Title: So, you're sick - What to do ?
Post by: Anker Steadfast on March 01, 2010, 12:49:14 AM
Well, let's imagine you have gotten sick and have confined yourself to bed - What would you be able to do then ?

Well, if you have a laptop, you could take it to bed and watch youtube video's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qit3ALTelOo) and surf the web for strange pictures from abroad (http://englishrussia.com/?p=11026).
But really, if you are anything like me, you are likely reading webcomics!

So, lets share which ones out there are the GOOD ones ... apart from DMFA offcourse. :D

Lets start off with 3 comics each, Name with link to homepage, and a short description with appropriate warnings if it's very gory or has rampant sex in it.

Astray 3 (http://www.astray3.com)
An epic journey that takes our heroine into another universe full of monsters furries and even an Oven Monster!
The art is sublime (godly backgrounds), the universe wonderfully different and the story beggars the mind.
No nudity, but a good deal of fighting makes it fair game for teens and up.

Girl Genius (http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php)
The story of how a young woman end up entangled in a story and a plot that runs so deep, that she will probably have to save the world TWICE before she can make heads or tails of it. Not only does she have an arch-nemesis, she has several of them. Well, maybe one of them is actually her future father in law, who is currently the Leader of Europe, a mad scientist and also a man who builds castles in the sky ... literally!
The art has changed much over the time, but by now it is really good, and the storytelling is both intricate and epic in scale.
No nudity or sex, though there's a bit of innuendo and and good deal of fighting. Teens and up seems safe.

Tales of the Traveling Gnome (http://ttg.spiderforest.com)
So far it seems to be a fairly straight forward fantasy adventuring .. uhm .. adventure story.
It has gnomes, barbarians, healing priests and so on, looking rather D&D inspired.
And for some reason, I'm absolutely sold on it - Not exactly sure why, but it has the cutest little imp familiar and some good art.
As mentioned, art is good, story seems somewhat generic but solid.
Lots of fighting and many very serious faces makes it a teen and up comic as well.

Allright, those were my 3, now lets hear it from the rest of you guys. :)

TwoKinds (http://2kinds.com)
TwoKinds - A Furry webcomic/web-graphic-novel, the main plot centers on a human named Trace and a Keidran(Furry race) named Flora, in a romantic-comedy-adventure type setting.
Updates once a week currently, and has been around since 2003. PG13, pushing M

Namir Deiter (http://www.namirdeiter.com/) & You Say It First (http://www.soapylemon.com/).
Both comics are by Isabel Marks, who colors Kevin and Kell.
These comics are sort of slice-of-life comics; some romance in them - overall, a light read, and pretty. PG
The archives are -enormous-!

Sequential Art (http://www.collectedcurios.com/sequentialart.php)
Sequential Art - What can I say? Simple, black & white. Several main story arcs, interspersed with one-off comics; overall a good read. PG-PG13.

HOLY CRAP! IT'S THE THRADDASH!
So, they still on Culture 13 or are they extinct? (Don't tell me, I already know...  :mwaha)

Anyway, back on topic...

http://laslindas.katbox.net/ (http://laslindas.katbox.net/)
Nobody's mentioned Las Lindas, made by the ever-talented Chalo-san? Well, few people have posted so far... His Breasts are Best mini-series is the only one that features nudity.

http://goblins.keenspot.com/ (http://goblins.keenspot.com/)
This one is about goblins and a D&D campaign from their point of view. Lots of violence, though.

http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots.html (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots.html)
Another D&D comic, but the author makes me feel better about my own, virtually non-existent artistic abilities. Some violence, but they're rather detailed stick figures.

and don't forget the rest of the Katbox (http://www.katbox.net/) webcomics, their all worth a shot  :>
And I'm also proud to say that I'm the one who drew the favicons for LasLindas, CaribbeanBlue and the main site/forums  >:]

I'll count that as one comic, and introduce two more  :3

Bug (http://www.bugcomic.com/)
A five-times-a-week-updating webcomic about the randomness that exists. You're almost guarantied to get a good laugh of at least three quarters of the strips

Furry Experience (http://furryexperience.smackjeeves.com/)
A fairly new comic about the wacky campus-life of some roommates, with really creative humor.
(somewhat adult-themed at times, though nothing NSFW)

http://www.peteristhewolf.com Peter is The Wolf (http://www.peteristhewolf.com) --  Peter is a werewolf, who together with other werewolves, have adventures with werewolf hunters, internal rivalries, and getting through college.  There is a PG-13 version and a very definitely NSFW (Not safe for work) version on the site.  I stick to the tamer version.

http://freefall.purrsia.com Freefall (http://freefall.purrsia.com) - Florence Ambrose is a genetically modified wolf who is highly ethical and competent.  She is the engineer on  the Savage Chicken.  Sam Starfall is the captain of the ship, who is highly incompetent and whose ethics make Ferengi and sharks look like saints. Look here for more biographical information as the characters also appear in the Cross Time Cafe. (http://www.whiteponyproductions.com/comicstrips/ctc/characters.htm)  Nothing objectionable.  Florence has an engineer's sense of humor.

http://kevinandkell.com  Kevin and Kell  (http://kevinandkell.com) - I believe that I saw Isabel Marks listed as the colorist, but I didn't see a reference to this strip.  Kevin is a rabbit who is married to a wolf named Kell.  Kell recently broke her tibia, a condition that she shares with me.  (I actually broke both the tibia and fibia.)  There is an annual dinner at Anthrcon for his supporters.  Definitely a must read, and is definitely G.

Keychain of Creation (http://keychain.patternspider.net/): Another stick figure/RPG comic similar to Order of the Stick (though the art evolves over time), this one is set in the world of the Exalted role-playing game. A Solar who can't remember his mortal life before his Exaltation, a Lunar who gives new meaning to the term 'foxy lady', an old elemental-style martial artist a bit too fond of his drink, and possibly the cutest Abyssal Exalted in all of Creation team up to find the Keys of Creation before they can fall into the hands of their enemies. Starts out funny, but the RPG jokes make room for an actual plot fairly quickly, though plenty of humorous moments still crop up. Generally quite safe, though the end of the first plot arc may feature something of a tear jerker if you're inclined that way.

Broken Plot Device (http://www.brokenplotdevice.com/): Humorous slice-of-life comic (at least I think that's the term) about the misadventures of a bunch of furry characters living together in the same building. There's no one clear viewpoint character (not even the author avatar, an occasionally naive but endearing lizard girl), but they're all rather engaging -- even the jerk of the group may yet be redeemable -- and I think the comic is better than I can do justice in this description right now. I wouldn't make sure to catch each new strip as it comes out otherwise. ;) (It, KoC above, and DMFA are about the only three I can say that about; I like other titles as well, but it's more on an occasional "let's see what's happened in the last few weeks" basis.)

Well, I was going to list FreeFall as my third as well, but since that's been already covered, let me pick something else at semi-random...

Dungeons & Denizens (http://www.dungeond.com/): A young minotaur applies for a dungeon tech support job and meets the other denizens. Hilarity ensues on a fairly regular basis. ;)

Edit: Also, for an index site with links to more web comics than you can shake a stick at (though you'll be somewhat on your own with regard to quality when you decide to follow those), there's the New Belfry Web Comics Index (http://belfrycomics.net/). Don't let the relatively short list of names that you'll probably see on your first visit fool you; those are just the most recent additions...

Heres a couple other good ones:
http://www.dominic-deegan.com/ (http://www.dominic-deegan.com/) "Dominic Deegan: Oracle for High" -- A tale of Dominic, a mage of the "future/second sight" skill and the journeys he and his friends go through in life and keeping the world safe.

The OOTS readers probably have seen the first book of this, so I figured Id mention www.erfworld.com (http://www.erfworld.com) -- the story of a world that seems to be based on an RTS game, and Parson, who is from the real one.

Also I would advise fans of freefall to check out White Pony's "Cross Time Cafe" http://www.whiteponyproductions.com/comicstrips/ctc/present.htm the crossover comic has some excellent laughs, plus links to a nice set of comics the series takes characters from (included in that is "21st Century Fox" which I will say is probably one of the most realistic feeling furry comics I have ran into)

El Goonish Shive (http://egscomics.com). A sweet, often pervy, sometimes dramatic and always well-drawn comic about alien hybrids, anime-style martial arts, and a group of quirky friends.

And Shine Heaven Now (http://hellsing.comicgenesis.com). A Hellsing doujinshi by the talented Erin Ptah, a loyal Sir Integra fangirl. If you like the anime, comedy, drama and all, give this a shot. And check out the Fangirl Attacks!

Heh, if I could answer this question?  :)  *waves at Turnsky*  Tales of Pylea and Crux both are *NOT* dead.  If you check out TTG's main page, read down the news section.  There's a link there where Michelle colored Pylea's upcoming restart page.

Humbug, Pylea's artist, needed some time off to finish a work project, and we both felt that Pylea really needed a revamping.  So in a week or three, Pylea will be resuming.

And thank you for the kind words, I always enjoy seeing people that read/enjoy TTG across the web. :)

And no, I don't just stalk random forums, looking for people that mention us... we've gotten about two dozen hits from this thread just today, and it piqued my interest. :)

EmergencyExit (http://www.eecomics.net/): A comic about a group of kids that live in an apartment complex...................which apparently is more than it seems, has access to different worlds via portals, there's a witch, a robot couch and oh, did I mention there's a cat girl, too!  :3

Sorcery101 (http://www.sorcery101.net/): A M/W/F comic about Danny, a perverted 30 something year old man,  that teaches by day and learns sorcery in his free time; who's friends with a werewolf and has (a hot! >:3) vampire who's blood bonded to him.

www.questionablecontent.net - a comic about Marten Reed and his friends. They're a group of indie music lovers with various problems. comedy relationship comic.

www.leasticoulddo.com - a comic about a slightly narcissistic guy who spends his days being a vice-president of a software company, coming up with crazy schemes and looking for hookups (quite succesfully, but nothing graphic)

www.schlockmercenary.com - a family friendly comedy comic about a band of mercenaries in the third millenium.

You lot have done the usual suspects already. But wait, there's more!

Code Name: Hunter (http://www.rcsitravel.net/archive/2005/06/20) What would happen if one day all the myths and stories returned? That was London sixty years ago when, during one of the darkest nights of World War II, a certain stained glass seal broke and the old magic, locked away since the Norman invasion, returned.

Generation 17 (http://generation17.smackjeeves.com/comics/672080/chapter-1-cover/) Adult language, blood and (quite tasteful) nudity.

Gunnerkrigg Court (http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=1) A must-read.

Sabrina Online (http://www.sabrina-online.com/index.html) "Sabrina Online" is a comic strip created, written, and drawn by Eric W. Schwartz. New strips will appear at the rate of between two and five every month.

Skin Horse (http://www.webcomicsnation.com/shaenongarrity/skinhorse/series.php?view=archive&chapter=25034) This one is hard to describe. Mad science, crossdressing, a friendly zombie and general insanity.

Tales of the Questor (http://www.rhjunior.com/totq/00001.html) A raccoonan anti-hero. Well drawn, and awesome humour. One of my favourites.

Weregeek (http://www.weregeek.com/2006/11/27/) Every full moon, (closeted) geeks become ... were-geeks.

Edit:
Inverloch (http://inverloch.seraph-inn.com/viewcomic.php) The story of Inverloch centers around a young man named Acheron, from a horned wolf-like race called the da'kor. After a chance encounter with an elf, he finds himself setting out on a seemingly innocent mission - that of trying to locate Kayn'dar, another elf who has been missing for the past twelve years.
Meeting up with new friends and companions along the way, he quickly begins to learn that the world is not quite the peaceful place he believed it to be - embroiled with prejudice, racial segregation, and hidden danger. And the truth behind Kayn'dar's disappearance is something none of the party would ever expect...

The Phoenix Requiem (http://requiem.seraph-inn.com/viewcomic.php?page=1) The Phoenix Requiem is a Victorian-inspired supernatural fantasy story about faith, love, death, and the things we believe in.
On a cold December night, a gentleman stumbles into the town of Esk, gunshot wounds leaving a trail of blood in the snow behind him. Despite making a full recovery at the hands of an inexperienced nurse - and deciding to make a new life for himself in the town - he is unable to escape the supernatural beings, both good and bad, that seem to follow him like shadows.

Both comics drawn by the very talented Sarah Ellerton.

You are bound to end up regularly checking in on at least 3 of the comics  :)

I also suggest checking out Petite Symphony (http://petitesymphony.com/), a nice compilation of several comics written and drawn by various artists. :>

3 comics each? Whoops, I missed that. Sorry.   :blush

But seriously folks, how could I select only 3 comics? A quick count gives 35+ comics that I read regularly, most of these updates every week. Gaah! I forgot Google Reader! Yeah, there's another 10 or so ...   :U

And then there are the finished ones, like Better Days, A Doemain of our Own, A Miracle of Science, ...  :mowdizzy

Schlock Mercenary  (http://www.schlockmercenary.com) this will not only last you through your illness, but through the week after the illness as well. Its a space opera involving the (mis)adventures of a mercenary company known as Tagonns Toughs.

Also, I'd suggest trying out dwarf fortress, it takes a bit to learn the game (but hey, you are bed ridden what else are you going to do.) but after learning the controls, you can learn to make intricate traps/doomsday devices with alot of "fun". That and about every dwarf in your fortress will probably be as miserable as you are.

I'm disappointed in you, Bjalf. I read somewhere in the region of 300 or so. :-/ In fact, it's almost easier to list the ones from this page that I don't read.

I have to warn you, though. Do not play that game! It's evil! It sucks you in and devours all your free time, and then some.

One of my favorite feel-good comics is Unshelved (http://www.unshelved.com/), a newspaper-style comic drawn by librarians, for anyone who likes a good book. It follows the staff of the Mallville Public Library as they work with unusual patrons, try to get kids interested in reading, and deal with some of the downright wacky things that happen in Mallville. You will never look at your local library the same way again!

They also do an "Unshelved Book Club" strip every Friday, where they present great books that you may or may not have heard of before. They're great if you're looking for something new to read, but have no idea where to start.

--

Another favorite of mine is The Meek (http://www.meekcomic.com/), a fantasy story that takes place in a very expansive world. The story begins with Angora, a young girl raised in a commune in a jungle, setting out on a journey after an attack on her "grandfather," Mocheril (who looks very much like a giant olm (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proteus_anguinus)). He departs with these words; "Find the center. I will meet you there. The lost one will know the way... The center... A woman who cries but sheds no tears. Beware my brother, and a man who hates in the name of love. You must be careful. They do not yet know of you. But if they find you, they will surely kill you. Remember what I taught you, Angora, and remember that I love you."

The story is currently in its second chapter, following the second of its three main characters, Emperor Luca deSadar. WARNING: There's a lot of (tasteful) nakedness in this comic! Angora spends most of the first chapter naked (only gaining pants and a scarf at the end), and the current page has naked woman butt and hairy old-man chest on it. Just so no one gets a shock when they click the link. :animesweat

Let's see, I need a third one... let me look through my webcomic folder on my bookmarks... It's a toss-up between Skin Deep (http://girlamatic.com/skindeep/) and Digger (http://www.diggercomic.com/). Skin Deep is a recent find of mine, dealing with mythical creatures living in human guise with the help of medallions, while Digger... well, Digger. The protagonist is a displaced wombat, who takes advice from a talking statue of Ganesh, and has traveled with a "shadowchild" born from a dead bird, hyena-people who believe that a person's essence lies in the liver, warrior shrews, prophet slugs, a slightly cracked priestess with a great destiny hanging over her head... all to kill a dead god in a cave. Just read it, I swear it will make sense.

Oh, heck with it. Have some more rapid-fire suggestions.

The Pig's Ear (http://www.pigsearonline.com/) (a fairly new fantasy comic surrounding the titular pub)
Panthera (http://www.pantheracomic.com/) (a team of shape-shifting teens who become elemental big cats take on the evils of the pharmaceutical company that created the drug that made them what they are)
Strays (http://www.straysonline.com/index.htm) (a VERY well-drawn comic following energetic orphan lupian Meela and mute lupian bounty hunter Feral in their journeys... well, Feral's wandering from job to job as he tries to shake Meela. xD )
Two Lumps (http://www.twolumps.net/) (two cats; Ebenezer, the smart cat, and Snooch, his pudgier counterpart with a love of "gooshyfood")
Catena (http://catenamanor.com/) (which just came off hiatus a few weeks ago! A whole bunch of anthropomorphic cats sharing a manor with occasional visits from local angels, Death, the dog next door, and a tarantula with dreams of world domination. Fun times.)
The Adventures of Dr. McNinja (http://drmcninja.com/) (... actually, you might not want to read this one while you're sick. It's so absurd in places that it might make you feel even loopier. Great art, though, and very funny.)

Seconded as reccomends. Been reading those two for years.
Darn it people, stop getting me hooked on more webcomics! I already read, like, fifteen, and they take up enough of my time!
I was about to recommend DMFA, but then I remembered that this WAS the DMFA forum. Oooooops...

Um........
Lets see...
Oh!

http://www.aiacrowd.com/index.html - Alone in a Crowd - still fairly new webcomic, I've followed it since it began. Average art, improved a lot since the very beginning regardless. Basically, it is about two ten year olds, Hope and Faith. Faith has cat ears as a birth defect, and lives with her older sister since her parents died. Hope is her first friend. Easily the cutest webcomic I've read. PG-13 at the max for rating.

If you don't mind the Archive Binge: Irregular Webcomic (http://"http://www.irregularwebcomic.net/1.html").... over a dozen webcomics for the price of one! Updates Daily.

Any LotR/D&D fans will like Shamus Young's now-concluded DM of the Rings (http://"http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=612"%5B/url)

For Star Wars Fans, from a team including the creator of Irregular Webcomic, and inspired by DM of the Rings: Darths And Droids (http://www.darthsanddroids.net/episodes/0001.html"), the Star Wars Prequel trilogy as told as a Tabletop RPG... Updates Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, currently almost done with Attack of the Clones. The one time you can say "Jar Jar, you're a Genius!" without a hint of sarcasm.

If you are into text stories, I suggest checking out G. Howell (http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~howellg/stories/stories.html)'s work. He has a fairly large amount of work in several novels; and he seems to update with a new chapter or two every 6 months.
Overall PG-PG13.

Seconded. This site ruined my life only about six months ago, and it is already the predominant site I go on internet-wise. I tend to trope-speak even in regular life by now.

If you need help getting addicted to TV Tropes, the best starter page, in my opinion, is the Tropes of Legend page. Link here: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TropesOfLegend

Then, if you're not already WikiWalking (Link: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WikiWalk) by the time you're through most of the Tropes of Legend, here's the DMFA page in TV Tropes: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DanAndMabsFurryAdventures?from=Main.DMFA

Enjoy the next four hours on TV Tropes! ^.^

Havent read too many webcomics regularly for a while, but some of the ones i do follow:
MSPaint Adventures (http://www.mspaintadventures.com/) - Comics actually done in photoshop (and recently flash) but that try to emulate the style of mspaint. Reading the Problem Sleuth series in its entirety could take a few days. Homestuck, the newest series, is beginning to annoy me a bit, but its still pretty good. Leans a bit towards NSFW for a lot of swearing and some cartoony gore in Problem Sleuth.

Pictures for Sad Children (http://www.picturesforsadchildren.com) - Starts off as a story about a ghost, drops that after a bit and mainly does single comics that are pretty strange.

Gunshow (http://gunshowcomic.com) -  Random joke comics, and a couple small stories mixed in. It gets kind of morbid at times and generally gets a bit gross here and there, just as a caution.

I read a ton of comics here, some have been already listed.  So these are what I read:
Already mentioned comics:
Peter is the Wolf (http://www.peteristhewolf.com/adult/home.html), I read the adult version though  Las Lindas (http://laslindas.katbox.net/), FreeFall (http://freefall.purrsia.com/), and Houspets (http://www.housepetscomic.com/)

Comics not mentioned by others (and are currently active)
Dan and Mab's Furry Adventures (http://www.missmab.com/)  We all know what this comic is about, heh.

WapsiSquare (http://wapsisquare.com/) A PG comic, the main character is a busty mexican girl who has her own Aztecan demons inside her.  A recent arc just ended dealing with the Aztec Calendar machine which ended with them destroying it.

The Magnificent Milkmaid (http://www.themagnificentmilkmaid.com/home.html) - Rating: R.  WLP Comic.  The main character fights evil villians by drinking milk and transforming into a very busty crime fighter and the "fights" involve mainly subduing the villians by sexual means
The Chocolate Milkmaid (http://www.wlpcomics.com/adult/cm/) - Rating: R.  WLP Comic.  Same as above, except the main here is black.
Misadventures of Chi-Chi Chan (http://www.wlpcomics.com/adult/chichi/) - Rating: R.  WLP Comic.  Main character is a short, chibi Japanese girl with really huge characters.  Name of comic is basically all that needs to be said.

Poisoined Minds (http://www.poisonedminds.com/%5B/url) - PG or PG13, two different alternating storylines mainly dealing with a troop on a floating city, the other is basically the daily life of a group of friends.

Carry On (http://www.hirezfox.com/km/co/co1024/co.html) - PG or PG13.  Centered around a family of Hyenas, which closely attempts to follow the hierarchical family structure, with the younger generation that doesn't follow said structure.  Set in the future (around 2066)

Stalag 99 (http://www.stalag99.net/) - PG or PG13.  Comic set in the future with an alien race of polymorph furs that live on Earth.  --> About Stalag 99 (http://www.stalag99.net/info/about.html)

The Whiteboard (http://www.the-whiteboard.com/index.html) - Just started reading this comic today, so I don't particularly know what its about.  The Whiteboard Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Whiteboard)

Original Life (http://www.jaynaylor.com/originallife/) - PG:  Done by the famous Jay Naylor (who does R rated art and comics), this comic centers around a family who's dad does secret gov't assassination work.

Ctrl-Al-Del Comic (http://www.cad-comic.com/cad/) - Used to follow this website when it only dealt with computer hardware.  It went defunct, and the url was bought by someone else and is now a comic centered around gaming

Dueling Analogs (http://www.duelinganalogs.com/) - Another webcomic centered around gaming.

Finders Keepers (http://www.finderskeepers.gcgstudios.com/) - PG/PG13  Mainly deals with the Mythos

The Wotch (http://www.thewotch.com/) - Sort of deals with weres and wizards, transformation and transgendering (Ka-change, Ka-girl)

Three Walls Tavern (http://www.threewallstavern.net/) - used to be called Crap Comics, artist draws stick figures and has a random storyline

Cross Time Cafe (http://www.whiteponyproductions.com/comicstrips/ctc/present.htm) - G - Characters from other comics come together and mingle without affecting the storylines of their representative comics (FreeFall, Carry On, Freighter Tails, 21st Century Fox, and other random characters)

Project Future (http://project-future.org/)  No description needed since we all know about this one

VG Cats (http://www.vgcats.com/comics/)  Yet another webcomic based around gaming.  Main characters are cats.

Cats N Cameras (http://catsncameras.com/cnc/) - PG13/R - Centered around a group of friends, with one artist ending the current arc and some new artists will be coming in to continue.  Comic mainly deals with them working at a photoshoot studio.  Also, characters are a mix of humans and furries coexisting in the same universe.

Slightly Damned (http://raizap.com/sdamned/index.php) Just started reading this comic, so I don't know everything about it yet.  Characters are a mix of mythos, furries and human.

The Stone of Adventure (http://www.josemadre.com/~lightfoot/home_s.html) PG-R.  Several different comics on this website, from a Final Fantasy based comic to a one off comic where a news reporter increases her breasts to a gigantic size to report on a new fashion fad among women to increase their breasts to epic sizes.

The FoxFire Chronicles (http://www.ariannia.com/) We all know what this webcomic is about.

Pawn (http://www.pawn.se/)  Human girl teams up with a demon and have many epic misadventures

21st Century Fox (http://www.hirezfox.com/21cf/index.html)  Comic set in the future (2066) and all the animals still follow the typical chain of command of nature

Got a few comic recommendations that no one's mentioned yet:

Hanna Is Not A Boy's Name (http://hanna.aftertorque.com/) - If you're not reading this comic, do yourself a favor and start doing so. It's about a guy named Hanna who works as a paranormal investigator (but he's not terribly good at it), narrated by a guy who died ten years ago and ends up being his partner. It's got absolutely wonderful art, great characters, and the story's awesome. Great use of typography, too. ;D

Nedroid Picture Diary (http://nedroid.com/) - The very funny and absurd adventures of Beartato and Reginald are a must read. The Livejournal Mirror (http://nedroidcomics.livejournal.com/) has other bonus content as well.

Hark, A Vagrant! (http://harkavagrant.com/) - Probably the funniest history comic you'll ever read (though it touches other topics as well). Kate Beaton has a great unique and flowy style of art too.

I'm late to the party, so here's my three plus an appeal for help.

http://www.ozfoxes.com/fauxpas.htm -- Faux Pas is the story of Randy and his animal friends, most of whom were trained to be studio animal actors. Intelligent, great humor, and above all charming.

http://www.thedreamlandchronicles.com/ -- The Dreamland Chronicles follows Alex and his return to a land full of elves, fairies, dragons, magic, and yes, a cat girl after a 12 year absense.  Now on Chapter 15 of 24.

http://lowroad75.comicgenesis.com/ -- Giselle is the story of a teenage demon girl, seriously considering getting a job but more seriously loafing.  Lots of fun social commentary and character surprises.

The last one I found while on a trip but can't remember the name of it.  It's the story of a talking, more than slightly sarcastic female snake and the perplexed human man who lets it stay in his apartment.  Along with that is a male rat who lives in the walls and the awkward romantic tension between them.  5th grade art but first class writing. Probably more laughs per comic than any other web comic I've read.  Title is some sort of pun on snakes, I'm sure.

Back on the issue of passing time... how about some -extremely awesome- super-high quality animated videos, by the Furry fandom's own Tirrel/Cerberus (http://www.furaffinity.net/gallery/cerberus/)?
1. Absolute best animated music video I've ever seen: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1517567/
2. Short animated story: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3375324/
And several more on his FA page.
I have to say, its some of the best animation I've -ever- seen, and hands-down the best flash work I've seen.

---
Of course, thats another fun pastime: Going through peoples FA and DA pages - for example, what about Missmab (http://www.furaffinity.net/gallery/missmab/)'s, or Turnsky (http://www.furaffinity.net/gallery/turnsky)'s, or Tom(TwoKinds author) (http://twokinds.deviantart.com/)'s etc...

Comic wise, what about DreamKeepers (http://www.dreamkeeperscomic.com/) - Both a webcomic, and an actual indie graphic novel(which are excellent, BTW

What, no mention of Ursula Vernon's Digger? (http://www.diggercomic.com/) as it reaches its climax? Digger is the story of a wombat who doesn't want anything to do with magic, gods, or vampiric vegetables. Guess how well that turns out. Vernon's art and sense of humour make Digger into one of my favourite webcomics.

Another classy bit of work is Lackadaisy (http://www.lackadaisycats.com/) by Tracey J. Butler. Lackadaisy's art is superb, its characters are charming, and it's set in 1920s St. Louis. For those of you not in the know, that means rum-running, swing dancing, and flappers doing their thing. This is among the best comics out there.

And for a change of pace, ladies and germs, I present to you hiimdaisy's comics! (http://hiimdaisy.livejournal.com/) If you are a fan of any of the video game series listed in the tags (http://hiimdaisy.livejournal.com/tag/) (most notably Metal Gear, Ace Attorney, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and Persona), then these will probably kill you with delight. Unless you take your games seriously or something, in which case you are a silly person.

There, that's two plot-based comics with humour involved and one link to a handful of hilarious game parodies. :V And by echoing the recommendations for Gunnerkrigg Court, Pictures for Sad Children, and Hark! A Vagrant, I've effectively listed all of my favourite webcomics in this post.

This was actually pretty hard to narrow down. :U *lame* ANYWAY I will warn you if it happens to cater to my more... eccentric...  (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/UnusualEuphemism) interests.

Sebastian and the Beast (http://dogmatix.insanejournal.com/47334.html), one of my fangirl obsessions. (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/YaoiFangirl) Don't worry, there's nothing bad there... yet. Besides fangirls. Updates every Thursday, for those interested.

Darths&Droids (http://www.darthsanddroids.net/episodes/0383.html): Otherwise known as quite possibly the best Star Wars based comic EVER. It's absolutely hilarious, and THEY MADE JAR-JAR LIKEABLE. Updates on Tuesday, Thursday, and I think Sunday. :) It's kinda like DM of the Rings, only better.

And my computer is starting to hate this post, so I'm stopping. Stupid computer.

to say ,i have wasted enormous amounts of time on NationStates (www.nationstates.net) which started when i had swine flu in october, was in quarantene for a week and was too tired +fever to do anything.
As far as webcomics go , my order of preference

DMFA
Questionable Content
XKCD
Piled Higher & Deeper
Geek Hero  - i like to read this one in batches
Simulated Comic Product - it ended but there are the archives - i would say occasionally way better than XKCD, but less regularly updated, so it ranks lower. BTW the guy is doing new stuff now

DMFA, obvs, but other than that we've got:
No Rest For The Wicked (http://forthewicked.net/) - irregular updates, but every page is worth it. Wonderful bastard-amalgamation of fairytales such as the Princess and the Pea, Puss in Boots, Red Riding Hood and the Girl with No Hands. (Red is wonderful.)
Lackadaisy (http://www.lackadaisycats.com/) - although it was already mentioned, and rightfully so. This is some of the best artwork I've ever seen, and every time I see someone in a Zoot suit I feel much happier. Terrific storytelling, too, charming characters.
DrowTales (http://www.drowtales.com/) - the update schedule is very quick, I love Kern's artwork and the improvement he has achieved is astounding, and good god the pages that are produced are stunning. I like the world he has set up too, although the political scenes drag a lot. (He says he'll fix that.) Mel'arnach is a great character.
Earthsong (http://www.earthsongsaga.com) - the story has been dragging a bit, but Lady Yates has been sticking to her schedule remarkably well even though she just gave birth to her second son. I've been following this webcomic for a long time and the art is wonderful. Lady Yates's art has just been improving and improving and improving.

I wish Jay Naylor brought back New Worlds; it was the only one of his webcomics I actually liked. Too bad he discontinued it. :<

I would suggest  Catena Manor  (http://catenamanor.com/) - a great funny comic about a bunch of cats living in the same building, each being their own sort of weirdo :)

And although it was mentioned  Least I Could Do  (http://leasticoulddo.com/) - super comedy updated daily, a must see!

Well most of what I read is already here but here's a few more:

First of  CVRPG  (http://www.cvrpg.com/main.php) we all know this one.
Next up is  Furfire  (http://www.furfire.org/), the story of a half humain half fierwolf, who is the last of the Furmentals. It's a good comic but it hasn't updated in a few monts now.
And last but not least  What do you do  (http://leasticoulddo.com/), a RPG parody tipe comic. It works similarry to a RPG because it folows the dissions of the readers, so what you say can matter. It's a halarious comic and it ceurently updates every 12H. It also contains several animated scenes for more laughts.
