ah, emotional scarring.
Poor little Abel. Whatever that was between him and his mother, I'm betting it's not going to give him the warm and fuzzies.
Well now...This is probley "cutting" it close as they say...Dont get much worse here or does it? >:3
She's given up on trying to stop whatever's going to happen, and accepted Abel's fate. I'm thinking it's Abel's thoughts in the last panel (before, when Abel "heard" other peoples' thoughts, they were a different style).
I'm talking about the very last panel, in the lower right where is says "I'm sorry"

My inner spectator, however, is just feeling so so sorry for Abel. :<
I'm a little torn about the implications of May's stare, though--she seems defeated and hurt in the third panel, maybe a little exhausted, which can mean that she's either blaming Abel for all the ache and pain which has occurred to her deteriorating life, can't bear to look at what will happen next, or has just given up. I'm starting to suspect it's a mixture of numbers one and three.
Bah. My speculation would be better but I r tired. :<

My thoughts exactly, but I think it's mostly one.
I think the 'I'm sorry' is referring to the comic where Abel promised to his mom that he wouldn't be a monster.

Wow...I didn't think of that, but it just reinforces that May turned away from her son, from what I think is blame.
It's Abel speaking/thinking...
if you look... he's already starting to say the "I'm"...

That's just what I was thinking. I'd have posted that page if you hadn't already.
'Tis not unexpected, but it's still saddening. Admittedly, there a number of things that could have made May done that, most understandable. I can't precisely place what emotion she has on her face. Reading off other peoples comments and adding my own bit:
1: Could be emotionally drained (not literally, but in shock after seeing Cid->Aniz and Henya chunks) and has stopped processing stuff (looks at Abel, fails to think of anything, stomach starts hurting again)
2: Possibly despairing of her own faliure towards not being able to protect Abel - could produce that 'lack of emotion' look, and the 'I'm Sorry' (assuming that's her thoughts... big assumption)
3: Worst case: "Do Not Want". That'd be pretty scarring for Abel, even if she changes her mind later - it's not unlikely this is the last time they'll see each other alive..
O'course, it'd look the same to Abel if he isn't able to read minds (Abel... Able... Abel... Bah, that name and abilities are going to turn me spellings round) and he may just assume Option 3 with the Op.2 bit of faliure of 'Mom' to help him.
If he CAN read minds, 1. and 2. might ease his eventual thoughts a bit on the matter of May.
In the long run, of course.
Short run, mental breakdown etc possible.
That strip worked extremely well themed to the jaunty little number "The Boy With The Bubblegun" by Tom McRae. I tend to take a few minutes to read the stripes these days cause Amber's getting into the region where there's always a few more things to notice if you look hard enough.
As a side point, my mother used to do the exact same thing to me when I forgot to tidy my room.

What I find even sadder is that you'll probably be able to say the same thing about the next one. (And probably the one after that.)
If Amber had drawn something like this in an art class in the high school my children went to, she'd have been scheduled for an instant trip to the school psychiatrist to check for suicidal tendencies.
Regarding May's expression, I remember a time when my son was very young, and he managed to get a cut on his chin. At the emergency room, the doctor asked me hold his head still while he inserted stitches. I held him still, but I had to turn my head away because I couldn't stand the sight of his bleeding chin. That feeling was what May's expression reminded me of.
Awww, and here I was hoping he'd puke on Aniz' shoes. :[

Should she be considered a potential role model for Dan and Abel in the same way that Devin (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Abel_54.php) was for Abel. Whoa, that actually does look close.
However, this is not the first time it's been suggested, and I'm thinking it's not true. Why would a cubi be teaching a demon class? I don't think Fa'Lina goes for that kind of thing too often, and Aniz has said himself that she is closely involved with what Aniz is doing.
But, on the flip side, Cid/Aniz did come home saying he met a 'friend'. That has yet to be revealed.
Honestly, I can't take a side on this. There simply is not enough conclusive evidence either way.

I..uh...don't think you people got it.
My last post had three references to non-Jack webcomics.
To be honest, both sides are kind of nerve-grating after a while. Is it really so much better to have someone making a snide comment about the Jack reference than the reference itself?
To clear things up, there are two issues at hand. One side finds it highly annoying that Jack is apparently the say-all/end-all of drama and anytime something sad or bad happens in DMFA, that its so "Jack". And honestly, it doesn't help that it is the only comic menioned...which is why when it is brought up, it gets on people's nerves because there is nothing to buffer between occurances thus it makes it seem like its mentioned every day.
On the other side, it isn't really fair to bring up everytime Jack is mentioned and throw it in the person's face. It makes one appear smug and holier-than-thou. And it really isn't fair to Jack's creator, who is a pretty keen guy. I'd rather not make it seem like the readers over here have a major hate-on for his stuff. That said, there isn't any rule saying one has to mention three other comics for every Jack mention.

You should keep a tally of how many Abel-haters became sympathisers after reading Abel's Story. I imagine the count would be pretty high.
I'm not really expecting haters to become sympathisers. But I am hoping for some good old "Oh you wanted Abel to be miserable eh? WELL HERE YA GO! :U Whats that? Not the way you wanted it? BWAAHAHAHAAHAAHA!"

I don't think that I can entirely overlook my general fear and loathing of 'cubi, but at least in Abel's case I'm willing to make an extremely generous compromise. I really have to wonder how much of a thorn in Fa'lina's side Abel is. Do you really think that Fa'lina would assign anybody as a roommate to Abel if she didn't feel that that individual was deserving of what Abel would likely do (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_425.php), either good or bad. According to the cast page (http://www.missmab.com/Cast/abel.php), Fa'lina views Abel fondly and Abel respects Fa'lina.
If there is anybody who really views Abel as a thorn in the side, I suspect that it is the SAIA librarian.

Plain and simple, Angels and Demons are bad due to the sheer amount of power they have, not to mention Dragons and Fae who are simply catastrophic. But 'Cubi? They are worse. They feast on emotions, which of course leads to many provoking pain, heartbreak, shame and desperation. They have natural abilities for deception and for getting into people's heads. That's very private territory, mind you. And they have the natural drive to use these abilities, it seems. So in effect, you could say that while all the other races settle for disrespecting life, peace, intellect and property, 'Cubi not only do that but they also go in for pain and humiliation. In effect, they add insult to injury.
And yes, I know that I am generalizing, but frankly I don't care. It is general enough that it works. In this case I am a racist, yes. And I need incontestable proof before I view one 'Cubi alone as someone good.

2: Possibly despairing of her own faliure towards not being able to protect Abel
...and that's a definite, too.
Remember, Aniz just told May to shut up, or she's dead. She's powerless, and she knows it. I think she's looking away from her son out of shame. She can't help Abel, she can't do anything at this point, she's terrified ... and she's ashamed of it.
Or, at least, that's my take on this week's strip.

Also, I agree with whoever said the scene where Devin get murdered and Abel hears his last thoughts is the worst of all. I'm pretty positive I was actually in tears when I first read that part...it was just so, so tragic and everything. ;_;
Yeah, I found that to be a very Yasui-letting-go-of-the-mast moment, too.
What?
You wanted a reference to a comic other than "Jack," no? ;)

I'm not really expecting haters to become sympathisers. But I am hoping for some good old "Oh you wanted Abel to be miserable eh? WELL HERE YA GO! :U Whats that? Not the way you wanted it? BWAAHAHAHAAHAAHA!"
I am a shallow terrible being.
And one time I punched Zina in the face. It was aweseome. :3
Really? You both thought that was awesome? Well then, Amber, will you punch me in the face?

This comic was so Jack, I half expected Drip to show up and start raping people.
Teehee.
Chibi Drip is too cute, and would never do such a thing. Chibi Jack would stop him anyway.

Maybe we should get Amber to drop the usuall DMFA characters for a week or two, and replace them with her
Jack character chibis. Maybe then we'd get it all out of our system... nah.

Is it wrong that I was also reminded of Jack... not by any similarity of style or drama, but because Abel's eyes are getting smaller and smaller, and it reminded me of how all the dead (and going to hell) people in Jack have pinpoint eyes?
Considering how Abel's life is going to hell right now, it's certainly understandable one might make that link.
See? This guy understands that not every Jack reference is saying "Jack is all drama, all drama is Jack".
I can make an EGS reference involving no squirrels. I can make a Black Sabbath reference that doesn't involve Ozzy. I can even make a DMFA reference that doesn't involve cubi.

Oh dear. I may have to kill Gabriel now for including someone else's character in the
Unholy Radio Project strip that I'm hosting and not telling me so I can do the copyright attribution...

They feast on emotions, which of course leads to many provoking pain, heartbreak, shame and desperation. They have natural abilities for deception and for getting into people's heads. That's very private territory, mind you. And they have the natural drive to use these abilities, it seems.
Well, I can't really argue with that as a whole, aside from the fact that we've seen a very small cross-section close up, and that willingness to do evil is going to depend on the upbringing - you're less likely to do such stuff if you're brought up as a Being.

Non_jack realted stuff. :B
... so Jack is for sale? How do I contact the realtor?

And don't forget - be sure to include a Drip Censorship Panda.

The strip appears at the bottom of the DMFA Radio Project site, so 'MA' isn't quite the rating it needs.
NSFA? (Not Safe For Anyone)
yes, but really who would I attribute the chibi too, Amber or David...and then I added the cute lil' antenna and the mow tail , and then the character started to look more like kello the kitty, and I did say the colors/markings were borrowed. and the joke gets funnier when you know where it (the soul) came from.
FYI the chibi baby was inspired by kello as seen here, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzy_BK8P78o) I made the beak wider and put the marks and antenna in, and then I thought of drip. The image in the upper right was based off an image of whinny the pooh holding a bunny, and then the whole Cabbit thing stuck, and almost all Mikelo images are based off of Amber's originals.
It's your art, and David's character, so, inspired by Amber's version or not, it would probalby be most appropriate to credit Dave.
(completely off topic, nice shot on having Leo and Aeris wearing Tycho and Gabe's clothes :P )

Again, I pointed out the colors were used, and where they came from, and "drip" was mentioned... as to weather the recombined being will actually be drip has yet to be determined... although the the possibility is still there.
Gabriel. The "character" looks like a near-duplicate of Dave's character Drip with some modifications. You can't widdle-waddle your way into saying its something completely different when its blatently obvious where you got the inspiration from. So give Dave his credit already. I don't care if the thing ends up being named Snoo-Snoo Butterfluff, its pretty apparent the design was quasi-ganked from either the Drip Chibi or from Drip himself.

I knew it looked exactly like drip, You don't honestly think I take anything Seriously, I was being intentionally silly for the purposes of creating drama, and it is a fascinating conversation peice. (at least for me...I'm bored out of my skull.)

We've had some "forum drama" (tm) on this subject of late, so us mods are a bit touchy about people claiming things that just ain't so. Don't take it personally, ok? Just smile and nod, and do what we said, and you can poke fun at us next week. ;-]

Drip was created by David Hopkins in 1993. I've seen the original artwork. And in case you're wondering, Drip, and pretty much all of David Hopkins' characters are copyrighted - we're talking legal paperwork, fees and everything. That said, he's usually very nice about his characters being used by others, as long as you ask and give him credit.

Basically I'm hosting Gabriel's comic as a side-project. Traditionally it was about the radio project itself (which is why I'm hosting it) although it seems to have widened its scope lately.
While I try to credit people whose characters Gabriel cameos, I am relying to a degree on others since I'm only regularly reading about three webcomics at the moment, and as Jack is not among these, this one fell through the net.
*Charles bwah ha ha!* I shall create drama by stealing Charline's character!
*Charline uhms* Ok, you go ahead and do that. :rolleyes
