Well, Break's definitely dead.  Jinx makes a polite reaper, if nothing else.
I do wonder what happens during a war, though... would he be all "Dammit, stop killing people, give me a break!"  Or would he wait until a lull in the fighting and then "Okay - everyone who's dead, come with me please..."

What had me wondering if Dark was near death was that he also had a head-wound.  Though as has been mentioned, given that he's the drive behind the main story, it would kind of collapse without him.
Though there was a certain French film about wolves where the protagonists both died and the film rambled on aimlessly for a little while afterwards in a confusing manner before one of them came back to life.
