Title: The War Continues (D&D RP OOC Thread)
Post by: Manawolf on July 12, 2006, 05:58:36 PM
Everyone make it over okay?  I feel like some of you left the old forum without looking back.  Working on the transfer and was waiting for everyone to give the okay, but that doesn't seem to be happening.

Sheesh, you're the only one who seems to have gotten the message.  Well, I left another one at the end of the last post of the RP thread on the old forum, so we'll see soon.

When is the other forum going down?

I think Amber was going to give a month or two for everyone to get situated, so we have to move this over sooner or later.

Well, I kinda made it in one piece. Didn't Azlan say he copied the IC posts for the RP?

I've heard nothing of this.  Azlan's on thin ice as it is, but this might sustain him if he comes forward about it.

You do mean the DAFFA RP right :P ?

Excuse me?  Who elected you as my judge and executioner?  Look to your own house and excessive flaws before you cast stones at me.

Anyways, the RP is retained though it hits the 3 mb size limit as a Word file.

Edit: This thread is for Mana's RP, not the other one.

That's why I put the whole D&D RP thread to the title, unless that other RP is also D&D.

And remember Azlan, DM is god.  As god, I decide who stays and leaves based on various factors.  Annoying characters who never listen get the boot.  I don't care what kind of demeanor they have, if they're unruly little bastards, they will be thrown into the sea.  I also asked for you to state your name, yet apparently your character decided to neglect.  The title of "The Rogue" is fitting your character quite well at the moment, though.  You also have to think realistically, how much tolerance would a Lawful army have for an unruly subordinate.  Not much last I checked.

Oh... I got confused since Azlan's RP was also based on D&D rules. Silly me.

:poke what is the word on the DAFFA RP?

Now we have our tempoary GM back and as far as i can tell, all of the Rper's have transfered over to the new forum, what are we going to do about coppying the IC posts over?

I didn't say I "wanted" to be in the army... and no GM is truly 'GOD' (unless you were joking with that), they are referees, guides and teachers.  It is a poor GM that forces a group down the path he chooses for them.   Well, that's my opinion at least, so it is likely we differ on this a bit.  I was part of the original group that broke Gygax's Temple of Elemental Evil, when he was running it at GenCon, by going in the back door...

But that's besides the point, I'll try to curb back her personality... but she is one of those that talks to me in my sleep.  I really made a mistake by having DV create her... Astraea has been brow-beating me senseless for miss-making her, now its too late to take her suggestions and redo the character.  It might be best if you tossed her in the sea or she wandered off.  Then maybe I couldmake someone more to her tastes, this one is too much like Lorelei for this RP.

It will continue soon, I just need to get off my @ss and do something about it.

I thought about just posting one huge post with all the previous RP posts in it... but I dun think that would work, the mods would probably hang me or something.

Edit: darn it I will get used to this forum some day!
Edit2: added reply to second post

Don't see why the mods would complain, the only people that are going to read the post are the RPers.. And they posted the stuff :P

If you need help copying stuff, i don't mind... got nothing to do at the moment anyway...

It would be beneficial to you.  I gave you the Gauntlets of Ogre Power, since it would bring your STR to 22 and you use a two handed weapon.

As for you, Azlan, I may be vocal, but I am also a patient man.  I'd be willing to help work up a new character.

Edit: Nevermind.  Anyway, if any of you are still wondering about what Rakuras said about use magic device for sorcerers, it's only a cross class skill for them.  Rogue's, Warlocks and Bards are the only classes that get use magic device as class skills (last I checked, and I'm sure there are some prestige classes out there too).

Okay, I'm here- albeit against my will :P Heh. MOW SMILEYS! WHOOOOOOOOOOO *dies*

Ahem. Just reposting from the other OOC: I'm gone this weekend for Comic Con. Thursday the 20th I may be about late in the day but the rest of the time I'll be geeking with the rest on a grand floor of comic bliss. So, NPC mode for Joulzen if needed and keep them healed Mana. You've got my spell list and hope to see the lot of your Monday or so. Toodles.

Well, I'm back from my trip. Looks like I didn't miss too much of the action.

Quick question before I get started on the interrogation. Given how time-consuming a back-and-forth interview could be, would you rather I play out the interaction in the RP thread or script out questions in advance?

Oh, and Zeth will be taking the cash, too.

Don't forget Beguilers and Spellthieves.  :mowwink It's mostly a moot point, anyway, as only Azlan's rogue has the skill. I sacrificed the great power of UMD to buy all those RP-oriented skills on my toon.  :mowtongue

If you have AIM, Tez, we could have it all worked out on there.  I noticed with the negotiation with Saeoun it worked better to make questions playing off what the person just said.  At the least we can work it out through PMs.

Marosharr of the Stalking Wolf clan

The male feline before you is of slightly below average Height for a member of the catfolk race, standing roughly 5'6", and is light of build, weighing only 150 pounds.  He has long tawny-brown hair held in multiple small braids, and dark grey fur covered with many lighter colored rossette patterns over the rest of his body.  A small number of small metal and bone charms are woven into the braids on the back of his head.

This short feline is wearing a shirt of chain armor over a rough-woven tunic, and a dark leather vest over both of them.  Over his legs are tough looking tan leather trousers and a pair ofrugged black boots addorn his feet.  The hilt of a dagger peeks out from the top of one of them.  The vest and pants are covered with various pockets, and a number of pouches hang from his belt.  The bulge of a pack is seen beneath the rough woolen cloak that is slung over his shoulders, and a pair of gloves are tucked into his belt opposite a shortsword.  A single small saphire addorns the pommel of the sword, and seems to glow with a cold flame as the light hits it.

His ears are erect and twitching with interest, and a smile tugs at his mouth as you realize that he is studying you in kind.

Manawolf, just as a helping hand to yourself and the players alike, I think location tags would be helpful in keeping the seperate groups better organized. I will also cut back on future confusion of who's where.
Title: Re: The War Continues (D&D RP OOC Thread)
Post by: Manawolf on July 24, 2006, 04:39:38 PM
Well, I did say where everyone was in the starting post of the IC thread, but I will reiterate.

The characters of E_Voyager, Joshua and Saeoun are at the temple of Pelor with the priest and the 6 clerics from the temple as well that have been following Saeoun, but will be moving onto the trail of the orcs soon enough.

Azlan, DDR, Lobsopdoy, and Myself are outside the temple of Kord, along with 10 of my soldiers.

DV, Zander, Malakin, DG, and Rakuras are at the Eastgate, along with Lars the overseer of Eastgate and his 8 gaurds, and also the 12 engineers who hauled the cannons to Eastgate.

Tezkat is back at the shipyard warehouse, where he's interrogating the Orc POWs, along with a few dozen soldiers standing guard over the area.

If anyone needs a reposting of the map, just ask.

Edit: Another note folks on how I run my RPs.  I am combining Disable Device and Open Lock.  Hey, they combined Bluff and Innuendo, and rogues already have enough skills to get without needing to worry about needing one skill to jam the lock, and another one to actually spring it.

The armory hold about 10 of each type of weapon and armor, and few pieces of masterwork quality.

Here are the current XP values for the PCs:

Most level 8 players: 30000 XP

Azlan, Lobsopdoy: 23490 XP

Reese: 27490 XP

A 500 XP reward was given to everyone for taking back the temple.

He said he was going to be away, but it has been rather long.  Most troubling, especially with the job on his character.  Far too valuable just to let him go.  Anyway, I can get things moving again for the group at the Cathedral if you wish.

Edit: I'd also like everyone to repost their character sheets, I'm having trouble tracking people.

Short and slender, many tend to underestimate Sasha and some have even lived to regret that mistake.              :p              Her size and rather rough appearance do nothing to help her short temp and poor attitude. But, what she lacks in social skills she makes up for in fierceness and loalty. In short, she's not the friendliest person in the world, but you'd rather fight beside her then against her.
Sasha's were-heritage is were-tiger. Though only slightly noticable in normal form, it become much more noticable when she shifts.
Sasha's closest kin are an mother(human), father(shifter), and older brother(shifter).

Edit: on another note, Pixel still has not contacted me.

Our dog has also eaten a chunk out of pineapple himself.  Also, she means MM4, got some nasty in there.  Also, Zander, I'll have to put you on NPC control if you don't respond by the end of today.

I still think those at the Gate are lost, like myself. Been gone for, oh, since my first set of posts due to no one doing squat and my interest fading at the lack of anyone actually doing anything. So, at this point I'm calling this a loss on me and looking to pull out unless Joulzen is needed and at that point I need to be updated on what the hell has happened other than a few new people wandering through the closed gate and talking for a few minutes. Don't care about what's going on that the churches so that I've 'read', but I've heard little meantion of the engineers and gate-folk. Care to let us know where we are Mana or am I going to have to drop my character off at the nearest sewer and leave these bloody little forums forever?

Well, I'm sorry if I lost you.  We do still have a good healer, so it wouldn't be too much of a loss.  Now I just have to find a way for you to realistically move out of the RP.  Hm, you technically haven't done any fighting yet...

Alright, the battle is won, and it's time to administer the XP.  Most of the players have now reached 31418,  While Azlan and Lob have reached 25053, and Reese has reached 29053, which means he just made it to level 8.

Also, for planting the standard and protecting it from the enemy, everyone has gained 30 recognition points.

DV's holding things up a bit.  I'd hate to skip her, I don't know what'd I do with her as an NPC, it's just getting annoying.

For now, it's item time over at the temple of Kord.  If anyone over there sees something they like on the list, just have at it.  I'd suggest the poisons to our ninja, since he's the only one who can use them safely and proficiently.

Potions of haste ^_^

Considering how fast Marosharr is already, I'd hate to see what he's like on haste xD

I would certainly appreciate it if a few of the potions of haste and keen edge oils were saved so I could get at them when I rejoin the party.

They came in before you left, okay, you're still at the temple right now.

Edit: Okay, I've talked with DV, seems she's been hit with some ailments on her first week of school.  However, I was able to get a battle plan out of her.  I think I can work out a move, even if it's almost like skipping her turn.  Have to get this thing rolling again.

*sigh* Well, seems someone lost my message in the jargoning then. I asked for an update on what the heck happened since we restarted here. Last I heard was we had engineers going to a gate, some people prance through the gate, and now something about a tavern. Between these three events I lurked, got lost, and I am requesting an update. NOW. If you'd like to keep me, fill me in. If not, then toss my character out a three story window without a mattress below. Okay, you, E_Voyager, Zander, DV, Joshua and Saeoun all went to the brewery.  Once there, you heard orcs inside.  Zander and Saeoun lured and KO'ed two of them, then Josh sent his character Sasha in to deal with the rest.  E provided cover fire, and another orc went down, everyone moved into the brewery to assist in taking down the orcs, with Saeoun working to heal those who got hit by the orcs.  We're currently down to 6 orcs, 3 on each side of Sasha, lined up behind a pile of boxes stacked about 3 feet high.  Sasha moved in through a break in the boxes, and E's dog jump over them to get at the orcs.  As of this turn, only Sasha and Amarillis (DV's character) have turns left, but I suppose you could still jump in to help with or whatever.  Saeoun's done a pretty good job of keeping the team healed, but Sasha has taken a bit of a beating.  You could move in and try and heal her, since the space behind her is still open.

Aw, too bad.  Does stink a little to lose a healer, but that's what I keep Saeoun and Marethial around.  Damn, and DDR was out to, so his healing powers aren't going to be utilized.

I can't have over 10 people with only 2 healers.  Well, I did give Saeoun that attachment of clerics to provide back up healing.  We'll see how things play out.

Edit: I swear we gave Sasha Improved Two Weapon Fighting so she could make a second off hand attack.  She should have picked it up at level 6.

Edit again: You took Dodge?  Oh wait, Tempest, now I remember.  Well, you'll need Improved Two Weapon at some point for the class qualifications. Should make for a nice feat at level 9.

Alright folks, the brewery has been liberated.  XP is in order for defeating the enemy, and also saving our dear brewmaster.

500 XP goes to all for defeating the orcs, except Lob and the others, who get 586 XP.  Valder, since you're finally level 8, you only get the 500 XP with everyone else.  Also, for saving an endangered man, you earn 6 recognition points, bringing it up to 36.  60 XP is also awarded to everyone for those recognition points.  This should bring the XP values up to 31978 (everyone who started at level 8), 25699 (Lob and everyone who still have +1 level adjustments), and 29613 (Reese Tora's XP).

Probably why I ended up buying most of my food at the market and then bringing it to my dorm instead daring to delve into the horrors of the cafeteria.

Ok after some checking and recalculting, the stage I worked on that was coming next, is no more (untill we get 1-2 more clerics  or a extra 3 levels over the avrage party lvl that the adventure started off needing) Far too many undead, and very very small chance to kill all of them.

The good news is I had a few monsters from MM4 that i wanted to use and could not fit in, so I'm going to create something based on them.

We'll be going up a few levels before leaving the city, though I'd see maybe 2 inside, and then another 1 if we manage to finally push back and take out the leaders of this invasion force.

yes, but the adveture needed lvl 12s to start, and that just gets us to 10-11. And that was with 3 clerics and 13 PCs. lvl 15 with ten would be a severe challange. Let me put it this way there is a 21 hd boss in there w/minons, that was meant to be fought with everyone.

*Sigh* and a number of people have dropped out.  Zander's gone awol (he'll have to be removed at some point), DDR's gone and not coming back, Tezkat still won't respond and thus will need to be removed, and Rakuras has dropped out.  I have at least 2 more people coming in, but they're not really healers (though one is a monk and thus may be of help to keep himself alive).  Saeoun's got his work cut out for him, but having his only team of clerics to aid in healing may also help.

One can never have too many clerics... well, that is not entirely true, but its always good to have a lot of healing power around.  Maybe I should have focused on just being a cleric, more then a stalker... oh well, I got a severe level gap to try and breach anyways.

In the end after around three game meetings everyone started losing interest and they still had not rescued their companion that I'd captured.

Okay, I happed to be reading a Dragonlance  novel this (9/20) morning and this guy comes up and starts spewing that D&D is the tool of satan crap. I mean what are we living  in the 80's? How did this guy know that Dragonlance is even related to D&D?
Is he really eating the oozy opace pink semi-peramble mass that the the cafe calls yogurt? Didn't he tell me he was a bio major?

Anyway I ignored him until he ate the yogurt, then I lost all apptinte, threw away the rest of my food, and drank 2-3 glasses of soda water to settle my stonumch. (yes, that subtance is that unapptzing) (in D&D terms I would rather eat a gelatious cube than the "yogurt")

oh and I have to agree with azlan, english is not the hardest thing to read or write in, but that was compltely illegible!
Forgive my spelling But I'm just posting until the room across the hall turns off the "disney's greatest hits" CD, Getting woken up by " all the colors of the wind" at 11pm pisses me off for somereason...
Wha? may not be clear but It is a catchphrase on a popular tv show. (The simpsons, futurama,  the daliy show, need I go on?)

D&D is not the tool of Satan.  FATAL is the tool of satan.  If any Pen and Paper RPG out there is his tool, it's FATAL.

Well the really strange part just was that the groups who tend to have that view tend to belive in creationism, and  he was a bio major. And of course that bashing RPGs went out of style in the late 80's. And of course made no sense if you have ever played. And were endorsed by a doctor who later had is lisance revoked for malpracitice and was generrly consedered to be  nuts, and a middle aged housewife with a complete lack of morals, who said that she had played yet seemed to not understand anything. Oh and a few convected felons, who later retacted their statments.

More than 19, that's what I missed on.

Just a note, I usually make my posts at a time when Mana is online, so I check if I hit or not before I post.  If I don't hit, I don't bother rolling for damage.  If there isn't a link to damage in my post, then I probably didn't hit.

If anyone is a little lost on how mush we've all actually earned since the start of the RP, the total for each of us is currently 15589 GP, 2 SP.  For those who came in a little later, like Reese and Zedd, the total for you is actually 11484 GP, 2 SP, and for Papi and Zaon, the total is just the 6801 GP, 7 SP.  Add those values to your respective character stats (deducting any costs for anything you may have bought after the start if you haven't already).

Here's some background on the house of the fire-star

The house of the Fire-Star ( Stacirillis)

The Point of pride for the House is the legend that they are desended from an avatar of Corellan Larethian, who impregnated the House's First leader, the holy liberator ( Stacirillis). The main branch of the house uses her name for it's surname. Acorreding to legend he was disguised as a Firre eladrin, hence the talent for fire magic past down through the ages.

The house crest is a red cresent moon with 8 flames at the compus points. each flame represents a quality or milestone. Each member displays the crest only with the flames he or she has a right to. The Heir must be able to manifest the flames of the south (birth into the house) East (clerical or sorcurous power) North (awakening one of the relics of Stacirillis) West (rebirth, being raised from the dead or becoming a half-celestial). The dead of the house always have a flame in the center of the moon on their crest, this is the 9th flame, the flame of divinity, immortality and death.

The other 4 flames are South-East (the flame of growth and spring ( reaching adulthood)), North-East ( The flame of trial and summer ( finishing at least 40 years as a adventurer)), North-West( the flame of  Rest and autumm ( marriage)) South-West( the flame of renewal and winter( first child)).

Each flame has many other affinties, not listed here.

Each member of the house has the supernatural ability to manifest their current crest at will, the crest appears floating in midair. It is completely harmless and is just used for ID.

Amarillis is the oldest of the possible heirs from the main house, she can manifest the flames of the south, south-east, east and needs only 25 more years to manifest the flame of the North-West. She has the Star-Fire Blade as her relic (her masterwork rapier). She took a 10 year break to care for her new sister, and had been adventuring for only 3 weeks before the campain started. She came to Saltmarsh meet up with her brother. She is 129 years old.

She has two siblings. Her brother, Otiril , is 129 years, is a cleric of corellan larithian, and has the Moon-Fire Belt as his relic. She has a sister who is just a child of 30 years. Her name is Lia, and her relic will be the Sun-Fire Bow (a masterwork longbow). Her father, Panamros , is head of her village and is the current head of the house, his relic was the Sun-Fire Bow. Her mother, Quiora, married into the house and as such cannot manifest or display the crest.

Technecly Otiril is her twin, but he was born 11 hours and 54 minutes after her, and so his birthday is a day after her, so everyone refers to him as her younger brother.

While doing some future planning I realized I needed to get magicial aptuiude next lvl instead of leadership, so Otiril won't show up untill ~12 lvl. So I'm not going to post his bio yet, and since he and Amarillis are very interwined her's isn't going up either.

A note to the players:  Schools starting to build up a little, and the fact my comp's overheating isn't helping.  I'm going to be swamped until December, so don't expect much to happen until then.  Just get your money stored and everything sorted out so we'll be ready to head off again once I get some time back on my side.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but 4 papers aren't going to write themselves.

Not that it particularly matters, but since I'm out of the story (pretty much since the inception) and off guarding the gate, I'm going to withdraw from the game.

Have fun storming the castle!

Well, just to let you know, my parents had me do my own christmas shopping, and I got Complete Mage, Dragon Magic, and Fiendish Codex 1&2.  Probably won't be as funny as both of us getting each other Book of Vile Darkness, but we'll see.

That was very very odd.....let's see if it happens again....that would be 2 years in a row. Would that mean we have a "profound mystical undertanding" ?

Hm, Complete Scoundrel doesn't come out until its time for my Birthday, and I usually shy away from Campaign specific books (I'd like to make up my own worlds, thank you, though it does help to get some info on what kind of terrain or locales to put in).  Spell compendium I wasn't sure if I would be needing, as new spells were coming out all the time and I practically had all the spell lists in my current books already.  That Magic Item Compendium was also an interesting idea, though it brings up my previous statement.

Frankly I'm working on a bit of a budget this Christmas (Sister having to get dentures and getting your house repiped aren't cheap), and I was pretty much working with a 100 dollar budget in the way of christmas presents.  Of course I also wanted to see about getting a mini PS2 once the price hit rock bottom (very likely with PS3 now out), but it would come down to either the system or the books.

Edit: Great, now I find out Stormwrack's like 1 of a 3 piece set (alongside Frostburn and Sandstorm).  I'll have to remember those for my birthday as well.

If you can't tell, I'm crazy about character options and venue ideas!

Yeah, but when you have a LA of +7, things get troublesome, since now if you're going to be facing other monster with class levels, you could be in trouble.

Anyway, what's your purpose here?  Interested in joining?

Mana I need to correct you a mind flayer does have a LA of +7 but it's ECL is 15. So a 1st level mindflayer is a 16th level PC. Fiend folio has a half-mind flayer...but I left it at school...I think it has a +4 level ajustment...and as a template a ECL of 4+HD(class levels).
Title: Re: The War Continues (D&D RP OOC Thread)

I'm well aware of how troublesome a LA+7 with racial HD can be.  I am still using the reduce LA variant, and actually it would make some characters more doable in my gestalt campaign I'm planning (you need to gain class levels to reduce LA, but I'm allowing racial HD to coincide with a class for gestalted characters).

If you're already confused, I'm not holding it against you.

Gestalt only initially seems to allow for base class combinations and not racial template classes.  However, I haven't followed that very closely, is their an official caveat to this or are you implementing a "house" rule for that?

I'm only asking because there may be a similar campaign beginning locally and the person running it is a strict rules lawyer.  I'd like some evidence to pursue my case if there is any, otherwise I'll plead down another avenue.

This will not be happening in this campaign...at least not for a while if I ever think things through.  And yes, I am combining a number of variants for the gestalt idea, and the dual classing of racial HD and classes is just a way to make monster races more playable in that campaign.

To be honest, I'm still not sure whether to run the gestalt RP I have in mind here or on the Jack forum (I've told people from both forums about it).  It was going to be sea based as well, thanks to Stormwrack.  Seemed fitting to dual classing in a campaign which would involve dual enviroments (going from land to ship to water to land and back again).

I don't have the book on hand, but I believe there's a feat, Shape Spell I think, that lets one shape a spell to avoid hitting allies.
Title: Re: The War Continues (D&D RP OOC Thread)
Post by: Manawolf on November 29, 2006, 02:02:12 PM
Yes, there is a feat that allows you to make a concentration check to hit all but one ally with a spell, but DV is already getting two metamagic feats to cut down on the damage she would do to allies.  Perhaps in the future she could also call for someone to cast resist energy before the spell as well.
Title: Re: The War Continues (D&D RP OOC Thread)

I saw a neat feat in Dragon that made it so a spell wouldn't damage inanimate objects, it was called Relic(something).

Post by: Dragonvixen on November 30, 2006, 01:15:42 AM
I think I need to add one more Tidbit why I'm not taking any more metamagic feats....I'm Playing a Spontanous caster, ok.. I can cast normaly thanks to PH2, but I like purify and consacrate. This is the last level I will damage allies...execept mal...fully. Most of the spells I'm taking are from BoED so they don't damage good people...

I had Mana with a LG alinment when I chose to cast... Since it appers my Alignment Data is off and I have a Major Alignment Based Caster (Based on Destroying G opponents)  coming up...PM me with the Correct AL, so I can find the errors and fix them) (The whole thing requires a certain number of G AL's...If I don't have them I'll switch the AL attacked)

The Post has been Edited to mark that Error....And to nullify that post....Since the robed Kuo-toan fell I'm moving 20ft before casting, I Take a AoO but none one is in the way... Oh..and My Conentraion Check was 13+12= 25....So as long as I take less than 13 points of damage the spell goes off.

Josh is LN, Marethial is LG (since she's a favored soul of Heironious).

Also, with where you now stood when you cast burning hands, you just hit Marethial, and only one of the kuo-toans (though at least it was still the cleric.

Edit: Okay, let me try to work this out.  First time you moved 10 feet to be behind Josh, but now you're moving 20 feet to be to the left of Josh?  Now, you could move 20 feet and be standing to the left of Marethial, and actually checking over the spread on a 15 foot cone (the attack shape of a burning hands), you could have hit both the cleric and fighter kuo-toans without any problems.

If we're going to start using exact movement based combat, maybe we ought to have a map so we can see what our characters are doing.

well, a simple coordinate map (like battleship) with no characers on it was what I was thinking, then each player can declare his position and moves, and stuff, the DM just has to declare the positions of the enemies on the map... and I think mana is already keeping a map of sorts for reference anyway

It'd just be a jpeg image, so any photobucket account would do.

(completely off topic, I'm thinking developing a php-based tactical mapper for D&D, but wouldn't have a place to host it if I do make one, nor any art to represent terrain and walls and so forth.)

For those interested, I'm starting up a new D&D campaign on another forum.  It's going to be a gestalt campaign, which I'll have explained in more detail on that forum.  Here's the link if yo want in:

And once again it is experience time.  Having defeated the kuo-toans, and getting a bonus 500 XP from destroying the statue, the majority of the players are up to 34587 XP.  Meanwhile, The characters Keothi and Marosharr are up to 32222 XP, and finally, Ket and Quav have made it up to 28888 XP, meaning they have gained a new level.

Well, For me the Holidays are over (I'm Jewish) and I've come away with Races of the wild, Races of Destiny, Races of Stone, Complete Arcane and MM3...All of which were already in the campain. However I did get one book that Mana and I wanted to add into the campain from the start that neither of us owned ....Weapons of Legacy. So from this day forth this book is in Play!

Sorry guys, but two days before Christmas i came down with a real killer of a head cold..

Now this may sound pathetic :P but it kills my eyes to look at a computer screen atm, so there is going to be a real lack of posting from me till i get better, but its not like people are going to be posting much at this time of year so it does not make much difference.

I have no idea when i am going to kick this, so i cant give a date when I'm going to get back..

Ah well, see ya all later...

Well, not much has happened in that time.  We're on the fring of another battle, but we're waiting for our scouts to now do something about it.

Battlefield layout: The ground along the riverbank is 10 feet wide.  The river is calm and merely 10 feet across.  Marosharr made it 25 feet from the rope before the arrows came his way.   The two lizardlike riders are on the opposite side of the river, 80 feet away from the rope.  The thing that jumped out of the water and now has only five feet between itself and Marosharr.

sounds like we need to clean the ground. are there trees ore embankments nearby for us to climb?
Title: Re: The War Continues (D&D RP OOC Thread)
Post by: Manawolf on January 06, 2007, 09:39:30 PM
Not really, just muddy ground on this side of the river.  Having a tree next to a wall would make an all too easy way to climb up and compromise the rampart.

DV, I may need a word on your entrance.  Enough time has passed that you managed to take the prisoners to the cathedral, from there, you could pick up your warhorse.  However, trying to travel outside the walls is a suicide mission, you may wish to find your way back to the park, and then if you've got a fly spell handy, that might be enough to get you over.

Sorry for having you sit on the sidelines for so long.

well, that's fine I have one more fly spell left. So it will be 60ftx4 or 240ft per round and and only 540ft away(quicker to get to through the city) so I'll get there in 2 rounds.

On another note I want to talk to you about the rebuild and My Ansteral blade.

After such a successful mission, we got 730 XP from the final enemies, and then 2000 XP for blowing the tunnel and the boats.  This brings many of us to 37317 XP (level 9, ho!), while Zaon and Snuggles characters have 31618 XP, and Marosharr is just a little shy at 34952.

Since we have to create open slots for new people I'm posting our NEW joining requirements.

1. PM Either Me OR Mana OR Both of us telling us you want to join
2. Create a PC using the approved books. Stats are 16,18,14,14,10,10. Current level 9.
3. Get approval from BOTH Me AND Mana. (If your math is good and you are not trying to cheat (everything's legal) I will approve it...This is for various reasons...like people messing up inputs and ending up with 600gp instead of 60gp...Stupid mistakes make things not as much fun  :tired).
4.  Post Sheet in OOC thread.
5. We Will Put You in at the Next Possible Time, if it's not possible at the moment, We Will PM You as Soon as It's Possible.

Only if you decide to use one of the alternate feats or something from in the book.

some new feats, spells, uses for skill points, equipment and prestige classes.

aside from the skill point thing, same old same old
(Essentially, there's mini-feats you can buy for skill points, but you're limited in how many you can have based on character level.)

Most of the books (except for Unearthed Arcana) don't change rules, they just add new optional stuff you can ignore if you don't use stuff from the books.

To start, PH1, PH2, DG1, DG2, MM 1-4, Complete Mage, Complete Warrior, Complete Divine, Complete Arcane, Complete Adventurer, Dracomicon, All of the Races books, Deities and Demigods (PrC's only), Stronghold Builder's handbook, Manual of the planes, Weapons of Legacy (Subject to DM approval), Dungonscape,(Masters of the Wild, Song and Silence, Tome and Blood, Sword and Fist, Defenders of the Faith (Only non-updated material)) Dragonlance Campain Setting (Some feats, all spells, some non-PC material), Book of exalated deeds, Book of vile darkness, libra mortis...I think thats all for me.

You forgot Lords of Madness you got me, along with Cityscape, Heroes of Horror, Heroes of Battle, Fiendish Codexes 1&2, Dragon Magic, Savage Species, and Unearthed Arcana.  I'm afraid the minor 3.0 books (Masters of the Wild, Sword and Fist, Tome and Blood, etc.) are a little too dated for use.  I'm also utilizing the Eberron Campaign Book for feats, monsters and some items (though that special DR some have, such as the deathless, will simply be changed to DR/silver), and also Underdark, for while it was said to be campaign specific, it is a veritable treasure trove of goodness.  The same goes for Frostburn, Sandstorm and Stormwrack, and the Planar Handbook.

Note: I may be introducing some Magical Locations into the campaign, as Complete Scoundrel actually brought up a few that would be most spectacular, in the fact that you can actually get a permanent bonus feat from them.  Of course, you'll have to work for that bonus, alongside finding the location in the first place.

The minor 3.0 books are items...and a few prestige classes only (I like Oozemasters, and Whips need the help...so Lasher and whip dagger are in)

Stronghold Builder is just there as a referance.

Okay folks, we need a new dice roller.  Somehow Tripod has made it so that people can't read other people's rolls, and some can't use the thing altogether.  So, if anyone can find a new online die roller we can use, it would be much appreciated.

looking at various online rollers...

http://www.irony.com/mailroll.html
http://www.pbm.com/dice/
http://www.openroleplaying.org/tools/dieroller/

(emails results to concerned parties... may not be convenient)

They have nothing so nice as having an online database or instant results, mind you.

also:

similar to the one we use now

If we can decide on what roller we're going to use, we should post here so everyone knows to use it.  Since there hasn't been an official post yet, I'm still using the Tripod site roller.   Once you get the blasted thing to load, it searches others' rolls normally.

(Just FYI, I use my character name in all instances of using the dice roller.)

Also, I was looking at your lists.  You guys need to get the Magic Item Compendium so I can use it, since I just bought it. :eager

at 30' off the ground, that makes the range to them 25' from directly beneath, right? (since the characters are firing using bows in their arms, not bows on the ground)

I'd hate to think that Marosharr ran to directly beneath one and then shot it out of the sky.  (OK, I know it would have moved past him before hitting the ground due to momentum, but still...)

However Since we had like 5 feats approved I'll post them.

1)
Honor-Bound
Keeping your word is of great importance to you.
Benefit: You gain a +2 circumstance bonus on any saving throw if failing that saving throw would result in breaking a promise, oath or sworn duty.
Special: If you willingly break a promise or oath, you lose the benefits of this feat until you atone for your actions
2)
Flyby Breath
Prerequisite: Fly speed, Breath Weapon, Flyby Attack
Benefit:When you are flying, you can use your breath weapon as a free action, provided you do nothing else but move this turn. You cannot use Flyby Breath while using the Run action. You do not gain any "extra" uses of your breath Weapon.
Normal: Using a Supernatural ability is a standerd action, which limits you to a single move action in the same turn you use your breath weapon.
3)
Strafing Breath
You can sustain your breath weapon when you use it on the wing, covering a larger ground area in it's effect.
Prerequisite: Fly speed, Breath Weapon, Flyby Attack, Flyby Breath.
Benefit: When you use your breath weapon while flying (either with a single move, using the Flyby Attack feat, or with a double move, using the Flyby Breath feat), you can extend the area covered by you breath weapon on the ground. You can use your breath weapon over a distance up to half your fly speed if you move in a straight line along that distance. To determine the affected area, find the area your breath weapon would normally affect on the ground, then extend that area in a straight line the desired distance. Measure the extended distance from the center of the effect.
For example, a adult blue dragon has a fly speed of 150 feet, and its breath weapon is a 100-foot line of lighting. Normally its breath weapon would cover a single 5-foot-by-5-foot circle on the ground, since a line is 5 feet wide and 5 feet high. Using Strafing Breath it can cover a area 5 feet wide and 75 feet long (half its fly speed).
An old red dragon has a fly speed of 200 feet, and its breath weapon is a 120-foot cone. If it is flying at a altitude of 80 feet, its breath weapon affects a cricle on the ground with a radius of 80 feet. Using Strafing Breath, it can cover an oblong area 80 feet wide and 180 feet long, with both ends shaped like half circles
4)
Spear of Doom
Few can avoid death on your spearpoint when you brace yourself for their attack.
Prerequisite:Base attack bonus +1
Benefit: When you use the Ready action to set a spear or spear like weapon against a charge, you gain a +4 bonus on your attck roll and deal double damage to a charging foe. If you use your readied action to attack a foe who enters a square you threaten without charging, you still gain a +4 bonus on your attack roll, but you do not deal double damage.
Normal: Setting a spear or spearlike weapon against a charge allows  you to deal double damage against a charging foe or attack an approching foe when he enters a square you threaten, but you do not gain any attack bonus for doing so.
Special: This may be selected as a fighter bonus feat. Weapons that may be set in this manner include the spear, longspear, trident, halberd, and dwarven urgrosh.

5)
Tremendous Charge
You know how to use your mount's power to make your lance attacks even more deadly.
Prerequisite:Ride 1 rank, Mounted Combat
Benefit: When you emply a heavy lance in a mounted charge, you can choose to use your mount's Strength score instead of your own for determining your damage bonus. For example, if a human fighter with a Strength score of 14 mounted on a heavy warhorse (Strength 18), you would deal 1d8+4 damage with your lance instead of 1d8+2 damage. You deal double damage for using the lance in a charge, as normal.
After you roll your attack and damage, the lance you use must make a DC 8 Fort save or be shivered into pieces
by the tremenous charge.
Normal:  Lances deal double damage when used in a mounted charge, but you use your own Strength score to determine the damage bonus. Lances do not have a chance to break in normal combat.
Special: This may be selected as a fighter bonus feat. You must be armed with a Heavy Lance or similar weapon. You can use this feat while mounted on a flying creature, such as a dragon.

Is this RP still open to join? If so, what level may I start at, and what's the method of stat generation?

Because... if you had a palce for Black-Stripe here, that would be super.
http://www.rpgwebprofiler.net/view.php?id=50914

Gladiator class. Draconic Template. A lizardfolk roughly the size of a minotaur, born into slavery and forced into gladiatorial matches, finally earning his freedom. Unfortunately, fighting is all he knows how to do... so he's taking his gladiatorial fame and strength into the war... to find a place for himself. If you want the link to Gladiator class, I have it... Lizardfolk is in the Monster Manual 1, and the Draconic template is in Races of the Dragon. His ECL is +2, so even though he's a level 6 Gladiator, he counts as a level 8 character.

Unfortunately, you can only take classes I have from the books I own.  I sent you a PM to start with the matters, but it would go much faster over AIM or if you have a messenger that can work with AIM.

In my free time I'm creating the next segment after the gestalt.... a chance to snag some Leagcy weapons...If you have one your intrested in PM me...maybe it'll fit.

which book(s) should we be looking in for legacy weapons?  You never know, there might be one I feel appropriate to my character... or not  :V

Also, when do you want the gestalt class stuff worked out? I havn't been doing much beyond figuring out how my feats 'n skills would change.

Not for a while, and most weapons of legacy are in the book by the same name (though there is a helm in Dragon Magic).  The gestalt I'll work out with you when the time is right.

Tome of Battle and Weapons of Legacy, (Just as a warning it's not going to happen until AFTER the gestalt rebuild),

Alright, with finals behind me, the RP is back on.  Let's see, I think we still need Malakin, Ket, Eiram, and everyone besides Zaon among the spellcasters.

Me too, considering that there's a local con (only 20-25 miles away :B ) that I visited today, and I need to balance studying (read: finishing assignments procrastinated on) to the time that I want to take off to fisit the con tomorrow.

I'm taking a short break every once in a while since my work is almost all writting in a notebook, and it cramps my ahnd to write for too long.  Unfortunately, not long enough to concentrate on being in character. (Did I mention I have about 260 sentences to do, plus another 60 definitions, plus about 1700 words worth of essays plus 18 quotes plus 6 maps of countries to draw, and it needs to be done by tuesday? Did I mention I was procrastinating? :U )

Sorry for the wait....Mana you'll need to take over....Finals are Killing me....I've gotten ~10 hours of sleep in the past week....and even less the weeks before. (Who assigns four 5-page papers in a row ending on the final, plus a painting or 8-minute musical number two weeks before finals?) (That's just one class!...and I need to study for tests, and pack.....oh, and help others study).....Now for my wonderful hour of sleep!

Okay, I'm gonna take a head count on who is still willing to proceed with this RP?

I would also like to say I have added Dungeonscape, Cityscape, Complete Champion and weapons of legacy to my library, and the stratotum is a viable class to take at this point.

I guess I can't blame you.  This thing has been experiencing setbacks.  I really hope to amend that once DV gets back.
