I'm probably going to be seen as a crazy person by saying that I love facial hair, growing it, looking at it, admiring it, making love to it...

So obviously I think it's quite a shame that some remarkable beards and mustaches throughout history go without nearly as much appreciation as they clearly deserve, which is why I'm going to be bringing to your attention subject A:

Placed upon the lip of any normal man this ordinary appearing mustache would either go unnoticed or be the subject of ridicule, yet displayed proudly like a trophy of great achievement by the legend that is Nick Cave it is transcended from the ordinary to the extraordinary. Extraordinarily manly.

Matched with his trademark suit, long unkempt hair, open shirt and sunglasses, this mustache completes the look, drawing parallels as a callback to the fashion of decades long since past. This man doesn't update his appearance with time, time updates its appearance with him. Clearly this is the type of mustache that says "I am a man, shortly I shall return home to my wife and children and chop firewood for my wood burning stove, now make love to me."

I first saw this mustache in the music video for Dig Lazarus Dig, since then I have neigh seen the same glorious shape pulled off so well and for that I thank you Nick Cave, yours is a mustache which truly deserves nothing but the highest of our appreciation.

Comments?

I shall, from time to time, post pictures and write comments for other poorly under appreciated facial hair. Until then however I ask those of you who also share my love, post pictures of your favorite beards or mustaches and or for the male members of the board, to obtain extra brownie points, share with us select photos of your own if you have one.

From Jaxi Dee, I thank you for your time.

I'm not sure I'd agree with you about Nick Cave being extraordinarily manly. Extraordinary, yes. Manly? Not the adjective I'd choose to label him with.

... although, if he had his Red Right Hand about, I don't think I'd dare label him with anything. ;-]

Oh I see what you did there. I see what you did.

Reference.

And I can agree with you that Nick Cave is not necessarily the manliest of men, however his mustache did do a lot to alter his appearance toward and into this spectrum. Allow me to demonstrate:

Creepy Uncle.

Keeping it along the lines of music, we have our next contender, I bring your attention to subject B, Antony Carmichael:

Whilst a relatively ordinary appearing mustache in some regards, given Antony Carmichael's career as a professional rap singer he proved that even the most street of home boys can wear a mustache like a gentleman, inspiring such artists as Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent to follow him his footsteps decades after his short lived career.

First appearing on the hit BBC television show "Music 2000" in 1977, Antony Carmichael can be attributed to being one of the first recording artists to bring rap music to the attention of the general public of the United Kingdom. Despite failing to achieve commercial success and remaining an underground performer until eventually fading away into obscurity during the mid 1980's his legacy lives on as an example of facial hair which future generations of rappers aspire to achieve. For this and so much more, his is facial hair which truly deserves our highest appreciation.

Is anyone else horrifically reminded of porn stars, for some unknown reason?

I'm not familiar enough with male porn stars to make that judgement

That may be your opinion, however might I bring to your attention the counter argument in that it is in fact you who suck.

count it

Besides clearly it is common knowledge that every man who was ever awesome ever has or has had a beard, allow me to demonstrate:

Clearly facial hair is not a natural biomaterial triggered during puberty, but is in fact the manifestation of a man's radulence and masculinity formed through willpower alone.

Please permaban Janus and Sunblink for disrespecting facial hair.

llearch n'n'daCorna

... Should I permaban me, as well? I think I can manage that. All it takes is a short ban on 0.0.0.0/0...

Have I mentioned that facial hair sucks yet, and absolutely no one looks good with it?

Unless it's a villainous goatee or some such. Or Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark.

All other facial hair is nyet.

I'm not sure how much you're helping the cause there; Stalin also had quite a bit of blood on his hands.
Someday, when we look back on this, we'll both laugh nervously and change the subject. More is good. All is better.

You know who else had facial hair?

Groucho Marx...

Wait! That was a Grease paint mustache.

What about Snidely Whiplash and Boris Badenov?

Though Freddie Mercury had a mustache as well around the end of his career too, didn't he?

What about the Band ZZ top?

Then you have Captain Jack Sparrow.

Whilst Brian Blessed is an amazing character - and an excellent actor - that doesn't mean I'd like to cuddle him.

And even if he shaved, he'd still be an excellent actor, so... I do believe your point is invalid. Care to try again?
