Hey, thanks for the recording.  I wasn't able to get 499 at all, even with Tezkat's suggestion.  However I did listen to 497.
I suppose in some ways I'm hoping for a drop-in replacement, which isn't quite the case with this.  Seraline had a higher-pitched, whining kind of voice.
I can't complain of course, and what you're doing is good - even the accent seems to match.

Anyone else have any comments?

We're okay for Lorenda, actually.  James (who voices Dan) suggested his fiancĂ© for the role, and she's a good match.   The two main female voices we're missing are Aary and Destania.  I'll have to check that Blade is still up for Fa'Lina, mind.

Tezkat, if you did manage to get 499, is there any chance you could mirror it or something?

Actually, Aurawyn, would it be worth emailing me that file?

I don't think I ever did re-mix strip 805 for Tezkat's Jyrras, so here it is:

Oh that sounds just as funny as it reads : :)

Okay, this isn't the a final version. I'm just putting this out as a sounding board to see what people think. I took a different tactic with Albanions little jaunt.

And yeah, the mouth noises are getting in there, I'm going to have to do something about them.

So yeah, any direction, advice etc.

Heh... I thought I only sounded like my Dr. Ink in that part where he does the mad Fae bit at the end. Then again, I don't think my Dr. Ink sounds like my Dr. Ink anymore. It's been, what, three years since I made those recordings? :animesweat

With the mention of Ink in another thread, I started wondering (again) what he sounds like since Amber uses such a different font for him than anyone else. Where can I find a finished sample of him?

I don't have any samples in isolation, however I do have an ensemble recording.  This will need to be remixed with Brun as Abel at some point but here we go.  I hadn't listened to this for a while - James has pulled off a stellar job here, IMHO:

http://dmfa.it-he.org/dmfa/saia3_2.wav.mp3

**EDIT**

Sofox, the new recording is much better.  The big problem you're having at the moment is popping, the burst of breath sound you get with 'P's and similar soundings.  The quick and easy way to avoid that is to talk across the mic instead of directly into it, though if you're using a headset that might be difficult.

Hmm... if using a headset, try pushing it off to the side so it's not capturing so much of your breath. If that doesn't work, or significantly reduces the sound quality due to not being at the right range/angle, try holding a finger or pencil up between your mouth and the mic. That will dissipate some of the air before it hits the mic and reduce popping.

You and Tez are still the resident pros though, with the equipment to boot. :3

Ya, I think SAIA was one of my big leaps of improvement. I'd still like to go back and fix all my old lines though, like with DvP where we first started. I finally got my new mic as well, or at least my fiance has it with her and will drop it off next time she's able to come into town.

Tezkat

Sweet. Can't wait to hear the new and improved you. :3

Heh... after listening to that clip, I almost want to go back and redo all my Dr. Ink lines. Fortunately, my recording PC is still totally borked from Tuesday's disk crash, so the urge dies quickly enough. :animesweat

Got new hardware and had another few shots at it (Thanks for the advice Tezkat).
Right now, I've got not one, but two voice samples of the lines.

The first thing I immediately notice is that they distort.  I don't know what you're recording on, but most software will graphically display the waveform so you can tell when it's doing this, e.g.
http://www.jpmorris.force9.co.uk/music/levels.png

Also, we have standardized on a soft 'G' for Gianna, (as if it was 'Jiarna').  Apart from that, it's not bad.  In any case, those things can be fixed with coaching.  As for Albanion, I've procrastinated enough.  It's time to collect what we have and put it to a vote.

**EDIT**

And here is the vote:

I have my new microphone! To give you an idea of how loudly I had to do my lines to take out as much noise as possible here I am talking on three different mics with my typical indoor voice. All three are about the same distance apart from the mic, except for the last one which was actually the farthest away.

Awesome.  No contest there.  What did you use as a preamp in the end, by the way?

I say it right in the test. XD

It's the MXL 990

Quote from: Tapewolf on May 18, 2008, 06:00:12 PMHow are you powering it without a preamp?
By force of personality.  :B

Ok, ok, so it's actually the USB version, so it takes power from my laptop. I was worried a bit from what I heard about a typical USB mic, but I trusted what James Alburger said about it since he has a couple himself.

It sounds good so far.  The Mac's internal squeaker emphasises high frequencies so if it's doing the bus noise thing I would probably have heard it by now.  However, all the USB devices which I've had which have done this kind of thing did it a few months after purchase, so be aware that it might go bad further down the line.

Hi everyone! Just a quick note, since I'm dropping in from a cafe and don't have my internet right now. No internet + boredom + microphone = goofing off. Wanted to know if you could use these for anything.

The first are Ann's lines from 882-884, and the others are Hannah's lines. Mostly playing with voices and accents. Just thought I'd share and see if I could be useful. :mowhappy

Not bad.  I'm not quite sure about your choice of style for Hannah - she may be dead, but I had kind of imagined her having a brighter, more perky and animated voice.

Now, I find myself in the peculiar position of needing a video clip for my current project (yes, this is a DMFA project).  I need some white noise in as high a quality as possible, say about 5 seconds worth.  Does anyone have such a thing?

You mean video snow? Most editing software can create noise effects for you. I know Premier does, but I don't have it on this machine. What program are you using?

iMovie HD, actually.  I've now managed to force it to do something similar, although if anyone has the real deal I'd still be interested.
