Mmm-hmm...
My rectum is enchanted too! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enchanted_(2007_film))
I had thought at first it might be a live-action/animated version of Kingdom of Hearts, which might have been interesting. But alas, it looks like nothing but fail.
As usual, the plot is heavily borrowed (stolen) from another film: "Just Visiting", which was taken from a French film "Les Visiteurs". And as usual it will be 'Disnified' to death as a musical.
I predict incredible stupidity, pathetic writing, and annoying songs chock full of useless pop culture references. And with Disney's record this past decade, I have a 99% chance of being right! >:3
It sounds like a not-so-memorable Mary Poppins. Animation combined with live action always seemed tacky to me.
The moment i read that wikipedia page, an area around my liver started to hurt. im dead serious.
I don't know... it could be interesting*

*interesting is defined as watching two trains carrying nitroglycerin and honey mustard traveling towards each other at 120mph on the same track somewhere near Louisville Kentucky. Part of you wants to see the wreck and the aftermath, as well as examine the possibility of opening up a KFWC. The other part of you wants to get farther away than Far Far Away.
i want to see a truck of chocolate and peanut butter crash in an explosion of flavor.

I dunno, some movies seem to pull it off okay. (think "Who Framed Roger Rabbit") Although yeah, I suppose a lot of it is turd. :<
For some reason this just reeks of desperation from Disney.
:curseyou
Doesn't everything?
it's like "who framed roger rabbit" but instead of being a good movie it's a pile of shit
I didn't bother to read the wikipedia page, since I jus tdidn't bother to, but...
As much as it might seem like a desperate cash grab from Disney, something to bear in mind is that this script has existed for a lot long than Disney has been involved. The only reason it got made was because it finally caught Disney's interest. Otherwise, it'd still be in development hell.
I thought for a second this was the horrible film that I did background for in the summer. Strangely the plots of both share similarities.
Princess in lead role.
Mythical beasts.
Princess ends up in modern day city somehow.
Random dude finds her and helps her adapt.
The only difference is the one I was in is a made for tv movie.
FAIL.
So hard.
Tenth Kingdom did it better.
Reminds me why the Doctor Who made for tv movie did so poorly in US...No one in their minds could glue to it and understand
Maden for tv movies all fail for one major reason... The FOR TV part. Everyone instantly assumes if a movie has been 'made for tv' then it is clearly something so horrible that no movie theatre would show it, or the premise is so weak that no feature film company would produce it. So a cheap company makes it, then throws it on tv in the vague hope that someone might pay to advertise during it thus making them some money.
The only way made for tv movies every actually see success is when someone get's the brilliant idea to make the movie a few hours longer, then break it into pieces and call it a 'mini-series'.
did you know that Toy Story 2 was never intended for a theatrical release? Halfway through production, they decided to make it a real film, instead of straight to video.
Oh God, made for T.V. movies; Atomic Train and 10.5... xD Just to name a few.
Disney has some very talented people, however, they are being put to work on lowest-common-denominator-pleasing-sacharine-stock-plot-with-ungodly-amounts-of-sugar-and-family-friendlyness drivel.
I predict this movie will be brimming with sentimental songs, sung whenever time needs to be filled in because the flimsy cookie-cutter plot just won't fill the movie on it's own.
The plot barely filled the trailer...
Disney is still recovering from Eisner. And I wonder if this might be the last of Eisner's bad ideas. Preproduction (such as plot and character development) seems woefully underdone, and that was true of a lot of things during the Eisner period. On the other hand, Sky High did a lot better than I expected. Think of this as part of Disney's ten step plan for recovering from Eisner and getting back to good production values.
flight of the navigator was pretty good, and I'm sure that one was done under Eisner... along with the first Mighty Duck film, and The Lion King.

Also The Great Mouse Detective and...The Rocketeer? How on Earth did they manage to do that without sending it to Touchstone?
But otherwise, 1984-2005 was a crap shoot.
...They did a film version of That Darn Cat? I mean, one not starring Hayley Mills?
I have it from some insiders that Eisner started letting the executives take much of the control of production..
Imagine your manager trying to make a movie...
Now you can understand how some of the recent Disney stuff kept getting greenlit. ;)
This isn't the nadir, though. Home on the Range was the nadir.
Disney's cartoon movies in general don't live up to the hype, or are only good for one viewing.
well, duh, this isn't exactly high art we're discussing here.
am I the only one who thinks Disney was trying to cut production cost's by animating the part of the film that takes place in the dark ages...because you know I suspect it would be more interesting if they filmed it on location with the men and women of Darkon.
the odd sensation i always see is that it seems whoever makes the trailers meets the following condition
1- has started work on the trailer before the film is even finished being written
2- has never seen any part of the film other then the snips for the trailer
3- seriously dislike the makers of the film
4- have a love of the actors which borders on religion
seriously, i see a long line of trailers that either come out 2 years before the movie does, describe a completely different movie, or don't describe the movie at all in favor of telling you who is in it. and on top of that the movie has always changed between the making of the trailer and the movie release.

PS: For those not anime-obsessed, that's a "Technoman" or "Tekkaman" reference. :B

"Teknoman" is how they spelled it, at least down here. I had no idea it was Japanese animation dubbed when I was a kid. It was almost the first anime I saw, not counting Sailor Moon. Or the first one I did see, thinking all anime was joy and light.
Akira put a stop to THAT~

I miss that series sooo much
That's Really going to look like shit on a Burger King glass. :U
okay, i just saw a new commercial for it and i am stricken as to how they seem to go out of their way to make the characters of medium stupidity suddenly become three times as stupid upon going to the 'real world'.
im going to have to keep an eye out if this is due to the writers or the actors, too many movie studios think they can just pull people out of their ass and expect good work. whichever one is at fault, i feel bad for the other
I think the main reason why Diseny fails is its insistence of instilling moral lessons of socialism by showing the individual as an incompetent moron without the help of his "Joe average" sidekick, while still taking advantage of capitalism and reaping the all mighty dollar from parents of children to inexperienced to know better. This is why Disney movies are such turds.
and in the end the individual learns that in order to be accepted, all (s)he has to do was be himself...and behave like "joe average."

Which, for the more ... interesting people on the planet, is completely contradictory.
Meh, who wants to be accepted by a bunch of losers.
This whole planet's full of losers! They need to get beaten more often.
*Charles would be a villain* >:3
I can't wait for The Princess and the Frog. It will be 2D, and it'll be the first movie completely made under Lassetter's reign, IIRC.

And it'll have Keith "Goliath/Spawn" David as the villain. Don't forget that.
*dies* The critics mostly like it... Disney has bought them all off, apparently. :headdesk
And naturally the early user reviews are glowing, but the first ones are always studio plants. We'll see how it fares after a few thousand more reviews.
Unless they changed a whole lot from what I read about it and from the early previews, I'm going to have to go with my theory that Eisner spikes everyone's drinks with happy juice when they're going in to watch.
Quote from: Alondro on November 21, 2007, 02:22:47 PMAnd naturally the early user reviews are glowing, but the first ones are always studio plants.
And fanbois.
the job of a critic mostly seems to be a cross between 'i write what people want to read' and 'i write down what i think is fun to write'
so many of them scarcely seem to watch the movies even, and some you know are either paid to change their opinion or throw a dart for what kind of review to give
Oh ho wait, I've fallen for this one before. Since when are ads a good representation of a movie, anyway? :/
I reserve judgement until I've actually seen the thing, if ever.
i think someone was making fun of that before, and recorded several of those voiceover ads for series that were so utterly unlike the series that you knew the person recording it did not even know what show they were doing.
i believe one of the ones in the list was the anime 'lost universe' and the announcer made it sound like a mel gibson post apocalyptic survival flick. for those of you unfamiliar with 'lost universe' it includes terrorists who wear chicken suits, to give you an idea

Were they the same guys who were the Chicken Men of Krankor in "Prince of Space"? The title character also seemed to show up again in "Invasion of the Neptune Men".
MST3K memories. :3
EDIT: The movie... it-it may actually be good... Disney made something good all by itself even when it looked like it would be a poorly crafted rip off of two previous films... my god... the world IS coming to an end! :U

I heard that they actually got some good people to come back in after Eisner left, or at least managers who knew enough to let the competent people make the decisions. I've been pleasantly surprised by Disney before: Sky High was much better than I expected.
By the way, I'm not sure if Home on the Range was really the nadir, but it was close.
true, but Sky High had professionally trained actors, with known reputations, and a story that was attractive to the singles, comic book aficianatos, and more importantly the average American family. Sky High also had cameo's, and solid writing, that didn't insult the intelligence of it's intended audience.
Enchanted looks like a by the numbers "DURRRH" film that was written by Disney for a tweenage audience, but will seem brilliant to six year olds.It will insult the very basic laws of intelligence, and convince children that they will become stupider as they get older, instead of the other way around.
Well... most people actually do seem to get stupider as they get older these days. I mean, look how many people still fall for the Nigerian scams. :P
And when you get older, you start LIKING the Golf Channel and NASCAR!!
Disney may have a point... :U

Since we are getting further awy from disney's latest turd-mongering:
Bill, where the hell did you get that quote in your sig? It's completely insane and stupid.
Also, I hope this thing will flop so badly, that Disney goes bankrupt, and then all the animators start up studios of their own, doing creative things that Disney would never allow (like making animation aimed at grown-ups, and not cranking out family-friendly drivel), and then become wildly successful. </rant>

Oh dear. I just found a whole site dedicated to that kind of nutjobbery. Fundies of any religion (mostly christian) arguing stupidly about everything. (some of them don't believe
gravity really exists 'A')
Shall I make a seperate thread about it?

If Disney goes bankrupt, that means Pixar goes bankrupt too.
ha! Pixar was bought out by Disney last year, the founders started a new company called studio six or something similar...meaning that Pixar only exists as a name and a franchise.

I think you need to do some factchecking tbh
Haha... going back to the Enchanted movie from before, Disney decided to drop the girl from the Disney Princess line because they realised they'd have to pay the actress royalties for her image. They've instead decided to include the character from the upcoming The Princess and the Frog movie, and possibly Rapunzel from her movie that'll be coming out in 2010.
;_; I'm so glad Disney is going back to the good stuff. The Princess and the Frog is supposed to be set within the 1920s Jazz Era, and Rapunzel seems like it is going to have a really, really interesting art style to it. I wish I could track down a picture of what they mean, all I've been able to find is theoretical stuff on what they're trying to achieve.
I've actually been looking forward to this movie, at least how they treat the differences between the fairy-tale world and the "real" world, and what happens when the differences between the two go away. Darn, I might have to see this now to either warn everyone away or spread the Enchanted virus as a drooling Disney zombie fanboy.
I just saw the movie. It actually wasn't half-bad. Most of it didn't seem forced. Except for the beginning and animal clean-up scene, even though I know those were completely deliberate, it still made me shuffle a little uncomfortably. But other than that, it was an alright movie.
I liked the Dragon special effects at the end, that was pretty cool.
*nods* I feared it was going to be just another stupid hip-hip modern kiddie crap movie. But it seems Disney kinda makes fun of its own tendancy for overly-fluffy stories in the movie.
Can't go wrong there. :3
Still, give me the Wicked Queen from "Snow White". Or Maleficent. They were some truly wicked evil villains!
Is disney ever going to make something like "the black cauldron", except with a higher budget? Isn't the world tired yet of rehashed fluffy crap? *sigh*
Can't there ever be a disney film without 'happily-ever-after'? i haven't seen one yet...=<

do you mean Live action or Pixarmation? because I can honestly say I don't see either happening... Unless Don Bluth or Tim Burton to re imagines the whole thing I don't see it working that well in the box office.
