are taking foreeeeeeever. Gah.

Oh, and RJ, I'll edit your's if you really want, but seriously it's pretty impressive as it is. I really hate it when I come off as over-critical... I don't mean to be o_O

No, it didn't sound that way to me. ^_^ And I'd really appreaciate it if you did edit it...

Awesome; I'm glad you like it. I'm very happy with how it came out too; his character design was VERY intricate so I had to spend a lot of time on the little details... and little details don't always come out that great since you're working with pixels as it is =P

Looking forward to it!

*sneeks in again* I went ahead and did a quick edit of RJ's Kita Cordate. And by "quick" I don't really mean quick, I mean quick by my standards. Yeeeeah.

Umm umm umm... hmm. Well hmm, what do you think? I don't know if you want me to describe what I did, but here are some things:
-I added shadow under the hairline
-Added another shade to the hair to make the transition smoother
-Placed the highlights so they didn't hug the lineart.
-I have this technique I call "fake anti-aliasing." It's basically when a color is next to an unlike color and there's no lineart to seperate it (the red in the ears to the grey, the black to lavender in the hair, the purple to grey in the tail) I stick a couple pixels of transition color to easy the seperation. This isn't always necessary, especially if there's only a small amount of one color (freckles, for instance). Basically you just have to eyeball it to see if it looks okay.
-I changed the palette just a tiny bit so the color of the clothes didn't look so much like that of the fur

Oh yeah, and I did a version with the same hair in a darker pallette so you could see the details in the hair a lot easier, and plus my friend Evelyn is really into the whole furry thing, so I figured I might as well make a Cordate of her fursonna (sans clothes... I'm lazy):

I'm going to go back to finishing requests now =) I might not get any done until after the weekend though since I'm going to be without a computer for a couple days starting tomorrow though.

But no higher... I like 1600% for detailed pixel work.

Also, MSPaint has indexing problems... saving as .gif almost never works like it should...

Woah, no more off-topicness. This thread is long enough =P

Everything's fine, I'm not confused. I'll resume these when I get to college, it's been a hectic week but I'm going back Friday. I'll try to do Matilda.

I have to say now though, no more requests. It will take me long enough to get the ones I owe done.

Just let the thread go until Katt has something she wants to post. There is no point in posting here if it does not contribute anything constructive.

Sorry guys, college has taken it's toll. I may be able to start these up again by Christmas if you all will still be here (this is why I had originally said 5 requests at a time -- I shouldn't have been so lenient about that).

Its ok, we know how annoying and busy real life can be sometimes, especially with college *is also a college student*. Take your time and do things when you -want- to. :)
