One of the ways to identify a witch was to look for the mark, which was the place where the familiar would suck blood from.

I second that. Kinda feels like starting a new RPG and there's a ton of lore books in the tutorial area. Lore(data) dump!

I must say that the original panel is nicely "Egyptian" coded, much like the Chozo of Metroid. Sadly, I agree with Tapewolf. Olde Timey art is best saved for "Mysterious Ancients" rather than "Asshole Slaver Ancients".

As I understand it, the creator of the Protogen species is apparently selling socks at Furdu with protogens in that style and UFOs.  Merlin was referencing that, I think - which was definitely cute, but didn't really mesh with the ZOR lore I was trying to portray.

In this setting the protogens have long since spread beyond the systems of their creation so that's less of an issue.
