allo, i don't normally make many topics but this is one  i wanted to share.

two weeks ago Sunday my wife and i entered our daughter Eowyn in a child search competition held at a not-so-local mall (the nearest mall to us is about an hours drive, so we had our pick of which audition to go to) pretty much just for kicks. but this is a serious affair, and this is how they keep getting kids to appear in all those ads you see in magazines, newspapers, and even TV commercials. even more impressive is that this particular group on the child search had discovered children for several movies, including the polar express.

little did we know that Eowyn would be one of the more distinguished winners, earning herself a small trophy, large trophy, and a tiara of reasonable quality. not the best picture of my wife, shes scrunching up her face and neck, and eowyn of course has the hereditary eye thing....even cameras without flash do it with her and me, unless were squinting or in a dark room any amount of light makes our eyes red.

yes, winner, one of about six different kids who won a few prizes including a free 350 dollar professional photo shoot in Chicago and the 200 dollar admission fee for the state competition paid free, held at the fabulous Ho-Chunk casino. She won the best of age category and the big trophy was for best snapshot, which i will show here too.

WARNING- we have received complaints of people injuring themselves on the dangerous levels of cute, so this picture will be given as a link and not as an image. diabetics and people with weak bladders are cautioned to avoid looking. viewing this link may cause the desire to become pregnant or kidnap small children.

yeah, a 350 dollar photo shoot we hope to do sometime in the next month (its a three hour drive, gotta plan ahead) and free admission to the statewide competition...which we will not be attending.

while the admission fee is paid in full, theres other fees required in addition to the cost of staying in a hotel for two days. this totals roughly 600 dollars out of pocket expenses (not including food and the obvious problems of being in a casino for two days) for the three of us to attend this competition. supposedly we would have been able to contact local businesses and individuals to sponsor Eowyn, for the price of 15-150 dollars getting a large advertisement (the 150 does a FULL PAGE full color advertisement, dosent get any better then that) which will be distributed across the state and announced publiclly to attendees to the contest and a whole casino full of...well, people who go to casinos. despite contacting local area businesses and restaurants to date we have only two sponsors, who i shall pimp here because they will not have their ads spread across the state or their slogan announced to a crowded casino.

sorry Casey, no advertisement.

QuoteIf people bring so much courage to this world the world has to kill them to break them, so of course it kills them. The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry.

The warning in the link is quite necessary. Every parent thinks (or generally should think) their kid is the most adorable thing on the planet. It's great to know that you have people who officially agree with you.

She is indeed cute.

I hope that's a very patient and easy-going cat.

the cats name is Sif, and those two are more then best buddies, they're practically sisters. eowyn constantly gives sif huggs, insists on feeding her treats every day, regularly offers her sippie cup, and has begged for me to give her ramen noodles just so she could give them to the cat. and its a very easygoing cat, sif is in a state of being perpetually stoned.

sadly, thats not 'red eye'. our pupils show up red because they reflect light far better then normal eyes, allowing us to see in very dark places. removing this redness would be similar to removing the red on superman's cape- it looks red because it reflects red light, thus you must essentially color over any pictures that have it.

heres a picture of MY eye so you can see how it works. the only part on this which is not really normal is the white spot in the middle, a little bit of glare off of the kitchen light. there was NO flash on this, its just me standing in an insufficiently lit room.

creepy isn't it? but on her it looks completely adorable in a slightly evil way.

The cute! It burns! :-)

Incidentally, I remember watching my 3yo brother carrying a cat down the hallway. He had his arms under the forelegs, wrapped around the chest of the cat. The hind feet of the cat were dragging on the ground. The look on the face of the cat was "I'm so going to kill someone. Just as soon as I get out of here."

Despite that, the cat didn't actually damage the child at all....

Personally, I think cats understand that small children do silly things, and grant them leeway that adults don't get. You go trying to do that to a cat, you'll get scratched or bitten or both. But the kid? Aww, isn't it cute? :-)

Congrats and good luck with her future career! So cute, plus awesome name choice. When she grows up, she's gonna rule the world or something. Use her unbeatable cat army that she controls by hug-telekinesis. I dunno. Tell the great ruler that I offer my services, such as they are.

when she takes over the world I've already put in my application for the positions of "loyal steed" and court magician, what position did you apply for?

yes, Casey Young has assigned one of his most loyal minions (me if you hadn't figured out, ive been with him the whole two years of altermetalessness and another two years before then even) to go forth and spread the word of his return. if any of you would like to help pimp out www.altermeta.net feel free and be sure to stop by his forum to say hi, love the comic, and Brunhidden sent ya.

side note- Eowyn has been the official mascot of Altermeta, its chatroom, and its forum for several months now.

How about 'Sub-ruler of Europe?' I could work with that. Or 'Sub-Queen of Europe' or 'Sub-Malevolent Dictator.' Whichever you prefer. (Not that I'll be sub-malevolent, you understand, I will be fully malevolent. Just a Sub-Dictator.)

Miaka

Aw! She is adorable. ^^

And congrats to her(and I suppose you) for winning that though! especcially when you oly entered her for the hell of it...
