Title: DUEL! with photo
Post by: Brunhidden on November 17, 2012, 02:56:39 AM
today i picked up my daughter Eowyn from second grade and found out something i have to share

early in the day she had seen a larger classmate picking on another student-     and then she decked him

the teachers were trying REAL HARD not to approve of this, because when the smallest kid in the grade pulls a fist of justice you don't want to discourage her. compromise is that her punishment is writing a letter of apology of at least three sentences

about three years ago i predicted where other kids will go 'swiper no swiping' as children's television has lied to them and get their butts kicked my daughter will instead pull a move she saw on the 1980s classic voltron.... and she did

my kids have awesome problems

There's no 'one-size fits all' response.  That's the lie of the modern disciplinary system.  Some thugs only respond to a 2x4 to the side of the head.

Fear is the only thing that makes them stop because they're too stupid for reason to penetrate their dense skulls and make it into the tiny, malformed brains they possess.   >:3

This.
I think a slovak saying fits it best. Hint to the clever one, kick the moron. And of course, the right way to handle problems is whatever works.

I grant you the point, but dispute that a playground is the best place to be making it. Start off with the fictionalised version, then water it down with real life. Children get jaded early enough anyway.

I have to say, it's impressive for someone small to pull off something like that.

Of course, it's not the only thing you need in life, there are a lot of other problem solving skills you'll need, each of which may apply in a different situation, but what she did certainly speaks a lot of her self confidence and sense of justice which is a good starting place.

All the best

Awesome. I wish I could have been there, it sounds like there's a big bunch of similarly minded folks.

I could have learned something. And burned off a heck of a lot of energy or something... ;-]
