I think that he means he will hold it while she gets scanned and will give it back right after. Or he's going to steal it. One or the other.

Also, nice job with the trembling lip in panel 3 and all, I know from having it done to me it helps in ways unimagined.

This isn't aimed at you personally, but... why on earth would he want to steal it?  He can't spend it, can't conceal it and if he loses it in any way, shape or form, she'll execute him the moment the game begins.
Also, he (claims to) depend on her for protection so even if ('accidentally') killing your own lieutenant is right out, she can ignore him and let him fend for himself.

Maybe there's something else going on here, but I'm not sure there's any sound reason to assume an ulterior motive...

You do have a point. He could also be gaining her trust for use at a later date.  He could also be testing out the eyes for effectiveness. 
Or he could just be trying to be helpful.


I don't think I have a very high opinion of people. Or furry criminals.
