Since strip 675 I think? Abel does go on to reference sensing the minds of "Rat. Rat. Rat. Sleeping rat" in strip 1053, but they don't actually show up again. I think during the Katbox era there was like a month of guest pages and somebody did one that featured them realizing Dan hadn't been around for a while, but I don't know if that's something still around.


But, yeah, the last time appearing was almost 1500, and even being referenced and not actually appearing is almost 1100...well both pages and strips ago because it even predates that format change. It's been a while.
