On another note, seeing a steam engine in a basement somewhat reminds me of this computer game called Connections.

This chapter was actually inspired by Darkmod.  A lot of it was inspired by (and written while playing) Hidden Hands: Initiation (by Jack Farmer).  Many of the fan missions have a steam generator in the cellar, although I think this particular scene was inspired by my misdeeds in the Chase Bank (part two of 'Quinn Co' by Airship Ballet).
