"snrsnerkhaaahaahaaaHAAAAHAA!!"
Perfect. Absolutely perfect.
Oh, cute fishy fish.
I wonder if a design like that could work as a real character design.
Also, does this make Aliyka the player?
The fish looks high...I like it. :giggle
BURN THEM!
Downsides to casting times.
Hey, it's Surprise Fish!
(If anyone actually GETS this reference, you will get a 100 cookies freshly baked)
Actually if you spend some time fishing in the far north you can get some pretty freaky fish.
Aw, but in-battle conversations are the best conversations!
There's a lot to be said for quick or preloaded spells, even if their potency might be less than normal. I've seen or heard of cases where a plethora of faster cantrips were used to spoil a spellcaster's slower spells, to the point that he was useless in the fight.
BTW, the comments so far seem to miss the other fish already on his shoulder.

Yeah, but even the quicker spells take SOME time to cast, which can be difficult in a full on grapple with three different sea creatures. The best idea is not to get into that position in the first place.
"You have been attacked by a cracked out fish."
A. Run! (Little pansie...)
B. Smack it with my staff. (You silly Mage you)
C. Let it chomp your head then set them both aflame... (It's the manly/insane/stupid thing to do, so do it!)
Well the upside to option C is that you have something to eat afterward. :B
Option B, since running away isn't an option once it's latched on.

Yes, I suppose it's a bad time for that question...
Silly Merlitz.. That's why spellcasters should never go adventuring alone. Always have someone to take the hits for you, and then nuke your foe from the safe distance. :P

Either his primary casting stat is really low, he didn't take the best spell foci (resulting in low DCs), or he has a bad spell selection, but I don't always find that to be true. He probably didn't take Wail of the Banshee, confusion, fear, gust of wind, or some sort of effective crowd control spell. That, or his DCs are too low to use to great effect.
Though I certainly didn't expect the whole 'fish eating cat', bit... hmm, I guess it's not implausible considering ferrets chase cats in this world...
Hmm... some sort of personal protection spell cast beforehand would have been a good idea. Something to enchant his staff to make it do actual noticeable damage would also have been recommended.
I would just like to make an appeal to sanity and hope that this discussion turns to Merlitz and his dating and not into a quasi D&D discussion.
That being said, I hope Merlitz learned his lesson of not dating things he dug up out of an abandoned mansion anymore.

True. In some ways it's probably good she's not seeing this :<
In other ways, I've just been through the rant, and the idea of having a "Prominent 'Cubi Clans" arc is one I can only encourage. But since she's not reading it, I'm not sure how to offer same to her :rolleyes

Nah, I was referring to the

Even though the fish are green...
All I can think of is "Red snapper! Very tasty!". :B
Don't eat the green ones. Not ripe yet.
Anyways, I didn't mean for it to turn into a D&D discussion, I was just making a comment. My bad.
He's a kitty, right?
Fishy eating cat.
Irony.
If NOT a kitty, Slowtini fails.
Where is Alyika? Obviously, Alyika is the one asking the question. She can't *fight* the fish, after all... ohnoz, 2/100 hearts! So much for Alyika/Merlitz action.
(And I'd guess Merlitz is having trouble 'cause the fish are highly resistant to fire from being so damp. Plus they probably stayed underwater until the final leap-attack.)

Yep, kitty. BIG kitty, but he's a kitty nonetheless.
I bawled with laughter upon seeing that, it was a nice way of showing that Merlitz hasn't dropped off the face of the earth as it were, just isn't up to answering questions about his dating practices. As to the D&D-like nature of probable conversation, well considering the D&D nature of the character that seems somewhat hard to avoid, right?

I'd love to see a Cubi Clan mini-arc as well, but don't overwork yourself Amber.
Best Perfect Date yet. Those little fish latched onto Merlitz's body are hilarious, and Merlitz's expression and dialogue in the first panel is even more so.
I love this mini-arc c:
everyone is concentrating on the fish, nobody is upset tentacle rape failed to happen?

Monk/Sorc isn't that great. Remember, thou shalt not sacrifice caster levels. You could go straight Psychic Warrior or Duskblade though. Or even straight Wiz or Sorc and cast Transformation. I've seen a Nomad/Fighter/Slayer gish as well.
Or play Shadowrun, where the mage has a gun. Squeezing the trigger is faster then any spell.
Stop with the D&D discussions, you all fail because 4E is out and you are all taking 3E.
Merl really needs a warrior companion, mages as soloists don't work in the adventuring area too well. At least I don't think they would.
I really wish people would leave the cubi bandwagon... it broke down several miles back when the ego loads over taxed its drivetrain.

A warrior companion would certainly help him out in spots like the one he's in, but I don't think Aliyka quite cuts it so he probably shouldn't ask her. Although if he was to do the battle mage gig he may find himself in much less trouble since battle mages are (supposed) to be proficient in both the ways of melee and magic. I won't comment on the D&D thing since I've never played it.
Well, for the discussion of the comic, it's okay. But for the D&D class discussion...
:objection
Okay, I admit it, I've just been dying to use that one.
Hmm... Everyone has clearly missed talking about this point:
Being an adventurer makes it a little difficult to hold down a relationship sometimes. His last girlfriend was from his last adventure.
So even if he wanted to go out with someone they might not want him just because of the whole high probability of dieing next time.
Along with being hilarious this one seems to state it's easier to date your work when your an adventurer, if for no other reason, for the help.
You knoooow, regarding the whole fish nomming on cat thing... perhaps they're dogfish. >:3

Last I saw, he was travelling with Aliyka, and though she's a pacifist, she's well capable of handling herself (remember the structural damage she helped cause? (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_912.php)).
