Well I normaly don't bring politics over to the dmfa forums but I thought you'd get a kick out of this.

It seems a Christian group is attacking the Wii and other new consoles as portals to porn

LOL

While the group seems to have god intentions and wants parents to be involved with there kids they way it's worded seems to imply that the only reason nintendo and sony released there consoles was to get porn to kids.

to sum it all up with humor

Kenji

Yup. They obviously want their consumers off spanking it instead of buying and playing games. Yup.

Pretty much everything can access the internet now-a-days, never seemed like that much a of a problem up until now.

Aridas

Stop playing with your wii dear, you're not old enough yet.

But COME ON, anyone with a brain knows what the Wii is "capable" of. OF COURSE you can go on the internet with it. Considering you can also READ THE NEWS AND SEE THE WEATHER (and recently vote on simple questions with people around the world and in your home country), I find it hard to believe parents WOULDN'T be aware of the fact it connects to the internet. Also, the Wii's browser is a download, meaning it has to be actually put on the console at some point.

Whether or not your kid is using the computer to go on the internet or the wii, I doubt any actual kids are going searching for porn in either environment... The ones old enough to know what porn is should realize the wii is too hard to use for something like that. Inefficient, at least. Besides, we all know what they say about the Wii. This is going to end up in the family room where they can't just hide it.

Yeah, it just takes a little common sense for parents to connect Wii-play and internet access and take actions they deem appropriate. It's the same common sense that parents would need if they gave their kids desktop computers. If it has an internet connection, it's gonna connect to the internet and everything said internet contains, there's no real reason for a big scare here.

And, as Aridas said, the Wii is meant for a family room, a room in the house with a lot of space like a living room or den instead of a teen's messy cramped bedroom, so it's a much less likely tool for porn-surfing than, say, a personal computer.

*Doesn't resist the urge at all. CLICK MEEEE!! :ipod

The article is just a piece of extremist christian FUD, designed to put the fear of porn into the heads of church-goers next to the fear of God and The Devil. Everyone with some common sense already knows a) that there is lots and lots of porn on the internet, and b) that anything that can connect to the internet can display said porn.

Unfortunate, the article is about as "Christian" as satanism is.

Now, if Dr. William Harrell of Abilene Baptist church, the Chairman of the Southern Baptist Convention says something, or of Dr. James Dobson, head of Focus on the Family says something, then I might listen. They haven't.

I ain't heard anything from PluggedInOnline either ( http://www.pluggedinonline.com/ ).

Now, I don't know who Mike Foster is, or claims to be, but if you associate Christians or Christianity with his organization, you've made a mistake.

You know, actually reading the Christian group's press release is rather enlightening.  It doesn't look like any sort of attack, it seems more like a "Don't forget that parental controls exist.  If it is important to you use them" statement.

This just stinks of some half ass blog trying to generate traffic over something rather harmless by latching onto the "Christians must be evil" sentiment.

...I retract my previous bandwagon-jumping post (and proceed with this bandwagon-jumping post). The link you provided even praises the Wii as "a blast to play." It doesn't attack the Wii, it mainly just gives parents step-by-step directions on how to porn-proof their consoles using parental control settings that Nintendo included in the Wii (Unfortunately, this is done by completely blocking access to the browser, but, let's face it, that's the most feasible option most parents would have). Thanks for the enlightening link, Shadesfox, it looks like that Kotaku article was just a little bit inflammatory.
