So... Niall is essentially commuting this guys sentence to life imprisonment...

... in a robotic body. Don't get me wrong, I don't really think he's a bad guy but he did do something wrong and he needs to receive some form of punishment. Of course, the whole "emotional 'Cubi" thing makes this matter a bit more complicated not to mention the borderline brainwashing he was receiving. This is definitely a very interesting approach to the matter all things considered.
