Title: 11-3-2006 Over the top
Post by: Manawolf on November 03, 2006, 01:01:01 AM
You don't need it to be vorpal to take them off by the neck.  Plus you still have to rely on that critical.

In other news, I still don't know how to take a hostage in MGS3 without slitting their throat.  I suck (Yet I've beaten the game with just about every camo, including all boss camos).

True.  That and now we are on the Mab and Co. arc... part... thing.  Now all we need to know is why 'Cubi hate dragons so much. *Pokes at lazy Amber reference (http://missmab.com/Comics/Vol_405.php)*

That and there's 14 people on the forum right now!   :giggle

Since Mab is watching her do it while still being more interested in her conversation with Pyroduck, I'd assume it's a drop of two or three feet rather than a sheer cliff.

It's starting to look like there's dragon-specific hardware out there, to cope with the invulnerability of the skin. Or that's how I'd see it...

Possibly, but that would mean that he's revealed his dragonness to Mab.  If she already knew that she would also have known that Aary, Abel and any other SAIA-educated 'cubi would go utterly berserk when they found out what he was.

QuoteJabberwocky
by Lewis Caroll

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
    Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
    All mimsy were the borogoves,
    And the mome raths outgrabe.

    'Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
    The frumious Bandersnatch!'

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought--
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
    And stood awhile in thought.

And as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
    And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
    The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
    He went galumphing back.

'And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
    O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
    He chortled in his joy.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
    Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
    All mimsy were the borogoves,
    And the mome raths outgrabe.

edit: I bolded the relevant parts if anybody can't be bothered...
edit 2: HURRRRR maybe I should credit the poem

I think he hsa the acrutements to protect him from harm and make him invulnerable. Remember he's a dragon and they hoard like hamster's . So he got the cool stuff he is wearing to protect him.

I guess the "insert hand" thing was just Mab trying to break the ice, a silly scene with no real impact. :P

And yay! Looks like we'll stay with the rescue party for a while! *cheers*
I love Mab's "Hmmmmm..." pose in the third panel. You just KNOW the result will be silly xD

Edit:
*stares at the lower left corner of the comic* Did Amber get divorced already?  :dface (;))

*Charline thinks the Jabberwocky got a bad rap!*  Just like dragons... and my mother!  Humans are always blaming us for eating them!  Is it our fault that people are edible?   If they don't want to be devoured, they should be poisonous or have thorns or something.   >:3

*Charles edges away from Charline, for she gets bitey at times like this*   :c  Uhm, I wonder if Pyro's hiding his tue identity from Mab because fae have a certain degree of animosity toward dragons too.

What in the world is Polymer City Chronicles? I was referencing Inuyasha. Which reminds me, Wildy's hair in the first panel looks like Inuyasha's does when he's running. Hmmm... (speculates wildly) :paranoid

An interesting bit to note is that this first portion was originally published as "Stanza of Anglo-Saxon Poetry," which should provide some indication as to why the words look like they *should* be English.

I think Mab must know he's a dragon. Why else would he mention the attack was with a vorpal blade and not just say Abel attacked him. Maybe the two elder races can sense each other and she's known from day one and fae just don't care about the fight. Or if, as has been speculated, this is just a Fa'Lina predjudice spred to SAIA students she doesn't know.

Mab knows Fa'lina, so if it is some weird inter-racial spat that Fa'lina is propagating, she will know about it.

"So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
    And stood awhile in thought."

hmmm... I bet that's what Mab tried to get ol' P-ducky to stick his hand into...  :kruger

on a COMPLETELY different note, this idea came to me in a dream. What if Dan is really a dragon? or, maybe half cubi, half dragon? Say if Destania came to the inn where edward was staying on that faithful night... pregnant? she then magicked him into looking only like an incubus. Maybe the union caused lots of strife to break out, sort of a romeo and juliet thingy...

think about it!
Title: Re: 11-3-2006 Over the top
Post by: Psaakyrn on November 03, 2006, 06:38:19 PM
That could potentially explain why Dan hasn't gotten his clan mark yet.. but there's too many similarities between Dan and Edward to be a coincidence.

And Dan isn't exactly unknown to dragons, considering that he still owes 10 bucks to a certain red one.. but then again, said dragon happens to be absolutely absent-minded, which is not a usual dragon trait based on demonology.

And for why Mab didn't know about incubi hatred against dragon: It might be Cyra Clan/ Ti'Fiona family line specific. (The Ti'Fiona family line might have some relation to incubi/succubi, simply based on how he made up with Destinia, and it's unlikely Destinia would fall for the tricks she herself taught)

I think Mab knew that PyroDuck is a dragon for a long time.

One:  Mab is not dum she just acts dumb
Two:  Mab would have dragon on her list and probably hugged Pyro off camera (which would give a hint on how Pip became her pet)
Three:  Mab is a purple kitty riddle with a tail in the middle (been wanting to type that).

Mab is more aware that many expect and a helpful plot convience which means that Amber gives her information to make Mab more helpful . :mowtongue

Indeed, it was Charles Dodgeson's euphemism.
The poem and the storyline from it was given a strange twist by Terry Gilliam in Jabberwocky (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076221)
..which is probably why I remember it.

Hear hear. Here is a man who knows his stuff. You should never let your human eat too much salts or yeast products before you eat them. Feed them pasta, rice or potatoes. And in the case of cubi, it might be good to cover up their eyes and give them a quick kill, otherwise the emotional aftertaste might become undesirably sharp.

That and maybe because it was Halloween.
That and a tad wacky :P :rolleyes

Well, the Jabberwocky movie looked like one of those cheaply-made poorly-written and acted Sci-fi channel original movies.  What did anyone expect from it?  They made a movie out of a less-than-one-page poem.  There was not enough to carry a movie, so they had to make up a bunch of stupid filler.  It'd be like making a movie out of Tron or Super Mario Brothers or a live-action Street Fighter film (Oh wait!  They did that!  And the movies sucked...)  My point exactly.   :3

Gilliam hasn't had a perfect record of movies by a long shot.  "The Brother's Grimm" was another example.  It was an idea with potential that never really came together in any meaningful fashion.  There were so many places the plot could have easily been improved upon that you really have to wonder what they were thinking when they wrote it.

You try typing one name for 15+ years and see how easy it is to suddenly type a new one for you! :U

After a certain point, it is almost a force of habit to just add the Panyko...so adding the Williams takes a bit more thought...and I'm likely going to forget now and then.

Well perhaps I'm just easily pleased (although that wouldn't explain why I found Life of Brian and Holy Grail to be boring).
Jabberwocky was cheaply made (a couple of interesting artifacts at the end are a result of this) but with a cast of quite famous UK actors (which is possibly why).
On the DVD commentary Gilliam notes that if he'd done it again he would have tried to do it seriously.  That I think would be a mistake.. it's not the plot which I like, because as you rightly say it's pretty flimsy.  No, I like the way Palin triumphs by bumbling from disaster to disaster and above all the weird touches like the potato's journey, the masochistic flagellants and the bit where the prince comes to rescue the princess.
Repo Man does the same kind of thing and I like that too for the same reason.

Now I'm happy to discuss films - preferably those at least tangentially related to the comic - but other people might not.  I guess we'll see how it goes.

In other news, I still don't know how to take a hostage in MGS3 without slitting their throat.  I suck (Yet I've beaten the game with just about every camo, including all boss camos).

my friend (http://zarla.comicgenesis.com/d/20060823.html) had a similar problem. i think you have to be very gentle with your O button.

whatever you do, don't drag the dead bodies to another room next to an unconcious guard and announce 'he did it' to the room you're playing in. it does not, contrary to popular belief, throw the other guards off to the fact that someone is killing scientists.

There has never been a movie based on the Tron video game.

Mainly because the video game was based on the movie.

Actually I thought the Super Mario Brother movie was rather entertaining in a campy sort of way. It helps to not actually think of it based on anything but its own strange creation.  Like if you tried to explain the entire concept of Mario Brothers to a guy in under two minutes.

If the film takes the form of a drug trip experienced by an Italian plumber who gets high on magic mushrooms and goes around killing things, I will probably have to watch it.

Sadly it only involves humans that evolved from lizards instead of apes, a really cute animitronic a pet  raptor instead of a dog (yoshi, which looks almost as good as the Jurassic Park Dinosaurs)  and a gateway between two worlds located in an abandonned NewYork/ Borooklyn subway station. . . and Why did they have to be plumbers? the movie would have been better if it was all about Luigi trying to get the princess and they left Mario out of it.

Throughout the entire history of Mario... and you're complaining about them being plumbers in the -movie-? >.> That's probably the one thing they actually kept right in accordance to the games.

Except... Bowser WAS Koopa. At least, that's what Japan always seems to call him. So they spookily got that right. Besides, the SMB manual called him "king of the koopa" without giving him a name name. >.>

It was just so... dumb.  There were some amusing scenes, yes.  But as a whole, it was just... dumb.   :B

And Tron... I kinda liked it when I was a wee little thing of 6 or 7.  I watched it again a few years ago and realized that my memory of it had been terribly selective.  It's like "The Black Hole", almost farcical but trying to be serious.  The South Park version of the Tron villain was better.  Moses! "I desire... maccaroni pictures."   :mowwink

Yeah the Black hole that was a flick early on from Disney. But I saw Tron and SMB it was cool in the sense of their campyness. I also saw Mortal Kombat the movie and the sequel. I love it for the violence aspects. But that's me here.
