That shouldn't be a surprise, since she's the deputy leader of the entire clan.  She also mentioned it at the end of chapter 5.

Admittedly, it's been awhile since chapter 5. In any case, given this bombshell, I'm starting to harbour grave doubts about her redeemability.

She has only one goal: protecting her son. She will side with whomever will best aid her in that goal. It isn't about redeeming her, it is getting her to pick a side and stick with it.
