I like that "Nick" waited until it was clear that "Sally" was going to get violated before using deadly force. It reminds me of a news story run a while back where an ex-Marine or something was getting his home robbed when he heard the robbers begin to contemplate violating his wife. He then took out a loaded handgun and used it to get rid of the problem. According to the law in that state, (including the Castle doctrine stating that a man's is his castle so he better protect it like it is) he was well within his rights. Of course, I doubt that's going to mean anything in this case.
I do regret that we ran this story after these two appeared in the main comic - it was the result of a chance conversation. I don't imagine many people have read the original short story, though - it was actually quite hard to locate.
