Well I think I'll just lay on the floor here till I can get back on my feet. I laughed waaaaay too hard after that last panel.

For those letters, I'd say a ring modulator, Korg Monotron and an enormous amount of editing, I think.  Auditions are welcome :P
I really love Abel's reaction in the last panel...

They're a fairly secretive race.  If you read back to the description of clan Nact'larn, they're one of the most open about it, and they're all-female.

Also in Christian mythology, 'cubi were sexless and assumed a given gender in order to seduce someone.  (One of those other comics about 'Cubi also plays on this in about... 3 years time, only Dorcan takes it rather less well than Abel does here)

Well, the "say what" gag made me literally lol   ^_^

Let's see. Abel's wearing a skirt, which makes him cuter than Fa'Lina. He's visiting Jyrras, bachelor of the year. He's (obviously?) a cubi, who uses beds but don't sleep. Nope, no story there!

And yet again Abel is questioned about his gender, clothing and sexuality.

I don't know that the insectis knows enough about that sort of thing to put two and two together like that.  (S)he might assume that he's going for the 'scary cow lady'.

EDIT:  But that doesn't mean that the newspaper wouldn't.

How exactly does one keep a gender identity straight when one can change gender on a whim? Here I was wondering why all the list clan leaders were female or why Able liked skirts ...

I wonder what Cubi physicists make per hour?

Cubi don't really change genders, they just alter their bodies.

If you're born (or hatched, or whatever) with squiggly bits, then you're always going to be a squiggly, no matter what your body looks like.

Either way though, It sounds like a female name, though chances are, Amber might throw us a giant Curve-ball in terms of gender.

So lets see, We're gender confused about the insectis, the insectis is gender confused about Abel, and chances are, Abel is about as confused as we are.

To Cubi, I suppose that sort of thing is a little like cross dressing is to us. Some might genuinely feel more comfortable in the skin of the opposite sex. Some might shift for the lulz or some kind of sexual fetishry. Some might simply treat it as an elaborate costume. Some might find it creepy and just not do it. Some might even be flexible enough to shift back and forth on a whim.

(For some reason, I can't help picturing some otherwise hot-blooded heterosexual young Incubus discovering this ability for the first time--"HAHAHA! BEWBS!! AWESOME!!!") :animesweat

Hmm... I actually think most of that could be accomplished with creative acting performance. Just substitute some clicks, grunts, or other mouth/throat noises for certain phonemes.

I'll do a test run when I get home to my mic in a few days...

Ah, you started a new thread for this... Imagine my confusion. Or not.

The insectis is apparently speaking with his/her mouth (I'm guessing "her") and those mouth-parts are not perfectly adapted to the language they are speaking. Yep, certain sounds would be different... As if your lips were made of bone.

Real-life insects breath through vents in the sides of their abdomens, and so wouldn't be able to speak using their mouths, but DMFA isn't the real world. I'm happy with that.

Now the good part: Will Abel correct Chicki's assumption, or will he have a little fun with her confusion?

This would be the perfect time for Abel to alter his appearance to match someone else nearby, and start some really gloriously wild and confusing rumors. Abel doesn't like doing that sort of thing, but the temptation... "Okay, you've caught me..." (change).

I think that Chicki was probably already there (or at least close to the building) when Abel landed, and thus saw him shifting (or at least shifting his clothes).  That, plus the clan marking, is probably enough to come to the conclusion that 'he's a Cubi.'

Personably, I'm reasonably sure that Chicki is female, not so much from the name as from the way she looks, talks, and moves.  Those all just strike me as feminine.

Also, THAT'S a new Cubi-related rumor on me.  It's understandable, though. *gestures to what Tapewolf said about Nact'Larn*  I find it funny to see how their rumors have some vague semblance to the facts, but are obviously twisted, probably by the same effect as in the 'telephone' game.

I also just realized that the Insectis gave us her name.  And we all know what that means (http://missmab.com/Comics/Vol_070.php), right?

The radio project thing... Well, I haven't decided if I want to try for miss Insectis.  But assuming I do, I think I'll finish the other lines that I still need to do, first. ^_^;

Likewise, the thought of such bizarre voices demands recordings. Hopefully I can make the neighbors quiver with utter terror at the strange noises coming through their wall.

EDIT: *evil laughter!* Sadly, no one knocked to wonder what I was doing. I thought about making lots of odd mouth noises and syncing them to the recording, but that takes time and I am a lazy thingamabob.
Also, much thanks to Amber, I had quite a bit of fun getting the voice for the reporter. Strange characters are like candy for voice actors, slowly fattening us up until we become strange nerds you see at cons.

The sound byte reminds me of 'Morocco Mole (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkaUfa5Z4Do)'. Then again, I wonder what a life sized insect would sound like? (Being insects and all, most noise they make are shrill or relatively high frequency noise because of their small size.)

...I got two questions. One, why does everyone think she's now a cast member(I don't have a problem with than minus how her words slow me down) and B) Voice for her? Is this now a TV show? I'm confused beyond confused.

Sort of.  There is a voicing project, but it's gone a little quiet lately owing to the guy voicing Dan having RL issues.  In mid-arc, no less  :B

Generally when the storyline has been mixed down I assemble a slideshow against the soundtrack and post it on youtube, but I haven't done that yet, partly because production has stalled on that storyline and partly because I've been a bit too busy to remove all the speech bubbles from the comic.

I think this is clip is still one of my favourites:

Y'know, voicing an insectis would be tricky if you didn't have something to keep your lips stiff. Maybe you can tape a dowel rod over your lips or something like that to simulate the effect?

I notice Abel's wings have nearly disappeared in panel three, I wonder if he is doing that on purpose.

I hadn't noticed that.  It's going to be a bit difficult to say "No, I'm not a shapeshifter" now...

Naah, the wings are just slightly extended, like here:

It's his right wing (left side of panel) that makes me wonder.  It has to be at exactly the right angle for it to be hidden if he's not shifting it away.  I guess we'll know for sure in the next strip.

Yeah, see I don't understand what happened there STILL. Dan asks for his name, he says it, and Dan explodes. sorry, I'm still not understanding it.

Dan is assuming that Pyro's a Twink, and he doesn't want a recurring Twink character hanging around. Since giving the character's name (allegedly) assures him of a recurring role, Dan is upset because Pyro gives his name before Dan can stop him.

I can imagine, but it's nothing that good ol' technology can't help : D

Kind of funny, I have that exact same font Amber used for the Insect girl...I believe it was called "A Fine Damn Mess" or something like that.  :L

About the wings, We maybe reading too much into it. It maybe worth noting 'earzilla' and the change in Daniel's wings from issue one until now. I think perhaps Amber is using her right of "because I said so".

I think one is just half offscreen and the other is just hidden behind Abel's head & body.

Just get one of these

http://www.amazon.com/Multi-Voice-Changer-Toysmith-different/dp/B000FK3WDC

I had something like it as a kid, and one of the voices sounds alot like what you might figure a buzzing insect wound sound like speaking.
