If you play Trickster...

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT log in for the time being.  A team of hackers has apparently compromised one or more GM accounts, and hijacked the site and game.  There have been reports of random people being banned until 2034, attemptes made to break into people's computers after grabbing their IP via the Trickster servers somehow, and a fake news release posted to the main site which contains links to sites that reportedly have keyloggers at them and other nasties.

I'm not sure if these links are accessable to non-members at this fansite forum, but a couple threads about it:

Mentioning it here since this is where I first found out about the game(from people here), and figure it's best to spread the warning.

Thanks for the info, I haven't really had the urge to play it latelly, thankfully.

I'm guessing the GM I saw last night was a fake then? I was there at Paradise when the guy showed up. I gotta tell one of my friends. <<

On another note: wow, I'm in one of the screenshots.

That seems to be the case, but Mobius apparently showed up a few hours ago in Mega to try and calm things down.  He said the bannings were in response to hacking and of all things swearing(o.O), and the initial guy that got ambushed by the GM was a mistake and he couldn't talk about it.  He also claims that the SC-xxx characters in the other thread were test characters, but hackers(some goup called Curse-X I think?) have admitted to previously playing SC-Cat and SC-Sheep both.  Either a) Mobius is still compromised, b) That was the real Mobius and he's covering it up so it doesn't cause any more of a panic, or c) same as b except the SC were created as test accounts and just got compromised by said hackers.

Either way as far as I know(I haven't gone to check yet) that announcement is still up, and apparently visiting the official Trickster site plants a tracking cookie that points to MySpace and was described as regenerative.  I'm not sure if it's safe or not yet, but I'm going to try and play it safe, and give it until tonight at least and see if the situation has clarified by then.  I still want one of those pumpkin hats! >.<

I hate to double-post, but just wanted to make sure that the update was visible.

I haven't heard any more reports of anything strange going on so it may be safe again.  The announcements have stayed up so I guess it's a case of waiting until the dates they mention and see if they follow through on it.  If you have the autologin shortcut set up, that should be safe, but personally I'm not sure if I trust the official site yet.    Unfortunately between the event ending on the 6th, and the servers going down tomorrow or shortly thereafter for a few days if the announcements are to be believed, whether it is legit or not the best time to be on is today and tomorrow. :mowsad:

Also the links I posted above will not work anymore, as the Mytrickster forum had a couple hiccups which resulted in some threads being lost.  :mowdizzy

Yeep.

I'm kind of glad I moved onto Neverwinter Nights II myself.

This gets me down.  Let's go find a bar, Khedgar.  Let's go find a bar.
