My reaction to the last panel of 1251:

"Ha! The awesome face :)"

My reaction to those last two panels of 1252:

"PFFFFFffftttHAHAHAHAhahahaha *gasp* hahahahahahahaha! Ha ha... ha.

Wait, part four of a series? Good lawd Lorenda :U"

Tapewolf

Nact'larn is the only one I recognise, unless the one on the left is Fa'Lina.  It would take some nerve to ask her to star in a porn flick, methinks.

What does confuse me a little is that Nact'larn are all female.   Maybe Lorenda does have the gay after all.

FWIW I thought it was Jy's video at first, since if it's on a shelf he can't reach without some contrivance, he might subconsciously think no-one else could either.

I also register some surprise at no 'Cubi villains, and also if I were Amber I would have just said "sorry" and stolen the extra page to use as a buffer...

@ first panel, #1251:
Looks to me like a RubyQuest reference. Which is awesome.
Also, panel 3... XD

#1252:
Huh; leaving such stuff out in plain sight. Then again, this is Jy's house, isn't it? So either Lorenda brought it over  :erk or it's Jy's  :erk :erk
Either way, Amber, you are an /excellent/ storyteller! Just. Plain. Awesome.

The first page reminds me of that worlds deadliest warrior episode of Zombies verses vampires. Who wouldn't think about Zombie and Demons duking it out? :P

Considering how (despite the situation) Kria actually came to respect Fa'lina, I could imagine a lot of Demons liking a movie with Fa'lina in it. I can see Nact'Larn hanging onto Fa'lina until she used a huge mass of muffins to bribe Fa'lina into doing a few scenes.

Oddly enough, isn't it mentioned in the Clan pages that Cubi have been working the entertainment industry and doing a lot of P. R. for their race?

There are probably a couple of cubi in those films, pretending to be other creatures. The cubi in those films are probably demons/beings with make up.

It might be leaderless clans. Also, despite the above prospect being compelling , I'm pretty sure the one on the left is Hrienth , the one Aaryanna is from. Which doesn't surprise me at all. Look at the shape and look at Fa'lina's clan mark. There's no way you'd get a downwards curve like that.
The third one, i have no idea.

It takes two to make porn. The female might be Nact'larn.
Also.  :shapeshifters . The biology of it is non-functional, but that'd just mean they'd save a couple on contraception.

The likely trouble with Cubi villains is that they tend to look just like everyone else.  Alternately, given some of the happenings, making a 'cubi horror film might just be a little tasteless, similar to say, someone making an action film out of Anders Breivik's recent escapade.
Since cubi are the only race which some members of inflict violence for primary reasons, i'd imagine they are more troublesome than the rest.

Alternately, it just might be i'm talking out of my rear end, and Jyrras simply dislikes films where the villains are Cubi, since he knows some really nice ones. I mean, everyone's reactions are different - not always there's the attitude like Devin shown.

Some 'Cubi will, but I think that honour goes to the Demons, really since AFAIK their culture has a large emphasis on proving strength through force and that the weak are fair game.  That and there are a lot of Demons, so yeah.  It's not a great surprise that they're the default Bad Guy.

I was just surprised that the 'Cubi don't get a look in since their race is viewed with marked distrust.

On the other hand, the demons might kill someone more often than not, but I guess that the mess some kinds of cubi might leave are of the Stefan Svitek sort (a guy executed in Slovakia in 1989 for killing his family in such a fashion that the Public Security member called to investigate had to be given a half year leave and psychiatric treatment)
But yeah, sounds about right - i got it ass-backwards. Besides many cubi acts might be attributed to demons , too ,through clever disguise use

As far as i recall, think of demon culture with an emphasis on "Might makes right"  on many levels.  Beyond that, i'm pretty sure demons also make great villians because of their impulsiveness.  They're basically a "Joker" type villain to begin with.
I picture something like:
"WHY DID YOU BURN OUR VILLAGE TO THE GROUND AND ATTACH EVER BODY TO THAT TREE?!  :cry"
"Why not?!" *casual shrug*

I support the demon race (usually with my hands)!   Also... LOOK A DISTRACTION! -->

AFAIK having someone join the clan and become a 'Cubi like that is actually very rare.

Nope, that's about the gist of it. Just that he wouldn't be a being anymore, and thus, unless Amber has further input, male Nact'Larn.

Right, gotcha.

The other faint possibility is that there may have been male relatives who became part of the clan when it was formed, but frankly, given that the clan has actually led people to assume that 'Cubi are entirely female as a race, I would say that male Nact'Larn members are like hen's teeth :P

Max and Ruby are the main characters in Code Name: Hunter.  I'm not sure if the statements about RubyQuest and a series of children's books were a joke or not.

They appeared on the case of the video on the table in this strip.  I had to blow up the image quite a bit.

Remember, Lorenda used to live with Jyrras. It could be that when she left that movie was out of the way and was over looked when she left.

Then again I don't remember it actually being mentioned that this was Jyrras' house. It could be that Lorenda moved back out of her mother's home.

AmberCross

Clearly Lorenda has forgot that Jyras has a penchant for sneaking around on the ceiling.

As for the born female thing, I remind you all of what someone already mentioned. Gender in cubi is kind of abstract. In fact, something like 'Hollywood 'facts'' is just the sort of place that the reporter Insectis got the impression that all male cubi are really female but shapeshifted. Cause if the most celebrity cubi are the Nac'turn clan which happen to be only female unless shapeshifted... yeah. This seems FAR more likely to me than males being married in. Besides, whether or not this is true (probably not, but I like to pretend) I get the impression that people converted into a clan will actually end up with any clan quirks. So if Alexi were to somehow be made into Cyra clan her eyes would turn green. Again, this is probably not actually true, I just like to think it is cause it's neat.

Incidentally, in the last panel I totally thought Abel had learned levitation because of the shadow caused by his tail being right under his foot.

It did mention it was Jy's house. It is applied in #1252 in the bottom text. And besides, if Lorenda's mother found out about that dvd, she would watch it until it breaks. On that note Kria is no longer allowed in the echs echs echs area in the video rental store.

Hmm, Boxy... i wouldn't toss the makeup out kinda yet. Trouble is, asides from the initial appearance, which can be done with or without, making the shapeshifted makeup behave realistically (as in said flows) requires a lot more effort from the shapeshifter, than when someone just paints it on.  I think they'd use it just for simplicity.

Though to put other points of view to it.

Aniz had to do an amazing job of making sure he aged realistically to fool May, Kria and Abel. It also probably takes a little time for some to get more of the details done in shape shifting for an untrained cubi that might loose the change if surprised or distracted. Then you got to think about some that would wear make-up for the shear novelty of wearing it.

As with most things in life, the preferences may vary from cubi to cubi.

I originally meant that cubi don't play cubi in films, cubi characters are played by beings or demons. (given cubi rarity)

Considering demons and beings can't change change their appearance (guessing here) with magic they would need make up and fake body parts.

Any cubi in films are probably pretending to be something else.

It could provide some laughs/groans for any cubi watching "Oh, come on that's not a real cubi! The head wings are all wrong!"

I love you guys.  Hours of work and go figure the thing you all discuss is the thing that I took 15 seconds to add onto.

I say this in pure jest btw. :U

As some have mentioned, Nact'Larn is in fact an all female clan but the thing to keep in mind is that most non-cubi don't have access to the information you guys have (aka: Mink's book report) so wouldn't know about the clan numbers or traits.   Cubi are fairly uncommon and when you have at least two major clans invested in the video industry and interested in PR, it's going to set things on a spin.

But if anyone feels like spoilers, the thing I had in mind is that member's of Nact'Larn simply changed their aesthetic gender for the film because why not? It's simple enough to do.  Odds are most Nact'Larn have 3 screen names, one being a guy, and the average viewer isn't aware that they are three seperate individuals.

The other thing to keep in mind is that I draw the main comic with the mindset that the audience may not have read said side information as well.
