Title: Dreams of the Past (OOC. Mature Themes)
Post by: Paladin Sheppard on January 06, 2011, 08:14:57 AM
Your eyes open and stare at the early morning sky, blinking you sit up and look at the remnants of a camp fire.

You can not recall where you are, only pretty sure that it isn't where you went to sleep. And every thing you do remember seems as if a dream...

Resting in your hands is a worn but very well maintained (Pistol, Machine Pistol, Sub-machine-gun, Shotgun, Rifle, Assault Rifle, Marksman Rifle, Sniper Rifle, Grenade Launcher, Rocket propelled Launcher (one of only except for pistols and MPs) ) which for some reason you know is yours and you have carried for what seems forever.

You may (or not) half recall having had the mightiest of magics at your command but when you touch that part of you that taps into it it seems dimmed and weak.

You may (or not) vaguely remember being able to lift small boulders or cutting through metal with your bare hands, but now only feel as strong as a dedicated weight lifter.

As you are collecting your thoughts the silence around you is shattered as a large truck passes nearby. It seems the Camp is only off a major road by a few tens of meters.

Then you realize you aren't alone, and there are others at the camp fire looking just as bewildered as you....And they are armed...

After the destruction of the world tree the Dwarf Casidebie took the warrior and moulded her into a skilled and talented Paladin.

When the Argent Dawn was founded Casi and Kandela were quick to join. Whilst Kandela was sent to Northrend to assist in the destruction of the Undead Scourge, she was not part of the attack on the Icecrown Citidel, instead leading a holding action on the flanks.

Never questioning his orders and fiercely loyal to the Empire, skilled and ruthless, he made an excellent soldier, and by the age of nineteen he was made a member of a Special Operations unit, carrying out missions behind enemy lines. Living in the company of fellow soldiers, Ray always somewhat looked down on the civilians, sharing the belief of many soldiers that they were a superior caste. Yet at he same time he was an awkward youth with no social skills and a rather vague concept of peaceful life. By twenty one he was promoted to lieutenant, and his military career was starting to really look up as the Empire was starting to win the war against the United Principalities of Kadagan.

since it wasn't answered in the interest thread, can my character have a taser or stungun (or both) as his weapon(s)?
Title: Re: Dreams of the Past (OOC. Mature Themes)
Post by: Paladin Sheppard on January 06, 2011, 07:33:54 PM
As most tasers I have seen are about the size of a small handgun yes.
Title: Re: Dreams of the Past (OOC. Mature Themes)
Post by: techmaster-glitch on January 06, 2011, 07:38:20 PM
The stungun is also about the same size, but it's the one you actually press against someone, and it'd be useful to have both, and quoting from your last thread

Quote
As for the limit...This isn't a FPS so you realistically can only carry say a rifle and a pistol, or a GL and a MP, but not a RPG and an Assault rifle.

Is it allright if I have both?

With friends, Salem seems an entirely different person.  Friendly, playful, and even a bit of a joker.

Raised from the beginning as a shadowhand agent, Salem was taught combat from the moment he could hold a gun.  In fact, he was purpose bred for being a superior infiltrator.  He developed more personality than most, and, at the age of 16, he started performing missions.

By the age of 24, Salem had accomplished his 100th mission, and was well on his way to placing into the officers corp.  However, he failed the entrance exam, and continued his field-work.  By the age of 27, he had become quite the veteran, and yet, none of the slaughter seemed to bother the young man.  He was consistently partnered up with an agent known as Darkshine.  The pair worked well together, and the last thing Salem recalled before waking up in the forest, was finishing a planning session for a hit on an insurgent cell's hideout, in an old industrial complex.

I'm kinda interested in playing... Could I have an aphrodisiac as my weapon on waking?

EDIT: It was pointed out to me over IRC that this is a very troll-sounding statement, so if I may, I'd like to clarify. Yes, this is a serious question. I want to try playing a face character, as it is something I haven't played before, and I felt like an aphrodisiac would be a weapon fitting for this character's personality and style. As it is both a very strange and non-combat item, I also believe this would provide an interesting challenge personally, both mechanically and in terms of roleplaying. If this is inappropriate for the setting or rating planned, just say the word and I'll go with a more combat-usable weapon. Sorry for the confusion! :animesweat

Full name: Cinna Dian

Nickname(s) or Alias: none

Gender: Female

Species: Saedra Mythos (Rabbit)

Age: 22

Nationality: Saedra Mythos (which is basically none)

Religion: Hazhan (God of potential, patron to the Saedra clan)

City or town of birth: None, the Saedra are nomadic.

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

Height:  5'6"

Weight: 120 lb

Figure/build: Athletic (Saedra are naturally slightly stronger and more agile than beings but no more resilient, and it is only those who focus on improving their body that outstrip beings. Cinna is quite strong and agile for her size and build; along the lines of some of the upper levels of being athletes.)

Hair colour: Black

Hairstyle: Long, usually tied back

Eye colour: Green, with her third eye being sapphire blue.

Skin/fur/etc colour: Grey with white mittens and boots, and a white patch on her right cheek.

Tattoos: None

Scars/distinguishing marks: white patch of fur on her white cheek. Cinna has a third eye on her forehead (mentioned above) that allows her to percieve auras. While looking through it, she sees auras that are overlaid on to what she would normally see through her other eyes. Since looking through both sets of eyes can be tiring after a while, she usually just periodically glances out of her third eye rather than using it like she does her other eyes.

Preferred style of clothing: Light Armor

HEALTH:

Smoker? Only when she's on fire.

Drinker? Of many things, mostly water based, but occasionally imbibes alcohol in social situations.

Any physical ailments/illnesses/disabilities: None

Any medication regularly taken: None

PERSONALITY:

Cinna has a very optimistic personality. She can be described as perky, or bubbly at times, but she gets along with others very well. Cinna absolutely adores anything fuzzy or cute (both is a plus) especially her own tail which is he pride and joy. She has a habit of picking up shiny or interesting looking stuff as well, and typically keeps a piece or two as a memento.

Fears/phobias: none

Favourite colour: Green

SKILLS:

Cinna is an accomplished Seer.
Saedra are naturally more agile than normal folk, acrobatics comes naturally to them and Cinna is no different. She is an accomplished Acrobat.

COMBAT:

Peaceful or aggressive attitude? Peaceful, she typically avoids conflicts if she can.

Fighting skills/techniques: Cinna typically uses an acrobatic fighting style by utilizing a staff and generally avoiding retaliation. More often than not, she bides her time till her opponent makes a mistake, or she can make her escape.

Special skills/magical powers/etc:

Luck Manipulation: Cinna can siphon luck off people and either stores it, uses it herself, or bestows it onto others. She typically siphons a very small portion of luck off of every person she meets and, as the ability is innate to her race rather than a spell, it typically goes unnoticed unless she decides to focus on one person in particular. This means that where she goes there typically is a rash of very minor mishaps (stubbed toes, cant open drawers because that one ladle shifted sideways, ect) follows, but most people tend to hand wave it away.

There are two methods in which she can siphon luck away. The first is where she concentrates on her target, and she can slowly wick luck away. This style is nigh undetectable, can be performed within a moderate distance, but is very slow. The second method requires that Cinna strike the target with any melee attack, at which a moderate portion of luck is stripped away in a blue flash. Regardless of which method she uses, Cinna can only steal luck from one source. And, should she change targets, her previous target no longer looses luck, but at the same time they still do not regain the luck stolen from them.

Those that have had their luck stolen, will find that their Luck evens out over time.

Magic: Cinna has trained extensively in divination, though she does practice some nature, fire, and lightning elemental magic on the side. She is no archmage, with her strength in the ability to cause roots, plants, or vines to move to either ensnare people or provide assistance in moving through an area (providing footholds and whatnot), in terms of combat she is only capable of minor blast of elemental damage.

Dowsing: Cinna can try and determine whether an action will yield favorable results. The three possible answers she can receive are yes, no, and no result. The farther into the future she tries to determine a result the more likely it will return with no results.

Location Finding: by using a pointer and a focus related to her quarry, Cinna can locate a person or object. The spells strength and accuracy is depending on how close the focus object is related to the target. Actually having held, or met the target is more accurate than having to use something the target wore or rested on which in turn is much more accurate than just a description or name.

Item Reading: By touching an item or person Cinna can catch glimpse of their past. The longer she concentrates the farther backs he can pull snatches of visions from.

If used on a person, the ability allows her to see random snatches of their life, unless they concentrate on a particular moment, at which she then sees that moment in full. When reading from a person, Cinna is only able to sense what that person could observe. That is if they were blindfolded she wouldn't be able to see. Deafened and she wouldn't hear.

Aura Viewing: Cinna can see people's auras through her third eye. The auras she sees is a combination of the person's disposition, magical and physical strength, and emotional state. She can identify any aura she has had a chance to study and memorize, but can only guess at unknown auras, though being auras tend to be the least powerful. The aura viewing can penetrate thin barriers such as thin wood doors or cloth tents, but any thicker barriers blocks it.

Auras can be easily modified, typically with magics.

BACKSTORY:

Cinna was born into a traveling clan of Saedra Mythos who practiced their trade as seers going from town to town. At the age of 18, Cinna was struck with an extreme case of wanderlust and set off on her own to "see" the world through her own eyes, and away from her family. She immediately headed off to the first major city, where upon she spent the next two years between making friends, studying being culture and earning her way through gambling. At the end of the second year her luck manipulation had caused the local crime boss to make a major mistake which resulted in the police breaking up the gambling ring there. Unfortunately this mistake revolved around Cinna and she was now a target for the criminal organization, so she packed up her bags and decided to continue wandering.

The last thing Cinna remembers was curling up under her sleeping blanket in between towns.

Inumo: This is somewhat of a serious RP and the storyline I have in mind somewhat requires a firearm. If you still have an interest please PM me with a character. ( If you aren't failure with small arms let me know and I can suggest something for you)

Squirrel: I did ask for Character sheets to be sent to me for approval first, but so far I can see nothing objectionable, but I do wish to ask what kind of 9mm pistol? Every one is unique hand has its own oddity.

Eh... sorry I missed that, I didn't see it at the bottom of the character sheet Wall O' Text.

As for the particular gun? I dont know, I just figured some 9mm pistol, but if you really want the specifics, Beretta 92FS (M9)

Hug da police.

Full name: Angel Alazraqui
Nickname(s) or Alias: G
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Age: 32
Nationality: Spanish-American
Religion: Catholic
City or town of birth: San Francisco, Parallel United States of America

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

Height:  5' 11 ½"
Weight: 154 lb
Figure/build: Athletic
Hair colour: Black
Hairstyle: Cornrows
Eye colour: Black
Skin colour: Very lightly tanned
Tattoos: None
Scars/distinguishing marks: Canine bitemarks/scars on throat, usually covered by wearing high-collar shirts.
Preferred style of clothing: Light formal wear off-duty, light vests and padding while working.

HEALTH:
Smoker? No
Drinker? No
Any physical ailments/illnesses/disabilities: None
Any medication regularly taken: None

PERSONALITY:
Angel has a pleasant, not particularly notable demeanor while off from his duties, but a considerably more solemn one when the occasion calls for it. Not to say he can't laugh at a joke or see the grim humor in a desperate situation, but he tends to compose himself very professionally, especially when others are watching. He is often slow to trust others, but not to the extent of looking like a quiet, suspicious jackass.

Fears/phobias: None
Favourite colour: Teal

SKILLS:

Angel has knowledge on the basic use and upkeep of firearms, in addition to above-average mechanical talents (car repair in particular).

COMBAT:

Peaceful or aggressive attitude? Peaceful. Unlike other officers in his district, Angel does not support coercion or other forms of threatening behavior.

Fighting skills/techniques: When up-close, Angel tends to use techniques of a grappling and disabling nature to avoid needlessly brutalizing his opponent, mainly holds and elbow smashes. Unfortunately, his technique is more suited to handling one person at a time rather than several at once. That's what backup is for.

Though in any and all situations, he likes to put as much distance between himself and the target as possible.

Special skills/magical powers/etc: None

BACKSTORY:

Angel was born the first of three children, the third generation in an upstanding Spanish-American household: police officer for a father, accountant for a mother, a punk for a younger brother and a kid sister with more smarts  than he and his brother combined. Like his father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Angel took to law enforcement at an early age, enrolling and graduating from San Francisco's local academy with flying colors. He is not driven by a sense of upholding a great ideal or keeping the dangerous in check, but rather, he's driven by the need to protect and serve others. For him, there is no greater reward than saving a fellow man's life, or giving children a safe street to walk to school on.

At 32, he has a position on the SFPD's SWAT team as a sniper, though performs adequately as a spotter, scout, weapons expert, and communications officer as well. Could have made lead, but just didn't have the stone-cold nerves to command others against the horrors lurking in a parallel universe San Fran.

WEAPON IN HANDS ON WAKING:

FN Five-SeveN handgun
Remington 700P rifle

CLOTHING UPON WAKING:
Black BDU cargo pants, black BDU shirt, Men's Air MT waterproof boots, navy blue bandana.

Okay, got this approved...

BASIC INFORMATION

Full name: Christopher M. Fawkes

Nickname(s) or Alias: Old man, Fawkes, and once upon a time... Monsoon

Gender: Male

Species: Human - Angelic

Human Age: 70-90

Nationality: Horde

Religion: Agnostic/Belief that nothing actually really exists.

City or town of birth: Linsunatha

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

Height:  5'8''

Weight: 150lbs

Figure/build: Wiry

Hair colour: Silvery

Hairstyle: Slightly long in front hanging loose with excess growth in back pulled loosely into a ponytail, just past shoulders. It's been a while since he cut his hair.

Eye colour: Slate, kind of the gray color you'd see in an overcast sky.

Skin/fur/etc colour: White, slight tan, but mostly pale, and a few wrinkles here and there. Wings are similar in color to eyes.

Tattoos: An old lightning bolt on the inside of his right wrist

Scars/distinguishing marks: None

Preferred style of clothing: Somewhat upclass but not too expensive. Khaki pants with collared shirt and vest, but worn casually. Usually wears a dark cloak that marks him as a wizard in his world.

Given Impression: This old man seems to be frail and faded away at first glance, as if all the color and life had been washed out of him by long years of hardships. A closer look will show this to be untrue via his strong grip, way of holding himself, and a certain look in his eyes. While he may not always act it, this man is far from old and out of touch with life.

HEALTH:

Smoker? No

Drinker? No

Any physical ailments/illnesses/disabilities: Not unless you count old age.

Any medication regularly taken: None

PERSONALITY:

Described by many as a crotchety old man, this fellow has definitely seen better days. He long ago lost hope for the younger generations and would probably be more depressed about the future if he didn't believe that there wasn't a point to anything anyway and that nothing was actually quite real. This has lead him to acquire a non-caring attitude about many things, though he still goes through the motions of caring. Whether this is from habit, a still surviving deep down belief that things actually DO matter, or something else entirely is something that he doesn't quite know.

Fears/phobias: While not quite a phobia, Christopher will go out of his way to avoid getting mess on him that doesn't come off easily (syrup, mud, and other sticky stuff)

Favourite colour: Silvery-gray/blue

SKILLS:

Once upon a time, Christopher was a very accomplished weather mage and a top member of a guild (membership marked by his lightning bolt tattoo) responsible for regulating weather where he came from. However he has long since retired and besides, his magic in this new world doesn't really work right anyway. He has retained a strong knowledge of weather systems and other academic pursuits such as cosmology, physics, and math. He is quite intelligent and very good at solving problems (logical or otherwise) when he puts his mind to it.

COMBAT:

Peaceful or aggressive attitude? Peaceful

Fighting skills/techniques: Knows more aggressive techniques from his younger days, but currently is more fond of a tai-chi like martial art that use the movement and attacks of opponents against them.

Special skills/magical powers/etc: Spells with elements related to weather such as snow, ice, winds, electricity, passable with fire and water, downright crap with earth. Tends to use magic similar to how he fights physically these days.

BACKSTORY:

A bright and promising student when he was young, Christopher picked up many skills in his youth and managed to join the elite ranks of society and politics. However over the years he grew quite disillusioned with his society as a whole, and the ranking structures in particular. Not really caring enough to try to change things (after all, the system did work after a fashion for all that it was corrupt and such) he retired and removed himself from most of the equation to live in a manor on a cliff by the sea where he has lived ever since.

He occasionally will pay visits to society, or keep in touch with friends but for the most part doesn't like to deal with the social games the elite often play. He was once forced by politics to take on an apprentice, and it was a horrible experience for both him and the unlucky apprentice who really wasn't all that great. After that his old life mostly left him alone until one day he fell asleep in his library while doing a bit of light research and woke up in the described setting.

WEAPON IN HANDS ON WAKING:

A somewhat old fashioned looking kingkobra revolver with a modification to hold seven shots. Engraved on the side for inexplicable reasons is the word 'Leo'

CLOTHING UPON WAKING:

Cargo pants and a long sleeve shirt with boots, a light jacket, and a vaguely australian looking hat. Like the rest of him, his clothing is somewhat muted in regards to color with black pants, dark blue shirt, and dark gray jacket.

I bet an upcoming character is a rat. Possibly by the name of Gabriel. And SquirrelWizard already has a rabbit, which I think counts as a rodent. Or maybe this is a universe of rodent people in general.

Any physical ailments/illnesses/disabilities: None

Fears/phobias: No major ones.  Small crawling things tend to bother him a little from perceived uncleanliness.
Favorite color: Blue

SKILLS:
As befitting his Iteration-X membership Tommaso is both an accomplished inventor of advanced technology as well as an accomplished medical doctor.  His focus was, of course, biomechanical integration, but he also studied emergency medicine as a matter of necessity.

COMBAT:
Peaceful or aggressive attitude?  Perfunctory.  He would rather not have to fight, but confrontations can't always be avoided, so he tries to finish them ASAP.

Special skills/magical powers/etc:
Dimensional Science (spirits and alternate planes):  No training.
Mind (the mind and intellect):  No training.

BACKSTORY:

Glock-20
Steyr AUG Para 9mm with suppressor and 1.5x telescoping sight

BASIC INFORMATION

Full name: Tor Blackwind
Nickname(s) or Alias: Bolt
Gender: Male
Species: Coyote
Age: 28
Nationality: Quamyztepek
Religion: Shamanistic

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

Height: 6'1" (185 cm)
Weight: 205 lbs (93 kg)
Figure/build: Athletic/muscular
Hair colour: Dirty blond
Hairstyle: Shoulder length
Eye colour: Sky blue
Fur colour: Greyish brown to tawny
Scars/distinguishing marks: Jagged, lightning bolt shaped scar across the right side of his face and eye. His right eye has a slightly cloudy consistency, but it doesn't seem to affect his vision. (If anything, he can see better out of that one.)
Preferred style of clothing: Comfortable, loose fitting clothing and flowing outerwear like ponchos or cloaks. He's not opposed to dressing up for a night on the town, however.

HEALTH

Smoker? He's been known to smoke all sorts of things when communing with spirits, but only on special occasions.
Drinker? You mean it's not full of vitamins and nutrients?!
Any physical ailments/illnesses/disabilities: None
Any medication regularly taken: None

PERSONALITY

Playful and easygoing. While normally content to play the folksy outdoorsman, he's an inquisitive sort and readily geeks out over topics of intellectual interest.

Fears/phobias: He gets uncomfortable in enclosed spaces where he can't see the sky.
Favourite colour: Blue

SKILLS:

Naturalist by vocation. Warrior by necessity. He's an expert hunter, trapper, scout, and marksman. He can also cook a mean chili.

COMBAT

Peaceful or aggressive attitude? Peaceful
Fighting skills/techniques: Although proficient in close quarters combat, he avoids direct engagements in favour of guerrilla tactics, such as laying traps, ambushes, or reducing high value materiel and personnel targets from long range.
Special skills/magical powers/etc: Once upon a time, the spirits of the sky were at his beck and call, but now they seem distant... unresponsive. He retains enough power to summon short gusts, strong enough to knock back a man-sized target (or cushion a fall, extend a jump, etc.). His senses (especially scent and nightvision) are far keener than a normal human's, and he has a sixth sense for the flow of wind in his vicinity.

BACKSTORY

In the dream, he is crouched on a mountainside, not unlike the ones he climbed as a boy in childish attempts to reach the sky. A lifetime ago. With the Elder dead, it falls to him to rally the people. The first rays of dawn creep across the village below, but the rooster's call goes unanswered by empty streets. Survivors have taken shelter against the coming storm.

He senses their approach before they appear on the horizon--dark shadows upon the wind. Great winged beasts, vanguards for the invasion, swoop into the valley. He lies in wait for the perfect moment. Without warning, their leader disappears in a torrent of thunder. Smoking remains corkscrew to the ground. The beasts scatter. He grins, picturing shocked faces on the troops below.

The flying beasts regroup in formation and veer towards his position, belching thunderous flame. Time to leave. He dives off the cliff. Moments later, the rockface behind him explodes. All around him, the spirits are laughing.

WEAPON(S) IN HANDS ON WAKING

Accuracy International AS50 semiautomatic rifle with suppressed muzzle brake, 5-25x scope, detachable folding bipod, ghillie wrap, and carrying sling/harness; 5 round box magazine (currently loaded with .50 BMG API).

Just clearing up a point of very confusing (to me) grammar:

"She looked at the Rabbit thing that had a third eye who had tried to introduce itself, and realized while the Rabbit had spoken it was not in any language the Tauren knew she had clearly understood it."

I highly suggest: "..., and realized while the Rabbit had not spoken in any language the Tauren knew, she had clearly understood it."

When I first read your post I started to think that we weren't supposed to understand eachother, which was news to me.  I started to get very confused.

PS  How much are we allowed to remember about the "dream?"  If my character has near full memories of the "dream" then his reactions will be worlds different than they would otherwise.

Well my character had a somewhat exagerated reaction to the blast which is partly cause he's old. But if we end up facing more of these on a basis frequent enough to put my character in severe danger due to this, I'm going to retcon that this first time was so bad because the shock of the situation PLUS the blast gave him a heart attack and future instances will have this not happen.

In regards to the everyone noticing Wraith sneak off thing... I had actually noticed the obscene amounts of people who had noticed him sneak away and intended to ask in my next post if I could go back and say my character did not in fact see him leave. My original thinking was that his sole method of cover was just that he trusted everyone to be distracted so it would make sense that my character, who wasn't actually paying attention to anything in particular, might have noticed him leave. In retrospect however, I think having a near-heart attack would be sufficient distraction in this case and honestly... the only thing more embarrassing than being the only person not to notice something is to have someone sneak away and have EVERYONE notice.

I was originally going to say this in the IC post... but it sorta got long so I moved it here. Anyway, I put the section where my character noticed him in strikeout as a tentative edit assuming it's okay to fix that. I know sometimes people can get touchy about too much retconning and such.

I'm gonna update this for future referance, but...

Cinna has two ears and three eyes, and she doesn't always look out of her third eye, because that eye always percieves things as auras, which can be a bit of a strain when you are seeing both auras and normal vision at the same time.

It would be like walking around with one eye seeing things normally, while the other had secret agent style x-ray vision.

Good God Inumo.  If our characters were really having this conversation in the world my character is from, then yours would end up in a secret lab somewhere really quick to figure out whether you were a Marauder.

If anyone doesn't know White Wolf's World of Darkness like I do, a Marauder is a mage who has lost his mind to magic.  He/she no longer suffers backlash for practicing visible vulgar magic, but his/her mind has become one with the delusions his/her magic creates from his/her subconscious.  Essentially the world seemlessly warps to fit the delusion for as long as the Marauder is nearby, and then it, also seemlessly, goes back to normal when the Marauder leaves.  If the Marauder believes that he is Merlin, then everything within a certain radius will change to look/behave/believe like they are from medieval Arthurian England.  The buildings will change to match the delusion, the people will change, and even the landscape will.  The Marauder him/her-self is just as confined by the rules set up by his/her own delusion (IE, one who believes he is Merlin will at no point behave in a Merlin would not, including magical abilities)  Nothing will remember having not been a part of the delusion.  When the Marauder leaves the area then everything will go back to the way it was before, and nothing will remember the delusion.  By virtue of their nature only supernatural beings have a measure of defense against becoming part of the delusion and being able to retain their memory.

The situation our characters are in fits to a T the effects of a Marauder delusion.  And Sifa's vehement denial would make her the current best suspect for being the Marauder because the characters aren't "fitting the delusion."

:P   :)

Many fursuit makers have come up with interesting designs for twichy mechanical tails (animatronic servos, tails that react to shoulder motion, and so on). Besides, cognitive dissonance can produce all sorts of perfectly rational reasons to ignore reality. Sifa's reaction actually seems pretty normal... :3

Umm... do we even GET to know what's in our packs or can we make that stuff up? Cause GM seems to have ignored three people checking their bags by now. If so, let me know so I can stop idling my character?

At this time I was waiting till I had enough people in a group action, Saturday rolled round again, or something significant affected the plot, as this was (what I thought anyways) an established pattern.

But I can make GM posts if requested.... :B

heh, I'm still figuring out how this RP is going to function I guess ^.^;

It's odd I guess... having the GM as both a player and a narrator.

Could you give us some help orienting ourselves? (At least one of us found a compass in our packs, and east is obvious in any event thanks to the sunrise.) Like... which way does the creek run, which way is the crash site, and which way did truck go when we woke up (assuming that bit in the OOC intro is still canon)?
Title: Re: Dreams of the Past (OOC. Mature Themes)
Post by: Paladin Sheppard on February 07, 2011, 11:17:25 PM
Well now :3 I'm sure I could but wouldn't that be a little meta'ing? I mean no one has bothered to check...

And as for the OOC intro that was superseded by the IC intro.

Also Tez, Salem should no longer have the skunk smell as got rid of his shirt.
Title: Re: Dreams of the Past (OOC. Mature Themes)
Post by: Tezkat on February 08, 2011, 12:20:15 AM

Huh? How would that be meta'ing? :B I'm just asking for player clarification of something that's obvious to our characters. We have a morning sun to help orient ourselves with respect to cardinal directions, which was presumably the only way our characters knew the energy wave came from the east. And we currently have two highly visible and/or audible landmarks (the creek and the crash site). Kandela has set off "upstream", but you haven't told us which way that is relative to the exploding plane or the apparent source of the energy wave even though it could significantly impact how our characters behave. (It certainly would for mine...)

As for the skunk perfume thing... I'm gonna chalk that up to a memorable first impression that will follow Salem around long after his next few baths. >:] Although I am assuming that Bolt has retained his superhuman sense of smell in this world, it being the result of canine physiological features rather than magic...

Well seeing as many of the people here are not from earth how do they know the sun is in the east? And as far as I can tell no one has actually checked with a compass which direction either the wave nor the bomber was flying, let alone the direction the creek is flowing.

As for Bolt's nose, yes his physical sense of smell will be higher than a humans.

Why do I get the feeling that meta's being a bit paranoided? Ah well. I guess I'll have to find an excuse for Sifa to look in her pack, since she hasn't yet.

Huh? You established several posts ago that all of our characters know which way east is:

Quote from: Paladin Sheppard on January 22, 2011, 03:20:52 AM
A bright wave of ghostly white energy, flooded out of the east. Those that could still see the bomber saw it stagger in mid flight, its control surfaces lock in place, and the noise of its engines died.

In any event, I don't actually care which way the true north or east or whatever is on this planet. :animesweat They merely provide a useful frame of reference which I'd assumed had been established. What is important are the relative directions, as whether the party is heading towards or away from established sources of potential danger will likely determine how Bolt will act in my next IC post...

I would like to apologize if I seem to be a bit vague and less than informative, what I AM trying to do is simulate the lack of knowledge someone would have if they were removed from the world they knew and placed on another with no warning or prior information.

As I will be posing in a hour or less of Salem's observations from the top of the tree it may help with some of the confusion.

Again I apologize for any aggravation.

Thanks. I do understand and appreciate what you're trying to do. I just find it a little awkwards sometimes to have a PC "search" for information IC when it's obviously right in front of him, as that requires breaking character (or at least POV, which I try to keep very tight in RPs). Hence why I asked here first...

By the way, did Bolt find anything mappish when he checked his pack?

Title: Re: Dreams of the Past (OOC. Mature Themes)
Post by: AmberCross on February 08, 2011, 03:05:29 PM
I would like to point out that there are two kinds of east. There is magnetic east (based on the polar direction of the planet if it has any) and the planer east which is based off the axis of rotation. By definition of mechanics, if you set North to be the pole that when you look down on the planet spins clockwise, the sun will ALWAYS rise in the east. I mean this is assuming it is in fact the planet that goes around the sun (and not the other way around) and other such similar crazy things that could theoretically but likely aren't different, but i think most bases are covered.

The only case in which things would get funky are based on the tilt of the planet. Earth has a tilt of 23 degrees, which is barely anything and if you flipped it upside down, it would be the same way with the exception that we'd seem to be orbiting the sun in the other direction which I believe has been shown by merit of environmental data (aka looking at countless other examples in the universe) that this is rare anyway. The MOST funky it can therefore get is a 90 degree tilt in which case the sun's movement would depend where they are. The two poles would get 2 days a year and thus end up with crazy environments and few trees, so we already know this is not our case. Aside from that depending on location the sun could still be offset to north or south, but we'd be able to figure out planer east anyway based off the direction it goes accross the sky compared to directly overhead.

Since east is an arbitrarily defined thing, and everyone nearby got some sort of info-dump for language, they'd all share the same definition of east and would therefore be able to figure it out pretty easily from where the sun rose since they woke up in the morning. Magnetic east would be a different case, but in MY character's case at least, it can be assumed that if he noticed a compass he would briefly check it to see if it alligns with planer directions. He did specialize in this sort of thing back in his own world after all.

Brought to you by your resident astrophysics/meteorology major.

New IC is up.

Just so I don't have to ret-con posts and cause confusion here are the map details for Chris and Greg:

Chris's is a topographical map of central Europe.

Greg's political map has 4 factions.   English Empire, containing the UK and most of Northern France and Denmark and the Nordic country's of Sweden and Norway
United German Tribes Looked much like the old West Germany, but broken up into smaller factions.
French Commonwealth Contained the rest of France and Spain.
New Austrian Federation, which had Austria, Switzerland, eastern Germany Poland, the Czech Republic, Italy, and the Baltic States.

You could always invent something fancy for him!  I toyed with how much memory to give my character, but I think that mine wouldn't work at all if he didn't remember most of what he was.

Don't give up yet!  Your guy could just have more complete amnesia.  Or, like a Mortal in a White Wolf's Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, Changeling, Gheist, or Promethian game, you could take all those extra "points" that would otherwise go in to magical abilities and buy up skills with them.  Be a veritable MacGuyver.

You know what I hate? The Google map I was basing the area off was taken like 5 years ago...and they just updated it... I almost didn't find the spot the group is in...

But moving on...The edge of the town is only one klick off Tez the Inn/Tavern/Bar is about 2km off on the far side of town. (Well it was when I had the OLD map :< )

Well I say humanoid cause there could have been an animal of some sort :B

Title: Re: Dreams of the Past (OOC. Mature Themes)

Hmmmm.  25x zoom from a kilometer away should have him seeing those people as though they were 130-ish feet away.  I'd say that he could get a pretty good idea whether they were human, anthro, or something else altogether, even if he couldn't make out specific details about fur/skin, face, what's on their shirts, etc.

Title: Re: Dreams of the Past (OOC. Mature Themes)
Post by: AmberCross on April 20, 2011, 07:18:04 PM
*sigh* I hate doing this in RPs that I've joined, but I am in significant danger of losing interest in this. It's partly because things are moving slowly, partly because I still have NO idea what's going on, partly because I don't know what to do with my character, etc. I kind of joined in the first place because I had the impression there'd be more supernatural elements (probably the title) which intrigued me, but as is it seems to mostly be some sort of post-apocolyptic warfare thing, pink brains aside, I'm kind of finding myself drifting away from this attention-wise. I can hold on enough to put my character in a position where it'd be logical for him to either die or just stay behind somewhere because he's 'too old for this' or something as opposed to just disappearing randomly or being smited in illogical GM fashion. Let me know what you think is best or if there's a particular reason I shouldn't give up on this just yet?

Inumo, just a nitpick really, but when I looked at your character you say Sifa is 5'6," 180 (lbs?), and has a slim/average build.  That seems more on the heavyset side for a woman of that height.

I'd post myself, but having collected his prize... Chris is really just following everyone else now. I have an idea though... the brain in Sifa's hands... does it look exactly like how it started? Or did it change visably when Cinna first touched it? Cause right now we have three brains: one clear, one touched but not clear, and one untouched. It might be interesting to compare how touched vs. untouched look.
Title: Re: Dreams of the Past (OOC. Mature Themes)

Apart from their colour all of the brains look identical.

Title: Re: Dreams of the Past (OOC. Mature Themes)
Post by: AmberCross on June 25, 2011, 06:05:12 PM
Yes... it was mostly the color/opacity I cared about... >.>

It's curious nothing has happened to Sifa. I wonder if this is because she has no magic or if it's because Cinna already touched that brain and keyed it to herself somehow. Which further makes me wonder if the brains start out keyed somehow or key on proximity... Obviously you can't really answer too much but you mentioned the brain Chris picked up feels like 'his' magic so I'm wondering if it's already keyed to him or if it would feel like someone else's magic to other people.
Title: Re: Dreams of the Past (OOC. Mature Themes)

A 'touched brain' like the one that Kandela interacted with is completely clear, while a 'untouched brain' is that vibrant glowy pink. the One that Cinna brushed wasn't in contact with her for long enough for it to 'interact'.

Though I'm not sure I want to be Tommy boy when he does.. >:3 Though he still should   :mwaha

At the moment I'm trying to figure out how to respond as a supposedly very sociable character... Kinda tricky when everyone else is paranoid. *looks at Salem*

Edit: Oh fu-- Sorry, Shachza! I missed the question. Yet another thing to try and figure out.

Well my character is an old man, and while not exactly sociable... is somewhat resigned to things happening. He's pretty much going with the flow and if things turn out well, great! But if things turn out bad, well he lived a long life so he's not too put out. Net effect of this is he's not nearly as paranoid as some others and also kind of less cautious to boot. Good for character interaction among strangers and making stuff happen. Possibly less good for survival. This will of course likely drive Wraith to bonkers.

Edit: Woah, hey. And stuff just happened! Important stuff even! Okay, details... these soldiers (I am assuming from their conduct) seem to be regular humans on regular horses. Are they wearing helmets? If not, do they look aryan? I think I had my character come from a germany-equivalent in his own world, but I can't recall for sure anymore. Anyway, you said there's fifty of them, did they ride in from behind us or in front? If my character was lagging behind a bit, could he conceivably duck behind some building and sneak around behind them? Lastly (I think) is there anything around that would even the odds such as conveniently placed load of hanging bricks? Oh, and are the horses armored? I'd hate to shoot the horses, but it might prove more effective than trying to shoot the people.

a) Soldiers are fully armored with helmets, and appear to be humans.
b) All rode in from the east and entered the other side of the car park from the group.
c) Yes they have seen the group so no sneaking off.
d) No
e) Yes but I doubt it would stop bullets...

Do you wish to know more?  :)

Yes, why DON'T apple jacks taste like apples? How many licks DOES it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop? Do YOU know why kids love cinnamon toast crunch? Other than that (and perhaps a few other similar questions) I think I'm good...

Edit: Oh shoot! Just thought of this... I was sort of assuming medieval style armor for some reason, but it occurs to me that if everyone has guns they might well have a different kind of armor. What kind of armor do they have and how effective is it against bullets? I'll probably get this answer IC soon enough, but I would like to get it clear in my head if they're wearing iron or kevlar. I get the impression that they don't actually have guns, but my logic circuits are screaming against that since they apparently have EMP level technology.

Is Kandela Holy, Ret, or Prot?  If she's Prot then I vote we just toss her in and let the riders clobber themselves into submission.  I'm specced for Improved Bandages btw!  :P

BTW, my plan is to nab enough horses for all of us, have Kandela activate Crusader and pop Aura Mastery, and then we just leave.  Who's with me?

AmberCross:

I'm sorry to say your first set of questions are classified....

As to the second, it is indeed full plate armor, and as to its effectiveness against bullets, well well have to wait and see wont we :P And no they don't have firearms but some do have crossbows (modern steel and plastic types) And who said anyone had EMP tech? >:3

Shachza:

Back in Azeroth Kandela is a dual spec Prot/Ret Paladin....And how do you intend for her to act as a tank with no shield? :P And as for leaving where are you going to go?

Rats, the answer is always classified! Most of what you said is about what I expected... but interesting to know these people are wearing metal armor. Quite... useful. :3

Paladin, is the only extra ammo we have in our packs the stuff for our pistols?  I'm not sure whether I can have my character find more, or whether he'll be stuck with his pistol for quite some time.

Also, can you expand on what happened with Chris (IC-ly if pertinent)?  I was expecting a large explosion and Chris to go flying like Kandela, but if all there is is a light show then I want to make sure so I can react accordingly.
Title: Re: Dreams of the Past (OOC. Mature Themes)

Until you find a supply of ammo that you aren't carrying its a moot point :B But yes at the moment the only ammunition for the groups guns is what they are carrying.

As for the diverging effects between Kandela and Chris - Kandela only managed to touch the brain for a moment and most of the energy was released as she lost contact, where as Chris had both hands on the crystal and it never lost contact till it was drained.

I just want to point out that I was also trying to interact with the riders that were over by Cinna/Sifa.  I understand that whether I'm successful is up to Paladin, but nobody seems to have noticed my attempt.

So... after my spells and Kandela's everything... how many enemies are actually left? Chris wants to test something, but can't really unless everyone nearby is dealt with, cause I don't think he knows where the last few are or he assumes Wraith took care of them. Basically, is there any indication to Chris that the fight isn't over yet?

... Which is? Last I saw Cinna was just aiming in their general direction, and I'm covering two; one via pin, and one with my gun.

Gah need to be more clearer...The one Sifa is pointing her gun at.
Title: Re: Dreams of the Past (OOC. Mature Themes)
Post by: Inumo on September 20, 2011, 03:00:59 PM
Okay, I'm a bit confused as to what just happened. Firstly, what safety got turned off? Unless, of course, the pin is the safety, in which case wouldn't it still need to be "fired," in a sense? Just basing that off of terminology, not so much how a grenade works. Secondly, I was under the impression that I was merely kneeling on the guy's head, not pinning him. Does that make a difference at all? Thirdly, I'm guessing this happens as I take the shot, not after my post is complete? Does this mean that we're also allowed to take interruptive actions? Fourthly, these guys are in full suits of armor, right? Wouldn't that mean there'd be a good second or two during which these actions would be performed? I think that's all for now.
Title: Re: Dreams of the Past (OOC. Mature Themes)
Post by: Paladin Sheppard on September 20, 2011, 09:19:59 PM
1) Sorry that should have been arming leaver. On a grenade there are two safety features, one is the pin, the other is the leaver or 'spoon'. When the leaver is removed it ignites the fuse.

2) This has occurred immediately after Sifa's pistol was fired, and is a non-interuptable GM action.

3)  Live grenade at your feet >:3
Title: Re: Dreams of the Past (OOC. Mature Themes)
Post by: Inumo on September 23, 2011, 02:45:30 PM
Geez, just how lucky was this guy? I mean, blindly pulling both the pin and spoon off of a relatively tiny grenade in full plate over his head in less than a second. Holy crap! Anyways, I'll start formulating a post as soon as I can. We'll see how this goes.
Title: Re: Dreams of the Past (OOC. Mature Themes)
Post by: Shachza on September 23, 2011, 09:44:18 PM
I don't know if I can even do as much as I'm trying in this one post, but it's the first thing that came to mind.  Grabbing the grenade sounds like a VERY bad idea to me.

Also, I don't actually know that the grenade has a 5 second fuse...  That's just what I (and Tommaso) remember from movies.

Title: Re: Dreams of the Past (OOC. Mature Themes)
Post by: Inumo on September 23, 2011, 11:53:18 PM
Pal, I'm fine with it, honestly. Realistically, there are some things you cannot get a choice over, and being surprise-tackled from the side by a soldier is one of them. All thoughts considered, it's probably much safer than my plan (grab 'nade, throw "away").
Title: Re: Dreams of the Past (OOC. Mature Themes)
Post by: Shachza on September 24, 2011, 02:45:45 AM
Bleh.  Reworded to be a bit more clear that Tommaso isn't god-mode-ing character interactions.  I wasn't trying to lock Sifa and Cinna into being pushed inside.

Title: Re: Dreams of the Past (OOC. Mature Themes)
Post by: AmberCross on September 27, 2011, 01:16:52 PM
Dang it Pal! I asked if the girls and their problem were within sight or immediate vicinity cause if Chris had noticed they were still having trouble he'd have tried to help instead of just landing and starting a science experiment willy nilly. I thought they were around a corner, out of sight, inside, etc so that Chris wouldn't even have an inkling they hadn't escaped the fight (he didn't notice the three riders splitting off to chase them) and also coincidentally out of range of the grenade :/
Not that he'd know what a grenade was come to think.... pretty sure his world didn't have any.

Ah well, Chris will have to resume his science experiment later. Right now he might be a bit shaken up.

Well nevermind. Chris is an old man, easily prone to distraction. It's not... too out of character that he forgot about them and didn't notice them down the street. Especially when posed with a mystery to solve. After all, I was going to have him forget about them (or not notice in the first place) anyway so it's not too bad. It's just one of those moments is all :/

Title: Re: Dreams of the Past (OOC. Mature Themes)
Post by: AmberCross on October 24, 2011, 09:32:22 PM
He went back a ways to grab one. Those things were EVERYwhere earlier. I somehow doubt it would be that hard to find another. By all means I can debrain the post and just have him try to heal Wraith purely with his own magic. Basic theory is he runs energy through the body which processes it into somewhat rapid healing. Too much will overload it and be damaging, but mild amounts are like an adrenaline rush with advanced healing.

Finding the brain is fine its just where he went to find one...There are none in the carpark, and the closest house is 50m away.

yeah sorry, I tried nanowrimo this year and that ate up what little time i had between the rampant test bonanza that my classes turned into.

the November > December transition is always bad as well. With finals. On top of that Skyrim came out and I've been enamored with punching dragons to death.

as for the most recent activity, I didn't know what Cinna's "healing" spell did. So, she couldn't really reply to Kandela. At the time I was swamped, so I was looking at letting it slide and just have her start up again after we moved along some more.
