I somehow doubt it would really help, since we know there are at least a few clans out there sans clan leader, and thus not counted in this update.

Seriously, though. This does explain how Aary and others at the school can be jealous and mean to Abel just based on appearances.  Who wouldn't hate "the ideal cubi?"

Makes me wonder if Aniz picked out Abel's mom because of her ancestry, visible traits or what.  Did Aniz think Abel woudl be an inside track to Quoar and his power?  Kind of unlikely since there's no mention of Quoar adopting or associating with other cubi with similar physical traits.  Maybe Abel's appearance is just "a cool thing" and does not tie in directly with Aniz's plans.  Time will tell.

Here are some other possibilities.
- He's very old-fashioned and doesn't really want to associate his kin at this "new fangled" school run by that "young kid" Fa'Lina.

Huh. I honestly expected the entire line-up to be female, especially given the going streak. But it looks like there is no such restriction and males can ascend and become clan leaders. (Although one could hardly be criticized too much for saying that there appears to be a tendency for clan leaders to be female.)

Also, Quoar looks like a steam-punk pimp. Which is awesome.

Which makes it more awesome. He's a rare male leader. You gotta know what you're doing to be a leader, and doubly so if you're a dude. Though why he's isolated? Probably too much love in his diet.

This clan is very interesting. I also like how the clan of love is reclusive. I also love his hat.

I don't know what it is about him, but he's absolutely cool, that is all I can say.

Jeez, three-fourths of the way to one hundred thousand years old. Granted, there's probably Fae who live for trillions of years...

I wonder why it's fortunate to look like this clan?  I mean, yeah, they're old and presumably very powerful, but it's not like anyone knows anything about them.  The only regular contact is every thousand years.  Unless 'Cubi are prone to magical thinking as much as humanity is, this doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. 

Also, his tail reminds me of a paintbrush.  I wonder if it's Quoar who's messing with Abel's dreams?  ... probably not.  But Aniz was absolutely right: Abel does look just like Quoar, sans a few color differences. 

I think their might be a whole city filled with his clan. Maybe they live like the Fraggles.

I got to wonder if this is why Aaya was talking about so many are or were willing to help him. In a way I can't help but feel that if that's the case it seems rather shallow of the people that feel that way. Maybe Abel sees them all as screaming groupers.

I wonder how many dates Abel has been offered because of his looks?

I always assumed that `Cubi clan-marks were some kind of color not found in nature, like, florescent or neon in nature.. and that this just doesn't show-up in the comic simply due to a matter of the art-style.

And that's what I meant.  "Even if the primary motivation isn't lust, just because of their affinity I don't believe for a second that clan Quoar isn't very prolific."  The oldest and most active members could have had as many as 8000 kids or more, even allowing for ridiculously long-lived beings, much less grandkids, great grandkids, etc etc.  Why his traits are seen as good luck is beyond me, we haven't had that explained yet, but his physical traits popping up in random people shouldn't be unexpected.

Anyway, the first thing I thought of when I read about the dual-colored clan marking rareness was "Wait, 'possible'?  What makes it possible?"  If if there's some 'qualifications,' do they have to be met before or after the clan is founded?  If after, does the clan mark change at some point?  How stable or morphable are clan markings?  (I'm guessing they're, at the very least, mostly constant.  Otherwise, it would get more confusing than they already are after awhile.)

And there's also another question that I've been meaning to ask for awhile: Do clans/clan leaders actually choose their can mark at some point, or does it somehow 'choose' itself?  I mean, is there some reason why Siar's clan mark looks like a fire while Fa'Lina's is more like a claw?  Did Taun pick two HOT PINK sickle-like things on purpose?  Is it utter, pure chance that Cyra's symbol looks a bit like the symbol for 'female'?

My theory was actually that Aniz somehow made use of shapeshifting so that certain traits would be more likely to be passed down.  I mean, Aniz did call Abel 'a work of art,' which, to me, suggested that he 'crafted' Abel's appearance.  Such shifted genetics may also explain why the ends of Abel's hair turns brown when it's cut, too.

Then again, I don't know if that's canonly possible.  But unless I get proof otherwise, I'm still going to hold onto it as a vague possibility.

Same here.  I know that a lot of other languages have different words for 'love' depending on the type (e.g. familial, friendship, etc.).  I have to wonder what word would be used if this were translated into, say, Spanish.

I agree with the consensus that Abel is related to this clan in some way, although technically speaking all races  had to have originated or have had a common ancestor or creator.

As far as specificity goes, I would like to believe that Quoar is about love in all its forms. Friendship, romantic, familial, and whatever other less conventional things you can think up.

There seems to be a lot of talk about the lust vs. love thing, but in my opinion, love can certainly be expressed via the most private, personal kinds of physical intimacy, so I would say there's sort of a crossover there of emotions - certainly both occurring at the same time, making those moments fair food for both clans!

I fondly hope Quoar is a massive clan in its own pocket dimension.  And perhaps they've been planning something huge and are just about to spring it.  Because quite frankly, the world needs more love. 

Has anybody considered the possibility of the Quoar clan masquerading as angels, demons, or mythos?  Imagine his clan spending the last few dozen millennia practicing using their power for good.  The yin/yang symbol is often used with the martial arts.  Picture a cubi version of the Shao-Lin temple monks honing their skills for thousands of years.

Why would they need to masquerade as angels, demons, or mythos, when they can be all that and 'Cubi? :P But I think you might mean without showing off those nifty head wings and keeping the clan symbol covered in order to hide their "true" identities so they can go out and do good, and don't end up like poor Mink's mum. :(

Either way... Love, I would say, is neither inherently good, nor evil, and it can most certainly get you into a lot of trouble depending on who you love and how you love them, so I do not share this image of Quoar, though it is a nice one. :)

I would like to imagine Quoar as more like Piflak in the respect that they're allowed to create, consume, and spread love freely, however they want, wherever and whenever they want. This is what their clan motto makes me think of: Life is an adventure!

And that's what I meant.  "Even if the primary motivation isn't lust, just because of their affinity I don't believe for a second that clan Quoar isn't very prolific."  The oldest and most active members could have had as many as 8000 kids or more, even allowing for ridiculously long-lived beings, much less grandkids, great grandkids, etc etc.  Why his traits are seen as good luck is beyond me, we haven't had that explained yet, but his physical traits popping up in random people shouldn't be unexpected.

If they can feed of the love a parent might have for their child, they might go for making children, tho according to hybrid genetics those would all be cubi. Course he might have left some kids around before being adopted as a cubi but that's more then a couple generations ago.

For some reason, I picture him welcoming us aboard a train bound for a city full of wonders...and trouble. Wondrous trouble, to be sure. He has that mix of charm and mischief about him.

75,000 years is a long time. That's actually something that's been kind of bugging me: beings have been around for a while, so why are they only now getting to the point of magic-free toasters and gryphon mechs? Heck, 7,000 or so years ago, there was a war that almost wiped out the Cubi: that can't have had no effect whatsoever on the beings. Though I suspect there's a very good answer: Furrae has been suffering from an EXTREMELY prolonged medieval stasis, from a combination of the ease of using magic and the incredible dangers of various monsters and creatures. Those two working together would probably severely retard the development of both civilization and technology. When a demon has the strength to wipe out a town on their own, technological advancement could be easily lost before it could be spread around and do some good. It's only relatively recently that things have stabilized. Heck, we could even go to the next level: civilization could keep rising up, and then getting smacked down again by some factor, so things might not be "stable" so much as we're on the rise to another crisis. Mab's plan, therefore, might be to change this continual cycle of destruction and reconstruction. Unless I'm crazy or this has all been voiced long ago. Either are likely.

Then again, I don't know if that's canonly possible.  But unless I get proof otherwise, I'm still going to hold onto it as a vague possibility.

Shapeshifting wouldn't do it, but perhaps Aniz somehow came across some genetics-manipulating magic.

There were more featherwings than batwings.  I don't see any drop-dead obvious correlations between featherwings = positive emotions and batwings = negative emotions.

BTW - I'm using the "King, Queen, Prince, Princess" form of the court cards.  It's not as common as the "King, Queen, Knight, Page" form, I know.  Heck, it's kinda rare; you usually find the latter.  But there's also another form, created by That Nutjob, Alistair Crowley, which has, "Knight," in the "King"-position.

The Prince of Cups is the masculine-aspect of emotion, often love and romance.  One of my decks has the Prince of Cups, naked, riding a dolphin.  The card is PG, since the dolphin is strategically-placed.  The whole card tends to skew readings towards the ... sensual.

It *is* a good question.
We don't know what the rules for switching to a different clan is, so it's hard to hypothize on.
But so far, he hasn't really had a reason to do anything, so that's exactly what he's been doing.

Ofcourse, imagine Aniz's anger if that happened ?
One might call it the perfect revenge.

Maybe this is why Abel hasn't confronted him yet ?

Well, Quoar's entry does say he's reclusive and makes no use of the Academy, merely sending an envoy once a millennium. The status of he and his clan are listed as "unknown," beyond their continued existence.

Perhaps Abel has simply never had an opportunity to switch to that clan.

He would still have had the opportunity to join another clan, Quoar isn't the only one around, after all.
No, I think Abel has decided to stay Siar-clan.

Or maybe he's waiting until Aniz is around, so he can really rub his face in it.

I see your point. I was just thinking that given Abel's physical quirks (http://www.missmab.com/Demo/Leader14.php) (the hetero- nature of his eye colors and wing composition), Quoar would be the most natural clan for him to join.

Though given his actual emotional proclivities (at least for most of his life), Seme (http://www.missmab.com/Demo/Leader04.php) does seem more fitting.
