The comic page answered this question quite soundly, but it then prompted another question for me.  Could a Cubi, for example, take the equivalent mass of a heart or other organ in the form of several blood draws from their or another's body, or remove the organ they wish to have or any organ or body part  of equivalent mass from another living being, then use that mass of flesh or organ to assimilate it into their body and create a new or secondary organ within their body for permanent use over a specifiable period of time and concentration?

IOW:  Could a Cubi of any kind, take blood or tissue from their or another's body, and put it into their own body somehow to make a replacement or backup organ of their choosing?

Nah, sadly their shapeshifting only extends to themselves and so they don't really have an ability to assimilate other substance or flesh into themselves like that.

Besides, that sort of shapeshifting would require significant knowledge of the function and shape and arrangement of organs. Which I think we've already been informed that Cubi don't have enough knowledge of.
