I love the way Kria describes Dan.  "Incubus level hot."

Happy Anniversary Amber.

And Happy Birthday to Me. :mowhappy

HBD Anders W.

I am not sure we have every seen Lorenda look so mad before, or Kira look so accepting and motherly as in the last panel(and amber again amazes me with how she can portray such starkly different emotions in the same comic!).

Oh, and most importantly of all...Happy Anniversary Amber!   :boogie

1.) Happy anniversary, Amber.

2.) Oh, that's gotta hurt.  The ``I am contractually obligated to love you'' bit?  Just a little bit above ``I tolerate you,'' and who wants to see that on a greeting card(*)?

3.) Lorenda's expression in the last panel?  Rembrandt wishes he could do so well.

(*) Besides me, obviously...

Too funny.   :mowtongue

One of my friends mothers was like that.

Poor Dan is politely staying far out of that one.

Happy Anniversary Amber!

Happy anniversary Amber, and a happy birthday to AndersW as well. Enjoy your break, Amber!

"Do you have the gay?" just sounds old-fashioned. Also slightly ironic considering who Lorenda is living with...

And poor Dan there all alone in the back... this must be a little awkward. Meanwhile, Aliph is sitting in the afterlife wondering "What is taking that girl so long?" And how can someone that frustrated look that cute?

So observant, and yet so dense. I just can't wait to see her reaction when she finds out about who he's related to. ...assuming that it would mean anything to her. DP's reaction to that name might be on a personal level, rather than something that effects his whole family.

{Edit} Oh, and happy anniversary Amber. Should have mentioned that the first time around.  :moogle :doh

Well, Kria is like 400something, so it would stand to reason that her diction is a tad archiac........ Still, if you correlate with the Perfect date Arc, I wonder how Kria would take it if Lorenda uttered a preference for stockier, more muscular guys.

Oh, and before I wander off, Happy Anniversary Amber!

Is it possible to feel Lorenda's frustration concerning the conversation from right behind the screen?  'Cause her expression is just that good.  Her eye looks like it's about to pop out its socket.

Awesome work. XD

Second panel is again a wonderful example of just too many teeth!
On the left too many teeth for something that happy, on the right too many teeth and something angry.

It would be very bad to be there right now, or queerly enough it might be very good.  :,

Side note, MAD COW!

Embarrassing parent- nothing new under the sun. Though Kria(NOTE: It's KRIA not KIRA) takes it to a whole new level. Poor Lorenda! and poor Dan for that matter- wondering whether he should stay quiet while the family quarrel stops or run away before being raped by Kria!

Oh dear, oh dear.  I'm a little surprised she hasn't figured that he might be an incubus.  I now have to wonder what she thought about Abel back in the woods when she ran into him as an adult.  And then we have Dan.  Fa'Lina told him that people would suddenly find him attractive... I can just imagine him having another one of his "OMG I'm a monster" moments.

Anyway, as others have said, happy anniversary, Amber and Mason!

He had head-wings, then. Dan has his hidden.

... which, of course, gives him somewhat of an edge in battle, although not as much as he might like, since, as we've previously discussed, he doesn't have the training to fully use that advantage. Still, momentary surprise at the right time might be useful...

True.  Actually, it's just occurred to me that given the rarity of the race, "Incubus-level hot" might possibly be a common expression or saying, rather than literally her opinion.

Dunno.  I don't think 'Cubi exactly have a lock on the things, if that's what you mean.  Though the clan mark would be a bit of a giveaway.  Even more so if she recognises it.

"Incubus level hot" so ironic because he is an incubus.

I can imagine it now... Dan TKOed and finds himself tied up in bed (in Jyrras house none the less) as Lorenda walks in wearing very revealing cloths.  45 minutes later Jyrras finds Dan and Lorenda doing things only a couple should do.

Arggh, now I've got this horrible advertising jingle stuck in my head "Have you had the gay TODAY?!!" Just thought I'd share.

Kria as a demon mom would naturally be required to lay down epic levels of embarrassment and humiliation on her offspring -- nothing less would do. At least Lorenda can't claim that her Mom hates all her friends.  :)

Actually, I've always been half wondering how apparant it is if someone is a 'cubi or not. In specific, I was always interested how Matilda in
comic 407 (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_407.php) managed to figure out Dan's status without him doing anything or talking, and with the patch hiding his second set of wings. What further interested me is that Shanna, a dragon, did not seem to be able to immediately tell, although perhaps that was due to his 'cubi-ness not sprouting out at that time. (I bring this up because of the whole, "Dragons would kill Dan on sight except Pyroduck) And I'm thinking of other incidents too. Moira (Jyras's mother) refers to Dan as a creature, while Jyras refers to him as a being (Again, before it's obviously apparant that he's a cubi, before the headwings sprout.) So, I guess I'm wondering ,aside from the headwings, are there any traits that proclaim to anyone who knows what to look for "I am a 'cubi"?

I figure they have a particular aura or something that can be sensed magically.  Presumably it would also be possible to mask such a thing if you know what you're doing.

QuoteWhat further interested me is that Shanna, a dragon, did not seem to be able to immediately tell, although perhaps that was due to his 'cubi-ness not sprouting out at that time. (I bring this up because of the whole, "Dragons would kill Dan on sight except Pyroduck)
Specifically they hate Dan's clan.  My guess is that unless she's about the same age as Dan, she probably knew what he was but not that he was a Cyra Clan incubus.  Either that, or she just didn't care about the conflict.

QuoteAnd I'm thinking of other incidents too. He's got feathery wings, and that narrows it down quite a bit.  He's not avian so he's not a phoenix, and he doesn't look like a gryphon.  Offhand that leaves either Angel or 'Cubi ancestry.  My guess is that Moira figured he was something strange, but not exactly what.

Did Kria and Lorenda go to a fur stylist or something? In the current strips, they both have fluffy tufts around their wrists (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_945.php) while back in Disarray, Dischord, and Bubblegum (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_334.php) the tufts were barely noticeable.

If you dislike the Demon race as a whole, then why not just say so. You say they all act like douche-bags in general, then what of Aliph or Lorenda?

Aliph might be evil but we've never really seen him act the part, 'cept for maybe for destroying Hannah. But if he wants to erase one of his past mistakes, that is something he wants to do, not something evil. And sure he's trying to revive the Dark God, but hes not done anything that would really count as being evil as far as we've seen... well not recently anyway. He doesn't even seem to want to fight to do it, or have a good fight in general, as most Demons are apparently prone to. But at least he isn't a cliche villain.

An now onto Lorenda. Sure she may only be half demon, but she's still a demon. She may not have the aggressive tendencies of her mother, and may not act like a Demon at all, but she is one, if only half. And she's never acted like a "douche-bag" as you put, or anything less or worse. She's pretty much the opposite of a demon, even if it's because of her being side.

Sure Demons like fighting and proving how strong they are, but that's just the way they are. You don't like the whole race because of this, so you are a racist... racist.

The way I see it, Lorenda is a half-blood, so she doesn't count, and Aliph 's died enough so that he's obviously weaker.

Sure Demons like fighting and proving how strong they are, but that's just the way they are. You don't like the whole race because of this, so you are a racist, enough said... racist.

Oh, and you were doing so well up to that point.

No Personal Attacks.

Consider this a very pointed hint.

Just had a thought. I wonder if Lorenda's anger will have any further effect on her wings or any other part of her demon heritage? Perhaps pop a little more wing?

Anyone else thinks Dan is getting a "Hot anime guy" syndrome? He's already had Jyrras, Matilda and apparently Regina having a crush on him and now Kria. That's enough for reaching OOT Link's level, just a little further to reach Ranma's level

Well, Hanna thought Dan was an angel here (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_884.php), which makes me think that Shanna might not have known about it either, granted I would assume that dragons are a good deal more magically powerful than undead. And of course, if Shanna did notice (and care, as she was in a fight with Anna when Hanna made the remark about Dan being an angel), she would have had plenty of time to eviscerate him here (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_886.php). Of course, it's entirely plausable that being in the situation they were in, they had more things to be concerned about than suspect Dan of being an incubus. Either that, or amazons just work differently, it's not impossible I suppose.

Actually, Amber has stated on a few occasions that many races have both good and bad individuals:  including cubi (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_524.php) and blue-volcano mythos (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_641.php).  And even "evil" characters like Kria have been shown to have good points.  Since the individuals in this universe don't seem to be bound by their race, it seems pointless to like or hate anyone because of their race.  We have seen good creatures and some bad beings.

The Redwall series, on the other hand, did seem to have the behavior of the characters controlled by their race.  The mice and squirrels were always good, while the rats, ferrets, and stoats were always bad.  In that series, it would be reasonable to be distrustful of somebody because of their race, but not in Amber's universe.

And that is part of the reason why I love DMFA.

That's ok, I've been building up an immunity or at least tolerance to the deadly lutefisk toxicity (http://www.davethefox.com/words/0112lutefisk.htm), so I can keep some of that around in case the Nascar shield fails.

Hmmm...

If we go way back to the end of the what makes a comic great arch, neither Lorenda(#188) (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_188.php) nor Kria(#193) (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_193.php) seemed to have the tufts around their wrists.  Note that Kria has changed a lot since then as well.

Toward the end of the next arch was, I think, the first time they both (#229) (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_229.php) had wrist tufts and for the next few hundred strips they seemed to vary in size and appearance even from comic(#323) (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_323.php) to comic(#324) (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_324.php) though they seemed to be smaller than they currently are.

In #268 (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_268.php) Lorenda has a rather similar hand pose to the latest comic(#945) (http://www.missmab.com/index.php) for easy comparison.  I would say the tufts are currently about twice the size they were then, the way the ears and hair are drawn has also changed(she may also have gone up a bust size...).

Though in the latest comic Lorenda is very frustrated/angry and her appearance has been morphed very slightly because of this(the single errant hair on the top of her head, the pointy/slanted eyes, the ears and wrist tufts being extra spiky, the "blush" look, and the teeth...) in addition to the stylistic/character drift affects comparison.

Somewhere a little before the middle of the spy spoof arch for Lorenda(#444) (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_444.php) and the end of the same arch for Kria(#478) (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_478.php) they seemed to have reach about the current level.  Why am I perpetually wanting to spell her name Kira....

So I don't think they are much different then they have been for the last five hundred or so comics.

I think this is clearly a sign that there Furrae is flooded with radiation and everything eventually mutates into some sort of monster.  We've got Earzilla, Boobzilla, and now Tuftzilla.

Which is at least better than Tuftezilla.  (Run!  He's destroying all the world's Powerpoint Slides!)

And sure he's trying to revive the Dark God, but hes not done anything that would really count as being evil as far as we've seen...

Uh... what? He was planning to resurrect the dark god by sacrificing multiple innocents, specifically Mab and the queen. He was going to use their souls as spell components. That's pretty evil.

I mean, seriously, if kidnapping and murdering innocent people doesn't qualify as evil, what does?

Well, to interject some dull, boring sanity, you could point out several reasons that Kria only has one kid. She simply might not be very fertile, especially after whatever it was she took in that flashback that she remembered when buying Lorenda some clothes. She also might not "finish" these unions. She was hitting on Jyras, but seems to have forgotten about him about 15 strips later, and Lorenda notices that's a fairly common occurance.

Lastly, remember how Amber didn't tell us the relation between DP and Kria in the Cast pages until quite recently. It's certainly possible that she's had other children who might or might not show up later.

(1) Fanservice
(2) Gross generalizations
(3) Character death
(4) Baby
(5) Use of spirits in comics
(6) Character(s) being gay
(7) Gaming angle
(8) Introducing new characters
(9) Up the cute factor
(10) Shonen Ai

I think gross generalizations, gaming angle, baby and spirits haven't happened.
Though, some of the in-comic rants by Amber might count as generalizations, and there have been some passing references to games in the comic.
