His expression isn't so much "OhcrapI'mgonnadie!", it's more "Well, darnit. That sucked.", which makes me think there's more going on here.

On the other tentacle, Dan has experience with life-n-death situations and would never think "OhcrapI'mgonnadie!", but rather "Hmm... serious situation.  How do get I out of this one."

I wouldn't be surprised if his main problem at the moment is either his promise not to fight cubi or figuring out how to defeat whoever without killing them.

I have to say that I seriously doubt he is in any danger for one simple reason,  no one in SAIA is STUPID enough to piss of Fa'Lina (Who always seems to know everything that happens in her academy since she is the academy).
