Title: Street Fighter
Post by: Nikki on September 30, 2006, 08:10:08 PM
i looked through all threads and saw no street fighter.

INJUSTICE!!

i am proud to say that the very first video game i EVER played was Street fighter II, and i was always either Blanka, Ryu or Chun-Li.

I would like to know if there is a way for me to find that game on the internet so i can play it again. i would still be playing it, but, after many years, my Super nintendo has finally died

*moment of silence for my Super nintendo*

and does anyone know where i can find a Super nintendo that WORKS?

oh, and Discuss Street Fighter with me as well ^w^

Your Super Nintendo died?!  D:  NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cry

You can go to GameTap.com and see if they Street Fighter there, but you have to pay for a subsription...
As for buying a new SNES, I don't think it'd be that hard to find (Ebay, Amazon, garage/yard sales, flea markets...).

YAY! Street Fighter!!! I should have made this topic a long time ago. XD

I used to have Street Fighter 2 Turbo on my Snes...until i sold it. >.>

The most likely place you'll get a Snes now is either in a second hand computer game store, or on eBay.

So here's my question to anybody who's posting in this thread; What's your favourite version of Street Fighter? eg. any of the street fighter 2 games, street fighter 3 games, street fighter alpha games etc.

My favourite Street Fighter games would have to be:

Street Fighter Alpha 3 - A really great game. So many characters, and such BALANCED characters too. Hours of fun!

Street Fighter 3: Third Strike -  A truely brilliant game. It was only available on the Sega Dreamcast until it was re-released with Hyper Street Fighter 2 on the PS2 in the "StreetFighter 2: Anniversary edition". Really great gameplay an characters, as expected, but what really made me fall in love with this game was the animation of the sprites. Dear GOD, sooooooo frickin' SMOOTH. Absolutely brilliant. The one reason why i still have my dreamcast to this day!

Marvel vs. Capcom 2: Okay, so it's not officially a street fighter game, but it had street fighter characters in it. Anyways, i never thought i'd see this many characters in a fighting game! So many! This is the ULTIMATE crossover fighting game, in my opinion. Pitting Marvel Characters against Street Fighter characters is so much fun! A truely AWESOME beat 'em up.

Capcom vs. SNK 2: While not as good as Marvel vs. Capcom 2, it is still a great game, even though some characters are definitely "better" than others. But on the other hand, that's part of the challenge, isn't it? This is the ultimate crossover game of people who are big fans of the Capcom and SNK fighting games. A game which i still play the hell out of to this day. Plus, it has the best sprites in a crossover, in my opinion (only second to the street fighter 3 sprites). Don't get me wrong, the Street Fighter Alpha sprites are great, but the CvsS sprites just appeal to me more.

So...um...yeah.... >.>

yay street fighter!!! i'd kick ass with Zangief, Alex, Ibuki, Bison or Dan anyday  >:3

I think the best series if SF3.

SFA3 is great too but the notoriously bad move detection is a pain. it needs a miracle to pull off a final atomic buster.

and you can find all SF you need here:

Im still waiting for a proper sequel... and not another Street fighter [insert number] + [Insert subtitle]

I liked 3rd Strike if only they would just nerf Urien a bit so he wouldnt be such a tourney favorite.

Zangief and Hugo FTW!

It's all about Akuma. Soooo badass.

Also, Oro from Street Fighter 3. Anybody who fights with one arm to give others a fair fight is a total badass in my book.

unfortunately (?) you'll need a DC or a PS2 to play SF3.... or at least a big arcade house near to your house  :mowdizzy

I personally didn't get it... Capcom worked extra hard to do the anims for the game, toe the point it's comparable to very few other games (such as Garou: mark of the wolves)... and then puts it on a limited amount of platforms

Ah yes, darling Makoto. A kickass character if you know how to use her. She was originally meant to be designed as Ryu's sister, but due to the fact that it would clash with Ryu being an only child orphan who was taken in (and trained, obviously) by his master, Gouken (the parents are unknown), unsurprisingly they decided to scrap that just make her a separate character entirely.
Title: Re: Street Fighter

she coulda been a long lost sister. You know how those stories go. "WOT?! SISTER? But I'm an only child! sis :< *happy ending*"

makoto is cool indeed but out of SF3-spawned girls my prize still goes to Elena, she's got some neat moves and tall women = win.

but my fave char of SF3 overall (maybe the whole SF series, competing with Dan) would have to be Alex, he kicks some serious butto

Title: Re: Street Fighter
Post by: King Of Hearts on October 04, 2006, 12:58:50 AM
Im rather creeped out that Bison is using her body after Alpha...

what IS up with that!? Why does Bison even bother with using the FEMALE dolls as his next body?

Rose in Namco x Capcom however? IMPRESSIVE. Just put her between two or three high MP bosses without Psychic immunity then cast WORLD on your team members then regenerate her MP with SOUL STEAL. I had once had three full turns of my entire team before the enemy could get a chance to attack.

I like Elena, though I rarely see anyone being good with her. She's easier to use than Oro and Necro, 'ats fer sure but she doesnt really stand out. Even during the first SFIII, most of her thunder as female participant was stolen by more competetive Ibuki.

Dudley is also a good fighter, while he has no kicks, he can mix it up with strength and speed quite efficiently. They need to change his Cross Counter so it wouldnt take any damage though to make him perfect... its annoying.

Motoko... she feels like Seth from King of Fighters, quite effective to use but has very boring moves. In truth Id rather they just put in a grown up Sakura in 3rd strike instead.
Title: Re: Street Fighter
Post by: Leafar on October 04, 2006, 05:45:02 AM
*ahem*
--->MAKOTO<---

Seth sux, he is boring because he sux...but Makoto came to show how strong a girl can be...(sakura always was a -----> (http://images.americanas.com.br/produtos/item/184/5/184577g.gif) )

i mean...sakura...when victorious (almost never) dancing like a teenager...ok...i don't have the crappest idea how a fighter can be so plain...and the moves? R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S and uneffective...slow...pretty awesomely slow...and obvious...it is as often to win as her as it is to win as dan...two dumbasses that only came to show how SNK is superior to capcom...
storyline, bosses, challenge...everything...but Makoto surely is a exception...extremely interesting character...her story, dojo's and old school stuffs, fast as hell, strong, killer combos, UNPREDICTABLE, and sometimes even cheater!i see why she is so popular in brazilian arcades, the best right shot from capcom after Akuma/Gouki that's for sure...
Title: Re: Street Fighter
Post by: Gareeku on October 04, 2006, 06:42:03 AM
1. Uh, dude, Sakura danced like a teenager because she was a teenager, hence the japanese school uniform she wears. In my opinion. And how the hell was she slow? O_o Sakura is not a crap character. While she may not be as powerful as others, her moves can be pretty effective if you know how to use them. Her take on the shoryuken (i forget the name she gave it) is pretty effective, in my opinion. Plus she has some pretty good super combos too. I really hope they reintroduce her as a grown up in a sequel...if capcom ever get round to making/releasing it, that is...

2. I thought this was pretty obvious, but Dan is a goof character. Goof characters often aren't that strong, surprisingly. Dan is a mockery of Ryo and Robert Garcia from the Art Of Fighting series (made by SNK).

3. Please do not come into a Street Fighter thread be all "LOL SNK is superior to capcom". This will only cause bad feeling, including my own as i am quite the Street Fighter fan, and I personally don't want that in here.
Title: Re: Street Fighter
Post by: Leafar on October 04, 2006, 07:02:43 AM
i like street fighter myself too..and i know sakura is a teenager that wasn't my point dude...
and i also know what dan is WHAT  i mentioned was he was weak...so is sakura...that's why she was dumped...and sakura IS slow...you can never hit one of those fireballs in some REAL opponent...as for someone that makes part in almost all championships in my state and already won 7 ( :> ) i think i can say sakura is slow, i would never be beaten by her...none real player could be...as for snk vs capcom, deal with it...it was only my opinion demonstrated, as my rights grant me to power to do so as long i don't affect others rights...
i am sorry if you don't agree, i wish i could come up with better and more polite/nice things to say, but i can't...but honestly, this thread isn't your house so...

The reason i said "f**k you" to you is because you deserved. I do not swear at anyone if they do not deserve it.

The reason? Let me explain:

First of all, you had every right to be annoyed at me for not believing you've apparently won 7 fighting game tournaments. I accept that.

However, what i do not accept is the fact you then proceeded to insult me after i had apoligised for being suspicious. Let me quote...

Quote from: Gareeku on October 04, 2006, 07:07:45 AMForgive me for being a pessimistic asshole, but i don't believe you. Unless I see evidence, that is. It's just the way I am.

Noticed the words "Forgive me" in that first sentence, I was apolising for what i typed before i even typed it, and as the quote says, its just the way i am. This is an internet forum, after all, which is something you seem to be forgetting...especially since you threaten to punch people.

Now, as I have said, i basically said sorry. However, you then just had to type this in your responding post:

Quote from: Leafar on October 04, 2006, 07:18:14 AMi don't usually care for likes of people like you but you can ask JackMcslay...

"I usually don't care for the likes of people like you"...Hmmm, sounds pretty insulting to me. By typing that, you've basically said "You're not good enough. You're just a piece of s**t so i don't have to explain myself to you". Now maybe its just me, but reading that, especially after apologising in the previous post, is pretty damn insulting and angers me. What you have done there is taken my apology, stamped on it a few times and thrown it back in my face.

Maybe I shouldn't have apologised, seeing as it did absolutely nothing to prevent you from being a total asshole.

Okay.  Here's what we're going to do.

Leafer:  I know English is your second language.  I tend to forget that.  I would suggest continuing to work on your puncuation and capitalization, as I think that makes people think less of your posts.  It's sometimes hard to follow them, and I don't think it's necessarily all rooted in your English being somewhat broken.  (although, overwhelmingly, you do quite well.  There are some english speakers who are much more incoherent.)

Additionally.  I would like you to think about your post before you post it.  Think about whether it is on topic, relevent to the topic being discussed, and appropriate in nature.  Try to avoid hitting on people.

Aridas:  Stop being mean to Leafer.  If you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all in his direction.

Both of you:  If I see you two continuously reporting each other's posts to the mods, I'm going to be pissed.

Xze:  Because you spend a lot of time on the forum, I'm putting YOU in charge of letting me know if they get out of control.  This month is hell at work for me, and I'm short on time.  Please PM me with any links you think are relevent.  Try to make sure they weren't posted before today.  If you don't think you are up to it, let me know and I can draft someone else.  I know life's been crazy for you.

Now, I am going to go watch mindless television, and try to actually sleep tonight.

I do consider Dan a great char. his super moves are not actually behind the others in terms of damage, specially his hishou burai ken. not to mention that his danku kyaku is far more effective than ryu/ken/akuma`s tatsumaki senpuu kyaku. he can also be pretty fun to play with on MVC2 as well. and CVS2 geez... seriously, he is the best karate fighter in that game

sakura is pretty good too, a sweeping super move? damn...
Title: Re: Street Fighter
Post by: King Of Hearts on October 04, 2006, 11:41:24 PM
Sakura is  not exactly high tier tournament material but she can be utilized effectively. She was the first character in SF who had a super that hit low with the Haru Ichiban which has great recovery and abusable even with lvl 1, [do a crouching forward kick to push yourself away if it is blocked] an effective trait when mixing it up. Her short shunpu kyaku also has great priority as a counter. Her Shooken by itself, admittedly can be seen a mile away but the jab version can be used as anti air, and the fierce version is a standard in her combos.

Storywise, Sakura is a protege, from just watching Ryu and getting some odd advice from Dan, she was able to reach her level. She was able to create her own version of the Hadoken much faster than Ryu or Ken even with proper training.

The biggest mistake of people playing as Sakura is treating her as a shotokan fighter, she only looks like one.

For the most effective female character in SF I give that to Chun-Li in any incarnation. High priority, effective supers, and enough speed and reach to be a threat to any comer.

For the hardest character to master... for me it would be the strechy ones, Dhalsim and Necro.

Oddly enough Ive seen them kick reasonable amounts of ass in the hands of a master, its just you tend to dismiss them in battle as they usually dont do insane powerful combos. You'd just suddenly find yourself with little life and realize all that poking they do actualy adds up in damages.

Another person Im having trouble with using is Oro, I find his attack window quite small and the damage dealt hardly commensurate the risk and he takes a bit of damage. Though I like using him for fun, Tengu stone packs quite a wallop if you play your cards right.

I like how everyone continued their discussion after Leafer left without giving him a second thought. xD

BACK ON TOPIC PLEASE...

KOH: I'm going to have to agree with you with the stretchy characters being hardest to master. Oro too, though at the moment i'm trying quite hard to get used to using him. >.>

Hey look... All I'm saying is that E. Honda has a giant penis.
That's the smartest line in this whole thread...

I dont have much problem with using counter characters. Using Geese Howard back in Fatal Fury Special back in the SNES days gave me my groove in using that.

I still find Karin usable once you get the timing on her Kourenken Mujen kyaku is also a luncher so yay for juggles. Her mix is good and not as insane to use as say... Angel from KoF. I only use her at versus games with friends because then I can do mind games against my friends woo~ Im gonna hit high! whoops, I mean low. Oh! I meant overhead, silly me.

My problem is using characters who are too counter based in nature like Kasumi Todo in AoF/KoF.
Sure she's got that one hard hitting combo, but everything else relies on keeping the enemy away with her waves and setting up counters.

Ugh, i -really- do not like Kasumi Todo. -_-;

Karin, on the other hand, I find quite fun to use. Yes, she has counter-based attacks, but she's also got non counter-based attacks, meaning that this nice mix makes a very good character to use, though i'm still in the process of trying to master her. >_>;

Speaking of street fighter, I am loving the Street Fighter Legends: Sakura comics

Its quite lighthearted and Udon's anime-ey style complements the characters well.

Ryu trying to use the internet messenger was a great scene.

one thing I got curious... have you guys also heard of weird myths about street fighter? I have heard some weird stuff like:

- the woman flailing her arms on bison's (jap: vega) stage on SFII is his mom
- if you rotate the controller 70 times you'll be able to do a screw piledriver on the car from the bonus stage of SFII
- dhalsim uses pepper for his fire attacks

Well there was that Shen Long story that eventually gave us Gouki/Akuma.

I remember I think the stories is that you had to beat ryu using only kicks or something then a bell would sound and Shen long challenges you and has everyone's moves save for Dhalsim.

Man I feel old for remembering this stuff... even the whole pronounciation of Guile's name Its GOOLEY I tell you! No its obviously GILL!

I haven't heard of the Sheng Long thing but I've heard of things about secret characters when you finish the game on hardest with only perfects, which is ridiculous

btw, I hear there's people who claim that Guile is actually General Uile, which is not worst then calling Zangief by Uedegar (due to the narrator saying U.S.S.R. when going to his stage, which can be misinterpretated due to poor sound quality)

The sheng long prank was what inspired Capcom to create Akuma, so thank Electronic Gaming Monthly. :)

You can fight Akuma in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo as a secret final boss. Some people say you have to get a certain amount of perfects without having to use any continues, other say you don't have to get the perfects. Its been a while since i've played it, so i'm not sure which is true.
