Title: 10/17/09 [DMFA #1051] - Fatherly Flashback Advice
Post by: Lorien on October 17, 2009, 04:00:31 AM
I loled.  I wonder what Alexsi and Abel are discussing in the background?

And Amber, don't be so hard on yourself about the wallpapers.  Abel's story turned out to be a lot more work than anticipated, and you've done such an excellent job on it.  :)

Wasn't expecting him to say that....

And I wonder too what Abel's looking at there....

A lot of my fatherly advice memories run along those lines too. What I love here is that there's thing happening in the background too.

That was brilliant.  And yay, Edward.
Could Dan perhaps move his date so they don't conflict?  And lend Fi to Alexsi to keep in a bag or something?  That would give them a way to call for help (which they probably don't need given Pyroduck, but it would make Dan happier.)

That would be sensible, Tapewolf.

... so, of course, it wouldn't happen in a million years. ;-]

I keep waiting for someone to make something out of the last panel, something like 'Table incubi disapproves'

It's a sepia print or something.  A video effect basically, pay it no mind.

I feel strangely disappointed that my dad has never given me advice like this :< HE'S ONLY GIVEN ME USEFUL ADVICE.

I agree with Tapewolf on the brilliant thing. I laughed like an idiot.

When Aniz was disguised as Cid, he covered part of his left arm (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Abel_87.php) to keep people from seeing his clan mark.  In this image, Edward's right arm is covered in the same place while his left arm is out of sight. (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_1051.php)  I think that Amber is trying to keep the emotions bubbling about a certain subject while not providing any actual information.

Hmm... does Edward have both a pony tail, a little braid, bangs, and a beard? Very hairy man, yes yes.
And this could be very useful information... maybe he's taking Matilda to a, uh, seafood place...that doesn't scale the fish...

Yeah, it's a flashback image, Amber is experimenting with color effects.

Amber is just doing it so she can watch the speculation go wild.  Pay it no mind, we will get an answer eventually.

*snerk!* This takes me back to Biology of Fishes in college.  Skinning a fish alive is actually quite easy once you know how.  >:3

All that aside, I love Dan's face in that last panel.  I can just hear his chin going "thunk" on the table.  Funny thing is I'm also more intrigued as to what they're discussing in the background.

How much is him and how much is his incubi nature? A good number of character traits are cubi like or similar to his mothers personality (at that age). Perhaps they both flow into each other, for example In my case I am not a person with dyslexia but a dyslexic person, it fundamentally affects who you are.

Edit: I'd also say Ed was Tan not black, curious how both of his kids ended up a lot lighter (especially as kids of being/cubi couple usually take after the being parent in appearance)

I'm wondering whether the introductory courses at SAIA will be able to unlock his potential and make him smarter and more focused.

I do wonder if the hundred of years cubi spend at SAIA is to do with their short attention span, they have to learn everything in very small chunks.

Abel was singing or whistling to himself...
Now he's looking over thataway -->
Alexi is approaching that direction like she's perturbed.

Either we've got a dragon trying to enter who's not following the local "you must wear these giant pair of khaki pants" law, or dark pegasus just stopped in for tea and crumpets.

The line about the dragon refuseing to wear the pants did the same for me.

Also I just noticed Amber needs to update the copyright notice at the bottom of the page. It's still dated 2008 >.<

Are you sure you want Dan of all people to be focused?
He is a much safer individual with a short attention span and getting his mental train derailed at the drop of a hat.
A focused Dan would be able to do things beyond what our scatterbrained Dan can.

Dan like this seems liable to get himself killed.  Besides which I have little patience for fools, I'm sorry to say...

Honestly, I doubt this will happen. Dan's been shown to be capable of being really serious - and besides, having a character remain the same way for the purpose of a gag throughout the whole story is just really bad storytelling. Character development, people.

Amber makes it work because she is a good storyteller.  That's even more important than the artwork,  as is apparent in the early episodes, back when Ambers's was still green.

There are a number of webcomics out there that work because of good storytelling, even though the art is nothing to write home about, or even crude.   DMFA stated out there, but Amber's art has outgrown that long ago.
