Heh, well that shark has been jumped.   ;)

See?  Every web comic will inevitably have at least one gay character.

THERE IS NO EXCEPTION!!   >:O

I just remembered, that one fae is still invisible and listening! Now look at what she's just eavesdropped on!
What will come of this? I'm now very, very afraid of whatever Amber may have cooking in her storytelling brain... :boggle

Wow.

Boy did his dating life get more complicated. For this to work Mab'd have to create a whole new character...or Jy-Jy would have to become a monk or something.

Poor lil' roo-rat. Well on the upshot he's being honest with himself.

or what Abel said.  Remember, Abel started this whole "Jyrras likes Dan" area of the strip.  Jy-Jy could have lived happily in denial for years, had Abel been able to ignore his thoughts.

Not with that mind-shield on him, could he.

Also, I have the following to say in response to the comic:

Also the following response to Amber-age:

Quote from: Wiku-wild!Stuff is planned, I got evil in the wings. It's going to be a very fun week.

Mwa ha ha ha...

D: :O Oh my FRIGGING GOD, this is a plot twist if EVER there's been one!! I honestly can't believe I didn't see it coming...the part where Jyrras wished he was someone else...the part where Jyrras defeated himself in his own thoughts ("Casey At the Bat" reference, 'member?)... Unexpected, completely. I doubt the Miss Mab is going to let this be the end-all, though, oooooh goodness no. Why stop here? Jyrras is a frustrated, yet so intelligent being....Amber is gonna go wild on us again, isn't she? :erk :erk I haven't been this shocked and intrigued by DMFA in quite awhile...!

:B

Oh no, Amber has made a character gay, so she must automatically be enforcing comic stereotypes on herself.  Oh no.  Nevermind the character's interesting, was thought to be straight/bi for most of the comic, and the rest of the cast is straight (or unknown in one or two cases).

No, by this single comic, I lose faith in the amazing powers of Amber and renounce her because she made a character gay.

...
end sarcasm.

Seriously, anyone find this comic funny?
You have this serious moment, Lorenda hits an awkward moment...
and then Amber and Fluffy stumble upon a vein of awkward oil, thereby shattering the sad pace this strip had.

It's like... surprise funny.

And Abel x Jyrras sounds like it's made of awesome.

(And to the people who point out the comic Amber did earlier about "what makes a comic great"... there are two stereotypes to anything; the actual stereotype, and its opposite.  Conforming to either still makes you stereotypical :B so, yeah, give her a break here)

Now this actually begs an interesting question: let's assume for a second Jyrras is bi, and his declaring himself gay is essentailly him giving up on women for the time being becasue his best chance for landing one just landed another crushing blow in a SERIES of crushing blows to his Ego. is he now essentially going to be shuffled off towards Abel, or will Lorenda experiance a change of heart herself?and if she didn't...well, short of intruducing an completely new character...what female WOULD Jyrras wind up forming a romatnic encounter/relationship with? Wildy?  (not TOTALLY out of the realm of possibility as a.) they're about the same size. b.) are both beings instead of creatures. c.)she could give Jyrras some much needed spine, and d.) they DO have an unresolved story arc.  Of course there is the matter that she kinda predicted all this with her freaking book.

or, on the other hand, maybe, cliched as it feels, Jyrras hit the nail on the head and all his romantic inclinations towards females really WERE him in a state of denial. (cuz gawd forbid there's a middle ground in sexuality...feh)  What are the chances that Abel would be remotely interested either?and if he isn't...will Jyrras give up on that too....or will the quasi-flirting seen so far evolve into a serious attempt out of what's essentailly romantic desperation?

Lots of possibilities.  Personally, I hope that Jyrras doesn't wind up taking the "Willow" approach to things and forget he ever had any intrest in the opposite gender whatsoever......hrmmph. denial can work both ways too, after all...especially if you'res tarting in the middle of the road.

If everyone who is straight stands up to be counted, this is going to be a very long thread. There's more than 600 users on the forum, after all. Even if only one in four is straight, that's still over a hundred fifty responses... or about 5 pages of -just- "me too". Can we take it as read that there are more than 4, and leave it at that?

Much appreciated...

Hmmmm. Now I don't have the best gaydar in the world (my aunt has the best I've ever seen), but I guess it makes sense. Lack of interest in women... seemed really repressed up till this point... and was constantly attacked by girls. Not only that, but the cutest ones are usually gay, according to Ms. Murphy's Law.

As for the awkward... coulda been worse. She could've had a crush on him upon discovering he was gay.

The eavesdropping Fae will make sure Jyrras is raped by an Amazon, thus destroying his psyche entirely and causing him to go on a rampage in his gryphon mech, which will then lead to a Creature Council crackdown on all technology (and homosexuality) stating that it is evil and leads to beings getting all uppity and making independent films about gay cowboys eating pudding.    :3

Yes, but this is the furry fandom we're talking about here... stereotypes aside, we're still talking about a fairly liberal cross-section whose only qualifying factor is that they're willing to admit they like brightly colored cartoon animals. You do the math.

On the contrary...  I have a friend who's bi.  Bisexuality is no myth.

Honestly, I'm inclined to agree that Jyrras is bi, but after having his ego blown to smithereens so many times so frequently, he's just giving up on women... for the moment.

I still think the idea of Abel x Jyrras is hot, though :B

All aboard the co-dependency ship!  Now boarding, Jyrras x Wildy!

Jyrras depending on Wildy to dominate and control him and let him know that everything's OK, and Wildy depending on Jyrras to give her attention.

Well, that's going a little far, but I personally think romantic feelings are pretty straightforward, and I personally have never mistaken friendship for them. That is pretty farfetched to me, but I guess it does happen, but it still seems a little... eh, unbelievable, that Jyrras is completely gay. I mean, come on, what if he's not either now? After all, the feelings he had for Dan might just be friendship too if he's that bad at telling the difference. As someone has said, his (romantic) feelings seem to be because of people who are especially nice to him. The only thing he has commented on being attracted to are Dan's and Abel's cute butt, and even then, I can think a lot of girls have cute features and not feel sexual about it.

I'll still like DMFA if he does end up completely gay. It would just seem.. eh, pansexual or bi would be much more fitting based on what we've seen of Jyrras so far. Lorenda's "evidence" of him being gay are just a bunch of stereotypes anyway -- my boyfriend is completely straight and yet so very, very feminine and clean and liking of the color pink.

edit: besides, why would people in DMFA seem to want to deny their sexuality? So far every single character who has shown a view on the matter is very liberal and there doesn't seem to be a moral code against such a thing in that society, which is why most people deny it here.

Where are all these signs of heterosexuality that Jyrras is now apparently contradicting? As far as I recall, Jyrras has appeared fairly asexual throughout the run of the strip, with this issue only arising as a result of Abel's interferance - and since then, he's only shown immediate physical attraction to Abel himself, no less.

I still think a bi Jyrras would be more interesting: but having him flip-flop on the issue would seem a bit too awkward.

the only thing that comes to mind as possible hetro proof is the time when he was shown staring doe eyed at a cheese raider 2 poster.  Course an argument could be made that it was the gun she liked, or maybe he's a fan of the movies.  Besides thats way back in the early comics that I belive Amber has said might not exactly be cannon in the current storyline

I just really hope she's not going for the fan service of somehow winding up with Jy and Abel as a couple. Just no...

From his remarks when Jyrras and Abel first met, Abel would appear to think that Jyrras is bisexual (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_571.php).  And this is from the standpoint of a mind reader.  Abel's overall assessment of the situation also seems appropriate (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_573.php).

I wonder...

How about this theory:
We all know Jy had a hand in creating the Mows.
Mows seem to crawl around on the floor, and are covered in fur. They also seem to eat(or at least try to) lots of things.
Hm, they seem like perfect mops, though you might have to gather them up every month or so, take em out side, and shake the dust out of them.  :3
Now, this being the case, Jy is forced to make sure important stuff is kept off the floor, or else it could be eaten, which would cirtainly force him to keep his mansion clean, even if he didn't want to.
Either that, or amber is just lazy and doesn't want to have to draw messy areas. >:3

Going to be re-doing all my lines.

Going to be doing them camp.

Won't matter to me too very much, I've never listened to the Radio thing... oh and...

Video killed the Radio star... :P

I saw a car with one of those equality sign bumper stickers yesterday.  But it was a rainbow colored one.  I thought the whole point was that they were supposed to be subtle and ambiguous in meaning?

Not sure about the happily part but some gay guys do marry women, granted its for convinience more often than not. Some marry to have a biological child of their own, [IVF isnt exactly affordable for many here] others in order to get some economic and legal benefits such as personal deductions from tax and for representation in various proceedings.

Ive also heard of a gay guys marrying a lesbians.

I've just realised than Jyrass's de-closeting has occurred one day prior to National Coming Out day, i.e. as close as possible given the MWF schedule. Coincidence?

Where are all these signs of heterosexuality that Jyrras is now apparently contradicting? As far as I recall, Jyrras has appeared fairly asexual throughout the run of the strip, with this issue only arising as a result of Abel's interferance - and since then, he's only shown immediate physical attraction to Abel himself, no less.

the only thing that comes to mind as possible hetro proof is the time when he was shown staring doe eyed at a cheese raider 2 poster.  Course an argument could be made that it was the gun she liked, or maybe he's a fan of the movies.  Besides thats way back in the early comics that I belive Amber has said might not exactly be cannon in the current storyline

I was hoping someone else would do the dirty work for me and check the archives :P. OR you have a better memory than me.

Poor Jyras, he's in a whole new world, has to worry about a Fae revenge, has to deal with a new baby, and now has to deal with something he didn't want to be apparently.

Five bucks says Amber switches back to Dan and Abel, or to what Mab is doing. Or, something completely different, like Merlitz fighting something with tentacles and being wrapped up, and Aliyka saying something like "STOP IT, I'M SURE HE'D GIVE PEACE A CHANCE!!!" whilst Merlitz is being strangled. But, that part is just speculation. >:3

This is apparently the first time Jy Jyrras wore a sweater vest (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_074.php).
I went through the archives for some of the episodes that people mentioned in this thread and others that I found appropriate.

I believe that this is the picture of Jy watching a movie poster (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_079.php) that you were talking about.

Here is Jyrras in an earlier embarassing moment (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_093.php).

Here is where first heard about Lorenda's mother (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_096.php) and here is here is where he met her (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_336.php).

Here is Dan trying to give Jyrras a lesson in self-confidence (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_354.php).  I think Jyrras will need more lessons.

But at least Jyrras has friends who are willing to help him with his problems (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_722.php).
