Just got my copy today. This is the game that started it all.
though it is fairly lacking the production value and the way it was put together is excellent. :kruger It even has nice calm serene music in the mountains.

I've never bothered. I keep hearing too much back and forth crap as to what does and doesn't suck care of the 90% of the RPG populous who can't tell their elbow from there ass. Thanks to them I have a "spectacular" game called Xenosaga sitting on my shelf. The whole experience has put me into a fetal position when it comes to RPG's. I don't know if I should finish the thing or just send it back to Gamestop (which won't help much since I've already owned it for over a month).

Don't give me any suggestions people... it can only end badly. :redrum

I only suggest the best games, trust me. Suikoden is great, just not 4. don't start with 4. shadow hearts is pretty good, if you can get covenant.

Xuzaf D

Well, I'm near to trusting your game sense, but tell me my Illy- what would you say are the best three RPG's you've ever played?

ilpalazzo

Suikoden 2, Final Fantasy 6, and Parasite Eve

Xuzaf D

Oh good. Parasite Eve is one I like too, and though I can't say anything about FF6 directly, I do know that every Final Fantasy I've played with the exception of VII has always managed good gameplay and a mostly good story. Music and enemy design have always been strong too, despite the three to ten sub-species we see from game to game. At least FF never made me fight rats on a boat or horned demons with inexplicable fetish gear.

Maybe I will look into Suikoden (maybe).

ilpalazzo

Yeah get Suikoden 5. I'm loving it............ alot.

King Of Hearts

S2 is my favorite. Lovely story and everything is well bundled for its time. S5 is good as well if not for some minor Graphics problems.

The good thing with Suikoden is that the story is about the people, about the war, about their strugles, not the usual RPG fare of going up against a god, a demon, destiny or some metaphysical mumbojumbo, [well aside from S3, but its story took a nosedive after the Flame Champion is revealed] The runes, as powerful as they are take a back seat or blends to the character's own story and does not take over it completely.

Blac_Slayer

And on a minor note, I agree with Ilpalazzo.  Don't start with Suikoden 4.
