That's a good point.
I'd have to agree that mindshields probably only blocks from reading specific thoughts, but not the emotions attached to them.

Maybe there's an Empathy shield out there as well ?
Maybe that's why Fa'Lina doesn't emit any emotions ?

Offcourse, there's the whole *why* she would put on an "Empathy shield" ...
Maybe she's really raging inside and doesn't want the children to be  disturbed by that ?

Or she just prefers people off-balance.  Or it aids in bluffing.  Or all three. 

Think about it.  The average Cubi is used to reading emotions and surface thoughts.  Imagine going through a real life conversation with your eyes closed.
