I'm looking for people to do multiplayer. pm me if you're interested. the rest of this topic can be used to discuss how awesome the game is :mowsmile
Did they ever release anything besides IPX for Heretic? I recall someone working on a patch for Hexen, the sequel to Heretic, to have TCP/IP functionality, but not Heretic. And I am fairly sure IPX is just for local networks (searching for node . . . )
there's a program called doomsday (http://www.doomsdayhq.com), which
a:allows it to run with full functionality on newer computers, and
b: allows for tcp/ip multiplayer (games hosted on the doomsday server), so multiplayer is quite possible.
Sweet, they have Hexen too. Umm, maybe we can play. I'll have to either download it or find the old CD somewhere (Wasn't Heretic on floppys?).
I got mine on cd. but that was the shadow of the serpent riders version.
btw, check your email.
Allow me to dig up the old game somewhere. I know I have it on CD in one corner of my room. And then I'll get around to doing this.
On a minor side-note, Zdeamon is also a nice tool to use to get online... but that's for Doom only.
just pm me when you want to start.
I'd play but i'd get nowhere on dialup.
I also have Shadows of the Serpent Riders, and Doomsday. I need to find the CD though, because I think it went missing during the last reformat...I'll get back to ya. :D
It was fun to play again... Though I'm not sure if you'd like to play me in multiplayer. I can be really effective. >:3
's okay. I really don't care if I lose. heck, I'm happy if I even get a frag. I'm no stranger to better players.
btw, if we use doomsday, get the beta release 3, not 4. 4 aparently has problems.

Not one of my favourites, but quite a pleasing game nonetheless. I'll have to see whether Doomsday does a good job at running it, but it will probably break my chicken patch (which was made with Dehacked).
I've never officially released it, but the sound WAD is here:
http://www.jpmorris.force9.co.uk/music/test/chikken.zip
..basically it's a set of chickeny noises for the player actions. Some of these were taken from the default chicken, but there are several new ones I created with Goldwave.
My absolute favourite is the weapon-pickup sound, where I used a vocoder to make him laugh in this horrible, clucking voice.
**EDIT**
For those who've forgotten, run:
heretic -file chikken.wad
Wow, I thought people forgot about this game, I used to play this back in the day. ALOT!!!!
