I demand Pyro tells us how he got that feather.

I would guess that he could have gotten that feather as a gift from someone who held a sentimental attachment.

I think the answer is a bit mundane; probably has something to do with identifying himself as a non-cubi-hating dragon.

That would make more sense if it were one of Fa'lina's feathers.  She did adopt him, after all.  If Destania had given Pyroduck a feather while she was still at the academy, she would not likely seek the extermination of all dragons now.

One has to wonder if he's keeping it for other, less benign, reasons.  In many beliefs (or superstitions), having a piece of someone, be it hair, a bit of blood, etc, can give you power over that person with the right magics.
