Furrae is a vicious old world.

In this case I hit a bout of writer's block and killed a bunch of people to help clear it.  Which worked really well, but it meant the attack set the scene for the rest of the story and couldn't be removed afterwards.
See, kids?  Sacrificing people to the writing gods does work!
