I've been batting around the idea of starting up a game, something fun, but not overly dramatic. Casual, I guess is a good way to put it. I'll cover the basics here, and, if anyone is interested, feel free to sign-up.
Otherwise, well, we can just set it adrift in the ether.
Setting: What once was a quiet little town is now the staging ground for an army of good versus evil, light versus dark, creamy versus crunchy. It started with an influx of goblins, kobolds, the occasional ogre -- creatures not normally seen in this quiet part of the countryside. But the tide of beasts only became worse, as the undead, dragons... even demons, came forth to terrorize the lands.
The townsfolk, fearful of the evil creatures that have become a constant part of their lives, have sent out requests for any and all heroes to come and lend them aid. Although the money isn't great, it is a good cause, and there is always the promise of a grand adventure.
Besides, you never know, there could be a greater threat lurking in the distance. Whatever has called forth these beasts could be just a pawn controlled by an even greater evil. Only investigation will show.
Characters: This is an open RP. Any character types, styles, etc are welcome. Bear in mind that much of the countryside is humanoid (humans, elves, dwarves, etc), so while any character can be played, not all will be as welcome.
If you're playing, post a short character bio here, following these guidelines (yes, you can use this as a template):
Backstory: Nothing more than a couple of paragraphs, telling what you've done, why you've accepted this assignment. You don't need to share details you want to keep secret. This is basically what you'd tell any of the people that are out adventuring with you.
Race: Pick to your heart's desire. Human, zombie, weregerbil...
Powers: Desired powers and abilities (like control over a particular element), as well as the ability to speak to animals, flight, fighting style, preferred weapons, etc.
Appearance: Your looks and styles.
Other Notes: Anything else you feel is noteworthy.
Final Notes: There will be a game system running underneath this game, something of my devising. It's nothing complicated, but, if at any time you want to do something and I say you can't, or there's some reason why you failed at doing it, you may ask for the reasons why, and I will be able to tell you, with detail, why such and such didn't work.
Also, God-Modding is not tolerated.
Once we have some people join in, well then, I'll get in touch with each of you by PM to set up any details, ask any questions, and finalize all the characters. I'd like to get this thing up and running in the next couple of weeks if possible.
Characters Currently in the RP:
Name: Tarson Hunter
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Species: Half-Golem
Appearance: Stands stands about 6'6". Has a large powerful built (Solid build). His hair is auburn, shoulder length and is normally tied back into a ponytail. He also has a goatee. His right arm seems to have been taken from a stone golem as well as his right eye socket. His right eye is all black with a small red pupil, his left eye is hazel. He normally wears a black hooded sweatshirt, dark cargo pants with combat boots. Some times he wears a black muscle shirt instead of the sweatshirt. When he wears the muscle shirt it is clear to see that his whole right arm are is from a stone golem from the shoulder down. He has scars all over his chest and one scar on his face that goes from his forehead to his jaw on the left side of his face.
Personality: He's not very talkative. If someone talks with him he will carry on a conversation but he doesn't tend to start any himself. He tends to keep to himself on most everything. In a fight he will back the people he is with to his death. It takes him awhile to find someone trust worthy enough for him to call them friends.
History: Tarson was born to fairly well off parents in a small town. His father ran a smithy there. The older he got the more he worked with his father. His father's business had them going to a near by large city alot. One day his father and him where in the city delievering weapons and armor, while there he meant a girl. They started seeing each other whenever they could, usually she would sneak out to meet him somewhere. Once her father found out about it and forbid her to see Volt any more, it seems her parents where wealthy people in the city. When she said no, her father paid some men to take out Tarson. The men went too far and killed Tarson's mother and father, while he was out at the local Martial Arts school.
Tarson went to the city to confront the girl's father and let her know that her father had his parents killed, plus tried to kill him.Only when he got there he found that the girl was sent to another part of the city with her new husband and the men that had burned his house down where there waiting for him along with the girl's father. While confronting the father the men jumped him. The next thing he knew he was on the verge of death in the gutters. He wouldn't have survived if a man where not passing by and decided he could use Tarson for experiments. So the man had him taken to his lab. When Tarson awoke he was barely human. It seems his body and bones where strengthened through some form of spell or ritual. His strength was inhanced aswell. His right arm, shoulder and eye where completely replaced with parts from a stone golem. Atleast that's what he thought because the stone felt like living tissue to him. The stone arm had ruines carved into it. The ruines seemed to give him the ability to charge his right arm with electricity. He ended up haveing to work for the man until his debt was paid back, although he didn't understand what the debt was. He became the man's attack dog, with his martial arts skills and new enchanced body he was good at his job. Tarson soon wished that he was left to die though, the girl he loved was married to another man, he's never see her again and he would never get revenge for his parents death. This all happened to him around the age of 17. He served the man for 7 years until the man was killed in while Tarson was off on a mission. While many of the others that worked for the man faught for control he simpley walked away and became a drifter. Going where ever the winds took him. That's how he ended up in the small town and decided he could used his abilities to their advantage.
Weapons: His hands and feet. Plus the power of his arm. He carries a bastard sword on his back, it's all he has left of his father. He is skilled with it but not many other weapons.
Abilities: He can charge his right and with electricity and hit opponents with it. He either chooses to charge his opponent and hit them in the chest with his charged hand (Shush I know what it sounds like) or he can send electrical charges through the ground by driving his hand into the ground. He can do this with up to five opponents. The max distance of this ability is 100 yards.
Name: BRT-75
aka: Tank
Race: Golem (Warforged)
Class: Fighter/WF Juggernaut
Gender: N/A (male personality)
Age: 5 years
Height: 10 ft (not counting spikes)
Weight: 1,140 lbs (not counting oversized greathammer)
Appearance: BRT is a giant. With his height, he towers over pretty much anything else around. He actually often even has trouble getting into any building; he has to squat down and squeeze through. For some reason, most doorways are a little bit wider after he goes through them...He appears very heavily armored and very finely crafted, and has armor spikes all over himself. His armor is almost completely black. He seems to have been crafted with rough features, but his plating is still smooth. His fists are somewhat oversized (relative to the rest of him). His eyes glow red.
Personality/Demeanor: BRT is a rather reserved individual. He speaks in a gruff, deep bass voice. He seems uncaring about anything around him, just as long as he gets to crush something with his greathammer. His idea of subtle is "place underneath foot and step". He isn't particularly bright, but not a total thickhead; he can carry on a conversation, but use big words and he's liable to grab the speaker's throat and tell them to speak simpler or stop talking (not really). He has a (sometimes annoying, sometimes very problematic) tendency to smash first and ask questions never. He also doesn't give a flying homunculus what anyone calls him, even Clunky McRustbutt. Just as long as it's clear who's talking to whom, he's fine. Give him whatever name you desire. (Seriously, call him something simple and appropriate, like Smash, or Breaker) He nearly always listens to DFX, but if you give him a command that involves him smashing something, or some other simple task, he's liable to listen unless DFX says otherwise.
History: BRT was one of many experiments by a wizard who specialized in constructs. The wizard sought to make his constructs more alive, and experiment number BRT-75 was one of his early successes (though the wizard would say he failed a little in the brains department), even though BRT is not as 'alive' as subsequent creations. From then on, BRT basically worked guard duty and manual labor. However, after a couple of years, a neighboring village found out about these experiments, and became very afraid as they believed the wizard was creating terrible abominations. In a massive angry mob, they stormed the wizard's enclave and forge, destroying all research, prototypes, and everything else the wizard had crated. They even killed the wizard and razed his entire estate. Only BRT and another experiment numbered DFX-28 managed to escape, the only surviving relics of that wizard. They now aimlessly wander the countryside, and find it difficult to approach any village, as they are completely unknown and foreign, thus most people generally react with outright hostility toward them.
Abilities/Combat: BRT always has a monstrous greathammer with him, which he uses liberally in combat (and for many other purposes besides, even if it's not correct). It's big enough that he can turn a human, quite literally, into a pancake with one well-placed overhead blow (it's basically little more than a massive, thick steel cylinder attached to a long and likewise thick steel pole). His fighting style consists of simply starting out by doing a full-blown charge against an enemy to ram them, and then smashing anything he can reach with his greathammer. Anyone who gets really close to him may risk getting impaled on his armor spikes f they aren't careful. His massive size and weight is enough to overcome nearly any physical obstacle. Need a door busted down? Right here. A boulder in your way? Look no further. That huge monster pestering you? Not another word.
Strengths: BRT, obviously, is very strong. He can lift massive loads, and crush most things smaller than him (which is most things) His strength allows him to wield his greathammer, if not with ease, than with power. His outer 'shell', so to speak, is crafted from adamantine, giving him great toughness and ability to withstand punishment. If he manages to gain speed with a bull-rush charge, there really isn't much that will still be standing; usually he will just go right through. Basically, with his strength, his armor, and his greathammer, he is a veritable tank. And, being a living construct, he has infinite stamina, and will never tire or become fatigued.
Weaknesses: For all his strength and armor, BRT is one slow-ass bastard. He has difficulty gaining any speed or momentum, and when he does, though he becomes near-unstoppable, he can't change course worth shit. All someone has to do is sidestep, and BRT will just keep going, his own momentum carrying him forward. It may even be possible to trip him, if you've got something solid enough. Likewise, while not much can survive being crushed by his greathammer, that's not to say he hits anything all the time. It takes a few seconds to raise it up for a blow, which usually give most things time to scurry out of range. Speaking of which, he has absolutely no ranged attacks. Ok, so he might be able to chuck a rock or something, but his aim probably isn't too good. While he can survive egregious amounts of physical punishment, attacks from a magical source can do considerable damage to him. If there is a magical shield or barrier that can withstand his blows, there really isn't anything else he can do.
Name: DFX-28
Nickname: None.
Race: Golem (Warforged)
Class: Artificer/Engineer
Gender: N/A, male personality
Age: 3 years
Height: 7 ft
Weight: 420 lbs (not counting equipment)
Appearance: DFX is considerably shorter than BRT, though he is still a respectable height when compared to others. And compared to BRT, his design and build is much more compact. He is still sheathed in metal, but it is nowhere as thick or heavy as BRT's. Like BRT, he seems elegantly crafted, but his design is much more sophisticated. He adorns himself with belts and bandoliers filled with all manner of tools, and carries a pack on his back stuffed with more items and materials of crafting. His eyes glow blue.
Personality/Demeanor: Personality-wise, DFX is a much deeper individual than BRT. He has prodigious knowledge of crafting, building, repairing, and engineering, as well as some arcane lore. He always has a creative solution for a problem. At least, when it doesn't involve BRT smashing it. He has a tendency to go on about explaining how his things work, sometimes big words and complicated phrases (much to the ire of BRT). He has a great curiosity for anything strange and unusual, always wanting to find out how things work. He cares very much for his tools, and loathes anyone else touching them. He harbors much distrust for any 'fleshling', having witnessed his home, and what amounted to his family and father killed in a mob, as well as often being attacked on sight whenever he or BRT nears a town, because they are mistaken as the monsters.
History: DFX was one of the last experimental creations of the wizard that built him, BRT, and many other constructs, most living. DFX was designed to be a crafting and enchanting assistant, to help the wizard perform more experiments and create more constructs. Unfortunately, this did not happen, as shortly after his creation, the wizard's forge and enclave was attacked and razed by a huge village mob. After seeing his brethren and the wizard slaughtered, he grabbed the last operational construct (BRT) and fled. They now roam around together without much purpose or direction.
Abilities/Combat: DFX really is not a fighter, but he has a considerable range of skills at his disposal. He can build, craft, or repair almost anything, including himself and BRT. It helps that he carries such an assortment of tools and materials that not having the right tool for the job is a rare, sometimes shocking occurrence. He also has ability in arcane magic, which he uses to supplement his skills. It mostly deals with enchantment, material creation, and material manipulation. If you've got a broken battleaxe, or lost your sword, he will put it back together, good as new (with 'improvements'), or make a new one from scratch entirely. Some of his tools are even enchanted to fly around and do things automatically with his direction (he only needs to think to control them)
Strengths: DFX can repair almost anything; there is very little he doesn't understand. He is generally a quick learner, and picks up on new things easily. As long as he has the materials, he can make all kinds of armor or weaponry, and usually enchants it. He can pick up very quickly on the innerworkings of just about any mechanical device or technology he comes across (he can disable almost any lock with ease), as well as analyze arcane magic when he encounters it. He can also, when direly needed, cast instant repair or mending spells on damaged items (but usually on either himself or BRT). However, this drains him, can sometimes be inefficient, and he usually prefers to work on something with his own hands anyway.
Weaknesses: DFX cannot fight worth crap. In combat, he is near completely useless. He usually has to hang behind BRT and let him do the dirty work, all the while trying to repair any damage done to him. Sure, he can through a heavy-metal-fisted punch, but if someone is close enough that he would have to do that, he's already in serious trouble. While he does carry around materials, they are more for making repairs to things rather than making new things. He usually has to use his magic to create the raw materials needed to make something from scratch, which can be quite draining. Also, he can't cast any directly offensive or defensive magic, as he doesn't have any spells like that (though he can enchant things to have offensive or defensive capabilities).
Name: Armita Zhelion
Race: Human
Class: Wizard / Battle mage
Gender: male
Age: 16 years
Height: 5'5''
Appearance: A blond, long hair, silvery blue eyes and a skin clean enough to belong to a high elf, Armita is exactly as you might imagine a paladin in his shining plate mail armor, saving ladies from fiends and protecting the people from all sorts of terrible things. Except that... wearing a pale yellow shirt, covered by a long jacked and dark grey trousers that have been sewed together a one time too many, his set of clothing reminds you that not all those who are blessed with beauty are selfish enough to take use of it. Heavy boots and a dusty back crown the image of poor adventurer. Always has few crows close to him (see more belove)
Personality/Demeanor: Chilly but jolly. Armita isn't the most social person you might've met, but he shares his smile with the poor and the sick. Always willing to lend aid to stranger with out any promise of profit, sometimes to a point to be called naive to the face.
History: Many people have seen less death in their whole lives than Armita has witnessed in his few years. Wars, genocide, oppression and depression. Armita comes from the dreadful Northern wastes, where strong exploit the rest, where wounded eat the dead and the rent is just quite awful. Armita can thank his mother who named and looked after him when he was still too young to be able to survive on his own. He doesn't remember about her that much anymore, because at the age of seven, Armita's mum died To a disease, which left him survive alone in a harsh environment. What doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger, goes the saying and in Armita's case that is more or less true. No death or pain shakes his mind, and perhaps this why he has taken of liking of the company of the dead. Making them walk, talk and do his will. The real people, how ever, have marked his talent of such things for a bad sign and often have started to execute their own justice, which has dropped Armita's trust to the living even more. Still, he remains optimistic about the people has yet to meet and is always willing to give a second change anyone who's willing to ask for it. "Forgive and forget" as his mother used to say.
Notes: An intresting feat that Armita carries around is a flock of crows. Not a curse nor a blessing, the birds keep Armita company where ever he ventures, making him impossible hide, but also impossible to sneak upon to, when there's four crows on his shoulders and more flying above him. The quantity of crows depends on the birds themselves, changing between 2 to 11. At one time, Armita tried to get rid of these creatures by throwing rocks at them, but only manged to make them quite mad at him for rest of the week. At one time he tried naming the birds, but soon noticed that the birds weren't the same when he tried remembering what to call them. Armita cannot command them, or even ask a small favour from them. What ever draws them to him is not giving him any control over them. Other than stealing small portions of his food and random pecking, they do not cause too much head ache to Necro... I mean Battle mage. Nor are they that much of a use. Bullying a dog or two is the most combat they can manage and when it becomes a real thing, they nearly with out exception seem to take a bit of a distance to their "master".
Abilities/Combat: Soon after her mother's death, Armita learned the way of magic. Perhaps this was a gift from his father that he never really met or perhaps the northern lights were particular strong on the night that he was born. He doesn't know. He doesn't care. He doesn't even bother to ask. The fact is that he can raise corpses to do the dishes or wield a sword, or animate a barb wire to hold a bully long enough for him to make his escape. Because people don't seem to like him bringing the dead with him while he's visiting a town, he has not claimed the tittle of a necromancer. A Battlemage is much more people friendly and lets him make alive friends from time to time. As a melee weapon, Armita carries a spear that he picked from a dead solider. "Not the finest weapon of the land, but it does it's job. I hope"
Strengths: Being able to wield a spear and cast a spell earns a man some amount of respect, even to a young lad as Armita. He is more than able to hand himself in a combat and even willing to do so. After all, fighting is what he's been done as long as he's been able to stand with his own two legs.
Weaknesses: Even though some spells come naturally to Armada's, he still carries and studies his spell book, which is perhaps his most valuable possession. The protective attitude has led him into trouble more than once. Every morning he reads through a whole book, trying to uncover more spells and to remember the old ones. This task is often very time consuming and demands concentration. The other source of his power are the dead. If there are no corpses around, a big deal of Armita's spells are as good as his crows' droppings. The animated dead can always be left outside the population, but then his control over them weakens considerably and they might start wandering off, start fighting each other or just drop dead. again.
Armita also eats twice as much as any other youngster of his age, because he feeds the crows that follow him. Other wise they'd probably just steal from his plate or become otherwise more of an annoyance.
Name: Bocks o' Monkeys.
Backstory: Nobody knows where Bocks came from, nor what it.. she... he... whatever, what he wants. He just.. is. He turns up when nobody is looking, and his monkeys tend to provide some assistance for the folks around him, if he's that way inclined. They sometimes deliver messages from him, on pieces of paper, signed Bocks. For some strange reason, the monkeys never, -ever- deface these. Nobody is really sure why, since the -unsigned- messages get defaced regularly. Tracing his history, he's appeared in times of need, particularly when people don't realise they need his assistance. Of course, it's sometimes difficult to tell what assistance he actually provided, since usually if anyone saw him, the monkeys were playing around, or were sitting there inscrutably picking non-existent fleas off each other, or thumbing their noses at people, or something...
Race: A box. Any race he's been in, he lost, unless nobody was watching. Of course, when I say "he" I use the nomenclature purely for convenience, since nobody is actually sure which gender he or she is...
Powers:
- Quantum locked; ie, can't move when anyone is looking. When people -aren't- looking, however, is much more mobile. And silent. And disturbing.
- Has monkeys. Monkeys will climb out of the box, and, when necessary, do tasks. Said tasks will be accomplished in the usual monkey fashion - some working for, some against, some fighting, the odd pair coupling in the background, etc, but with a general aim of completing said task. Unless, of course, they've climbed out of their own accord, in which case all bets are off.
- Also has large insides. Not infinite, but certainly tardis-like; much larger than the outside. There's a well in there somewhere. Also an Orangutang, for the big jobs.
Appearance:
- A 3ft cubic box, made of what appears to be a nice maple panelling with oak corners, and four square panels on the top that open outwards (one on each side) top allow egress of the monkeys. And the buckets. And whatever else they might bring with them.
- Has some vaguely fractal engravings on all six sides. When the panels are closed, it's difficult to tell which side they're on, and Bocks will sometimes appear to have lain down on one face. Or possibly there are panels on all six faces - nobody has ever gotten a clear answer about that one.
- Will appear to be watching people at times, although nobody is clear as to how, since Bocks has no eyes...
Other Notes:
- Susceptible to fire. If set on fire, the monkeys will form a bucket chain from the well inside to the outside, and pour water on the fire - and, as expected, also on each other and the general vicinity, and anything else they find it amusing.
- The monkeys aren't -quite- as stupid as they seem. Especially the ones that deliver message notes. In times of need, they will show up wearing armour and carrying bows, with which they're not terribly accurate - but then, who needs accuracy when you can fire 50 or so arrows at once? They also have short swords - well, short for monkeys, anyway. More like daggers than anything.
Name: Aeo Dall
Age: 20
Race: Tiefling
Gender: Male
Occupation: Warlock/ Treasure hunter
Appearance: Roughly 5 foot 10 weighing almost 140 lbs. Aeo wears a bright red shirt with yellow sleeves, under neath he wears a chain shirt. Blue pants and black boots are often his choice ion lower wear. He is tanned, but still has a light skin tone with two small horns coming out of his head. He has fire red hair and pointed ears. He often give off a feeling of perversion.
Personality: A liver of life and all it's joys Aeo rarely spends a moment moping or depressed. He is quick to jump at the call to adventure and often finds himself in over his head. While Aeo is cheerful and pleasant he does have a few lines that when crossed can turn him into a raging beast of infernal power. He's not quick on the uptake (See Idot).
Powers: As a warlock Aeo has powerful infernal connections and is able to limitlessly use them. He can produce the infernal "Edlritch Blast" and is well versed in manipulating it to his please, often imbuing it with the essence of Fire, Cold, acid and the power to sap his enemies. He can manipulate the powers to jump to other random enemies as well. He also has the ability to shape shift into a powerful demonic form, however he must be in extreme durres (about to die) or under extreme emotional stress and he looses control of himself during these times. To protect himself from wandering thieves he has trained himself to use a mace which he has enchanted with a moderate fire enchantment. He calls it his Matchstick.
Strengths: His infernal powers almost never exhaust and are incredibly formidable. They can cause horrible deformities if they do not kill. Aeo is also naturally charismatic, though he finds it hard to gain peoples trust. He doesn't really know why though. Despite his aura though he is capable of making friends quickly if people let him. He tends to protect such friends and often regards them in high esteem. They are however, not spared his lechery if female. Despite his fair sized ego Aeo often finds himself helping out more than a few "underdogs", it never bothers him as he has a great sense of charity.
Weaknesses: While he's not a real idiot, Aeo is not exactly book smart and tends to trust to much and if betrayed rarely trusts the person again. Physically he is barely strong enough to use his mace and can tire quickly if he doesn't pace himself and like most magic users he can't take much damage. Also if he snaps into his demonic form he looses control and predictably wake up with little to no memory of what has happened. As a tiefling he has a particularly weird aura that surrounds him and usually scares women off and ticks off most guys, an aura of perversion. It doesn't help that he's a bit of a lech and will hit on most females. Aeo also does not know how to behave around dwarves, gnomes and other short statured races, he is usually chased out of such towns very quickly and only recently has begun to understand that such races do not like being compared to children (it took a gnome wizard running a lightning bolt through his horns for that to get through) and of course it should be obvious that he is DENSE. While he is quick to understand things in life threatening situations, the wheels tend to slow and even grind to a stop in most other situations. If he's in a bar expect lechery like you've not seen. Did I mention he couldn't find his way out of a tunnel?
History: Aeo grew up in a small town and was raised by the local priestess as he was found on the door step of the local church. Thankfully Aeo was left in the hands of a caring and compassionate person. Unfortunately Aeo grew up to embrace the "lesser" part of his nature as his adoptive mother calls it. When he came of age he set out on a small adventure to a nearby town and nearly got drug head first into a weird conspiracy, if hadn't been for the fact that a local heor solved the problem he probably would have ended up dead. Since then he has been honing his skills and traveling the country side in search of treasure and a great "Awesome-mind-bogglingly-cool" adventure.
Often times he's found himself in adventuring groups that have simply abandoned him due to his highly grating and overly cheery personality. In fact in his last group the necromancer almost strangled him because he wouldn't stop smiling. He ended up being forced to leave he heard news of a grand adventure forming in a small town. Yeah, he headed the wrong way for an entire day.
Notes: Aeo is based of a D&D character of mine. I've tried my best to translate him to this RP, but if anything needs changing let me know. I've also playfully embellished some aspects of his personality. Except for the lechery... yeah...
Name: Aireluin Silithiel
Age: 120
Race: Fiana Sidhe (child of a faerie and an elf)
Gender: Female
Profession/Occupation: Light Dragoon (also called a Knight Gunner)
Description: She stands roughly 1.82 meters (~6ft) in height and weights a deceptive 73 kg (~162lbs). Due to faerie heritage, her form is lithe and built like a gymnast. Her tone is pale like that of cream, smooth and supple, for she carries no scars. The eyes are a sparkling emerald green and her hair is short in length and the color of fresh Japanese cherry blossoms. Her lithe form also means her chest size is small, and she can easily be mistaken for a male, albeit a very feminine one.
Personality and demeanor: Aire is a conflicted one, she wishes to be determined and steadfast, but can be very unsure of herself if venturing into things she has little experience in. She possess patience and is soft spoken, but stands firm on things she is sure about (like the sanctity of life and the protection of her friends).
History and story: Aire comes from a land of unusual contrasts. The city she hails from is one of heavy magic use and more "modern" technologies mixed into a hybrid of form and function. She was raised among a lower tier noble class and was squired (in reality pushed off and away by her father) into the guardian knighthood at the earliest possible age. She was fostered under general tutelage and mentored by a knight generalist until she was old enough to choose her path. For some reason she always found herself enamored with light guns and those that used them. She choose the path of the dragoon and worked to master her path. After her time of appointment to knight, she approached her father, hoping to finally earn his acceptance. He turned and walked away from her without a word. On that day she left the knighthood and sought her own path, disillusioned by this rejection. Her leaving was not necessarily an authorized act, but she is not considered a deserter, merely errant.
Powers and abilities:
Affinity to Light magic - her elven ancestry grants her an affinity with light magics. The Knight Gunner/Light Dragoon profession is also a Light magic specialist, though it focuses on the damaging aspects of the element and secondaries the healing aspect. Because she is faerie elven, her best healing magics are partially empathic, drawing it within herself and purifying it internally. She is very strong against Light attacks and magical abilities/affects.
Martial training - as a knighthood, her profession's strengths are martial weapons. She is not as skilled as a dedicated warrior because of a split focus on light magic, nor is she a versatile as an archer as her weapon is magical based and has a lower rate of fire generally. It is, however, more powerful then a bow or crossbow and out ranges them.
Magical training - as a Light user, she has the full spectrum of abilities, but is far more limited then a mage due to the split focus with martial training and a focus on damaging aspects of the element. Her healing and protection abilities are secondary, and her ability to deal with undead and dark magics is very limited. However, she inflicts a lot of damage to undead.
Weakness and limitations: most of her factors are story based, but her species and element affinities carry a few drawbacks.
Dark sensitivity - a reliance on Light makes her a bit weak against Dark magical attacks and influence. It is not an glaring vulnerability, just as Light is not a massive strength, but it balances her equation nicely.
Material vulnerability - her half faerie blood gives her a weakness to lodestone, highly magnetized iron (known as magnetite - iron II and iron III oxides). As this is relatively uncommon, it rarely provides her much of a problem. The only affect of the material causes her magics to suffer penalties and her wounds to hurt and bleed more then normal.
Additional notes: She is a user of light plate armor, light guns (rifle and pistol), one-handed swords and shields. As a knight she can ride a horse, read and understands heraldry as well as etiquette and fashion.
Specific notes: light guns are really little more then stylized wands and rods. They developed handles and a loading mechanism (a firing hammer that must be cocked in order to work) as ritual in their use. They do not specifically use any ammo, other then magic, but they have a low fire rate. The weapon fires a single searing blast of light energy with a reasonable impact and high damage, but also a high amount of flash/fire and relatively loud as it is coughed forth from the barrel. The weapons are nicknamed dragon guns, as they roar and spit fire, hence the term dragoon for the class.
Name: Alcir Dalstone
Race: Human, turned Undead
Gender: Male
Age: 167 (34 alive, 133 undead)
Class: Mage
Appearance: Alcir always wears a thick, black hooded robe. Since he was not dead long before rising again, his body had not decomposed noticably and his skin wasn't discolored much. However a good amount of the right side of his face (from the cheeck up to the hairline and from the nose nearly to the ear) is now covered by a dull metal plate that has been bolted into place. Under the robe, he wears thin black pants and a similar long sleeved shirt.
History: Somewhat interested in magic as a child, Alcir decided to study it at the young age of thirteen. The small academy he joined taught him basics of most magic and then told him to specalize, he chose frost. One classmate of Alcir grew to hate him because of envy of Alcir's skill.
A couple of weeks before Alcir was due to graduate, the master sent Alcir and this one classmate to "borrow" a book from a nearby necromancer. After they had gotten the book, the classmate betrayed Alcir and slew him. A short time later, Alcir awoke as an Undead. Why the necromancer had risen him as a sentient undead and sent him on his way, Alcir never knew. But he didn't question it and ran.
Because of his new race, Alcir could never completly join back with society. He was able to become a part of a network of dark magisters and necromancers and he kept up with the wide world as much as possible. But even these shadowy interactions were rare and eventually faded away.
Alcir became a complete recluse, only seeing people when they came into his hideaway, these people turned a fled when they realized an Undead was in the cave.
A couple of years ago, Alcir became fed up with being called a monster and decided to become a hero to gain honor and good fame. So far, it hasn't worked well.
Personality: While Alcir was personable and always able to laugh when he was alive, becoming an Undead has turned his character a bit darker. Since he withdrew from the world, he didn't have anyone to talk to besides himself, so even now he will converse and argue with himself. Since he has taken up heroing as a profession, he's been trying to regain his sociable characteristics.
Powers: Due to years of study in frost while alive and undeceased, Alcir is quite capable of any frost or cold related magic. After his undeath, Alcir realized he had an affinity for dark magics and has gone into a heavy study of that subject. Though he has no knowledge of physical combat, Alcir keeps two jeweled daggers on him at all times due to their useful enchantments.
Notes: Alcir's cape is enchanted to be far below freezing on the inside, both to prevent decay and theft of the robe.
Name: Enigma Volontros
Age: Appears to be in his 30's
Race: seems Human
Gender: Male
Profession/Occupation: Magic Ware Peddlers
Description: stands 5'11". Dark skin, hazel eyes, athletic build with short black hair. He dresses in dark clothes and tends to travel most around dusk and dawn.
Personality and demeanor: A little flighty at times, Enigma lives up to his name being something of a puzzle to all that meet him.
History and story: Much of Enigma's history is unknown. There are rumors and tales of him going back almost 100 years, but so far, no-one has confirmed that he is the same one that the tales describe, and not someone trying to cash in on the name.
Powers and abilities: Most legends say Enigma can can use magic but in recent years no-one has seen him cast a single spell. An average fighter, he tends to avoid fights whenever possible and works both sides of a situation if he can. He travels through mysterious means but aside from that, he's quite human.
Martial training: A street fighter, Enigma seems to borrow bits and pieces from many fighting styles relying mostly on weapons or kicks to attack his opponent. His favorite weapons are short blades and poles.
Magical training: This is lost to legends, and only Enigma knows the truth, if he truly is Enigma
Weakness and limitations: As a peddler of magical tools he deals with all kinds, and they tend to be volatile at times; such that he needs extra care that he only carries as much as he plans to sell or use. This sometimes can inhibit or enhance the use of magic in chosen fields. or can inhibit the using of and opposing field Because of this he must chose what to use and what to leave behind very carefully. He also has no special defenses again any magic short of whatever tool he's actually using at the moment
Material vulnerability: Anything that can hurt a human will hurt Enigma. While he seems to have a high tolerance for pain, he's not invulnerable and can be knocked out or killed via normal means.
Note: Enigma used both light and dark magic but both sparingly and very rarely. They are more for transportation than for fights or healing or raising the dead.
He's a magic tool peddler and thus has to know at least enough about his tools to demonstrate them. He travels using means unknown to others(air magic) . He has a high tolerance for pain but other than that he's as human as most people and he has legends about him going back 100 year, which means he may not be the real enigma but a fake using the name.
Name: David Grand
Race: Human - Magic Modified
Backstory: While the origins of Chaos have and cannot ever be clarified, it is known to those few who have seen him in action know that he considers himself more a force then a person. While this is highly presumptuous of the man, most let it slide to the obviously unstable nature of his mind. There are those, however who see beyond the first glance and recognize a strong and powerful mind. Though apparently blind, Chaos is known to disregard this fact and some even have seen the patterns of Chaos appearing where he says he needs to be.
Though investigations usually yield no information, on night an adventurer was able to get the blind man inebriated enough to get one story out of him.
"No one wants to be like me. I used to be a diviner, note used. Name was David, I think. Grand? I think now that I am the perfect example of what happens when things go wrong. It's hard you see, to stay on track when things seem so obvious, but to know that you can never guess, to seem so clear, but to be disgusted. Well, I meddled. That what we do, we seers when we get that bite of ambition. I tried something that I had no right to do. What's worse was I succeeded. After, well, I find that I can't keep my mind on things long enough to do anything of great note or power anymore. I have too much to do. You know that I have just decided to give up? Pleasure and fun are my masters, those and the wind and road."
Powers: After a magical 'accident', Chaos found that he had a form of limited Omniscience. Gaining instant physical knowledge of all things nearby. While this often allows him access to great amounts of knowledge, he often has trouble sifting through and prioritizing his information. ("Of course that man has a gun, so does the assassin that went in your friends room three minutes ago! Relax, he can take care of himself." ) In addition to this, he seems to be a capable physical fighter and has a descent grasp on magic (Though none have actually seen him cast)
Appearance: Chaos often changes clothes to suit his moods, but he always keeps his eyes covered. Once in a while though a person might catch him looking people in the eyes or checking out that woman... His hair is a light brown, build is spry and voice is a light baritone.
Other Notes: If this character seems easily abusable, he is. This is my generic character that I tend to use in open RPG. Thus it is easily scale-able to the appropriate power level. Also it can easily rev upwards when needed. I do have a multi-dimensional story to explain the set up, however I've always been afraid that it would sound cheesy. But I do have a quote that I like to use to show both the scale and balance of the character.
"I know everything, but everything is a huge book, and I only got to read it once."

That weregerbil sounds sweet. What are the tech limitations, if I may be so bold?
This seems like a DnD-esque adventure to me...Not bad.
No real tech limitations. Try to keep things within a medieval style, but that doesn't exclude steam-punk. There will likely, eventually, be steam-punk style golems, so the option is available to everyone.
It is sorta D and D-esque, in-so-far as it's a fantasy setting. However, it's not a set "Dragonlance" (or the like) world, not even partially. Besides being fantasy, the similarities to D and D pretty much taper off there. ;)
Hrmm might try to put a character up. Let me know what ya think.
Name: Tarson Hunter
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Species: Human mixed with stone golem
He is skilled with it but not many other weapons
The max distance of this ability is 100 yards..
Y'know, I may actually join, I just thought of a charcater. I might be back later.

I like it. Good way to think a bit outside the standard. I may tweak the limits and strengths a bit on the lightning magic, but other than that, I see nothing unworkable. ;)
Good character.
I'm bumping just once to remind those who expressed interest that, without aigning up, this will fade away. ;)
Course, who knows... maybe I'm not taking the hint.
I'd have signed up, but the sellers are still pissing me about with the house. :-/
Still a month away from moving. We'll see how things go.
Well, it'll take time to setup the characters and get the setting ready. Why not post up a character? That way we can show two ready people for the game, and it might actually happen. ;)
I might play, as long as i can have a guy with a big, diaphragm laugh.
Hey, that's you to play. I don't write the character interactions, I just tell you when you're doing something stupid.
it looks like fun but i get the feeling that i'm either not dark enough or too dark for this game.
Working on my profile. Might have it up later today.
A fresh game? (more or less, anyway)
I might feel a bit green with you old forumists, but I'm not gonna let that affect my roleplaying. No sirree.
I'll get you a character by the end of this week. I got an idea or three brewing in my mind already. Just sit still.

Creativity is what's important, not "darkness".
Ha! Finally got it all done. Actually, it's two separate profiles, but the characters work together. In fact, they are mainly based off of two charcaters I'm actually using for a real DnD campaign now. They are the classic "brains and brawn" pair. And even though you said this was an open RP, and all races are allowed (if not welcome), I'm fairly certain you didn't think of the...Warforged >:3. Especially since you said your RP doesn't actually have much in common with DnD, and the Warforged are from the Eberron setting. How I've managed to work them into here is that they are creations of an independent wizard. But, if I am mistaken, and warforged are indeed a known race, I can edit their history a bit. Note that while I am referring to them as warforged now, IC they won't have that name. They will just be the 'living constructs'. Also, while I did specify their 'classes', they really don't actually go by any DnD rules; it's just to give you an idea of how they lean. For example, though I listed DFX-28 as an artificer, he doesn't cast 'infusions', he does arcane magic normally, if a little limited. Likewise, while BRT-75 is listed as a warforged Juggernaut, he doesn't actually really have most of the class features as actual abilities, excepting being simply bigger, stronger, and tougher.
For those of you not familiar with warforged, here is their physical description, copied from the Eberron Campaign Setting:
Warforged appear as massive humanoids molded from a composite of materials--obsidian, iron, stone, darkwood, silver, and organic material--though they move with a surprising grace and flexibility. Flexible plates connected by fibrous bundles make up the body of a warforged, topped by a mostly featureless head.
Warforged have no physical distinction of gender; all of them have a basically muscular, sexless body shape. In personality, some warforged seem more masculine or feminine, but different people might judge the same warforged in different ways. The warforged themselves seem unconcerned with matters of gender. They do not age naturally, though their bodies do decay slowly even as their minds improve through learning and experience.
Unique among constructs, warforged have learned to modify their bodies through magic and training. Many warforged are adorned with heavier metal plates than those their creator originally endowed them with. This customized armor, built-in weaponry, and other enhancements to their physical form help to differentiate one warforged from another.
Here (http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=Warforged&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2) are some references (http://search.deviantart.com/?section=browse&qh=boost%3Apopular+age_sigma%3A24h+age_scale%3A5&q=Warforged) for warforged, to give you a better basic idea of what they look like. Ignore any Titans. (And yes, I do realize just how tall my BRT is, I actually measured it with a measuring tape vertically)
Name: BRT-75
Nickname: Now referred to as Tank
Race: Warforged
Class: Fighter/WF Juggernaut
Gender: Not Applicable, male personality
Age: 10 years
Height: 10 ft (not counting spikes)
Weight: 2,300 lbs (not counting oversized greathammer)
Nickname: None, yet. Wants to wait for the right name for himself. Refer to him as DFX.
Race: Warforged
Class Artificer/Engineer
Gender: Not Applicable, male personality
Age: 2 years
Height: 7 ft
Weight: 720 lbs (not counting equipment)
Unfortunately, while he did get a good amount of crafting tutelage, this did not happen. A year after his creation, the wizard's forge and enclave was attacked and razed by a huge village mob.
*whew* That was one of my longer endeavors...but it was worth it. If BRT needs any nerfing, just let me know and I'll power him down a bit. If you don't want me playing two characters simultaneously, just say so. I've actually got another idea I really want an excuse to create.
So what'cha think, D-moon?
They look fine to me. Rather golem like, which the system I'll be using covers. I don't see a lot of things in there that will be too difficult to work with.
That said, I'm a touch more concerned with BRT than I am DXT (although magic, in any form, is expensive to buy into for characters, so that might be an issue as well). BRT is a touch on the over powered side (when it comes to dealing with he weight, his strength, and his equipment. I can work around it, but there will certainly be some disadvantages I'll have to work in to make the character come out right without him being a god-mod.
I am curious. You're planning to play both these characters at the same time?
Well, that's a good start, I think.

Like I said, I thought you might have some issues with BRT (the big one). If you really need me to shrink him a little (deceasing his power), I can do it. He will get slightly faster though. But he doesn't really have any equipment, aside from his greathammer. DFX is the one with all the equipment :B Speaking of DFX (
not DXT), like I said, his magic really isn't directly offesive or defensive, he has to actually enchant things, which he can't and won't do often. Ususally he only uses his magic when he has to conjure up some raw materials to make something, or perform emergency repair on himself or BRT.
Quote from: Darkmoon on January 30, 2008, 12:47:18 PM
I am curious. You're planning to play both these characters at the same time?
Why yes, I am. That's actually the point; they work together. That's actually another underlying weakness to them: if they are separated, they are in trouble. BRT, while he is certainly not mindless, usually needs DFX to give him intructions on what to do, otherwise he's liable to simply smash everything he sees. And DFX needs BRT for personal protection because, like said, DFX can't really fight.
But that's the other thing I thought you might have a problem with. If you don't want me playing two characters, that is no problem at all, I've got another idea waiting to be typed.
Well, on the one hand, I think playing two characters is interesting (at time)... hell, I've done it myself on more than one occasion.
On the other, considering the nature of forum-based RPGs, with their InC, and OoC, and asides, and everything else, I'm not certain whether or not running two characters would be confusing.
As far as what I meant about the equipment, I'm thinking long term. The wizard made BRT, and that took equipment. BRT upgraded, and that took equipment. All of it took money, so, during character creation, I'd have to account for that money, even if you never got a chance in game to spend it.
Omega: Yours seems easy enough. Necromancy works a touch differently in my game than D&D, but what you outlined is workable enough. Magic is innate, and the only reason to use a spell book instead of just drawing the magic in and naturally casting "spells" would be if that's how you're trained to do it. The mind is a powerful thing, and if you believe you have to cast real "spells", then that's what you have to do, even if everyone else does it different.

The wizard had his own estate, encalve, and forge. That was his equipment. DFX doesn't come close to the magical ability he would have had. The wizard could probably just conjure up whatever materials he needed. Heck, if he needs money, maybe he was related to a noble or lord and inherited something. I really can't see how the wizard is terribly important, he's just a mentioned figure in BRT-75 and DFX-28's history to give an explanation as to why there are two, and only two, 'warforged' wandering around your world. If you've got a different idea that could explain this, that's fine by me. Or even, if the warforged really are a race in your setting, that's fine too. I can edit the history any way you need.
But if you really think these characters are going to be a problem, just say so. I've got another character I can try.
As I said, it's not a problem, I just want to make sure you thought through how you're going to play them (and play them convincingly ;) ).
The warforged fit nicely in with my Golems, so that's not an issue. The money isn't really an issue, either, I just mentioned it so you're aware you'll likely start with less than everyone else.

Weeell, they've been wandering around the countryside for quite some time, and have found it near impossible to approach most towns because they are mistaken as monsters, sooooo...that's kind of a given. BRT just has his greathammer, and DFX has whatever stuff he managed to grab when their home was destroyed, as well as whatever they've managed to loot off of small bandit parties and small goblinoid squads who underestimated them. I have to imagine that doesn't actually amount to a lot of gold pieces in the first place, not that they have much use for them in the first place.
As for fitting in with Golems...well, the traditional golem is generally something sculpted from a single material, i.e., flesh golems, clay golems, stone golems, iron golems, razor golems, bone golems...and are usually single-purpose. I generally dislike golems; they are to simple and don't have many special abilities. Other contructs are almost always composites of various materials, built in ways different from golems, as well as animated with different magics. However, this is only how they work in D&D, and I'm getting the vibe that your world functions differently, so please enlighten me on the state of your constructs. I love constructs, I want to know everything you have come up for them in your setting :3
It is much more in-line with what you discussed (except for maybe the spikes). Their creation process is somewhat different, but the end result can end up being a lot like DXT.

I'm willing to compromise almost anything.
And I have no problem with you using a spell book. It would actually be a disadvantage that would allow me to custominze other parts of your character more. Would be nice.
You would just have to realize that you'd be missing out on a different way to play it. Your call, really.
Bocks o' Monkeys.
Backstory:
Nobody knows where Bocks came from, nor what it.. she... he... whatever, what he wants. He just..
Race:
- A box.
The characters are all approved. I will get them ready, and have this first post for the game (setting it up) likely Saturday evening.
Veeeeerrry nice llearch. This is going to be very interesting IC, I can tell. I can already see all kinds of good RPing coming from this.
Though, if any of the fling poo at BRT, he probably will either step on them or Bocks :U

What are my options?
Also, llearch n'n'daCorna. You'r chacarter reminds me of this one Nobilis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobilis) game that I took part a while ago. With out the god like powers that is.
This kinda gives you an overview of how I like to run magic: http://cvrpg.com/main.php?page=guidemagic
Name: Aeo Dall
Age: 20
Race: Tiefling
Gender: Male
Occupation: Warlock (D&D type)/ Treasure hunter
Except for the lechery... yeah...
Well, I will do my best to put him into the system. Some bits, however, will have to be toned down.
No prob, just let me know.
Your approval message has been sent.
On a note, I am deliberately and temporarily referring to both of them as 'it'. This will discontinue when someone else refers to them as 'he' (or 'she', if you somehow interpret that :B). Likewise, I'll refer to BRT as whatever name everyone else decides to call him. DFX, however, will want to remain DFX until he can find a name that he personally likes.
Quote
While the smaller humanoid next looked to his left...
Under the somewhat bemused gaze of the humanoid...
Just for clarity, are you referring to DFX?
For those curious, there's nothing wrong with the box. It is a big glass and metal box full of water.
If this is still open then, I submit the below for approval. If the game is closed to new applicants, then disregard this.
The weapons are nicknamed dragon guns, as they roar and spit fire, hence the term dragoon for the class.
tech, two points:
1) Bocks isn't made out of cardboard. He's made out of wood. Read the appearance segment of my post (http://clockworkmansion.com/forum/index.php/topic,3962.msg174873.html#msg174873).

DFX has never seen anything like this, so he can't tell it's all a show :B
Normally he would test it himself, but that would mean swiping his own hand through it. He was built to polite for that :3
I was letting people play it their way. llearch, however, established that the mime-box was, in fact, real enough, just invisible.
Azlan, so long as the game is in the town, it's open. Even after they leave, I may still allow limited sections where new characters could join. I'll check out your character in a bit and get it approved.
Since you've NPCed my Mime, can I steal her if they manage to pry her out of the box?
Of course. She was your character to begin with.

To that end, I don't think my characters will be able to do anything. Unless, of course, BRT tries to smash it with his greathammer. But he tries that, he'll squash the mime into strawberry jam, too :<
I don't know... it's a pretty good box. She's not one of those crappy mimes. ;)
I did think of that. What I said was in the hypothetical situation that the mime-box wasn't absolutely impenetrable. Unless you have the right silly mind to crack it, of which niether me nor my characters have :rolleyes
I'm sure llearch can find a way.
are the magic of light and dark completely exclusive? if not is it possible for someone who traffic's in magical aids to use them both.
See, here I figured if anyone else tried to touch the box, it wouldn't exist.
It's just the mime (who is "trapped") and the monkeys (who aren't bright enough to figure it's a joke)
It's the whole magic trick thing. Anyone else touches the box, it's not there. And yet there's a monkey standing on it.
Anyway...
llearch: Well that would be the case, if it weren't for the fact that you stumbled onto a Mime that actually is able to make the things she's performing. ;)
e-voyager: Unless you decide to specialize in a magic type, you can use all magic types. Specializing gives you somewhat of a bonus when I create the character, but not everyone feels the need for that bonus.
In other words, if you wanna play someone that uses both light and dark, be my guest.

Ah. Nuts. I kinda like the idea of a monkey standing on nothing... ;-]
I'll see if I can pry the Mime loose later. I'm sure we'll get on well. *grin*
I'm going to let the game coast for a few "round" as you guys get acclimated. Once enough time has stretched on, I'll start up the town hall meeting.
DFX just needs someone to talk to! :B Instead I get stuck with a mime and a monkey box xD
EDIT: And now both of my chars are completely alone! :C (I'm not even bothering to count the mime at this point)
Feel free to sit down next to the box and talk to the monkeys. I'm sure they'll be happy to listen.
They're not really great conversationalists, though, I'm afraid...
I thought the box wasn't there anymore;
QuoteWhen she looks up, Bocks is gone again.
Come to the drunken Dragon then. Nothing like chatting it up with a tiefling. :)
DFX only went into the town looking for a blacksmith as an excuse to interact with the townspeople, whether they be hostile or not. At this point, it seems that no one has even noticed them, which leaves DFX at a total loss of anything to do. And as a general rule, BRT doesn't walk anywhere on his own.

The thing to do, in a case such as this, is never put yourself into a position where you can't continue moving with the action. If you need a blacksmith, why not go look for the blacksmith? Maybe the blacksmith isn't there, just a note saying "Gone to the Drunken Dragon" or "Gone to Town Meeting"?

Daimien, warforged don't exist as a race here. It's just these two. To your character, they are completely foriegn.
I was wondering about that myself. Calling them golems would be more appropriate.
I can edit that, but I'd rather Damien did so.

Well, they'd grow more, I'm sure, but it wouldn't be cheap.

Daimien, warforged don't exist as a race here. It's just these two. To your character, they are completely foriegn.
Alright I'll fix it.
Wait, 6? ...aw, dammit, I messed up, that was supposed to be seven *berates self* I was typing a lot when I made the profiles, must have had a bit of a mind-blank when I was doing that part :mowdizzy
EDIT: Fix'd.
EDIT EDIT: And I only refered to them as warforged in their profiles. I did actually say that was only for clarity, and that they wouldn't be called that IC:

Note that while I am referring to them as warforged now, IC they won't have that name.
So, this game is still open right? And this is where we post the characters first, correct? (First time RPer in a forum.)
If it is indeed still open, I'd like to make a character.
Man, you lot are active while I'm asleep. :-/
Pagan, I'll approve your character once I'm home from work tonight.
We had two new people join today (one of them by IM), so I'm going to wait on the Town Hall meeting until tomorrow afternoon, just to give them a chance to post into the thread and intro themselves.
Name: Enigma Volontros
Age: Unknown. Appears to be in his 30's
He has a high tolerance for pain but other than that he's as human as most people and he has legends about him going back 100 year, which means he may not be the real enigma but a fake using the name.
i thank darkmoon for adding the extra depth to my character.
Be aware, you do get the feeling there is someone after you. You've heard rumors of another person claiming to be the real Enigma, and the fact that they want you dead.
Additionally, you did sort of cheat a king out of a bit of his fortune with one of your magic items. He's not pleased with you, and should you go back to that kingdom (I'll let you know if it looks likely to occur), well... that could be bad...

ignoring the origin as an archiac term for an adult, male human... were, is typically a prefix applied to an animal type to indicate a shapeshifter (such as a werefox). As a noun, it is used by therianthropes as a means of self-identification.
So he sells magical weregerbils :3
If only. I just assumed he was selling magical wares, honestly.
i hope that my introduction post meet with satisfaction and
and? And what?
And I'm going to buy everyone in this thread a new sportscar?
And I just realized I ran out of milk?
And in breaking news tonight...?
Oh... oh no!

sorry lack of sleep. still haven't sleep yet and sometimes i drop off mid thought when i've gone to long without sleep. i think what i meant to was was and i've given you and ideal what enigma is like or something in that ball park. but i have work in 9 hours time to sleep if i can.
Yeah, go sleep. You get incomprehensible when you're exhausted.
What -are- you doing with that brawl, D?
The question is, what are you going to do with it, eh?
I think I might be able to find a way to stop them. At least get their attention.
Good question. Stay clear, I think. Domestic squabbles are dangerous. ;-]
Damien, since you're the only person so far to express interest in dealing with the fracas in the square (as Aeo is dealing with other things outside), I'm going to PM you what's going on at the Entertainer's camp. You can choose the share that information in game, or not, as you see fit.
So does this mean I can come back to the village now? It seems my work at the camp is done for now.
I figured you would have already. Yes, you can.
Has the meeting officially begun? i know i'm just a merchant but any chance at profit is likely to peek my interest.
Notyet. The Mime and Golems haven't yet joined the meeting hall, and, come to think of it, the rest of the heroes (except for Azlan and llearch) are out in the town square.
Probably tonight, I'll start the meeting.
Wait, is the Mime actually going to be with us?
She's a real character. My assumption is yes. However, depending on how the next couple of days go, there are up to three separate plotlines any or all of you could follow, so "with you" is relative.
Just how does one cast a spell in this RPG? Do I have to give you a list of all the spells that I'd like my character to know, or are you willing to let me compose my own when the need arises?
Just compose your own. If ever you do something that I think you shouldn't, I'll let you know.
If we were playing this on a tabletop, the system would allow you to decide how strong you want the spell to be (conversely effecting how hard it is to cast), and how you want it to function (what spell effects, based on your magic type, you want to accomplish).
EDIT: FYI, talking zombies are not that uncommon in my world. I edited your post just slightly to remove that confusion (since, someone with knowledge of the black arts would know that).
Sorry to go a bit AWOL, guys. Work was all consuming this week. I'll try to be better.
we all have days ,weeks and sometimes months like that.. i for one would like to discuss the six charms that enigma is planing to sell if he gets the chance

Well, at the very least, you
did just name one of my characters :) I must go put it in his profile now :3
On another note, 'getting things moving' is a subconcious leadership trait. The one who does so, intentionally or not, is gunning for the Alpha position in the pack. Unless someone actually wishes to challenge that claim, all pack members will congregate to the one who assumed Alpha first.
Just go with it. That's the beauty of RPs. You are writing a story, but you're not the
only one writing it. You're charcater just jumped for the leader slot, and no one has challenged thus far.
That makes you the leader. And thus they story goes in a direction you never imagined or intended. That's not usually a bad thing.
I concur with techmaster. Leaders don't always want to be the leader, sometimes they kinda fall into that slot. But again, this story is still young, so who knows what'll happen?
And so we finally introduce ourselves. I was wondering when that would happen.
BTW, don't move
too fast. We don't want to leave Damaris' Mime behind.
EDIT:
Quote

Tarson looks at DFX.
"She give you any inclination she was coming along?"
If Damaris is coming along, I would have thought that The Mime would have followed DFX outside. Just because she is having some current trouble posting doesn't mean she isn't there. Though I can't actually tell you to do anything, my personal thought is that should be left open until she actually is able to post and catch up.
But that's just me.
EDIT EDIT: And as for supplies, I think DFX can probably make whatever anyone needs. He
does have a huge rucksack on his back filled to the brim with stuff, as well as many belts filled with tools.
I think someone IC would have noticed that :U
Ah yes, but that doesn't necessarily mean that everything you need, he can make. I'm certainly not going to allow him to have a rucksack of plot convenience.
Not plot convenience, just mostly standard stuff. Granted, most of the stuff in his sack is raw materials for making repairs to himself or Tank, but he could adapt those materials for other things if the situation calls for it using any number of his tools. Ingenuity, resourcefulness, and crafting is what the character DFX is all about.
True, but I'm still limiting your character to the standard budget most characters start off with. It's a way of stopping any form of god-modding through accessories.
I'm actually going to descibe what's in it in my next post. If there is anything you feel I shouldn't have, tell me.
I seriously hope people didn't expect DFX to carry food and water. I mean, he's a Golem. What need would he have for food and water?
No need to be jerks to him.
I didn't think I was being a jerk to him. :cry
Well, think about it. He troubled himself to show all the things he had at his disposal, and therefor the party's, and you basically said 'we don't need it'. How would you feel?
To be fair, Tarson isn't entirely a nice person, but we are dealing with creatures that have little social skill. Bear this in mind. ;)

EDIT by D: I edited this, since I don't think you really should share quite as much as you did, iffin you want to be able to really do as you want. ;)
I'm not gonna rush those of you heading off to investigate the goblins, et all, so just let me know when you are ready to move out of town and onwards with the adventure.
Chaos - David Grand
Race: Human - Magic Modified.
I'll work on your character tonight when I'm home.
Omega, I hoped you ran that past Azlan before posting all of it.
'xcuse me?
Ah no. It's just Armita getting poetical once more. It's how he sees Aire. It has (or at least shouldn't have) anything to do with Azlan's character's background or overall image. Just like saying "I think that hat makes him look funny" or "You look scary to me." The fact that Aire really does cover her death is irrelevant. It's just how my character sees her.
But, if I've offended anyone, I'm more than willing to change that post.

Tarson looks over at DFX and shrugs a bit while walking.

Or were you not talking to DFX, but just glanced at him in passing?
And in case anyone's wondering, DFX and Tank are walking (or in Tank's case, shaking the ground with every step) just behind the group, not really saying anything. I'm just saying that here so I don't have to make a useless in-character post about it.
I was talking to DFX. He was joking about the two talking to each other. You know cause he just told them something so he looked at DFX and said that as more of an off hand comment. He's treating DFX as one of the guys.
Ah. Got it.
In that case I should respond, however small it is.
You guys are more than welcome to post in here whenever you want me to push the story along. However, I am enjoying seeing your character interactions, so I don't want to get in the way.

Glitch, the constructs don't die to an old age, do they? Otherwise Armita wouldn't be able to "see death" in them either.
Maybe he can see death clinging to them, as if they bring it with them wherever they go, if only by accident.

Glitch, the constructs don't die to an old age, do they? Otherwise Armita wouldn't be able to "see death" in them either.
Real constructs don't. This is bacause a true construct or golem was never alive in the first place. Warforged however, as described in Eberron, are 'living' constructs. It it hypothesized that, after 150 years, the internal body structure of a warforged, being a mesh of inorganic and organic material, might start to decay, and eventually break down. This theory has not been verified, since in Eberron, the first true warforged was created only thirty-three years before the campaign start.
However, I think I will leave this particular technical detail up to Darkmoon. In Tank and DFX's case, if D-Moon says they
will eventually 'die' of old age, it is a long way off. Tank, the older of the two, is barely more than five years old. If they don't, I guess Armita won't be able to see death in them either, except unless we go with what Darkmoon just said.
i find my self in the shadows stalking along behind the crew listening and watching more then anything. if fact i'm not sure that anyone even those i tried to speak to noticed i was there. but that's okay the game has just begun.
also just out of curiosity what exactly is a quid and how much would 5000 of them be in a check? i ask because of and art fraud article mentioned that the asking price for a piece was 15000 pounds and the buying thing it was low added and addition 5000 quid and if were using quid i need some point of reference for better understanding. IE. quid/ pound, quid / dollar, quid /gold piece just some point of reference.
In terms of buying power, a "quid" is a GBP, or about 2 USD.
However, in the way that D is using it, I'd guess he's using it to mean "the local currency" and, as such, I'd expect 100 to be something along the lines of, oh, an offer of, say, 300k USD; enough to be a reasonable sum for a small community, but not really on par with what the job actually requires, and split across 5 people, is going to end up being fairly minimal pay.
The offer the Baron is adding to that is enough to make it reasonable, and the land is icing.
Darkmon, correct me if my assumptions are false, here.
You're not. I'm using british terms for the currency so people don't get too confused as to "why are they using dollars" or "how much is gold worth." Shillings and the like have been around for a long time, so while, relatisiticly their value has changed over the centuries, it's still a happy common ground everyone can sort of understand.
As far as how it relates to the current game, you can assume that, if people have pocket money, it's in shillings and pence. Most people on the day to day would never see a pound (quid), and most would only ever hope to make 50 to 100 pounds all years (and that's if they are doing well).
Of course, nobles make more than that.
so a quid is a measure of 1000 right? or in this case 1000 pounds. if that's right then it think i understand.
No. A "quid" is 1 pound.
In terms of buying power, however, it's worth a lot more in the society it's in. So the equivalent is probably approx 30k USD in today's money.
If we take the numbers I suggested, anyway.
Does that make sense?
yes i understand now. quid is another name for pound. 1=1 not 1=1000. thank you.
Yeah, it's slang. the RPG's quid would be approx 100 USD or so, as a fair estimate of it's value.
In the RPG, a shilling is closer to 1 buck or so.
So we rolling in Brittain now?
I hope not. I know some of the places there... ;-]
Quote from: Daimien on February 14, 2008, 01:37:30 PM
So we rolling in Brittain now?
Only kinda. Giving it a British feel instead of making EVERYTHING up allows for a bit of familiarity and a common point of reference. Locations, people, etc are, however, entirely fictional.
Alas. I'll probably be unable to take part in this adventure for this weekend. A reunion of men at arms ties my hands, so Armita will play a bit passive role in this game for a while.
Ain't we all.
Likewise, the DSL is remaining down for at least the weekend, and probably most of next week. Just to make life interesting.
It's fine. We're moving a slow, but fun pace, so I don't see any need to feel rushed. Come back when you're back, and I'm sure there'll be a place for ya.
Speaking of moving, I won't be able to post much for the next few days. Forced relocation and all..
Wow. That's three guys falling out for a few days...
Strange coincidence, huh?
i'll be here but until i can make a grand play and get noticed then i'll just be something of a readers guide as it were. currently about about a foot or two behind DFX or 28 a name that enigma may have hear the elf say i'm not sure. so i'll have to check again.
Aeo/Familyghost didn't say Twenty-Eight aloud, but DFX did when he was saying you could call him either DFX or Twenty-Eight.
I have a large clan raid this weekend, I'll be out of posting for a bit.
Heh, that makes four guys out of action...

Daimien, How much can Armita tell about the nature of the runes on Tarson's arm?
Unless he know alot about runes not a whole lot. Besides Tarson just showed them to let you know they are there. He covered them back up fairly quickly.
DFX knows a good deal about magic, enchantment, and runes, as he worked alongside his brothers and father in his superforge alot. He was a master wizard, and DFX is a bit of a mage himself. With on a quick glance though, all DFX would probably be able to tell is that Tarson's arm has something to do with lightning. It would take thourough examination and maybe some identification magic to fully ascertain all the magic in the arm.
I'd have to check the character sheets from home (I'm at work currently), to be able to tell you how much, and with what accuracy, you'd be able to learn from the runes, but I wouldn't completely rule it our either.
Okay, DFX does have a fair bit of Knowledge sight. It's buolt into the character sheet. If you wanted to give it a shot to see, I'd send you a PM of what you learned.
Hey Darkmoon, I got a bit of an idle question, just for clarification (more for other's benifit than mine). What Affinity does lightning/electricity magic fall under, Air or Fire? I've seen that it varies from universe to universe. Sometimes it is considered base Air, because lightning is associated with storms, which of course is Air. In other cases, electricity is base Fire, because it's seen as just another type of 'fire'.
How is it in your world?
I put lightning under Light, actually. In my eyes, it was much like lightbeams or the like. You could make an argument that air is as applicable, as it's the static discharge in the air that causes lightning, and, yes, I would credit you that.
It's the nice thing about a malleable magic system: you can have multiple ways to get similar results.
Apologies for keeping the Mime cooped up for a couple of weeks. As noted, lack of internet - and only having Internet at work - is not conducive to posting weird, strange RP happenings.

I figured there was a hayloft. Don't worry.
In case you're interested, D-moon (or anyone else), here's some technical data on the blast-spell that DFX had cast on himself to use.
The core spell draws its energy from the Fire Affinity, but jimmied with some Light to turn it from a simple ball of fire into something more cohesive with a bit of actual force instead of something that can only ignite things on average. However, it is still low-yield in terms of how much damage it can actually inflict. Of course, he also doesn't have the best aim in the world, so...
And on an entirely unrelated note, are you going to post anything going on at the farm that Bocks and the Mime are at? I've been wanting to see how they fare with their investigation.

er what? i'm not sure what you mean.
The GM supplies points for exceptionally good posts. Enigma, DFX, and Bocks all earned some.
Sometime soon, we'll learn what those points can be used for, which should prove interesting.
thank you very kindly llearch. i was completely lost.
They are like experience points, earned through the game for interesting, funny, and/or well played bits. When you're wanting to upgrade your character, you may spend your points on stats, skills, magic, etc to improve your character and allow them to grow (with more powers).
Soon enough, the first "session" will end, and everyone will gain a nice experience bonus before we move into the next leg of our journey.
Just to make sure, I'm not actually spending any experience towards improving DFX's magic sense at the moment, if any are required. He might not even be able to discern anything useful. If that is the case, the only reason he's trying to train is that is now a goal, and in his warforged mindset, if there is a goal, get it done.
Well, depending on what magic you wanted to upgrade, it'd take a lot of points, anyway. Magic is expensive in my game, but, it's capable of being learned by anyone. It's the trade-off.
It's not magic he's trying to learn, it's the ability to sense and detect magic innately, without using magic to identify magic. That he can already do (to a small degree). Am I making any sense?
He can alerady do that in a fairly decent sense, actually. If we want to get technical, he has the class power of "Know" which allows him to know details about things. You're at three out of five in know, which grants you a fair bit of information.
For those curious, it is always assumed that, when using "Know", the knowledge you gain back is probably from some research you did a while back, or random trivia gleaned during your travels, and all that information comes together right when you need it (ie, when you use the power).

Huh. That means I portrayed him as
less powerful in that than he actually is in that regard...
At the moment, in game, Armita is trying to animate few of the remaining bodies, mainly for the questioning and for extra muscle.
Questions for the Darkmoon:
1) Can he do this?
2) How many will he be able to animate?
You an animate them, but they won't have minds. They'll just be bodies.
I believe at your power level you can animate 12 of them for up to an hour (that's going from memory, since I don't have my book/notes available at work). Of course, if they take damage or such like, their rate of decay will be faster.
I will be out of town this weekend, but, luckily, you guys can run without me for a spell. If it gets boring and you need something to do, feel free to have a random encounter.
Just for the record: Armita has missed all the conversation made in few days. But I haven't.

Hmm, we have a character of part-demonic descent, and a Golem (to use D-Moon's terminology) who doesn't understand the fleshling concept of 'polite'...interesting xD
I'll get you guys to not want to follow my advice by the end of this yet. Just you wait.
you'll see. then again for me you're little more then a springboard to reach my own goals or so it would seem. and should you die i'm laying claim to your stone arm.
BTW familyghost, I don't actually expect Aeo to take up on DFX at this point (I know he was acting like a jerk; on my part that was deliberate, on DFX's he doesn't know the difference). In fact, RP-wise, it might be better if he didn't, because then IC that will lead to DFX asking why, and eventually communicating that he didn't mean anything, and maybe even going further to explain (to maybe even the whole party) how he and Tank actually work in their heads, so future misunderstandings can be avoided.

But yeah I planned on something like that as well as a few extra things I spotted in DFX's response to the party stopping.

Clearly, I've been reading, but not with my eyes open.
I'll have to edit that a lil' bit.
Points to Armita and DFX...
I really need to post something for the mime to do.
Ay yi yi! Slow down for a sec, can't DFX and Tank have a chance to speak for themselves in this regard?
no >:3
Gah. Finally done. Been working on it ever since five replies ago. Tank didn't even get to say,
"I've had enough fleshling on my back for one day."
like I was planning for him to. Had to keep re-editing a post that wasn't even completed after each new reply to add in something, or change it back in one or two cases. UGLAH.
Oh sorry. I don't know why but I figured Tarson would get mad about some of those comments. Bring back some bad times from his past.
Quote
the construct had a point and seemed disinclined to look beyoned the surface of his words...it was amusing to think that these entities could be bewildered but that might come in handy later on if he needed to do some fast talking to get something from them...
Ohhh, I can't wait for a chance to prove this wrong... >:3 See, normally DFX would be more than happy to look deeper into things, it is something he enjoys doing and something that he does often, if his highly complicated speech is any indication. The only reason he didn't right now is because this is the second time in quick succession that he has been bombarded with comments from everyone else left and right, and
now they have to get moving to keep up with Tarson. If it weren't for that, he probably would have been able to answer in much more detail. While he ususally is good at multitasking, this is a specific scenario he has not dealt with before,
but something that he and Tank both benefit from is exceptional memory and adaptability. Now that this has happened once, if it happens again, he will be much more prepared to cope with it.
Sorry, but you won't be tripping DFX up that easy... :mwaha
chuckles. indeed? but you seemed to have over looked part of Enigma's observation and he's just notes a possibility at the moment mind you. what you over looked was this

So...we've got two people thinking of DFX as Twenty-Eight now instead...two more and that will make it official.
EDIT:
BTW, what happened to llearch and Damaris? Darkmoon did make a responce for them (Eric's brandishing a crossbow at The Mime).
Damaris isn't very speedy at responding. I'm waiting on her.
Soon I'll stop waiting, and see what I can come up with.
Might be wise.
EDIT: FYI, I'll start the next bit of "adventure" tomorrow or so. I'm enjoying the conversation, so I don't want to spoil it yet.
Hey familyghost, I don't think that DFX or Tank have ever before referred to others of their kind before now, so that might be another interesting conversation hook; the fact that there [were] more constructs of a partially living kind like DFX and Tank. That would give them an opportunity to explain what happened to the rest and why ther are wandering around alone.
Of course, if D-moon does want to get moving sometime soon, we could drop that for a later conversation and just finish up the 'humor' things we have here.
Just a random thought.
I'll jump in when there's a lull. There hasn't been one yet.

It's a bloody time too. This thing is turning into a emoventure faster than you can slice your wrists open.
Well that's where your wrong. If you want to call it anything call it character development. Besides talking about one's past is alot different than complaining about something there is no reason to complain about. We're giving the characters something to do while waiting for the GM to get the time to figure out what's going on. It's what RPing is all about.
Oh, I know exactly what to do. Believe me, I know where this game is going for months into the future. I just perfer to GM in a very hands off kind of manner. If the characters are doing fine on their own, I'll let them run until they need my assistance.
it's one thing to have opinion and insight into this it's another to get all weepy and worry about something. enigma is being distracted from his only thoughts by the weeping of the elven paladin. it's not sitting well with him. that Tarson's would be father in-law has such power if mildly interesting but to her her weeping about love when Tarson has seemingly made his decision. Tarson does not seem to be the rash sort. Enigma get the feeling that he's someone that weighs his options and carefully considers what is the best way the approach a situation. while form Enigma's point of View Arie(did i spell the name right?) is all about fallowing the heart right now without truly considering the consequences of said actions.

Aire is someone who really cares. That's actually something I like to see. Don't bite off Azlan's head for that, unless your character would actually do that, though it would come across as being rather jerk-like.
So Tarson made his decision, and it probably was indeed a well-informed one. That doesn't make it any less sad or tragic, and that is something that a person like a faerie/elf paladin would be extreamly sensitive to.
well yes it is something he would / did do. Actually i wrote this post to explain why enigma responded to Aire the way he did an to try to say there were no hard feelings. not really. i wrote that post first . part of it was that he was being distract from what he would rater do and part of it was that Aire as much as she cares did not seem ready to let it go. he know that Tarson was probably hurting form the subject but it seemed to be going around in circles and was really starting to bother him while he wanted to think about something else. i can edit it to seem less harsh or Post a response once Enigma has calmed down and he will say that he knows that she cares but that this is probably not something that Tarson likes to talk about. looking at the ooc post again i really should have worded it better to make it clear that i was referring to enigma's point of view.
No, I think your IC post was a good one, and editing it absolutely not my decision, regardless of how I feel about it. But yes, it was your OOC post that came off as a little personally agressive (in the same basic track as Omega's earlier), from my point of view. But that's just me. I'm not really involved any part of this. I probably shouldn't be saying anything at all.
I had trouble reading the post... some things did not make sense, but I think I got the gist of it. I did not take his post as anything but what his character felt... I did not read e_v disapproving of Az, but of Enigma arguing with Aire.
If I was wrong, I'll apologize over your grave :P (kidding)
such humor and understanding makes that game more fun. and yes Azlan you read the post right despite the probably nightmareish grammar that i glimpse but i have not really slept so i'm not sure i could edit the ooc any better at the point form my lack of sleep. but some of the mistakes i saw when trying to see what tech was refer to where only when i meant to type own and her her when it should have been hear her. i do apologize for what was probably a bad reading experience to all involved.
I have sent a message to those people who's characters would have noticed something. Please check your PMs. If you didn't receive it, you didn't notice it.

sorry about that. and just to be honest i had no ideal what magic i was using just that i was planning on using an illusion to cover my retreat form the direct battle since i was here at the start of it and the illusion that i was putting up a magical shield (it's not really a shield there) seemed like a good ideal so long as the spell had a very limited duration.
The tactic itself it's biased almost entirely on deception making someone think that you're doing one thing while during another and i would have understood had you not allowed it. when i think about it it's like cast 2 illusion at once. the illusion of action and the illusion of absence and that complicates things doesn't it? i think i got the ideal form doctor wily in the mega man games.
It's an interesting spell, so I allowed it. But it would use Light magic, which your character isn't strong in. So certainly the illusion won't last long, and could easily be dispelled.

I honestly don't know what you're talking about. I just like throwing out giant spiders...
Darn. Especially since you said how some of them didn't even originate from the same world, I was gonna make some crack about how the ogre and the spider survived Thor's almighty laser blast.

Oh, erm, I was working on a post this morning, but didn't finish it... I'll wrangle something up now.
On another note, neither Damaris nor llearch have posted in an entire page at least, llearch almost two, Damaris even more so. This is because Damaris hasn't posted? Is she still in the game? I like her Mime character :3
there is nothing for me to do but hide and listen and you can only say that so many ways. unless you or on the the others catch my attention then i'll been here watching and waiting. now is some ones sees me or ask about me i'll have to revel my self i'm currently hiding in the shadows a few dozen feet form Tarson. i believe the x constructs can still see me as i'm not using magic and haven been since before we were invited to the camp do you want me to do some thing? the fact that the Giant woke up here gives me nothing to go on. at lease with in my own experiences of games like this after all our group was woke and i doubt that sleep spells would work the same on the constructs as they would myself and many of the others.
Aaaand got it up. To be honest, out of character I really don't think you're going to let it work like that, but in character that is the first solution DFX would try.
I've been waiting on Damaris. :-/
I know. You may just have to try posting without her, man.
EDIT: DFX and Engima are on a good track. I'm not going to step in to shoot it down.

That is for DM to determine, I am just trying to go as far as I can sense... I doubt she can stretch to every corner of the globe.
I think Aire's ability/spell is some what similar to what Armita just proposed, only that they'll draw their power from the very opposite ends of the same thread. While she, if I'm guessing correctly, listens the nature and all living things, Armita will gather all the dead and darkness, every that's been casted to the ground, every leaf that's fallen to the ground and rotted
all that sounds good to me but as you said it's the DM's call and now i'm worried that the DM (or is it GM?) is debating weather or not Tarson is is for some nasty backlash for his spell attempt.
I am just awaiting a post, so I can put up Aire's results of her investigations.
Because I am curious, I have to ask; how did you get all that information, Azlan? Did Darkmoon send you a PM or something? And how was your charcater powerful enough to reach out seventeen miles?
Just asking.

I inquired in PMs to DM and information was obtained from him. How my character did it and how powerful she is, is not your concern or business. I will say that I merely explain what and how she is doing it and DM provides the results.

Sorry, I sort of fell off the face of the forum there for a bit. Things have been busy, and then I sort of forgot that the bottom half of the forum existed. My fault there.
I'm not going to write a new post from work, but I have my browser open as a reminder at home, and I'll whip something up late tonight (before I do CVRPG), after my tattoo session... so probably about 10, 10:30 or so.

That said, the air is crisp and cool, and there does seem to be a hint of adventure on the air.
On a whimsical note, I have seen this literary device used so often... but what exactly is a "hint of adventure"? Is it an odd smell... a strange wind... gas... :P
It's a little oregano and thyme on the air, to give it that light, tangy aroma. Underneath the smell, is the faint odor of blood and copper (fighting and money).
i hope that my post is okay for the rp. since enigma is sleep and everyone is mitering around i thought a little insight into his sleep and it being restless would help. it will also show why enigma sleeps so sparingly in the rp.
I'll let the posting go until tomorrow, then jump forward to the morning and give you your options.
Unless you want me to jump in here, I'm apt to let you guys keep talking.
i'm wonder where did everyone go?
I haven't gone anywhere. I just can't think of anything useful for my chars to do right now.
i think Dmoon is waiting for everyone to wake up and put one a little make up to hide the scars ... er no i mean i think he's just waiting on everyone to post.
Well, the two are talking about their plans, but they haven't actually _done_ anything, so I can't really force their hand here.
Did this die?
i'm waiting for them to continue their conversation before i speak up as enigma. eavesdropping is well enough but i want to have some say in the actions that my get me killed.
FYI, I think right now you may be the only players. You may as well start off on whatever mission you decide now. If others join back up (or just join up) later, we can work them in.
Also, point to Tarson for taking the leadership roles and doing so honorably.
(prod) Okay, you guys have to tell me what you're doing...
Just a notice to all the RPs I'm in, my primary internet source has been cut off due to a RL problem completely unrelated to me and out of my control. While I still have access to a computer and internet, it will be very limited for the foreseeable future, and my activity here on CMF will be greatly reduced. However, I will still be here. I do not know when I will have full access restored, if at all.
But I'm still in.
...Where did everybody go? :<
I dunno. I'm waiting for them to show up.
i too am waiting for responses.
i supposes that either i or Alzan could push for the four of us the continue leaving someone behind to deal with the sleeping but i would rather it not be enigma
Well I've already posted so I'm pretty much waiting for you people to figure things out. Once something happens I can respond to I will.
I actually have something I was going to work out with Aire about how we are going to go about finding the energy concentrations, but Tarson clearly said to wait on plan stuff until everyone else is awake, and DFX is not about to not follow an imperative from the one he (and everyone else) has been pushing to take charge.
In that case, correct me if I'm wrong, I think we're waiting on familyghost to wake Aeo up.
Well, fuck it. Everyone is now awake or dead. Moving on...
I haven't been getting any notifications lately(except a few PMs) so I thought it was dead. I'll be posting asap just let me read to catch up.
Groovy. One less dead person.
yays! I is not dead! Although my posting may be a bit slow. Getting back into WoW. Just let me know if I need to pick up the pace.
Well, as far as I can tell, that's everyone who's still in;
techmaster/DFX-Tank
Daimien/Tarson
e-voyager/Enigma
Azlan/Aire
familyghost/Aeo
Omega/Armita dropped out, and llearch/Bocks and Damaris/Mime were left at the farm when Damaris went inactive :/
If there's any possibility of nudging those two back in, D-moon, and having them pick up where they left off, that would be excellent :)
Anyways, ima go ahead and post my bit.
Wait...oh dang, I need to know something. About how far can a person travel in a day, walking?
EDIT: ah, nevermind.
Just to let people know, I'm back. Sorry for the long absence, I'll post something soon.
In case you don't remember me...
I'm Alcir, the undead mage.
I'm glad to see we're finally picking up some steam again.
Now I just need you guys to pick a direction so we can get this story moving. ;)

I'm glad to see we're finally picking up some steam again.
Oh yeah, I need steam
Feel the steam all around me
Ah you're turning up the heat
When I start to dream aloud
See you move your hands and feet
Won't you step into this cloud of steam
This steam
some times you scare me and it's not easy to scare someone who's scripted their own demise more then once.
Omega wanted to join back up, so I'll give him til tomorrow night to post a replay (as well as Aire, of course), and then I'll layout the terrain for the next bit of the adventure.
Good to be back.
The spell that Armita used was, or was part of, is some what transportation spell through the ground. Now, I took a liberty of assuming that the spot where he spawned wasn't a stone plated road, but a hard dirt soil.
Good to have you back, Omega.
I gave a bit of the what-and-how for now. You do your walking thing, and I'll chime in as needed.
Hello everyone!
While I'm waiting for another thread to get up and going, I figured I'd peddle around elsewhere, and I like the looks of this one. ^_^
To keep myself from becoming horrendously confused across the many forums I participate em, I'm going to use the same character for much of this forum, so here's a slightly more mature Mal!
Name: Malcurth Snowfur
Race: Snow Leopard Incubus
Class: Sorcerer
Gender: Male
Age: 250
Height: 5'10
Appearance/Coloration: Predominately white fur with teal circlets adoring his back and his tail. Teal paws and feet, with stripes around his eyes and muzzle of the same color. His hair, which seems to go every which way in a stubborn 'circle of blades' style, also has natural highlights. His wings also carry the same coloration on the crests and underfeathers. His eyes, however, are a distinct, blazing, amber color.
His clan symbol is on his right thigh, frontal portion. It is a dark blue shield with a single, solid circle in the middle which is surrounded by etched lines heading out to the edge of the shield symbol.
He is usually dressed in a light, dark purple, traveling robe, with simple and functional cotton clothing underneath, although if he is truly expecting trouble, he may opt to wear a chain shirt underneath the robe as well. He often carriers an adventuring backpack, and is apt to conceal a dagger or two on his person. Always "Just in case." he says. A final item of note is his necklace, which carries his mother's symbol beneath the coat of arms for the amazon kingdom. It will identify him as a friend and ally to any amazons who may encounter him
Personality: He is usually a quiet and reserved character, preferring to observe carefully before acting or speaking, although he does have his more passion-driven moments if the proper elements are in place. His loyalty, although often hard to earn, knows no bounds, and he never wavers from an equally faithful friend, which has led him to having more than a few life-long allies and friends. At times, he may become strained and high-strung, which could lead to a snappish attitude, but he is not one to linger in anger, and usually returns to his calmer state quite quickly.
History: The brief union of a prominent amazon warrior and an unwitting incubus was the event that begetted Malcurth. Malcurth has known little to nothing about his father, and his clan still remains a mystery, but he really doesn't care much at all, for his mother was more than a sufficient parent, caring for her only child quite a lot. Malcurth was raised in the core of the amazon territories, where he enjoyed a quiet and prosperous life as a merchant, peddling in magical odds and ends, and spell components. While he sometimes wandered outside of the bounds of amazon territory, he spent most of his youth in the primelands, up until his sorcererous abilities began to manifest and his more prominent cubi traits also began to appear. Everyone close to him had always known of his quasi-demon heritage, but as word spread, the rest of the cubi society heard of him as well, and it was not long before he was approached about attending the academy. Although reluctant at first, he agreed after a particular incident sparked what seemed to be a hidden talent of his, and that gaining control of this power would be vital to the safety of himself and everyone aorund him. He made it very clear, however, that he is loyal to his original family, the amazons, first, and his new family, the cubi race, second.
He spent roughly a century in the academy as a bit of a curious recluse, focusing almost entirely on his own development instead of the social madness that is known to infest the academy, despite some strange rumors concerning his clan. Apparently, they were very prominent at one point, but Malcurth paid little or no attention to this, as his father's side did not interest him beyond what power it could offer. However, some cubi have shadowed him for a time, either hoping to gain some of his clan's old power, or believing that old relations, be they good or less than good, still hold. But Malcurth's original standing on his cubi heritage remains firm, and he usually brushes off such approaches, or outright kills the more violent ones. Sadly, this does not seem to deter most, and actually irks some on even more.
After his time in the academy, he first began to tag along with wandering groups of amazon warriors, lending his paw in help by acting as the more destructive aspect of the party in the case of confrontation, or using his considerable mercantile base to further the party's needs. After a while he eventually turned to being hired on by other adventuring parties, and continued to develop his abilities even further in the field. Soon enough, however, he began to hear tales of a small town tuned into a battleground, and he began to set his wandering path towards the place of so many troubles..
Abilities/Skills: His cubi abilities are fairly run of the mill, having the ability to shapeshift (something he very rarely does beyond concealing both sets of wings) and block out psionic intrusion, although he is yet to get the hang of teleportation, something that remains very erratic, often dropping him a good twenty feet from where he meant to be. This is perhaps because he prefers to focus on his powers as a sorcerer first and cubi second. His abilities as a sorcerer are quite a bit more developed, to the point where he can shape and warp his spells to swing around friends and allies, and strike at enemies with deadly aim. He's definitely not the 'blow everything up' type of sorcerer, he is more along the lines of a tactical nuke sort of mage. And after his particular talent manifested itself as the ability to wield demonfire (see strengths/weaknesses), this amount of control would become very, very important.
He has also developed a slight healing ability, and whether this teams from his sorcererous powers or his cubi heritage is still a bit of a mystery, although most opt for the later. He can mends fairly serious wounds, but a mission limb or part is beyond his ability.
His days as a merchant have granted him an uncanny skill in bartering, and he can usually get even the most sturbbern of clients to see things his way when money is at stake.
Also, he has picked up some ground fighting skill during his travels with the amazons. How he picked up such fighting styles while traveling with packs of warrior women has been a source of much debate and laughter at many a pub, but regardless, many that get too close to this sorcerer often suffer a painful revelation. He is by no means a match for a monk or a full-blown fighter, but he can certainly surprise the unwary with his firsts, claws, or even the occasional dagger.
And, strange as it is, he can cook. Quite well. Rumors abound as to where he picked up this unusual talent, but it seems to actually have come from the cubi academy, oddly enough.
Strengths: Malcurth has a excellent grip on the element of fire. He is capable of producing flames practically at will, and can enhance or smother them just as easily. Any spell involving fire comes to him easily, and he has, one more than one occasion, merely obliterated an attacking force with a hail of fireballs. But it only gets better, for as much fire as he can put out, he can control it just as well. He can divert a gout of flame around an ally to strike the enemy on the other side, and even wade through his own flames without fear of being burnt. He has always prided himself in this balance of power and control over his sorcerous abilities. but even all of this pales in comparison to the sheer power that his innate talent brings to bear, the art of demonfire.
Demonfire in itself is a terrible hybrid of normal flame and infernal desire. Demonfire does not need air or fuel to burn, it merely burns. And that is to say it burns a lot. As in it will burn anything. Wood, metal, flesh, it will even sit on the surface of water, or, if forced beneath the water, it will float about as a ball of infernal flame. That is yet another terrifying trait of demonfire is that it is impossible to put out by any non-magical means. It can be crushed, smothered, doused in any liquid imaginable, but it will only continue to burn, more than likely catching flame to whatever happens to be trying to put it out. But it only gets worse. The next horrible fact of demonfire is the fact that it spreads. And not like a normal blaze either, it literally creeps everywhere. It has been noted to move against the wind, and burn both up and down any place it catches, although it does seem to obey the laws of physics, ie, gravity.
In a nutshell, demonfire is very bad mojo.
Demonfire appears like normal fire, to an extent. It has black flames, and gives off a very soft and eerie purple light. It also seems like fire moving in slow motion with long tendrils of flame weaving through the air. Many have debated whether or not demonfire possesses a small, evil intelligence, noting the way it seems to move across surfaces as if they were slicked in oil, or the way it stubbornly sticks to living beings, but no one wants to study it long enough to find out. No one wants to be close to demonfire, period. Not even Malcurth, which will be continued in the weakness section.
Weaknesses: Although he is a very well-rounded fellow, having a variety of skills that can be helpful in a variety of situations, Malcurth does have a few quirks here and there. For example, although he can preform all of the simpler arcane spells, his focus on fire has left him lacking in the other elements, in particular wind and water. He has barely any grasp on these two elements whatsoever, and only a very weak grasp on the others.
Also, for all of its power, demonfire has an equal number of drawbacks. For one, unlike his precision control over normal flame, demonfire is by its very nature very chaotic and unruly, often billowing out in much more or less than Malcurth originally intended. Secondly, while Malcurth could likely toss fire all day long, demonfire very rapidly saps his mana supply. Also, there is the great difficulty in extinguishing the flames themselves. Holy water acts as normal water does to normal fire to demonfire, or a strong dispel magic effect can be applied. There are a variety of other magical means to put it out, but the only means that Malcurth has available to him is by cutting off its source, which means severing his own mana stream temporarily, and while this may snuff out demonfire very quickly, it also leaves him very disoriented and nauseated, and he can forget about casting any spells whatsoever for a brief time. All in all, Malcurth prefers to keep this deadly talent of his in reserve, only using it if absolutely necessary.
Also, he outright refuses to us it in any civilized area, dreading what may happen if the fire got loose in a city or a town..
He will never harm an amazon, unless he himself is threatened, and he will also always assist any amazon he comes across.
I'll get your character setup in a bit. I'll have to play with him some, since there's the risk of him being overpowered in comparison to the other characters (as he is currently written).
Feel free to start playing him now. I'll write an intro for you. We'll avoid combat for the next bit until I have your character sheet ready.
Whew! Thanks!
Uh, let me know if there's anything wrong with that initial post.. I tried to include all members of the party, but being the absent-minded ijit that I am, I'm prone to bouts of retard syndrome. XD
Ghostwish, you are now on my list. Of people I really, REALLY like. The whole intro post was very good, but your description of my characters...absolutely beautiful. You have made my day :mowhappy
As for getting everyone I think you did, except there's something odd at the end;
Quote
There was a human in the group, who seemed ordinary enough, but there was also an elf.. or sorts. She certainly had an interesting heritage, judging by the odd hair color, and Malcurth quietly snorted to himself as he found himself acting the role of a hypocrite again, before letting his eyes linger on the last fellow a moment, the one in the black hood.. He.. looked human.. but something about him was just a little.. off.. Malcurth couldn't put his paw on it, not yet, but there was something about that one.
The "ordinary enough" human, that's Enigma, right? E-Voyager's 'shopkeeper' guy? And the guy in the hood is Pagan's undead Alcir?
Oh, and by the way Darkmoon, since we got a new guy in, I've got an updated character index we can use:

Hehehehe! Well hey! Your characters were the most distinctive in the group! I was just telling it from malcurth's point of view,so, yah know, the less they stood out.. And a little paranoia is natural for cubi. ;)
But jah, you guessed right. Hope I wasn't too vague. ;)
I understood well enough. There's only one completely human adult in the party and "a bit off" seems to describe undead well enough in this game. So who's going to play ambassador?
Quote from: Pagan on July 23, 2008, 08:54:28 PM
So who's going to play ambassador?
DFX would probably just start theorizing about the possibilities and (im)probabilities of anthropomorphic fleshlings, how they would work, and how this guy even got here (though he might do all this anyway), and Tank is...um...well...yeah :B
.....................................................................
Mal just dropped into a world that doesn't contain furries, didn't he?
That does it, cubi boy, no more teleporting for you.
That's one thing I was wondering, why you weren't completely freaked that we most of us were humanish.
I was aware this world had humans, and that it wasn't exactly 'DMFA setting', but it had not occurred to me that they were no furs...
Hrm.. should I modify, or leave as is?? Decisions, decisions..

Well, depends on what is most in-character. Mal is from a world with furries only, and humans are a myth. He doesn't know where he is now, but he has seen two very large constructs and several human(ish) people (The only real problem I can see is he probably shouldn't know what an elf even is, all he knows is it's a pointy-eared human), and so far, no other anthros.
In this situation, how would your character react?
Nuke them all and then nuke them again.
.... whaddaya mean I can't be black mage? Ugh, fine.
Hrm, well, what do you say? Humanized or unhumanized Mal? I could go either way.. and it wouldn't be TOO hard for me to modify it. So, I'll leave it up to the others. Me, I'm impartial, I could play it either way...
(of course, the original malcurth was a human in a previous life, sooooo.... :P)
Well, I don't think there's any reason to change your character (if the GM would even let you do that at this point, he might not), and in fact, I think an anthro would add even more oddliness to our odd group. But either way, it definitely isn't my decision.
Besides, there might not even be any need for a change at all. Your character could just be the kind of guy who's, "Oh. I'm in a human world. Wonderful. Now gimme directions back home, please." When I asked, "how would your character react?" I did mean that in an open way, not a self-explanatory one. Your guy could indeed be a level-headed person, or he could be freaking out. That's all i'm saying. If you think an edit is warranted to change Mal's initial attitude, then that's all you. I don't know what your character would be doing, you do.
Allright, I'm going to go ahead and modify it. I can probably just poke a para here and there. Give me a moment..
All done, now open fire! :D
Hey D-Moon just so I know, did Aeo's "Hulk Out" ability make it through to the game and if so how do you want it played under your control or under mine?
I didn't remember that he had a hulk out maneuver... I don't know...
How would you like to play it?
He does, it's under his powers and it only occurs when he's near death or has the lives of friends threatened and then he essentially turns into a lesser demon that resembles a balor. And I could do it no problem as it is a mindless beast that would attack damn near anything even friends.
Sounds okay. We'll see if it ever comes to it.
'Course, I figure if anyone went scrying Malcurth powerfully enough, they'd go and find out he's shapeshifted too. But I'll leave that up to Darkmoon to decide, as mallets are painful and my skull is quite squishy. ;)
Damien: You've never established that you were from the far north, or, to be fair, from places that are likely have either leopards or snow leopards. You may want to rewrite your last post a touch...
Zoos or books? Standard leopards are seen in jungles and other hotter climates, maybe he just surmised through the white fur? ^^
This is the middle ages. Paper was incredibly expensive and rare.
... mostly because it had to be hand-made by skilled artisans.
At 2-3 hours per sheet of paper, and 5 years training to make it, it's not like these days. Heck, IIRC, papyrus was cheaper, and even that was "rich people only" territory...
Rock carvings! XD
I'll post something up tonight if no one else adds anything new.
Duuu eeettt!!! :D
[but please don't blow Malcurth's cover in the very first encounter. pleeessseeezzz??? XD]
Edit2 - You tease! :<
well the gm has my character ideals so we'll see where it goes form there.
Hahaha, I forgot I was supposed to do that... Ooops.
(goes to post)
I'm not in the writing mood tonight. I'll post in this tomorrow.
:mowsad He no loves us.
I'm sending Tarson a PM about what's going on where he's at.
Seeing as I have the last post in the thread. I'm gonna wait for someone else to post so it will be a seperate action.
Or, you may converse with me via PMs until your separate actions are over.

It was either Tank or Tarson, and, honestly, I figured Tarson would have an easier time healing from it.
DAMMIT. I was JUST about to post, and Tank would have been wrestling with it. I thought the thing might have acid...
And i've still got my post, even though I probably don't need it anymore...I leave home for a day and miss everything.

Well if it hits mostly on the stone I maybe ok. If not the group might need a new leader.
Always a silver lining, eh?
EDIT: Oh, and I'll wait a bit before I respond, in case anyone else wants to beat on it.
Maybe you'll get lucky and the adventurer who's actually several centuries old might have learned a thing or two about acid burns? ;)
i'm, too far away and not listening to a story that is not being told.
.. Well, I was talking about the disguised incubus, but okay! Sing away. :P
Who knew Mal had the robes of plot convenience.
Darkmoon, can the second part of the group hear or see anything from where we are that might tell us the others need out help?
Sure, why not.

Hell, you should see what he can do with his boxers. :erk
Ah, it's nice to be able to bat players around...
Staggers around drunk "You fell for it! HAHAHA! I can't believe you fell for it"
.......Wait I fell for it.....
Oh well I'll kill what I can. Looks like the group will need a new leader. Aire take over for the leader of the group. I'm sure they will follow you.
Aren't we just a bubbly little pot of optimism? :mowcookie
Eh I'm more of a realist. It's what I do. Besides every RP need dramatic flair.
well Arie beat me to the punch with her healing magic. i had some healing potions in that i didn't even really were there/ ah well moot point now.
Unfortunately Aire will not be leaving... she can't abandon anyone...
Some leader I am. No one listens to me.
Nor can Mal. Now someone hurry up and post. :P
i hope my staffs works. a water staff sending a wave ( albeit a small one) into the group of spider should make Tarson's attacks more effective.
I don't see the post..?
you ninjad me. would you like to see it it's here
Enigma shook his head at the foolishness. jumping down he can to a stop behind Tarson and he pulled out his water staff ready. "i really should have practiced more with water magic." he grumbled as he concentrated and and pointed it down the and sent for it's magic. "the itsy bitsy spiders" he singsong though the spiders were anything but itsy bitsy.
:mowninja
Actually, it was more of a quickshot.. I had started the post as a thought as to how Mal would get Tarson out, but then held off, realizing I had psoted right before Tarson had.. but when Aire called for the kitty, well, I jumped on it like a western ninja or something. ^^;
ninjad and reninjad
Where's the dead ninja emoticon... :P
I go sleep now.
:sleep
So... what about the voice down the tunnel?
... f'em if they can't take a joke? ;-]
i would have help find if as i love to unravel mysteries but before i could get into the tunnel they had pulled the leader out of it and well i'm not keen on the idea of an acid bath while facing huge spiders.
Well I figured the voice was dead. Ya know cause of the screaming and the spiders.
I certainly would try to help, but my characters still don't like random fleshlings, and don't much care if one dies :cry
So, since the probability of either of them going in to help the voice are near nil, I need to figure out what they are going to do...
EDIT: eh, that'll work.
Curse the one week where I'm nowhere near peak posting capacity, the whole Ballroom goes abuzz with activity. I'm missing everything. >(
with 12 to 15 hours of the the house trust me i know about it. i leave the home every day at 10:50 and returns around 12 am some times as lat as 1:30 the next day. on a good day i'll get home before midnight but that doesn't happen often.
Sorry, I've been a bit occupied elsewhere. I try to get on with the story now.
Edit: What Armita tries to do now, is to detect if there are any dead down the hole, corpeses, spirits, wraiths, gouls, liches etc.
Heh. Ghostwish, while I'm not going to argue, I will say that on-the-fly enchantments is supposed to be DFX's shtick, since he can't actually sling spells around like the rest of you.

Okay. I'll take a stab at it tomorrow. It's late now, and I don't feel as vindictive as I should. More carnage is possible if I'm more awake.
:mwaha
chuckles. let you all fight and die if you must die i'll collect your information and try to escape with my life and more magical items like the stone arm of the leader tarson. not that i expect any of you to give it less then you all to survive.
... I can be vindictive, if you need help...
bad boxy bad. don't temp the GM.
Darkmoon, you ass. It WAS a lure all along?

i thought that might be the case but knowledge is very important to me i gather it and horde it like a dragon it's trinkets.

Uh... duh.
Question: have these zombie-spiders formed up in front of Tank, or behind him and the group?
I'm thinking it's on him. Great just great, I justed risked the lives of my friends thinkin this pain in the ass needed to be saved.

Waving her hands around, the various spider bits (that weren't complete goo) started to merge back together, creating a rather large collection of undead spiders.
There's more than one. And I seriously doubt they've dog-piled him. That would be bad for Miss Arachnomancer.

alone :P
Ok that makes sense. If you remeber Tarson told you all to leave in the first place. Tarson had planed to go it alone, but now it's starting to look like it was all for nothing anyway. Tarson thought he may have found that farmers daughter. Guess I was wrong.
They are spread all over.
Edit: Bats his players around a bit more.
Now Tarson is mad.
I won't be on much for the next day or two.
Death in the family so we got a wake and funeral to go to.

I'm starting to feel that this attitude is not contained entirely in character where it belongs. We are not all weak, defenseless liabilities that need protecting. Unfortunately, no one is truly playing any support characters... except the guy trying to play most of the angles with two characters.
We are stacked with AOE/Nukers/Controllers of various specialties and a couple of tanks/bricks/guardians... or whatever they are called in the common game parlance.
Let's stop talking about who is putting who in danger and who thinks it's their job to engage in all the battles alone. Let us address the encounter.
Well, that's part of the reason why I keep escalating things. We have too many tanks.
EDIT: Oh, and Tarson, if you're trying to get to the golem's chem so you can remove it, it's not stored in the head.
my character was built not to be a tank but to be a low level in love with himself ever so slightly nosey tool wilder. as the the jar he's looking for it would / will be a normal jar the kind you can store drinking water in and he plans to collect some of miss spider mancer for study should tank succeed in destroying her. in fact i doubt that my character could win in a direct conflict with any of the others. he has some self defense skills but really isn't much of an attack unless attacking the unwary form the shadows like with the goblins or using one of his 'any body can use this it's so great' magic tools ie the reason why he was using the water staff. even his tools are limited and so is his normal magic use primarily for escape and flare to sell his items.

His what now? Tarson was just attacking cause he is getting annoyed. Also I don't consider Tarson a tank. It's more of how I tend to play as a leader. Told you guys I shouldn't be leader.
His chem. They words that control a golem and give it life...
Nevermind...
Heh. _I_ knew what it was.
Words are important.
i'm sure many of us who remember a famous golem story know what they are ah well off to read the thread.
Armita tries to control many of the undead spiders and even the golem too. Is that too muchfor his powers?
You're not going to be able to control the spiders, but you can try to cancel them out.
You;re not going to be able to control the golem at all.
...Do I need to make the next move?
I'm still debating whether or not you will actually let me get away with turning Miss Arachnomancer to a paste. Literally. In character, Tank'll do it right away, but out of character, I'm deathly scared of getting burned for eliminating our current antagonist NPC so easily.
I thought you'd at least make her escape from Tank's shoulder. You haven't really been controlling our adversaries very much, and just leaving us up to our own RP devices to fight our enemies. Like I said, I'm afraid of overstepping a boundry.
But, if she is dealt with, I am looking forward to writing in a good wrestling scene with the golemspider :3
My own worry too. Malcurth could go and scorch her face away, but that seems too easy. Was wondering if she would try to escape or erect a defense or something.
Well, this is where we need to figure a bit out. I want you to be able to attack her, but I don't want you to kill her until she is dead.
If you want, you can PM me your line of thought, and I can tell you what will happen, so that, when you post, you can post an appropriate set of steps.
Well, it is actually quite simple. Tank is holding her on his shoulder. All Tank has to do is toss her to the ground and mushify her with his greathammer. He doesn't even have to do it quickly. Hell, he doesn't even have to do that. He could just squeeze her.
Basically, at this point, unless she is some sort of uber-athelete we haven't seen yet, has some kind of teleportation, or posesses some other equaly incredible escape artist skills, she doesn't have a prayer. She is completely at Tank's mercy (of which he has none).
Then again, all the spiders (including the golem), could rush Tank immediately, in which case you will have to post the next action. He will be rather distracted then, which might provide her a means of escape.
I've just waited to see if my attack actuallu hit or if the golem did something to Tarson. Like hit him when he is going in for the attack.
Oh, I just figured you'd get bored waiting and hit it with something else instead.
Well I feel like an idiot not. One for the obivious reason of attacking stone with a sword. Two is the golem never actually made any agression towards the party. It was just the undead woman telling us where the ones who need help. Remind me if I survive this battle to cut her head off, unless Tank smushes her.
The stone hand makes much more sense.
Ahhh, Legend of Zelda. So many ideas I can steal from you.
"Now stay down!" ?
You're not dead Tarson. You still have that electroshock thinger.
Soo...what's going to happen with Tank and Miss A? He's been told to destroy her, which he will gladly do at this point. But it has been established that you don't want that (yet). So, how is she going to get out of being converted to red glue? Will you have the spider-army rush Tank, like I suggested? That will give her an opening to escape. Or should I just write it myself?
Quote from: Darkmoon on August 24, 2008, 03:42:25 PM
You're not dead Tarson. You still have that electroshock thinger.
It's stone what is shocking gonna do to it. Plus he wants to see what it's gonna do next.
Well, the second you start to apply pressure on her, the rock golem is going to be on you. For now, it's distracted by Tarson.
It's your call as to how to handle it. Just realize that if you do squeeze her, you will be swamped by ever spider beast in the cave.
Great now I'm gonna second guess everything Tarson does.
Quote
The zombie queen shouted, before she melted into mist and started floating off in the direction of the cave entrance.
Now
that's the kind of ability I was talking about earlier, one that would allow her to escape Tank's grasp. The problem on my end was that I did not know that she had anything like that, and even though I asked several times, you gave no indication she did. Thus, if I had posted, I would have just had Tank paste her in seconds, because that's how bad of a position she was in (Tank wouldn't waste any time), and go with the assumption that there was no way she could get out of it. But since you said you
didn't want her killed right away, I couldn't post something like that, and therefore I was left hanging.
But, now that this is resolved anyway, I can now get Tank to come back with a vengeance >:3
Well, until i wrote it, I didn't know she had it. I'm just flaying by the seat of my pants, here.
Now that I look at it, I think we're going at this ass-backwards.. Maybe we should just throw everything we've got at the challenges we face, and let darkmoon do all the paperwork? :P
sorry to be so slow but i just worked 30 hours since 8 am Saturday. i hope to catch up Tuesday but for now i go night night. initiating recovery mode.
Ghostwish: You already killed the undead girl when you caught her mist form on fire.
Oh... uhm.. Aeo did that. XD I was assuming she was just running away while on fire. No corpse no death, eh?
Big gaseous explosion.
FIND THE CORPSE AND EAT IT. XD
Disregard my post then. I'll edit it out and come up with a new action later.
Will do.
Ghostwish: Counter magic. Nice.
So I guess Aire missed, though it isn't obvious...
Let me know when I am needed or wanted back into this RP, I'll be out until then.
You didn't miss. I just didn't want to overwrite whatever else you were planning.
Quote from: Darkmoon on August 27, 2008, 05:34:02 PM

Wasn't planning anything specifically, it just seemed that it had been skipped when I saw your response. It made me assume a miss, as I wasn't sure if her weapon could damage the thing. That is cleared up now.
When you say a spray of webbing glistening like diamonds, are you implying a tangle of web or a buckshot of web bits? With the glistening and diamond comment are you implying it is sticky and glossy or hard and crystaline?
It's a spray of webbing. It'd be somewhat springy (if you weighed a few tons), for still seem impossibly hard and crystalline to meat-bags.
Do we need me to post again?
yes!.
Right.
I'll be going now, remember? The military exercise starts soon. Can't write anything for a while. Armita gets stuck underground thanks to his ground-to-ground teleportation spell, or something. I'll be back (hopefully) 10th day.
good luck and take care.
I will post in this later, unless someone else does.
First person to post is the one who got tossed. Second person to post is the one who's -about- to be tossed (depending on what you post; you could move out of the way, or let Tank do his thing)
;)
well you grabbed me but if you throw me i don't know if you'll stop before throwing me or if the gm will let me find the shield charm i was trying to sell earlier.
Well well, Miss Arachnomancer didn't die after all. Looks like everyone else has no choice but to take the BRT Express as well to get up there quick enough to fend her off >:3
say GM did i find my shield charm or am i in for a headache?
It doesn't really matter. Your 'fall', as it were, was only a three-maybe-four-foot drop. Nothing to get a headache over, unless your character is really that delicate.
But if it makes you happy, yes, you had plenty of time from when you yelled stop to when Tank actually threw you( because he was listening to malcurth's rant) to grab a charm from your pocket.
Wait, what? "Not the most physical of people?" Did Aeo teleport or phase himself up to the top or something? I'm confused :confused
Aire is talking to the earth and asking its spirits to allow her passage... up to Darkmoon whether it would acknowledge her as she is only a half-breed.

think rolling shield form X 1 and you'll know where i am. and no the shield is not invincible. weak enemies attacks are a nuance but a strong attacks like Tarson or Arie's would dis able it quickly enough. in fact i doubt it would last past more then two of the spider killing spell. and even then i i can't invoke it endlessly
...Has anyone seen Pagan? Once Tank propels Tarson up, Alcir will be the only one left, and he hasn't posted since the last page...
You guys have been doing a good job of killing off the spiders in an action-y fashion. I can step in, or you can continue until you feel like you've killed them all. Your call.
at this point i want the spider queen. put her in a jar and dissect her for the next few centuries just to get even with her for so many acid spitting zombies. talke about a killer queen
Looks like Tank's just gonna have to leave without Pagan's Alcir for now, cuz I haven't got into the action yet. And even if Tank does, nothing really spectacular is going to happen. If the spiders can't spit acid anymore, he can simply trample them underfoot. However, if the big golemspider resurfaces, I can try for a wrestling scene >:3
However, I can't take care of this now, I've got some HUGE work to do today :<
The spiders can shoot acid, but it's not as if I'm going to purposefully kill you all at this juncture.
The spider queen, for the time being, is gone.
so no queen in a jar :(
Not yet. ;)
Nope.
I'm gonna let it slide for another couple of days, since Tech is away currently, and then I'll just jump in and wrap up this little bit and kick you guys towards the next goal if there's no activity.
Actually, it was just Sunday that I had a lot of work to do, and today my access was limited.
If I can't get in a post now, I'll certainly try for tomorrow.
Groovy.
... they have Boomsticks, now?
Twelve-gauge double-barreled Remington. S-Mart's top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about a hundred and nine, ninety five. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right, shop smart, shop S-Mart. You got that?
Points to Azlan.

Okay... I'm gonna be honest, I don't know what to do here. You've written it in such a way that it sound like you guys are going to discuss your next plan... but there's no plan for me to direct you to.
I'm waiting for eveyone else to start moving. It's already been established we need to get the heck out of Dodge, but no one's actually gotten up and made a break for it yet.

EDIT: And btw, I think the spiders are pretty much gone...for now.
thats good. i don't think the equine relief ever made it to us so if tank doesn't mind after Mal's post.
Just for a note, I made three veeeery minor detail edits to my char profiles; I altered their ages, adjusted their weights, and in DFX's history, more clearly clarified when the big raid happened.
And speaking of which, Darkmoon, since we've got that character index with direct links to the profile posts, that ginormous unholy block of copied profiles is kind of obsolete. Not to mention simply deleting the whole thing would unclutter the first page significantly :B
And I'm not sure if Pagan's still with us. He hasn't replied to either of the PMs I sent him :/ He's still got some time before we leave, but it's running out...
I apologize for my absence.. my internet was suddenly cut off without reason. Several techs' heads were severed in a similar fashion, but with good reason. >:(
Aside from the town, it's low rolling hills and plains as far as the eye can see. The best you're going to be able to do for a "defensible" position is the top of a small hil, with maybe some brush to hide behind...
I figured as much... exactly why Mal didn't sound too hopeful about finding good cover..
Are you guys wanting me to step in here?
yes please i'm off to bed.
Sorry, RL stepped in for a few days, I'll post soon hopefully.
Whoops. I'll be getting a post in when I can.
My internet connection got shorted out by incompetent construction workers for the weekend. :< Will get back into the swing of things soon.
Just a notice to all RPs I'm in, I will be absent from Monday to Thursday on a camping trip in Yosemite. My characters will all be quiet for that time. I don't think that's enough time for anything to happen to make autoing necessary, but if something does happen, my guys will just be running around behind everyone else.
I'll try to get a post in before I leave. I may or may not succeed
I'm not going to force you guys to act if you don't want to... but I'm not going to make the first move, here.
I take it this is a possibly 'avoidable' encounter? ;)
Well, if everyone who's characters are awake are okay with waiting about an hour or two, in game, I can do a repairing montage and get all that stuff out of the way...then we can decided what to do about Dr. Light over there.

In answer to Ghostwish, it is an avoidable "encounter", buit that doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't have influence on the plot, one way or another.
i'm about two post away form pulling a sketch pad and jotting down a drawing and all the details i've observed about our glow moss of a visitor
I'm wondering, how far is this being from the group?
100 paces.
which means that i'm a little closer to it having left the main group to study my tomes right?
Could be, yeah.
Since no one seemed to object, I have made my post. All repairs are complete, and roughly two hours have passed. I assuming the light-thing hasn't moved during that time. I'm not assuming that for Tarson, though :giggle

Light magic? Sure.

Otherwise, you'd get spammed with responses. ;)
My kudos to Darkmoon for such an ingenious system.
...
Darkmoon has nothing to do with it. The code that manages that is written by the Simple Machines Forum Code Team.
I'm sure they appreciate your approval, though. ;-]
.... I'm going to go hide under a rock now.

That or Darkmoon's trying to drop our guard... :paranoid
I do tend to like batting people around.
Fear not, there will be more carnage later. I just don't want to kill anyone... yet.
it is a mystery how enigma has managed to avoid being the the mist of most of the battles so far.
We'll see how long it takes before Mal's mask slips off too. ;)
Just let me know when you want me to prod you in the next direction.
i'll wait to see what Malcurth is going to do before i reply again. not that i don't want to.
*throws a milk bottle at darkmoon*
*wheezes* Sorry about the uberlate post, but no inspiration really struck me. Carry on.
i unlocked the healing power of the earth charm when i pressed it into Aire's hand. it's up to Azlan and Darkmoon to come up with the effect of such manna. right now it is trickles of power with out a purpose like static electricity collecting on the edge of someones hair.
Azlan has been very ill, he will be back later...
then we shall await his returned. i have the patients of the eternal (or so i say)
as much as i would like to show enigma's response to Arie's reaction to the charm i think it best if i wait on mal first.
I am inetrested in these developments and would hate to interrupt.
thought i haven't mentioned it before the interspersion for the earth charm was the knuckles heal in the sonic battle GBA game. it replenishes mama fast then life / health but it does a bang up job on both and its on of the bet heals of the game. power rates of around six or seven for mana health is around 4/5 of that. but then it's been a long time since i've played the game and well i'm my gba isn't working any more "cat fish" sad face

I'm sorry, but I don't typically work off of video game mechanics. So that doesn't do me much good, as I am also having a hard time deciphering the bad grammar.
Double post! Wee!
Wie! I did not realize it was Wednesday already.
This post is to inform you all that I shall be away in jolly old England, London town specifically, between Dec 5th to 15th. I will be bringing my laptop, but I may not have much time for posting.
Cheers!
see you then but fell free to respond before you go. also i edited the post so that the grammar would be less painful to look upon.
I'm still here, just...haven't had much to do :B
Where eeees everyone?!? D:
Here.. Azlan left at a most inopportune time. :<
Tarson is sleeping so he's not gonna be doing anything.
enigma is waiting for either Mal or Arie to speak up thong he was speaking to Mal last if i recall correctly
Might as well play Azlan off as comatose then...
I will be back into things soon. A vacation means a mountain of work, with new projects thrown in... so I need to get stuff into order before I jump too far into RPs.
sorry to be a bit long winded but my game of navgate the maze of (hidden) meaning was ruined so i'm telling Malcurth what Enigma has founds out that's obivous as for his traps well he's written up more then one spelled taliaimes has he not?
sorry to double post but i want to put what enigma was thinking here and not in the rp proper.
enigma smiled he was older then the rumors about him. he'd been training for close to 3 cycles as his teacher put it. it was only in this last cycle that he was allowed to go among the people of this world to try dig up a trove of knowledge for his thesis. he need to record and verifies some unknown information or an event of great significance. this quest would suite those needs if it succeeds. if not then he could hope to find the information along the way and if he were truly lucky escape with his life.

:animesweat
Uhh... still alive. For what's it worth, I do apologize for my absence from this whole forum. I do have a good list of perfectly usable excuses too. You see, the last time I posted in here was to say that I was leaving for a military exercise. The event itself didn't took that long, but during that time I was left behind in my school work. And by behind, I mean left to the station while the bullet train makes it way to the kingdom beyond the clouds. Ergo, I've been quite busy for these few months. After I started to catch up with my work, I noticed that you people had already continued the story to the point where my character might have some difficulties on returning. Plus there has been a bit too much computer problems for my liking along the way. Even now my machine is in the shop and I'm stuck with this lagging paperweight that I like to call "old rusty".
Now I know I probably should posted this earlier, but the more I postponed this, the harder it got. It's not that I don't like this RPG (you haven't seen me anywhere in here either, no?), I've just been forced to compromise my life a bit too much lately. Studies come first, you see.
Awww, do return if you can!
Alas, it is not a matter of will but resources. Time and effort are what count in this case. I'll have to remain playing dead for another week and then we can discuss of Armita's return. So far it doesn't look that I'm going to have lots of time laying around, but we'll see.
Edit:
Woah! No posts in here in almost a week. I guess if this pace continues, I might be able to continue :)
Just fill me in what I've missed.
soo, out of curiosity is the open in the IC thread a mistake, or is this RP open for new characters?
I would dare say it is. :D
well then, should i post my overall character idea here, or PM it to the GM, and then go from there?
Post here, is the usual way. Then wait for the GM to approve, and if approved, usually the GM will point to your next move...
Name:Baelien Shadowstrike
Age:337
Race: Leopard Incubus
Weight: 180 Lbs
Height: 6'2" + 18' wingspan
Powers: Rather than fighting with weapons, he prefers to shape his wing/tentacles into bladed or pointed weapons... the largest advantage is that it allows him to attack from several directions at once, or fight several opponents... He has some basic knowledge in fire and storm magic (Wind and lightning based spells) but uses them more for distractions than with the intent of causing any real harm. He carries a pair of daggers which he uses both offensively and defensively... For true defense, he can harden his wings so he can use them kinda like a large shield. Wearing no actual armor, he relies entirely on his wings and daggers for protection. He fights fast and vicious, relying on his speed, agility and acrobatics to keep him out of relative harm. If cornered, he has nothing against fighting dirty, he'll distract them with a fireball, or lightning spark, use the bladed tentacles to keep the attention, then run up, and either break his targets leg, or use one of his daggers if he has to. The largest limitation to the bladed tentacles is the skill required to keep them out limits the number to 4 at most, and he prefers fighting with 2, as it gives him a much longer reach.
Appearance: Humanoid, with Leopard characteristics, Orangish/Cream overcoat, with a true cream undercoat, black splotches across his entire body, the wings take on the same appearance as his body, with the Oragish cream on the outside, wrapping around the edges slightly, the insides are cream, but the tips of the wings are black. His eye's are a dark blue. He has a lean, predatorial look to his body, being extremly thin and muscular. His hands are very human, except furry, and have retractable claws. His feet are padded, and he never wares shoes. For clothing Darkshine is often seen wearing some loose black cotton pants, and for formal occasions he's often seen wearing a midnight blue tunic, with gold trim, and matching pants.
Personality: Relatively laid back, he's not one to cause too many problems. His pride and arrogance can get him in trouble, his emotional tastes for confusion and pain means that he tends to find problems if for no other reason than to feed. With no real affinity for physical things, his adventuring is more a of a personal sense of wanderlust, he seeks excitement and/or fun. Darkshine is laid back, and very go with the flow, he's a bit of a show off, and has a huge sense of pride, especially when it comes to being an incubus. Being young, he's fairly reckless and arrogant, though also has a kinder side. He's sharp and intuitive, with a bit of a quick whit, but his overall attention span is extremely short. If he's not being active, he often looses interest. In conversations, anything involving things he doesn't care about he'll usually do something goofy, or insert an awkward transition sentence to change topics(IE "We are now talking about unicorns").
Just to warn you, this RP isn't set in the DMFA universe.. Cubi are a bit of an oddball here. :D
Fair game, i just had the insperation the other day, and felt like trying it out since where i was going to try the idea out got stalled for a little while, figure i'd see how it goes here
Nooooo.... D:
Not another incubus furry. Why are those things so damn popular?!?
because people like letting out their sadistic side, and only a demon or a incubus can really do that without giving a long, and usually angst filled backstory... at least, that's the major reason for me... well that and after playing a stint in marrowind for the last few weeks as a khajiit it just kinda seemed like the right kinda character

That's Morrowind, fetcher... anyways, could we not have more furry cubi from Furrae? One is quite enough.
well then, if you'd prefer a non incubus character, i can do a quick dark-elf assassin, or if you'd prefer someone more magical, i can do a female human mage, with a speicalty as a pyromancer
Our current furry cubi, who is indeed more than enough for one party, is a pyromancer. ;)
Dark elf assassin it is then, I suppose? We are lacking a bit of finesse in this party..
I think our mage quote is quite filled already.
alrighty then... i guess i'll go with the darkelf assassin
Thalien Ti'sani
age:212
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 115 pounds
Sex: Male
Appearance: Tall and slender, Thalien has gray eyes , short cut bluish gray hair, and tends to keep himself clean shaved. His more angular facial structure give away that he's an elf, but otherwise appears to be human. His skin tone would be described as a light pinkish(caucasian) with a slight hint of light gray tones. He has dark blue tattoos running across his arms from the wrist up, across his entire back as well as the front, top and back of the shoulders. The left side of his face is also tattooed, and that tattoo looks like a blue flame, starting at his jaw line, and working its way up around his eye, sweeping across his forehead towards the outside of his face, and ending in a jagged pattern around his temple. He wears black, form fitting, leather armor and normally has that covered with a black hooded cloak. When traveling, he carries a backpack on top of everything that he can drop when he needs to, and come back for later as the pack has his poisons, food, water, and other things not needed for immediate combat.
Powers: Thalien isn't truely magical, but is a master of the night, being trained by his master in the arts of absolute stealth, his has the unnerving ability to disappear when someone turns their back, and then reveal himself to have moved behind them without them having noticed. His darkelf heritage means he has natural low light vision, and through his training, he's extremely fast, agile and acrobatic. He prefers to fight with poisoned weapons, and carries a small collection of poisons with him in a wooden case. His personal favorite type is the natural venoms of creatures, as they tend to work fast, and be extremely effective at killing a target. For combat, Thalien carries a light crossbow with a small box of bolts clipped to his left hip, a pair of curved short swords which he wears sheathed across his back, he fights both under and overhand style, and is willing to go toe to toe with larger foes, knowing they can't keep up. He also carries 20 throwing knives semi-hidden across his armor. The swords are soaked in a light, nearly instantly acting poison, that while not lethal, causes muscle cramps, weakness and dizziness when it reaches the bloodstream. The crossbow bolt tips are coated in a natural venom, and if they pierce the skin, there's a roughly 50 percent chance of death within a few minutes, it the target survives beyond that point, they will be incapacitated for several hours. The throwing knives are coated in a similar poison to the swords, and are mainly used for slowing targets down, long enough to get a lethal sword strike in. (all venom and poison effects based on use against a human of standard height and weight) He is also fairly skilled in hand to hand combat, though he rarely uses the skill.
Personality: he tends to be a bit of a two face, when around strangers he acts cold and distant, but once he gets to know people, he's actually a fairly nice guy. He's naturally quite charismatic, and it's helped in several of his past killings while sneaking into, or out of formal occasions, or just convincing people he is someone he's not. Although he kills professionally, outside of the job he tends to be non-confrontational and will usually try and talk someone down, rather than take them out to a back alley and end the problem permanently. He tends to enjoy messing with people he knows, and his stealth makes it exceedingly easy to do at night.
Edit: Soo, critiques, comments, concerns?
*looks around*
Where'd everybody go? Especially Darkmoon?
i was wondering that myself
I ates him... nom nom
Me finks he forgot about this thread again.
Oh jeeze, I knew I've been forgetting somethin. I've had some issues (need a second job X_X) come up so I'll be posting sparingly.
reboot i'm waiting on post to get posting again.
I'm gonna poke darkmoon, see if I can't wake em. :D
Use the pitchfork! We can't continue the game without the GameMaster.
*stabstabstab!*
Honestly, once again I kept up with it for a while, and then the thread died for a few days, and no one seemed like they were doing anything, so I wandered away.
However, Ghostwish had the right idea. He sent me a PM, and I'm back again with renewed interest.
So... I'm going to PM our new player, and if they're still interested, I'll work them in some how.
yea, i'm still up for joining in... it's more an issue of how to get me in
Amusing entrace indeed >:3 May touch up DFXs's dialogue later, had to make a relatively quick post, and now I must leave.
Fear not. I'm checking in on the thread. I'm just waiting for now, as you guys are having fun interacting.
and what fun we're having
I... You... but...
Gah!!
Would someone please explain to me how the gaming dynamics work for you people. At one point it seemed like this game was good as dead and now you people became as active like a ribosome enzyme with mRNA and free nucleotides. And now you've seemed to stop posting again for over a week!
i'm still waiting on the other people... but they don't seem to have anything to say...
Darkmoooon :D
i'm waiting for a time when i have something to contribute but right now all i can think of is "enigma snickered but would still check into the healing powers of the unicorn horn. he believed it was some where on phase and that was in a differed world that he was not allowed to visit yet."
So, are we stalled on anyone specifically, right now? All I can think of is that people need to post that they start following Tarson and continue our travels, and Darkmoon can transition us to the next to-do thing.
i felt like being silly. feel free to get angry and whatever
Ring Ring, calling Darkmoon...or bluplatespecial...or whatever the hell he is... :/
so mister plat i must let you know that enigma has some clue that you are there but true to his look first act second nature he'll simply watch you for hostile intent first.
Just an FYI, I cannot answer your questions to Aire. I will drop a line to DM.
i understand. ah well time for me to head off to work take care
Wow, I'm glad I didn't fall to far behind. I'll try to post tomorrow if possible.
Voyager, you do realize that DFX basically said "I don't care whether you come or not, it's your neck" and walked away? He's not exactly around to listen to Enigma's babbling anymore... >:3
no i guess i would expect him too. enigmas just gotten into a preachy speeckie kind state and he trying to figure out if he really should do this. in fact the part that was really meant to DFX and not himself was here

That's not the point, the point is DFX
walked away from Enigma, meaning that he's not near Enigma or listening anymore. Specifically, he's gone to set up the wards around hismelf and Tank. You'd have to specify that Enigma followed DFX, and then probably wait for him to finish the wards, which he is concentrating on. If you interrupt him, he may not be too happy with Enigma... >:3
...Besides, how the hell do you expect a
construct, whom as you are aptly pointing out may not know how chloroform or oxygen affect fleshlings, to even know what a fleshling's "vitals" are, let alone monitor them? :P
that should have been "wouldn't" . as in" no i guess i wouldn't expect him to" good point i'll edit the post once i'm had a chance to rest up make it more clear. i only mention chloroform in passing during the first tirade thought so i doubt if it's important.

Enigma was at least a somewhat capable spell caster as was 28, but both were limited in offensive capabilities as far as he could tell, but they did have Tank, which was pretty much a win all token unless they ran into metal eating monsters. Of course such metal eating monsters would also have an interest in eating their weapons and their armors as well as Tank and 28 themselves. Then of course he pictured the monsters coming back to camp and slaughtering the entirety of their group just to snack on the drow's knives and other such delectable metallic objects.
heh heh... ever heard of Rust Monsters? They're in D&D, and are almost exactly like that. In fact, i've got a funny story about them. I'm DMing an Eberron campaign, and one of the characters in the party is a warforged. He's a fighter-class, and has the Adamantine Body feat, all of which means that, even at low level, he's got a high Armor Class, high hitpoints, even Damage Reduction, making him a very tough character. Kinda like my Tank, except...Tank's better >:3 Anyway, they've got all they're own racial modifiers and special rules for being "living constructs", one of which they are vulnerable to some effects that are harmless to ordinary living creatures. Like a Rusting Grasp spell, or...the attack from a rust monster.
Well, the party was in a dungeon, and so far, I had the theme with spiders and bugs, so I decided to throw two rust monsters at the group. Being creatures that rust metal and eat it, they ran straight for the warforged. One attack. One single attack, which was a Touch attack, ignoring all his uber Armor Class, a rusting effect, bypassing all of his Damage Reduction...and dealt a very -hearty- amount of damage, knocking down almost all of his hitpoints.
That was a fun day to be the DM. Good times, good times >:3
Anyway, Rust Monster!

Exactly what I was alluding to, but since it's Darkmoon's world I didn't know if it'd be cool to bring them up as real, hence why Aeo's imagination went into overdrive. And I know the pain of the rust freaks, I play a warforged whenever I get back into DDO and somehow any party I get into that's anywhere NEAR those freaks always manages to let me get killed by them.
Familyghost? It's probably too late, but I think you misunderstood what DFX said to Aeo. DFX didn't say "don't come with us", he basically said "fine, come if you want, but no one else should come with us". Or is that actually how you read it?
I'm wondering because your posts seem to be implying that DFX actually refused you.
Sort of a combo of both, I would have thought up something to keep him behind if DFX had flat out said "Yes
. As is I used his assurance of no rust monsters to keep Aeo settled, mainly cause he knows he's not stealthy.

...What, and Tank
is? >:3 This isn't about stealth, it's basically about making as much noise as possible to see
what wakes up, and then retreat to figure out how to remove it :3
Will Tank scream at the first sight of a really nasty monster? Aeo would have, but it doesn't really matter as I wanted him to stay behind for the most part.
chuckles. if it were steal i'd think that tank and DFX 28 would not be going there. speaking of going there should we pad DM ?

i meant stealth ( as in if it were a stealth mission of if stealth were important ) i don't spell so well when i'm tired or in a hurry
Hmm...Darkmoon hasn't yet responded. I'll poke him again. *gets out poking stick*
Huston we have plot advancement! just try not to step on me while i'm looking over the floor for traps
Floor's clean, fyi
thanks. i kind of assumed it when he walked in with no spills but not i have to wait until we're ready to clime the stair way also can the stairways support the constructs?
I'm going to try and reformat my computer today, if it fails I may have a friend post in here to let you all know I'll be a while. I say this because I have horrible luck with reformatting.
ADDED:
IT WORKED! Sort of... I'm gonna have to hunt down the guy who sold me this piece of junk.
Stairs are sturdy.
Man, my job is so easy right now.
Heh-heh. All that work to get Tarson to accept his position as leader... and when he
finally starts to really act like it, the new guy blows him off. :rolleyes

At the top, is what appears to be a trapdoor.
To make your job even easier, I'll assume there's nothing else up there besides that ;)
Nope. Nuffin.
DFX didn't actually open the trapdoor, yet. Is this magic really just escaping from around the cracks, Darkmoon?

It's actually full of ninjas and that's not magic... that's awesome given physical form.
Point for Azlan.
Yes, the magic is seeping out through the cracks.
Ho, wait a sec, "painted vision purple", as in, now can only see solid purple, or just everything is a tone of purple?
Toned.
Oh yeah, Darkmoon, did DFX actually manage to identify any magic before/during the flash? If so, what?
was enigma effected? i'm just getting in so i don't know
Just magical leakage. The source is in indeterminate.
Eh heh heh...voyager? DFX, does not, in any way, sound alarmed. Based on his speech, he was supposed to sound completely deadpan, as in, "Oh, now I see in purple. Whatever."
And, if Enigma didn't hear the whole bit that DFX said in the first place, he wouldn't have heard anything about visoon, yet. He would have only heard the question, "Have you experienced any irregular effects?" in a completely calm voice.
i see. i did not mean that his vocal patten had changed but his voicing a question about effects caught enigma off guard. and no enigma was not truly paying attention to what but he might have herd the word vision but i'll change it to fit better. i'll probably sound more like a whiner then i want this time around though but that's okay
Meh, he doen't sound like a whiner now, just worried, and there's nothing wrong with that.

DFX isn't casting any spells. He's just trying to sense/identify any magic there might be.
you use magic to sense magic do you not?
Only if you actually cast a true analyzing spell. DFX is just trying to tune in to a magical sense to "feel" the magic directly.
EDIT: Of course, Darkmoon has the final verdict on how all this works.
in that case i'll just have to wait. i know that it was your sensing that triggered it the first time so from enigma's point of view it was a magic trigger or spell that caused whatever happened to you when you tried to sense magic around the trapdoor before
I'm having a bad week... ok um I might be a bit slow to respond for oh... a month or so. my computer's graphics card fried itself and now I can only use my mom's laptop when she's at work. So... yeah... What a week for me.
A bad week? Try a bad year.
Seriously, science is a harsh mistress with an 12 inch strap-on. I'll probably be working in lab and writing articles till the end of May. I'm not gonna rant anymore about it, because I doubt you'd like to hear me whine.
Sorry for absence, but one has to make compromises with his studies and rest of his life.
I bow to your superior sucky-year-ness...
Anyone seen Darkmoon? We're waiting on him...
I need to think on what I want to have behind the trap door. Don't let me forget, but let me think on this for a day or two. I've completely spaced on what I was going to have there originally...
nah, j/k. Take what time you need to get your bearings back.
Well, back long ago, I had an exact plan... but then it took a while to get where we are now... and I discovered so many other shiny objects...
Oh, fyi, the trapdoor is ABOVE you, not below you. Think attic, not basement.
...Huh?
Okay, will edit all posts accordingly....
i had one eye open one eye closed. is enigma's vision purple now?
It's chartreuse.
FYI, I'm ready when you are...
Right. I'll probably get a post up later today, I'm just in the middle of finals week right now, but mostly I was gone yesterday. Yeah, I had bad timing of poking you, sorry :<
Darkmoon, is the trapdoor locked?
any what will the restore talisman enigma wrote do for his eye?
Unlocked.
Just waiting on someone to make the next move.
Crap! Sorry, I had something thought up, but I forgot to get around to it, I'll work something up right now.
D: AZLAN you sunk my scrabble ship... :U
That's fine. I take out his rook with my spy, send in the armies from Urtuk, and then roll double 4s and get out of jail!
Gin! I win.
oh the illogic. you have blown my mind. now iu need to rest the parameters again and that takes all day.
Okay! that should get everyone back into this RP now. It has been quite awhile, so I'll PM-poke eveyone who hasn't been by recently to tell them it's back on. Hopefully they all haven't dropped it becuase of this...
Even if everyone does get back, for OOC reasons, I don't think we should do single recon like this again. I didn't realize it would stall the RP for everyone else this much.
EDIT: Check familyghost off, already got a return message from him.
Darkmoon, is DFX making any progress with analyzing the spell? If so, can you start telling me (in character) how the portal works?
It's difficult to tell. DFX doesn't have access to time magic (really time/space, but back in the day they wouldn't have had the knowledge to call it that). DFX doesn't have the ability to access it, because no one has the ability to (or at least, most don't -- those that try are either so powerful that the ill effects aren't seen or felt... or they aren't powerful enough to control it, and kindly remove themselves from the time/space continuum).
So, DFX can pour raw power into the spell, which well engaged it further for only a brief while, or DFX can try to attempt to actually access that sphere of power, but the results could be disastrous. The reason I say this is because DFX should have an inkling of what he's tapping into and the risks of that kind of magic.
i think enigma has enough of a clue to realize whats he's seeing. it would also explain when he's calling forth his power to pour it into the spell and try to wedge it open a little be longer from their end. does this fit into the RP well? also will this two magic's work off each other or weaken each other?
You're allowed to tap into whatever magics you like, within reason.
the magic levels are withing reasoned. how he uses them well that i got form digimon frontier. darkness first reinforced by light which increases the shadows that the darkens draws on or something like that.
A note to all RPs I'm in - Starting tomorrow, my Internet access may be sporadic or cut off completely, as my family is visiting some other family for a week. If I can post something I will, but no guarantees.
Yo, I noticed the IC thread says that your open for new players. In that case, could I join? Got a character made already:
Name: Artimus
Species: Construct
Model: Artimus X238
Gender: Nonexistant
Age: [Data missing]
Height: Six feet even
Weight: 420 pounds
Appearance: Essentially a steel man, with great detail etched into the face. Either arm holds sheathed inside a finely crafted adamantium blade, capable of cutting through non-reinforced steel with ease. Through his bent, scratched, and worn state it is obvious that he has not been maintenanced recently, or, quite possibly, ever.
Personality: Artimus has been designed to be quick thinking when he needs to be, and analytical when calmed. He is somewhat forgetful, primarily due to his damaged memory stone. His face is about as expressive as a human's as well, making him relatively easy to read emotionally. When involved with people, he is more like a human than a construct, and is very friendly to new acquaintances or allies.
Abilities/combat: Artimus prefers to use his speed and intellect against any and all opposition; he can even call upon deeper reserves of power to double his speed for a short duration, usually thirty to forty seconds.
Strengths: Artimus is abnormally fast for a construct, so fast his strikes to an opponent is a blur. He is also very athletic, comparable to a gymnastics master.
Weaknesses: Occasionally over analyzes situations to a point of looping. His memory crystal is badly damaged, causing a sort of amnesia as well as making him rather forgetful from time to time.
History: The Artimus X238 series of construct soldiers were built to get the job done quickly and effectively. Although few were ever built, and fewer put into the line of duty, a majority of X238s were destroyed after it was discovered that they eventually develop morals, laws, and highly advanced reasoning systems that commonly conflicted with their owners intentions.
Artimus is essentially the final operating X238. His memory crystal was badly damaged during a fight with his 'employer', and most other knowledge was lost in the fragments.
Another construct? I don't know whether to balk at my territory being invaded, or welcome a brethren with open arms :U
The game is open, although I'll have to find an appropriate time to work in new players. That said, I'm hesitant to add someone when the poster has only one post. I don't want you to join and then never post again, ya know?
Meh, understandable. No hard feelings.
Yeah, just spend a little more time on the forum, then try again. I'd be happy to add you once you have a just a squidge more experience here.
Sorry for not posting in a long while but I've had a lot of real life get in my way recently and it doesn't look like it's cooling down anytime soon. I don't want to drop out but... uh can we say Aeo's following quietly in the back or something? At least until these issues I'm dealing with are over, it shouldn't be to long I hope.
Am I supposed to make the next move?
Just about to head back home on a 10-hour drive. I'll get something up tomorrow.
i think so darkmoon
Everyone else should porbably get in another round of postings, of the rest of the group actually getting to the Tower now...
