Now, it would be REALLY awesome if they made Jyrras immortal! "You're not going to die before I got my revenge!"

Considering how log Fae can live for they may just have made him immortal, since dying from old age is still a way to die.  ;)

Well, I think the immortality option is kinda spoiled by the "they don't do anything", unless Fae consider "immortality" to be less important than "shiny". ...which they might. ;)

That would be pretty cool.

They clash with most formal wear eh? Ch'yeah right! You obviously don't know how to dress! [/end haughty]

I love that expression in the second panel though. The whole thing is so... cute.
Also, it would seem that "humans" really do have four fingers.
Or rather, the furres really only have three.

...Well... I don't think Jyrras has to worry about any creatures hunting him now.

Honestly, it seems more like... like...

http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_565.php (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_565.php)

Like that.

Except more permanent, and the creature would more likely be killed by a very mad fae if they killed/ate/sacrificed someone with those bangles.

actually, reminds me of the mark God put on Cain to warn anyone against killing him.  Similar reasoning, too.

There's speculation, however, that it didn't serve as enough of a deterrent.

Quote
Lamech said to his wives:

"Adah and Zillah, hear my voice;
you wives of Lamech, listen to what I say;
I have killed a man for wounding me,
a young man for striking me.
If Cain's revenge is sevenfold,
then Lamech's is seventy-sevenfold."

I've mentioned it before, but I knew a guy who did something like this in DnD.  He offered a party member who was becoming a real jerk up as a sacrifice to his god.  He critically failed, so the god didn't accept the sacrifice.  He merely required a continuous offering of blood from the guy.  He could never die, so they stuck him on a pole and carried him around like a shield.

Anyways, you'd think after however many millennia, Albanion would have a list of punishments that he's used before, and can use again in appropriate situations.  And a heuristic for making ironic punishments.

A reused punishment? How gauche! There is no style in that! Each punishment must be unique and individually talored for the proper revenge. And considering how many people Albanion must have on his list, Jy should be safe for the next ten thousand years. Revenge is a dish served very very very cold.

Revenge is cryogenticly preserved? Alcor (http://www.alcor.org/) has revenge stored somewhere?

Or do you mean colder? Is revenge a Bose-Einstein or Fermi-Dirac condensate?

...Should I drive the point home with a revengine? (I insincearly appologise for that one...)

Now that's an interesting idea, but I think Albanion is a little too shallow for it to work.  Now, Nutmeg might be behind this, though, exagurating how Jy wouldn't hug her and all, knowing that it would piss Al off, and he'd go and do that.  Interesting idea.

Considering what we ACTUALLY know about the guy, both as an individual and as a member of a capricious and long-lived race, I think it's entierly plausible that the entire 'Mabs parents dying' think could be engineered for the expres purpose of marking Jyrras for 'vengeance'.

Seems a bit slipshod to me.  Lorenda could have been closest when she made the hug attempt in which case she would have been targetted for vengeance instead.  In fact, if Mab hadn't made Nutmeg pointy, Jyrras might not have been so freaked out in the first place.

If I were Jyrras, I'd make a patch for those bangles that's impossible to remove and give it to Nutmeg as a 'gift.'

Since it would clash with her outfit so badly and Jyrras would be the only one to know how to remove it, he'd have a solid bargaining chip.

Uh, wasn't it Nutmeg pretending to be Albanion?  Then, after Mab skewered her a few times, she tried to hug Jyrras, realised she was full of spear, removed it and then tried again, by which time Jyrras was scared out of his wits?  (Thus causing Albanion to get mad)

The worse thing that can happen to a Fae is boredom.

Over at Tales of the Questor a Wild Hunt is starting because the Fey got the yawnies.

That will be the basis of Albanion's revenge.

I will now force you to ...

Wow. It's been so long since I've done Mangleloid Quadratics.  I forgotten how much fun it is.

Mmmmm, that didn't work.

That might be the case, if, you might recall, that wasn't actually Albanion in disguise that they were dealing with at the time.

Just for the heck of it, let's try a way out theory.  What Jyrras actually met (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_782.php) was Albanion pretending to be Nutmeg pretending to be Albanion and the black fae-human (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_820.php) is also Albanion in disguise.  Since Albanion wants the other creatures to let Jyrras alone for a while (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_366.php), and the bangles are a means of keeping Jyrras alive while other plans are developed.  Fae like plays, and Albanion is having a ball putting on a one-man show.

Meanwhile, consider the possibility that the accident at the personal ads department that resulted in Jyrras's parents meeting (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_328.php) was actually arranged by Akaen (http://www.missmab.com/Demo/angel.php) who was experimenting in producing better inventors for the technologies that he has been investing in.  (After all, Angels apparently like devious methods.)  Akaen has been involved with breeding experiments for several hundred years and is actually a distant ancestor of Jyrras.  (Hence, both having large ears.)  Akaen is also a major investor for Jyrras's research, perhaps under an assumed identity, and has managed to have unrestricted access to the laboratory.

Then let us break through the fourth wall and into the twilight zone, and assume that Amber's medical problems are due to Akaen, who is trying to slow down the stories so that his plans will not be revealed prematurely.

At this point, the ideas going through my head are getting, and I think I better go take some medicine.

So your saying Al and Ak for some reason struck a deal behind the councils back to "protect" Jy from dying prematurely (I.E. pissed off Kria/Lorenda/assassin/death by mob of fangirls/old age/etc.) since it plays to both their strengths?

Akaen wants Jy to continue researching, and Albanion is secretly the greatest playwrite in all of Furrae's history and wants to put on a show of epic proportions?

Yeah crazy theory, but a good one at that.

You appear to be correct, sir.

At this point, I would suggest that it was Albanion pretending to be Nutmeg Pretending to be Albanion, wheels within wheels, but Naldaru has beaten me to the punch while I was at work.

See that's the problem with me posting in the morning before I can properly wake up. (or durring the day when I am distracted by work, or in the evening, when I am tired... I sense a trend)

i think you're making this more complex than it needs to be.  Why should Albanion pretend to be Nutmeg impersonating him?  For one, what's the point?  Nutmeg impersonating Albanion makes sense.  Albanion pretending to be impersonated by his own wife?  Not in the least.  For two, that actually contradicts what has happened earlier, and I'm fairly certain Amber doesn't change the rules within the same chapter.  Nutmeg had trouble maintaining the Albanion disguise, and Mab caught that.  Albanion planting the faults in his own disguise might make sense if he was trying to frame his wife, but then, it'd have to be a normal thing, or Mab wouldn't have picked up on it, and I have seen no flaws in either the Nutmeg we've seen thus far, nor the human-shaped Fae we see now.

In all, it's kinda like when people went "OMGWTFBBQ, THERE'S A WARP-ACI NAMED NUTMEG!!!  THEY'RE TOTALLY THE SAME CHARACTERZORZ!!!ONEONEONE!"  You're looking for something that's not there.  It's a waste of time.  Kindly stop it.

But it's so much fun.  I'm not saying that that's the way it is, but merely providing starting points for conversation.  In the real world, Occam's razor provides a fine shave, but our world is sane (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_817.php).  (Although the implications of probability and uncertainty give it an appearance of insanity.)  I do try to avoid the hottest buttons (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_527.php).

By the way, the reason that Albanion would have pretended to be Nutmeg pretending to be Albanion would have been to provide an excuse for Albanion planting the bands nn Jyrras.  Also since Mab is a friend of Jyrras, she might go along with such a deception in order to keep Jyrras angry.  (By the way, there is a literary precedent for such an event.  Look for a novel entitled "The Great Impersonation".)

By the way, if you think I'm being overcomplicated, you should take a look at the discussion that caused Descartes to come up with his quote "I think, therefore I am".  (That one started with "How do I know that I exist and am not just a figment of somebody's imagination and went on from there".)

Occam's razor works just as well for Amber's World. The problem is, you're missing some basic information for the razor to work on. We all are - Amber hasn't told us yet.

Still, the best we have -still- works for the razor. Just be aware that there are times when the simplest answer -isn't- the best, because it fails to take into account some of the other info. Such is life, and this is exactly the same in RL. *shrug*

what Llearch said.  More than nearly any webcomic author I've seen, Amber avoids overcomplicating things, and we can usually take things at face value.  The deepest I can recall her going is a single level of misdirection, such as where Cid Rewanz turned out to be dead, and been played by an incubus named Aniz for the last twenty-five years.  Multiple times, I've seen people here scream OMGEEZ, CONSPIRACY!  and almost every time, I've seen them wrong.

I don't think Amber particularly likes surprises.
