Title: Like the old Sierra games? Check THIS out!
Post by: James StarRunner on October 19, 2012, 08:42:19 PM

Corey and Lori Cole who made the Quest for Glory series are getting back into the ring! Even though Activision now owns the license for Quest for Glory, they are following the spirit of the series. If you haven't played Quest for Glory, but are familiar with King's Quest, just imagine that mixed with a stat system similar to what Elder Scrolls was later popular for.

This is the first day the kickstarter is open and it already raised over $50,000 and one of the upper tiers is sold out (sorry). The Coles have to be my favourite developers and their games have shaped my youth. It's really worth looking into!

Well, the worlds in QfG weren't nearly as big, but these games started in the long-forgotten years of DOS. ("C:/>" outta bring some memories back...)
Anyway, WILL be adding this to my list. In the meantime, there's a ton of the old Sierra games on GOG.com, in particular is this one: http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/quest_for_glory (http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/quest_for_glory)
What's more impressive is that they're grabbing some talent from AGDinteractive. (Well, not really... They gave the group their blessing for their GfQ2 remake, found here: http://www.agdinteractive.com/games/qfg2/ (http://www.agdinteractive.com/games/qfg2/))
All in all, this holds a lot of promise.

Ah, yes, that's been talked about a lot on their sites at http://www.theschoolforheroes.com/ and the new one where hero-u is being discussed at http://www.hero-u.net/ (I probably should have put those up before too). The latter especially is where much of the development and beta testing will be discussed. People will definately see me at both as I moderate there and keep the same name. But more importantly, you'll get to see Lori and Corey.

Sorry about necroing, but this is pretty relevant.

The kickstarter has 38 hours left, and is over $50,000 away from missing its goal.

...Might've helped if Star Citizen wasn't sucking up ALL OF THE MONEY, but yeah...

Seriously, Guest for Glory was, and still is, a pretty awesome series. (A little short by today's standards, but this is Sierra we're talking about. Half the gameplay is bumbling around until you stumble on where/what you need to do. And that can be pretty damn obscure at times.) If you want to chip in to the project, it's now or never.

Backed. Although at 23 hours left, they're still 40k short.

Just in the nick of time.
