I was gonna wait until next week to post this, but I realized I'll be out of town, so I'm gonna do it now.

It's that time of year again! For the past three years I've hosted a Secret Santa, and because I am a glutton for punishment, I decided to do it again this year. Yay!

This is how this works. This is a Secret Santa. If you don't know how this works, you basically pick a name out of a hat, and you get a present for whoever you picked. That person doesn't know you have them until the day they get their gift, and likewise you don't know who has you. This is just like that only art-related.
Comment, note or e-mail me saying you want to join and add a picture or a detailed description of the character you want drawn. If you want anything specific for your character to be doing, be sure to include it. On the 19th of November, I'll note you/e-mail you/IM you who you have, along with their reference pic, and you draw them. On Christmas, I'll post all the pics up. Fun, huh?
This is pretty much an idea to get you to draw for people you either don't know or wouldn't think to draw gift art for, and for you to receive art from people you wouldn't expect.

The Rules-
Anyone can join, regardless of art skill. All I ask is that you put your effort into the piece.
Remember, this is about GIVING not receiving. Please join because you want to do art for others, not because you want art done for you.
Please, once you know who you're drawing for, make sure they don't find out. That'll ruin the surprise.
If you want your gift to be kept under a certain rating, or include/exclude a certain theme, please let me know.
If you participated last year and DID NOT do your SS gift pic, then you CANNOT join in this years round. I'm sorry, but that's just how it's gonna be this year. HOWEVER, if you get your pic from last year into me before the sign-up deadline(the 8th), then you can participate in this years Secret Santa.

Deadlines-
You have until the 8th of November to join, and the 25th of December to submit your gift. However, I understand that people get busy during this time, and if you can't make the deadline, no problem. Just be sure to let me know and give me a guess of when you'll think it'll be done.

If you finish ahead of time, feel free to send me the pic if you want me to host it. Otherwise, just post the finished work on Christmas. Don't post it before then, to make sure your secret santa doesn't see it. :V
I will create a livejournal entry for all the finished Secret Santa pics, so everyone can see the pics and leave a comment.

I would guess so, however bear in mind that many of the artists won't supply art over a certain rating. So chances are you'll be sadly disappointed...

This is tempting.  I didn't even get my Secret Santa pic a couple years ago, not to mention I still can't get Photobucket to work for me short of deciding to reformat.

But I did enjoy drawing, and since I'm getting better...sure, sign me up too. ^^

Considering the amount of time and effort it takes to put together something like this, I'd much rather keep it to once a year. I like holding it on Christmas, considering the spirit of the season. If you guys wish to hold one every couple of months, go right ahead. This is when I'm doing it, and I'm not changing it.
To be honest, I have put forth a lot of effort the past few years to be as accommodating as I possibly can to each individual, and I've pretty much learned I can't make everyone happy. The whole "I don't like its association with Christmas" is a new one on me, and makes me kind of cranky.
The whole point of this is to draw something for someone else. If you can't get past the fact it's held on during the Christmas holiday, then quite frankly, that's your problem.

_I_ appreciate the effort you've gone to, Z. Even if I don't join in (usually because I lack the time to draw anything _I_ feel is worthy of some of the amazing stuff you get out of it) I still watch, and it amazes me just how much hard work you put into this every year.

Oh, and as for the "every couple of months", I think that was a suggestion that someone else taking the intervening ones. At least, I read it so - you've already said one per year is (more than) enough...

Thanks, guys. I didn't mean to make it sound like I felt unappreciated. I know people do appreciate me hosting this, and even if no one ever said so, I'd still host it. It's very much a labor of love for me. For all the complaining I do, I really am proud of the end result. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered after the first year. :V

You can sign me up. However, I do have conditions. I do not do nudity, sexual content or violent behaviour. I also have a physical limitation so if the coloring seems off to you understand it's a matter of perception.

- For the person who gets me:

I believe that a person does better when they don't have a specific thing they must draw. I enjoy fantasy in all of it's forms (not sci fi ;) ). So, feel free to draw what you feel comfortable drawing and do what you feel like to it. I do not want sexual content, nudity or violent content. Thanks...

- I'm glad there is something like this out there I can update my portfolio and do something nice for someone.

Okay, I'm up for it. I've proven to myself that when I make the effort, I can make a good piece. I really hope I can produce something that the other person will love and appreciate, so I really hope I can get a good idea  of what they like.

PS. As for myself... honestly I'm relaxed. Don't mind whether I get anything. I've been meaning to change my fursona but truthfully, I draw a blank whenever I try to figure out what the new design should be. I always thought my fursona should be a representation of my inner confidence; which, in retrospect, is probably telling as to why I can't come up with anything.

It's a good reason to coax myself into drawing something again.

Name: Kira
Species: Feline
Height: 5'9"

She has an athletic build. Not beefy, just well toned. Waist is pinched slightly, hips are flared in a way that gives her a slight hourglass figure. Fur color is white with two parallel, dark red stripes starting at her right shoulder and going across her upper body to her left hip and wrapping around her left leg, similar to a candy cane. Fur is short. Hair or head fur is silver and reaches down to her waist. Ears are like a common housecat's. Her eyes a bright red. Has a pair of white feathered wings growing out from the shoulder blades. Her tail is long and slender.

Use your imagination for pose and clothing, though I would like to see her in something that shows her body off a bit if at all possible. Please no violence or adult content. However, I don't mind tasteful nudity. I'm trying not to sound picky, just giving the artist options.

I can't wait to see who I get to draw!

Ooh, I've been looking forward to this...count me in! ^_^ I'm not a spectacular artist, but sometimes I surprise myself, and I've got paper big enough to work with properly.



My character (not my fursona, as I don't have one, but a character from my NaNo last year that I'm rather fond of) is a female dragon. Samta is young, not more than five years old, so she's still small, maybe the size of a black lab, not counting her tail, which is at least as long as her body; I always imagined her as a kind of kelly green. Her horns are only just starting to come in and she hasn't developed back spines yet, but there is a dark ridge running from the base of her skull to the tip of her tail along her back.

I have participated twice before and I thought you knew by now that I appreciate the effort you're putting into this, and I like the idea of exchanging gifts like this. It's just the fact that it's related to Christmas that I don't like, but I can put that aside again as I have done twice before, and I may host another gift exchange at some other time.

My fursona can be found in my devart account (ladyphenyx.deviantart.com). The latest image is the "Viva la Radio" one in my (current) avatar. (Full body shot is at devart.) She has gold-brown eyes, which is about the only thing you can't see in the picture.

Well I'm not to good at drawing, but it seems like fun, I've never tried drawing anything with fur before. As for my charachter, I don't Currently have a picture of her, so Syxal (I love the name) Has black hair over one eye, and the other eye is grey. She's also blind so the other eye shows no emotion whatsoever. She wears a black cloak.

I won't do anthing higher than PG-13 though and I would prefer that the picture being done is PG-13 as well.

As for my character, his name is Woeset and he has long blond hair about two or three inches past the shoulders and orange eyes. I'm pretty used to being mistaken for a guy, not so much now, but since I have a boys name and when I was younger I would wear boys cloths a lot, I would have to tell people when I met them

I once started reading them at like 10:30, didn't stop reading till 2 AM. Did not sleep well at all that night. Unless that's not where you got that particular image from, in which case I'm just being silly and should stop typing.

Um... Zina, I'll PM you with a link to some pictures of my fursona soon, hopefully... I need to add my new glasses to them to make them a little more accurate. And I'll say it in the PM, but I'm okay with most scenery or holiday setup for the picture, but I don't want anything higher than PG-13 or so, and I won't do anything higher than that as well. The SS isn't forum only, there are also people from FA and DA going into the pot, most likely some never even heard about these forums.

I don't ever recall having a rule like that. Like Gorn said, this isn't on the forum only, and people I have never seen before have signed up on DA and FA, so I don't think I would make an exception for the forum.

It was fun doing this last year so sign me up.

A little about Kim, sort of a free spirit and at times a little naive (not stupid just out of the loop) she is also not much into sports. Her hobbies include repairing or inventing things, hang gliding, and star gazing. She is also the ship's mechanic aboard the Air pirate ship "The Azure Moon".

Ooh, how time flies, I can feel that artistic twinge in my fingers now so I'll enter the overcrowded ring of doom once again.

Ideas to draw.
- For those wanting more of a set description, how about a white tiger character, animal, or anthro (female pref) drawer's choice. (If the drawer is finding black & white art tricky or just loves to colour standard orange-black is super as well). It's a tiger, so the typical colouring is white (or orange) with black stripes, black nose, gold/brown eyes. For anthro hair, i would probably go with some typical long hair style, not sure what colour goes with black/white other than more black or white, and red hair always goes well with orange-black tigers. There is no set references, or character specifics, so feel free to let your imagination be your guide, or choose whatever is 'typical' in your mind.
- For those wanting to stretch their artistic side, wolves, foxes, tigers, dragons. These are a few of my favourite things ;)

Nah, Zina can just go to random.org. It has a list randomiser ( http://random.org/lists/ ) so all she has to do is put the list into the form, press a button to randomise it, then just go through the original and randomised list, pairing them off in order (assuming the randomised list doesn't leave any names in the same position).

Or, she can ask me, and I go and write some code last week to do the same thing, along with providing links to contact details and references, keeping track of who's responded, who's not supplied descriptions, and all the other interesting details.

Zina, I aplogise for not doing this before, but there's something I'd like to add to my ref sheet. I previously said:

No, of course not. It's restricted to not matching the same user to themselves.

Other than that, it depends on the output of rand() under php on the server in question, which I consider to be "random enough for my purposes."

Sooooo my computer is awesome and decided to get a virus last night. Everything is cool now, but it stopped me from assigning the last bunch of Secret Santas. I have to go attend a conference(boooo) for two days, but I'll be back by Monday night/Tuesday morning to hand out the last remaining bunch. Sit tight!

In light of the extremely late start this year(Seriously guys, I AM SO SORRY. It felt like one thing after another kept happening and sometime around two weeks ago, I sort of just...stopped functioning for a bit there) the new deadline is going to be JANUARY 23.
Sorry if this is inconvenient for anyone. If you've already finished your pic, and don't want to wait that long, feel free to send it to me and I'll make sure your  Secret Santa gets it.

It is actually quite convenient for me, for about the last week ive been netless and now i am both netless and computerless (posting on a library computer so you know) and thus i was going to say heads up as it may be a while until i can submit.

Awesome going Zina, it's great to see the list and all the diverse pieces of artwork.
I did mine a while back under the panic of being late, but I'm sorta happy at how it turned out and I got my first fave from the guy who it is of. So that's really cool!
The guy I did it for doesn't seem to have done his SS though and Keaton didn't get hers. Pity.
Amber seems to have got an awesome one though, of Mikelangelo (hur, I'm so witty).

(I had this crazy idea - like, over a year ago - but was too lazy to act it out back then. It went something like:

A year went by and again I was reminded of my idea. This time I took the time and was able to look up the contact info of most of the participants of Zina's Secret Santa. I asked around and actually got a few responses. )

Some of them, like Mystiqe and Roya seem to have real life issues, so their disappearances aren't all that surprising.
