A Bike-a-thon for my company!

I'm thinking of doing a bike-a-thon to raise some money for my animation company.  It's something I can put together fairly quickly and easily, as I've done them in the past for my church and other events.

I think the basic plan will be to have a sponsorship drive for a basic 50 miles, then in addition have an Ebay sale of more miles, which would be cumulative:  the more money raised, the more I have to pedal!  I do need to decide how much this additional per-mile rate should be, as I've seen some strange Ebay auctions go up to absurd levels... and I really don't think I can manage an entire trip across the continent.   :P

I'll borrow a GPS device from someone so I can be tracked at points along the route, or see if someone can triangulate with my cell phone.  And I'll bring along a video camera to document my struggle against the vast wilderness of NJ:  Man vs Pine Barrens.  I'll do all the narration in a British accent too.   :3

I'm planning currently to do it in late October or early November, when it's cool enough that I won't overheat.  I did a training run this past Sunday and managed 57 miles in 6 hours, and even though it was only 75F, I was incredibly hot!  Temps of between 45 and 60F would be ideal for a long ride.

UPDATE:  It'll likely be mid-November or early December, to get past the election furvor, but get done before Christmas.  Though, I'm getting depressed that my economic predictions are becoming fact one after another.  Oh well, if Walt Disney managed to hold his studio together through a Depression, so can I!

Update #2:  On Sunday I rode my bike slightly over 80 miles!  Aaaand from how I felt after that, I'm going to cap the miles auction at 50 additional miles for 100 total, instead of 120.  I don't think my body will be able to handle more than that in one day.   I keep forgetting that I weigh 60 lbs more than I did years ago.  My endurance is the same, but the higher resistance with that extra weight wears my legs down faster.  :P  It's like a car's milage unloaded vs having an additional 2/3 of its weight added on in passengers and baggage.  I need Mab's Stickman Diet Plan!

You'll be fit after that.

Nah.  I actually don't lose much weight from it.  I don't have too much fat to burn.  I estimate I have about 15 pounds of fat I could shed.  The rest is just my muscle and bone mass finally getting to where it should be.  I was a stick in college.  At age 18 I only weighed 105 lbs... technically anorexic with a BMI of 13!  I could eat 5,000 calories a day and not gain an ounce.  Now I'm 166, slightly over the ideal weight for 5' 10".

My point still stands.

But I eat ravenously after the long bike ride.  It kinda negates the calories burned.

My cousin, Justin Debree, did a 430-mile trip on a surf board up the Florida coast to raise money for cancer research. Surf's up dude He actually GAINED weight since he was eating so much to keep up his energy!  XD

He also broke two world records.  Beware of sharks :3

Kind of a tangent, but what kind of bike do you have?

I don't recall offhand what the old one I'm using for training is.  It's just some cheap bike I got 15 years ago and now the axles and bearings are worn so badly everything is starting to wobble.  I expect it'll just break apart one of these days.   :3

I just got a new one, which I believe is called a "Roadmaster" mountain bike, which I got because I also ride down sandy trails and need something with wide tires for traction.

I also got it cuz it was also cheap, cuz I'm poor.   :<
