Seems that Keaton isn't the only one eager to behead people. Man, I was considering having Ben and Tomara move to Fairwater, but it seems to be just as full of assholes as Cornelia...

Also, perhaps it's time for Jak to work his false-execution magic?

It is worth bearing in mind that there is some selection bias, i.e. you're only seeing things go wrong, because that makes a more interesting story than all the other cases where everything goes perfectly smoothly.

Fairwater isn't some kind of paradise, but something like a western democracy doesn't work terribly well for Furrae, since you could easily sway the voters on some kind of "Let's exterminate all the 'cubi!" campaign, 'Cubi being rare and often despised.

On the other hand, benevolent dictatorships work better because of the extreme lack of succession disputes.

Well, in Cornelia they aren't "officially" persecuted, but they are usually ostracized for being "untrustworthy" or even "whorish." (Basically, the whole country is racist against them.) I figured things would be different in Fairwater, what with their monarchs being 'Cubi and all.

Ah.  In that regard, it's pretty good, especially in the capital.  It's further out that the anti-creature sentiments start to take root.  Or when you have vested interests, like here - but that sort of things tends to happen everywhere.

That's true.  It would seem that semi-constitutional monarchies like Fairwater kingdom or when Lord Page was in charge of his kingdom also work as long.

Systems of government like what we have here in the States wouldn't work....well they would work but not in the way that they should work.  Because the moment they elect an anti-cubi leader into office, then the problems start. Of course, there would be protests and rioting especially among Beings who are sympathetic to cubis.

I'm not sure how a socialist or communist government would work in Furrae though.  It would seem that monarchies and oligarchies are about the only forms of government that seem to work in the setting.

Also when did King Fairwater become bi!?  I thought he was straight!  Not that I'm complaining mind you, just that threw me for a loop.  Of course, then I remembered that cubi tend to be curious about sexual preferences.

Bisexuality seems to be common with 'cubi, if I recall. I'm not sure if 'curious' is the right word here. I'd think maybe they're more eager to explore sexuality if they want to... after all, you've got thousands of years to experiment.

But... uh...  I also don't remember there being any evidence for Fairwater  being straight? Any source page for that, or...?

"This is a monarchy, you simpleton," the Queen said.  "There is a detailed plan for the succession.  The fact that my husband prefers humping other men is utterly irrelevant.
All that matters is that we have an heir. "

Is this part of how Fairwater became king or something or is this part of how to catch a demon or another one of your comics?

It's taken from a new story I've been writing, the working title is 'Bounty'.  Progress has been slower than I'd like but that's probably down to work.  Originally it was supposed to be long like Epsilon or the main story, but a 10-chapter medium length piece seems more likely.

Ah I see.  I look forward to seeing that one.

And you know I actually expected Illiath to push a button revealing a hidden War Machine-like armored high-tech battlesuit designed for cubi in which she would then put on and said, "Its time to get heavy metal!"

And then I would squeal like a fanboy at his first comiccon.

Also shouldn't it be like Fa'Lina has instead of had?

Broad hints were dropped that Fa'Lina wouldn't be running SAIA forever, up to and including Amber saying something like "...and soon Fa'Lina will DIE!" on the forum.

Yes.  Annoyingly, it's his part which is being difficult.
The climax of his arc is done, but I mostly seem to end up tweaking and polishing that instead of writing the build up. Hopefully I'll be able to fill in the gaps over Christmas, like how I banged out most of Heads You Lose, or the Dorcan-Syd scenes in Epsilon which were written on the 5-hour train journey...

Ah, with Ben, that's easy. Just throw in a few explosions and bad jokes!

Oh, he gets a lot more than that.  Ben gets to go on a quest.  Most of what happens when he gets there is written, but the journey itself still needs fleshing out.

Seems Fairwater didn't think things through.

Also it's nice to see how the creation of androids has affected the law.  Shows a good bit of realism to the setting.

Although I must ask: would Fairwater and Jakob really had done it on that table?

I'm hoping to see more stories of him in them as I like him and I would like to understand more about his relationship with Jakob.

If you haven't already, I'd check out 'Dark Angel', that's where he was introduced.

They did.

That simplifies the execution issue, then; they'll all be killed by a "dragon."
