This series is extreamly well-made. The voice-acting is all done by the same guy, but I think he's done a good job of it. Graphics are awsome, the story is compelling, and the humor is spot-on. Here's a taste:
BAKER: Hey, Blair. I bet you can't take that out with one shot.
BLAIR: Heh, watch me. *fires both his rifles*
BAKER: Dude, that doesn't count.
BLAIR: What? I only fired once!
BAKER: With two guns, man!
BLAIR: Yeah, each gun only fired once!
BAKER: That's not one shot, what the hell is wrong with you? I mean, why do you even use two guns anyway?
BLAIR: 'Cuz it looks cool.
BAKER: Oh my God...
BLAIR: What? It does!
JONES: Will you two stop dicking around back there and do your job?!?

This is a very good video.
It is a tribute to those who fight for freedom. They weren't factory-produced battle robots, they weren't genetically engineered supersoldiers, they weren't supernatural samurai. There was nothing special about them, except the fact that they sacrificed everything for their cause.
As Cirrus_Epix(Brian Schmoyer) so wonderfully points out,
They were the true heroes.
They were the Rebels. (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/392682)

This is genius. It's from the game 'Ultima 5', part of the ending sequence. In order to get the sandalwood box, you have to play 'stones' on the harpsichord, which opens the secret door.
Some bright spark (Tristan Miller) decided to see what would happen if you jammed something in the open doorway and played the harpsichord again. The results are... striking.

I'm not sure that I buy that. Why wouldn't you try answering Venus or Mars, then?
Besides, the state of astronomical education isn't that great anywhere in the world. Don't believe me? Answer these questions:
1.) What causes the seasons?
2.) What causes the phases of the moon?
Now compare your answers to those of Harvard graduates, who have taken all the courses necessary to properly answer those questions:
http://www.learner.org/resources/series28.html?pop=yes&vodid=216816&pid=9#
(This might be available to US IPs only)
That's weird, I had none of those misconceptions going into astronomy, the only misconception I had was that the earth wobbles toward the sun during the summer in the northern hemisphere and that it wobbled away from the sun during the winter...when in fact the earth is tilted at angle of approximately 24 degrees, half the year the southern hemisphere is close to, and facing the sun and half the year the northern hemisphere is facing the sun.
Also explaining something is a lot harder than actually showing someone something.

In a previous edition of superluser Likes Instructional Television, I mentioned Storylords, which I thought was a show where ``some kid would wind up in an alternate dimension where he had to use his l33t sentence-diagramming skills to stop the forces of Thorzuul..'' It turns out I was wrong. The actual program was Read All About It! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pg9lLi_I60)
Which still doesn't involve sentence diagrams, but does involve some sets that look like they were lifted from the Hitch-Hiker's Guide TV series (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzaTmQDC0-M).

Inspired by the Beethoven-singing scanner, here's a brief story:
A few years ago (7 in fact), I was sitting in a room talking with some friends, when we heard a song come on from the TV in another room. A couple of us looked at each other as if to say, ``Am I hearing that right?'' We ran to the TV, and this is what we saw:
That's really not appropriate music for a census ad. Especially one involving kids (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBLIgrpCJYs). (SFW)
I don't get it...

It appears to be heavily based on the Walter Carlos arrangement of Beethoven's 9th. The version used in A Clockwork Orange. Maybe I'm just being uncultured, but I think that's the connotation which SL is referring to...

I found a video with the music from Clockwork Orange on Youtube, but it's *the* scene, you know with all the ultraviolence, the old in-out, and all that. So you might want to skip it.

Yep, but they weren't called that at the time it was recorded. IIRC they did that one in 1969 or 1970... Rachel Elkind did the chorale, probably a solo voice that was then transposed over the polyphonic section using the vocoder. Getting the polyphony alone was a major undertaking since the Moog modular can only do one note at a time.
I wasn't so impressed with the film, but the music will always have a special place for me since it was hearing that album which first made me go

It was an incredibly violent, X-rated SF movie that was banned in the UK after people started imitating scenes from it, beating up tramps etc. This of course meant that all my peers wanted to see it when we were about 16. I didn't manage to see it until after Kubrick died and they were allowed to release it.
Aside from its infamy, it was also notable for it's remarkable electronic score, which was groundbreaking in 1971.
For some reason I don't see 1971 as 'old'. Which is peculiar because it's before I was born. For me, 'old' is pre-1966...
Quote from: Tapewolf on October 20, 2007, 06:28:15 PMIt was an incredibly violent, X-rated SF movie that was banned in the UK
Interestingly enough, that's not what I heard. I heard that they were planning to ban it, so Kubrick bought up all the copies of the film and refused to allow new ones to be made. It was never banned in the US. (figures)
(I will, of course, defer to the gentleman from the UK if this is not accurate)
Anyways, the concept is that to escape a murder rap, the protagonist is shown a number of violent and pornographic (and violently pornographic) films while being given drugs which make him hate whatever he experiences. During one of the films, he hears Beethoven's 9th Symphony, 4th movement (the Ode to Joy), synthesized in a similar manner to the Census ad. After that, whenever he hears this music which he once loved, he becomes violently ill.
The point is, I don't know if you want what you're advertising to be associated with ultraviolence.
Edit: Now I remember what I came back to say...the protagonist is what b-tards pretend to be.

Yes, that's a more accurate way of putting it. It was banned by
Kubrick, not the government, but for people who wanted to see it, the net result was similar.
Some time in the mid-90s there was a cinema which illegally showed it (being a copyright/licensing offence) and I knew a guy at school who had a Dutch import, but I never managed to get a copy of it.
Clips of the film were shown in a documentary about how it was 'banned', and finally in the late 90s IIRC the thing was released (now downgraded from 'X' to 18) about a month or less after Kubrick died.
Entertainingly, my brother went to an 11pm double feature back in, oh, late nineties or so.
Shown were: Natural Born Killers and A Clockwork Orange

Graphic design is a very peculiar thing. Something that looks almost identical can be a very different concept. In the Clair de Lune video, it looks almost like the guy has taken colored glass strips and set them on a table. When notes a half step apart are played together, the bars overlap and make a new color, and when the note is played, the lightness is changed, but the hue remains constant. The color scheme is Harmonic coloring (http://www.musanim.com/mam/pfifth.htm), which makes adjacent on the color wheel notes which are a perfect fifth apart.
This is really cool for a composer like Debussy, because it means that when Debussy is in the key of D-flat Major, all the notes are reds and magentas and purples, and when he plays a g-natural, it pops out as a green. Thus, Debussy's dissonance is really enhanced. In fact, I've looked at a few others done by this guy (http://www.musanim.com/index.html), and they're not as good because they don't play with this dissonance.
In comparison, the UI that you linked to is very busy. There are a ton of elements in that. You've got a lot of red blocks, all the same color, and then you've got a white line on the left and top, and a black line on the bottom and right, and a black line around all of that, and that is set inside a grey box and set on a white background, and every measure line is darker, and every octave line is blue. And nothing overlaps. It doesn't dance, like the one in the video.
The one in the video reminds me a lot of Mondrian and especially his Boogie Woogies:
Edit: And yes, I am aware that Mondrian would throw a fit about this guy using colors which are not primaries.

Assault style at 2.25 with the H&K MP-5K or Kurz (German for short) The compact version of the popular MP-5
at 2.35 we move to the H&K G36 (personally I love the look of this assault rifle)
at 3.00 its back to the the sub-machine gun class with the FN P90C with a lovely 50 round mag of 5.7mm ammo
at 3.22 we have a line up of the girls with different weapons (all listed above).
at 3.31 we have what I believe to be a M104 shotgun
at 3.38 its back to the .50 cal rifle, and I know I might get told off for this but man watch the butt jiggle!! :D
And at 3.47 to the end we are back the the 7.62mm M60E
Edit: I found the .50 Cal rifle. It is a ArmaLite AR-50 sniper rifle.

Enough with the Trajan (http://www.goodiebag.tv/episodes/06_trajan_is_the_movie_font.htm)! (please ignore the fact that this guy is using Helveeta, the epitome of overused)
And a murder mystery based on Trajan (http://www.veer.com/ideas/etched/).
The sad thing is that Trajan is actually a really cool typeface. It was used for the inscription of Trajan's Column, which is held up as the finest example of Roman square capitals. But now it's used for everything (http://www.veer.com/ideas/etched/), and a lot of people are getting sick of it.

On Happiness : Aristotle said, "Happiness depends on ourselves." I don't know if this is relevant, but Aristotle used to masturbate a lot. Like a lot a lot.
On Why There Are No Female Philosophers: There were actually a few female philosophers at one time. We traded them for some feta cheese. It was really good cheese.
On Loss: If you drop a drachma in the vomitorium, just let it go. Let it go.
On Plato's Republic: It's good. It's no Da Vinci code, but it's good.
On Punctuality: Being the last man to an orgy is never a good idea.
On Vacations: I took my girlfriend to Lesbos last summer. Boy, that was a big mistake.
On Chinese Philosophers: I love the Chinese philosophers. Smart guys. The thing is, a half hour after talking to them, I'm hungry for more knowledge. Ha Ha. Is that a bit racist?
On Life: Life. It's bigger. It's bigger than you. And you are not me. The lengths that I will go to, The distance in your eyes. Oh no, I've said too much.
On Medicine: Hippocrates. So overrated. For my money, nothing cures a head cold better than a good blood letting.
(the other Hungry Man bits are good, too)
...on Democracy: Is it just me, or is that new senator from Thebes really cute?

Kids! There's nothing more cool than being hugged by someone you like.
But if someone tries to touch you in a place that makes you feel uncomfortable, THAT'S GOOD.
It's your body! Someone you like has the right to touch you.
So what do you do?
First, you say THAT'S GOOD.
Then, you get someone you like.
Then, you get outta there!
Most important, you gotta touch someone you like.
Then you touch someone you trust,
like your parents, your teacher, a police officer.
Lol, the "Sonic Sez" stuff is funny. There's one for alcohol (Drinking half a can of beer can get you drunk), stupidity (1. Stay in school. 2. Stay in school. 3. Looks OK, but without having seen the original it's a little difficult to work out how much of it you've replaced and whether what you've redubbed it with is the original script or something you've made up...
Now, I wasn't sure whether to post this in the Keep, the Tower of Art or what, so I'll just post it here, it's a sort of music video made by crossing some Morrowind footage with one of my songs:

And there's the problem. It seems that some of the songs are still under copyright, despite the fact that recordings of the same songs are now in the public domain.
Anyways, it looks pretty good. My spies also report that promotional copies of the film are being sent out to people who donate to the cause.

I love the wurlitzer line, that's great. The sound mix itself was

The max storage size is at 256GB now, which is getting good, but it first needs to get near HDDs and then needs to go past them to get prices to the point where they are per-GB competitive with HDDs. I expect it will take at LEAST 5 years to go this, if not longer, but when it finally happens... oh man, I can't wait!
