i'd give you a cookie, but obviously you're too far away for me to give it to.. :)
either way, it's tablet practice, i needed to work on my furs in photoshop, so what better excuse, no?
Jebus! that gave me a heart attack!!
Heh, nicely done. Perhaps it's just me but I'm seeing it as a bit more creepy than cute >:3
It's too happy. It's obviously the most evil mow ever created.

Why, thankyou. Aisha once described a dream of Pip trying to arrange an attack against the mows, "in the voice of Merlitz from the Radio Project". So I obliged...
And I still think it's funny. :mowtongue
Awesome picture there, I love the effect of the fuzziness. I could never be able to do that in Photoshop...well, not too well at any rate. :mowcookie
That's a very realistic mow. :erk
wow cool especially the hair effects.
and now i know the meaning of "it's so cute it is actually scary"
Oh GOD the little hellspawns have gone high def.
This is one of the last things you'll ever see in this life.
Mow casts Death by Cute and Fluffy.
You take 2,563 arcane damage.
You die.
Before you reach the ground your teeth dissolve and your blood crystalises to a solid chunk of candis.
Your eyes turn to raisins (cute raisins - mind you!). Your brain oozes out of your left ear in an attempt to avoid the signals from your cute raisins and takes a look for itself. It then turns to marzipan. Your bones change to licorice and your muscles and flesh will end up as vanilla-pudding. The rest will just end up as caramel or sugar-cotton.
Then you hit the ground.
And don't make fun of that!
Itcould havehappened to people before!
Cool art!
So VERY cute. :mowhappy

But still..very niftay. I couldnt do that much detailing if my life depended on it. X_x
man.. that had to take ages..
on a somewhat related note, I got the most amusing image from Tapewolfs "Last Night of the Mows" then listening to One Winged Angel :lol

i like designing some weapons, it's a hobby of mine. :3
Nice, but the other blade needs more of a point. It's almost a halberd, but you're missing an spearhead tip. It'll be of little use other than the axeblade until you sharpen the point.
heh, actually i drew inspiration from the japanese naginata for that second, smaller blade..
but yeah, the second blade could use a little redesign..

Hmm.. I think you and I may have to have a little talk about commissions >:3
Okay, criticisms on the design work:
In the words of Raoul Duke, "What kind of a maniac would roam around Vegas wearing
one black glove?" I'll assume that's just for comparison and he does actually have two.
The clothing seems to be simple and practical. I'm not known for my fashion sense so I guess that's really for others to judge. The weapon seems a little less practical but I'm assuming it has other properties than simply being a blade.
Well the thing is I don't see an edge on that part of the blade, but you pretty much have rebuilt the halberd, but with holes.
What is it with holes in blades, and for that matter, why do people then put rings in those holes.
Quote from: Manawolf on December 23, 2006, 08:34:31 PM

Less metal -> less weight? (Insignificantly) improved aerodynamic properties? I've got a cheeseknife that's rather like that - makes it a pain in the arse to wash, though. The rings business sounds pretty stupid, I'll grant.
well, i didn't put rings in the holes, that woulda been silly, anyways, when i come up with the final design.. i actually don't make a habit of drawing where the cutting edge finishes, i generally make it so one can tell from the differing tones of the blade where the edge is, and where it isn't.
a far superior representation of the blade's look can be found here:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Turnsky/chptfivecover.jpg
edit: i think it looks better in this than the other one.
as for the gloves, yeah, i will intend for there to be a pair, but the bracer is one of a kind..
It still needs more of a tip or a curve to it, otherwise it's not going to dig very deep. You should also work on emphasising the blade edge, most do this by having the edge look extra shiny.
But then again I only look at art, I don't draw it. Plus, if you were going for that polearm blade you said you were modeling it after, then it becomes a little redundant with an axeblade, as using either blade looks like the second one would slow it down. This is why the halberd was made, to stab at farther away enemies and then slash if they try to get too close.
I'm all about practicality, because FFX just took the unsual designs way too far.
Maybe this will help, or not: http://www.supermegatopia.com/comics/weaselboy.php?thisLink=wb07-06.gif
Here we go, a little redesign, as well as a new bengahli sigil in addition to another one i created a while back (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Turnsky/axensigils.jpg)
i love creating things, particularly concepts, they just evolve into a way where it'll cool yet functional..
eg: Katana = cool and functional (cloud's FF7AC First Tsurugi sword = COOL, but sadly not functional.. but methinks DMFA's Dan would love one nonetheless. :mowwink )
and some fanarts...

actually the strips are only saved in a 70% jpeg compression format, any loss is invisible to the naked eye. my current archives date back to early '04, any previous comics are somewhere on my HD, either way, i managed to fill up 3 DVD's with the PSD's alone..

Oho... so the entire series still exists in high-res, then? Very interesting...
Anyway. Regarding the Dan's Headwings picture, I was just wondering if you ever read Vince Suzukawa's strip
The Class Menagerie (http://www.theclassm.com)? The youth grabbing his headwings puts me strongly in mind of his art style. If I had the archives with me I could probably find a frame of Kevin or someone with that feline expression of joy. Perhaps later..
Regarding the Foxfire prototype which you posted here... if I could figure out the passkey business on your strips' forum, I would add my voice to the others saying "keep it as A4!". So I'll do it here.
Apart from the fact that it's what you've been doing thus far and from outside I don't see a pressing need to change, many of the strips which I consider to be among its finest moments so far are those which make full use of the A4 format. Like
this one (http://foxfire.comicgenesis.com/d/20050408.html), which would have been difficult to do justice in a DMFA-shaped strip as far as I can see.
Of course Amber will jump to that format herself when the need arises, e.g.
strip 293 (http://missmab.com/Comics/Vol_293.php), so I guess it remains an option even with the small-format strips.

yeah, ClassM used to be one of my favorites until it ended.. a shame, that.
and yeah, i know people's aversion to changing format, but i also know that readers inherantly fear change..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Turnsky/ffc20070110.jpg this i made last night.. i figure that the smaller strip format would suit me until i need some extra space, then 'boom', i just make it bigger.
*cough* "soliders" ? (before you go posting it on your site, n stuff)
ssshh >.> <.<.. either way, i'm trialling the new format for two months next year, see how it goes, i'm already liking it, myself, since i'm actually able to make a strip or a page in a day.
mm. keep the story flowing, as it were, with you able to feel like you're making progress.
I think that's a good idea. If you feel more able to make smaller strips, the reader gets the same volume of output, but more reliably - if you miss a single strip, they miss only a quarter of a weeks updates, rather than a half. Or so, changing variables to match...
Besides - it boils down to, it's your comic. You do what makes you happy. If that makes your readers happy, great, but let's not make your readers happy at the expense of making you miserable. That way lies a lack of comic at all. :-)
Well, whatever works is best. I must admit I'm a sucker for consistency though and A4 is better for people like me who are interested in hardcopying them. >:3
Of course, as Llearch said (and I somehow missed off my own post last night) it's your baby so ultimately what matters is that you enjoy doing it.

True that a4 is better for hardcopies, but you should see my sketchbook, it's filled with margins.. =p..
this works better for me time-wise, since i've already made a week's worth of updates, working on a fourth comic, and mocking up a 3d model for use as the main set piece and background for later issues...
(i use a kitbashing type of modelling program that lets me put together more complex set pieces for the comic.. the one i'm working on is the most complex so far..)
i'm also preparing a piece for free comic book day, so that's genuinely made for dead tree format. >:3

Wow. If that thing is inhabited they're going to have some very, very strange tidal effects. The big one is probably going to be able to warp the crust so it's likely very prone to daily earthquakes and a lot of volcanic activity. I'm not sure I'd want to live there >:3
By the way, did you ever get anywhere with the commission experiments?
Interesting weaponry, lovely Naginata variant if not a bit busy design.

all a matter of perspective my magnetic tape-wrapped friend. >:3 i plan to make the moons "smaller" according to planetside views.
i'm getting there, i haven't drawn much in the way of quadrapeds before (let alone 'taurs) , so i'm in need of a fair bit of practice.. :mowdizzy The lack of any how-to's and simple directions on the internet isn't helping the situation, either.
yeah, the weapon's design is a bit busy, it has an offensive, as well as decorative, purpose...

Anyway, if you're accepting the commission we'll have to get down to brass tacks, payment, format, resolution etc.

True, but even so, the fur isn't then supposed to -create- muscles where there aren't any.
eg, the calf, or the left edge of the buttock...
Not that I'm trying to be picky, I'm just saying what looks slightly out of place...

Now that is interesting... I've just noticed that the feet are plantigrade. I'll have to see if I can find a shot of Tekhan's feet, but the wendigo most definitely have digitigrade feet...
Not necessarily. It depends on the design of the boots that were mentioned a while back.
.. I'll admit they -look- plantigrade. But, on the other side of the coin, there's the fact that most of the boots that the artist sees are plantigrade, too, so he may not have a mental concept of what a digitigrade boot looks like. :-)
Also bear in mind your average boot does have to deal with, say, a ladder...

Oh, he does. I'll have to find it, but they do get digitigrade shoes later on in the strip...
IIRC, they got offered, but nobody actually stumped up, so to speak, with the hardware.
Unless it was offscreen, which is possible.

bengahl has plantigrade feet, like we humans do, it's not an uncommon thing amongst my comic's races, Manitou are much the same, in reality the diversity between plantigrade and digitgrade in both the bengahli and manitou races are pretty much like right or left handedness with most people today, basically it's up to how i draw them, really. :3

The Terrati (singular: Terrata)
The Terrati are among the most diverse and common of the races on Ariannia,. Socially, only groups on the fringes tend to fraternise with other races. Others prefer to stay cloistered with their own kind, a hallmark of the aristocratic nature of the Terrati's "high society".
In a Broad sense, terrati are quite often influenced by both Charisma and gold, there have been exceptions to this, but for the lower echelons of Terrati society, the Glimmering metal and a few suave words holds great sway over honor.
Their history is quite often littered with conflict and conquest, some are true, others are an exaggeration. The many milennia-old battle with the nigh legendary Thae'lith is true to a point, as many relics of that society, and its passing still exist. The Grand structure referred as "the dawnspire" which is situated in the middle of the imperial complex, is one grand example of this, and is the Seat of modern-day Terrati imperialism.
Notable Figures: Manas Orahn Grandus; Manas is the current emperor of the Terrati imperial court, and has done much to sooth the frayed nerves of other, Subjucated races, raticularly the Scenari. Some would say he is merely ensuring his power-base. "The Wizard-King", the name Manas is often referred to, is a very shrewd man.
The woman with with the mug or pint reminds me of a teacher when I was in middle school strange enough
Is he trying to polish the blade, or remove his fingers?
See, if you're polishing the blade, you hold the polishing cloth flat, so you don't remove the edge. And if the blade has a back, you work from the back to the front, again, so you don't blunt the edge, and also so you don't slice your hand on the sharp bit.
Generally speaking, putting your fingers around sharp things and clutching is a guaranteed way of leaking. :-]
All in my ever so arrogant opinion, of course...

This happens when you click on the books. The dragon wakes up and remarks "Don't touch those. He'll have a fit if he sees you."
Brandywine was probably one of the highlights of that game, IMHO, if not the whole series. The wizard was just loopy and the dragon tries to keep him in check while making sarcastic comments to the player.
"What brings you here, boy? Are you taking orders for cheese?"
"This is Brandon, you old dolt. You know? The one on the quest to overthrow Malcolm's power?"
"I knew that. So, prancer. You're a dancer?"
(Dragon rolls eyes and goes back to sleep)
**EDIT**
I've just gone over the sketches again. It's making me impatient to see the final versions, particularly 'overlook'.
As for the dragons, are they intelligent?

Nicely done. The only one I'm not sure of is the lower one in sketchy2. I'd hazard a guess that it's Wildy, though...

Hoorah, ferrets.
i find it strange that sometimes sketchy pieces like theese are nicer to look at then ones that have been cleaned up, inked, and colored.
these have more character, feel more organic, and make me chuckle a bit.
QuoteThe supreme irony of life is that hardly anyone gets out of it alive.
yeah, sometimes i think that as well.. but then i think about how much of a pain they are to color. :<

I was going to remark it seems terribly fitting yours was above mine, cause all you'd have to do is either chew your way down, or go 'backstage' and haul me out from where I was peeking from....
But then again, I'm not for eating.

*grrrs at the slinky ferret* You're only not for eating cuz I can't find someone to draw it! That's the ONLY thing saving you! But one day... oh yes, one day! >:3
Ah, so that's where Tape and Janus got their shiny new avatars from! I should really follow more threads and spend more time on the forum! xD
Lovely work, I gotta say, and a very fitting image for each of them! :)

The mow is from Christmas. Turnsky puts the new stuff at the end of the thread - not the start - so you'll be wanting this page:

I am kinda wondering ... do you do requests for the avatars?
not generally, i stick them in a little space in the back of my mind when i feel like it, the avatars i did there were pretty much on a whim.
i do the same for cameos, depending on my needs, etc, the odd extra or such can come in handy now and again.
oh well I could always try to ask ^^
p.s. your drawing styl has improven in a very short time compared to other artists I am watching. I like it a lot

a couple of works in progress, nothing complete, when i'll update first post accordingly when i do have something a little more...satisfactory.
Is that an experiment with the wings on the Thae'lith? The lower feathers seem to be much more clearly-defined than I remember seeing in your art before.
