hmm but the crate thing makes me relate more to Super Mario Bros. 2 than DK...
Oh, I know, Abel's BlockDude from the TI-83 game.
THAT WAS STUPID! :banghead
NEVER create an enemy you don't have too!
Now Abel has one more enemy in the world he can't turn his back on.
Hmm. I don't know. I can see a lifetime beer-buying friendship coming out of this.
Hell I would give him the whole damn bar...XD THough Edward and Alexi would kill me
Can't say I disapprove of Abel's tactics, although his choice of enemies is a bit less than practical. And yeah, 10 seconds is a long time to throw a crate.

Maybe there are more crates to follow?
Hnn...I still think something may have happened between the two in the past, somehow... 'Cause, no matter how much I wouldn't like what someone was, I don't think I'd attack them... If I saw a puppy killer, I wouldn't just punch them an- *realizes that was a bad example*
Ooookay, so I probably would attack a puppy killer. O_o But I'm sure there's a better example out there somewhere!
Either Abel and Pyro did once have a run in of sorts, or Cubi+Dragon= violent 'splosion.
Well, Abel's going to be in trouble for beating up someone on a mission (and I'm not talking about Pyro's own mission), whether or not he fights back. Do you think this is part of his plan?
Im sure its all water off a Pyroducks back....Heehee..Poor metaphore...
I begin to think Pyroduck will reply with a Shoryuken (for those who don't know, shoryuken = dragon punch)

I find it interesting that Abel has such a hate on for dragons considering he waved to one back at SAIA... http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_530.php

Though yes, the creature in SAIA was a Mythos and not a Dragon.
How many times are people going to get that wrong? Besides, it's obvious that it's a mythos, just check out the screwed up eyes, weird face and ears, etc.
Ahh.
Hmmm, wonder if Abel realizes that the only bloodless way to kill someone involves fire... and methinks a dragon by the name of Pyroduck might be just a little flame retardant. Just a bit.

Seems Abel's a firm advocate of the saying "The only dragon you can trust is a dead dragon."
Again, still no friggin' idea what Abel has against dragons. Oh well, let the speculations continue.
"Cid was killed by a dragon-kicked crate"
"The dragon race decided one day it'd be fun to pack all the Cubi into boxes and ship them to Abu-Dhabi"
"The Cubi with their powers of disguise are essentially ninjas, and the money-loving dragons are in fact pirates. You do the math."
It's a racial thing, remember? Probably deep running, too.

He had respect to decline from?
Certainly. Or at least, as much as a fictional character can have respect.
I'm still uncertain how my opinions of him have been changed by this comic. It's the smart thing to do, getting a sucker punch in like that. On the other hand, doing so to a friend of a friend is less than intelligent.
If my opinion of anyone has gone down, it's Pyroduck. "Sure it'll build trust :B :B :B duhurr"
As a matter of fact, this is actually how cats show trust in the real world - If a cat keeps staring at you it's not because (s)he likes you.
I don't think Pyroduck is actually going to be hurt by Abel.
The humanoid form is just awkward and poorly balanced... that's all... really... >_>
I somewhat agree with the opinions that Abel shouldn't have suckerpunched Pyro, but from Abel's standpoint, it may have been the only option he had- after all, it's clear that his hatred for Pyro goes beyond racism all the way through visceral 'fight or die' fear, and if your opponent is a dragon... well, you'd need every chance you can get :mowninja
Right now, I wouldnt trust anyone as far as I can punt them... not until the dust clears.
Trying to catch your opponent willing flat footed is a low trick, and trust, if the opponent is someone who's bound to come back in force, you're better off not trying it. Even I know that violence doesn't have to be the only way.

I'm not saying it was justified, but maybe Abel does not share that restraint. Or maybe he thought he was hosed if he didn't act immediately- and with force.
Dan: Pyroduck, where's Abel?
Pyroduck (mouth full): I uh oh (swallows) I saw him a few seconds ago.
The Auld Grump
I donno, I still read this as they didn't know each other personally before this one day.
I read all of this as a MAJOR hatred between the Cubi and Dragon races that has spanned millenia.
Why is Abel so bent on hating Pyroduck? Because he's a Dragon. When you're 300 years old and have probably been tought that Dragons are your enemy, or at least not to be trusted, and have heard stories about evil dragons for all of your 300 year old life, you are going to hate them a lot.
So, I really really believe Abel hates Pyro only because he is a Dragon. Granted, he just met him, but it's very possible that he just has an enormous hatred of the entire species and is taking it out on Pyro, the first dragon he has happened to see in a while.
Of course, he could have had a bad experiance with dragons in the past. Not necessarily Pyro, but a bad experiance earlier in life that makes him hate Dragons even more.

The future is uncertain to everyone (except the author). While one may see doom from their opponent, they must either accept this fact, or wait to actually see if it comes about. The fact Pyro didn't just bother to squash Abel is something the cubi upstart should have mulled over a little more.
Well you don't know if the person standing in front of you is going to offer you a drink, or squash you like a bug, common sense and logic can be a little lacking.
Hmmm..I do hope all will settle
Right from Demo. 101
"Those that even bother to associate with other races are usually doing it for their own benefit and it isn't uncommon to hear of how a dragon double-crossed a powerful demon or cubi in order to further its own means."
Totally had to happen to Abel at some point with another Dragon, or to one of his close friends. ;)
All I know is, it's gonna be fun watching the dust clear. :-)
Abel's earlier line implied that Aary would have done the same (or worse)
"She'd never have let a dragon near Dan..."
I must say I'm surprised to see Abel like this - I can't work out whether it's hate or terror that's motivating him, but I think it might be a combination of the two.
Somehow they're going to have to sort out some kind of truce for the story to continue..

Hard to say - they might just have been a regular demon. Or, it might be that he bought the book quietly because he was afraid of them. Or he didn't want to make trouble in the city which is going to have a Creature patron.
*Charles thinks any dragon that Abel has seen dies offscreen* I'll bet he has a whole underworld group at his command, ready to assassinate any dragons he sees!
*Charline hmphs* Silly Abel. That's why he'll never achieve tri-wing status, he just hasn't grown out of his impulsive phase. He needs to learn to take advantage of dragons who offer friendship. Their race possesses a mouthwatering amount of power... to absorb! >:3

'Cubi have soul-trapping power, and demons seem to be able to acquire a similar ability (DP's ritual for the Dark God).. if demons and 'cubi are somehow descended from dragons, it stands to reason that they would be able to do the same kind of thing...
I meant that it's not a blind fear driving Abel. Unlike, for example my cat who freaks out every time a dog is near whether it's a threat or not (like my grandmother's 2lb poodle when the cat weighed 20lb.) Abel's fear may be deeply ingrained but he can make choices while it is riding him. He can choose to buy a book rather than causing a riot in the mall, he can devise a plan to get a sucker punch in. And he chose a plan that involved fight rather than flight. This seems more like rival college football teams than war.

I was agreeing with you right until the last sentence, 'cause it reads as if Abel's plan is to deliver as much pain to dragons as is possible without having to face the consequences (really, that second point is rather encapsulated by the first - kinda hard to deal out dragon beatings from prison). But that theory doesn't really make sense in this situation, as he's attacking a friend of a friend in proximinty of said friend, which would lead to many a consequence.
But yeah, I agree, I don't think it's blind fear. I think it's just born of drive for self protection, and also to protect Dan (see #685) from a hostile force.

hmmm...you may be right...I may be crazy...
I'm thinking Abel's Unholy Beatdown probably feels like an infant smacking an elephants behind, compared to the payback Pyroduck is about to release on his furry agressor... :kruger Abel will probably suffer from amnesia for a week, or in "lame" terms Pyro is going to hurt him so hard his daddy's going to feel the pain.
Does everyone forget that Pyroduck SAID that the immediate problem between him and Abel was racial? Come on guys, stop going away from that, you can't make good speculations without it.
And in comic 654? Forgive my lack of knowledge of this one aspect, but there are probably 2 things that could contradict things:
1. That COULD be the cameo, though the cameo may just as well have been the head peeking at the bottom of the frame... I got confused there since I don't know the character. Either way, Abel would probably not beat a cameo to a pulp. Otherwise if I'm wrong like I probably am...
2. We've never seen any bipedal dragons yet, or dragons who took bipedal forms that were similar to their regular form, so I'm not sure if that one is, despite all the features.
You mean Pyro's bipedal form isn't like his quadrapedal form?
same long green hair style, same gold ring on the tail, same colour skin, same eyes...
Nope, nothing alike there. :-)

More likely:
[Door bursts open]
"Abel, what the Hell are you doing?!?"
"But he's a DRAGON! He'll kill us all!"
"A
dragon? Okay, carry on then."
..and that's if it's Dan - if it's Wildy who bursts in, all bets are off.
Wildy alluded to the idea that she knew Pyroduck was a dragon, or at least some form of powerful creature. Also, on the note of Pyro's bracers, I've looked through some of the old strips, and along with noticing how much crisper the comic has gotten within another 100 strips, it seems either he doesn't always wear them, or Amber sometimes forgets to put them in.

I was just saying that I don't think that this is what's going on.
Given that a.) Abel HATES the sight of blood normally, b.) there is a past history that even Pyro admits would be a cause for anger and c.) pyro was talking to abel in the first place to get/force him to go along with Wildy's humiliating crossdressing scheme, my vote of confidence is with Abel. Sure, he's most likely about to get his kiester handed to him, because the expression of indignation by a male is NEVER permissible without serious consequences in DMFA(other than maybe Pip), but I say more power to him for getting one shot in. It's probably more than Dan will do. As for the specific reasons why, I can wait for the expositional sequence.
