As promised to some of you, this is the RubyQuest esque image by image adventure game that I have been working on for a bit now. It will function exactly as RQ has, with input from posters. That means you. So without further ado, let's start throwing people headfirst into the madness without rhyme or reason.
(Oh, and whether or not the images have full color will vary from time to time. Whenever I can spare the time.)
--
It doesn't come naturally to you.
You have to gather momentum, naturally.
Your mind will be bound by laws your body have long forgotten.
You will traverse purely physical spaces.
Life and death will see you pass, and weave you into the tapestry of time.
The angel carrying the greatest burden across the veil of reality.
The gaps between worlds will turn rough on you.
First, cold and bleak then, airless and silent.
Then, it would become difficult to discern time.
But nothing compared to the realms under.
The void pulses like a heart in your head, clawing at you with invisible fingers.
Beyond, are abstractions and abominations.
Universes left incomplete whose tiniest flaws have become unspeakable monsters.
Fields of flesh in pain and oceans of curdling blood.
The journey will go on for long after I die, further than the limits of your body and beyond.
The muscles of your body will lock, and the senses of your mind will die.
Your name and purpose leave you.
You will be sharpened to the nub of your will.
Then, no jolt nor shock. Nothing at all.
Destiny.

Now, wake up. I don't have eternity to live.
...
wooooooot. :woot
And it's "artificier's haven", and not "artificer's"? Interesting...
>Observe surroundings/situation?
Are your hands bound? Can you move?
>observe surroundings/situation
All around me, I see a vast field of white light as far as the eye can see. A feeling of weightlessness fills me, as if I have no body at all. The light consumes the very core of my being. Am I dead? Is this heave-- oh.
Oh, uhm.
I guess not.
>Are your hands bound? Can you move?
I'm still bound by several hundred thousand quintuple redundant magical wards specifically designed to prevent me from killing someone with my pinky finger. Aside from my head and my face, I cannot move at all.
Good, listen up, I'm going to shut off the field. I need you to helarrakr! Sounds of a scream abruptly cut off by blood in his throat could be heard, followed by a sickly wet explosion, then silence.
Well, clearly he isn't helping you anymore. Use ears to pick the locks and/or destroy crystal
Expect me to phase out coloring and stick to lineart sometime soon.
--
>Well, clearly he isn't helping you anymore.
Or did he?
A terrible gnawing and crunching sound from the east. Constant and abrupt. You start to hear the wind and all other machinations all around your prison. It would appear the crystal was silencing all other sounds except for the man's voice.
Clearly east sounds like a bad direction to go, what with the crunchy death and all. Maybe we should,
*looks down, sees pit*
Go east after all. Crunchy sounds good right about now.
>Go east.
It's awfully dark in the next room.
Hmm, so you're taking every individual poster input, rather than letting input from several users accumulate? (Or maybe you'll do that later, when there's actually more to do...)
And oh, it was supposed to be "Artificer"? Heh, no wonder I couldn't find anything in the dictionary...
>Examine the white speck, if it's not too dark? (or is that a solid wall?)
We'll settle on a voting system if there's more than one or two people playing.
Besides you, and Shades there is only one or maybe two other people I know who's interested. Nevermind that this game is pretty obscure as is. But don't worry, Haven is a pretty big place.
--
>Examine the white speck, if it's not too dark?
Strange, it's not so dark anymore.
Uh, what white speck?
>Poke the strange blue object in the background at about shoulder height, just a smidge beyond it's vertical edge (about where the white speck appeared to be, earlier)
>Tell me, do you know what a grue is?
(Sorry, had to... *runs away*)
Fffffffffffff there was distinctly a puddle of blood there a second ago! And who needs to be afraid of grues when there is Red. Look for a light switch!
>Poke the strange blue object in the background at about shoulder height, just a smidge beyond it's vertical edge (about where the white speck appeared to be, earlier)
That did nothing. Looks like this is a two way mirror.
>Tell me, do you know what a grue is?
I'unno. Is it something to eat? I'm a little hungry.
>Look for a light switch!
Light seems to follow me.
Punch it! Punch the mirror! Then attack anything on the other side!
Failing that go right.
>Punch it! Punch the mirror!
Unlike the crystal or the field, the mirror is real and surprisingly yields to a well aimed punch.
This hurts, though, with what the shards flying.
>Then attack anything on the other side!
It reveals a small guard room and armory. No one to attack, though, as it is deserted. Strangely, the guards didn't take the swords with them when they left.
Wield as many swords as you can.
Failing to wield any of them; Look at the letter. :P
>Along with the paper, examine the two bottles/vials in the table, but DON'T drink them! And of course, assuming we can climb over those shards safely...they look pretty dangerous. If we can't climb over without suffering injury, go right.
pocket a shard of the mirror, it might come in handy.
Attempt to enter the guardroom without cutting yourself. Say, by moving a little bit forward and checking for a door. If able to enter the room, read the note and examine the two liquids. If strong enough, take a sword.
I say Cog's action is the most well-worded :) And I'd go for adding Squirrel's action, too (This is a mirror and not a window? Yes, definitely (carefully) get a shard of it. Can peek around corners :3 )
> Say hello to the pumpkin.
Not a command per say, but is it safe to assume that the gal here has a sense of self preservation, and will attempt to avoid obvious methods of injuring herself?
Leap and tumble through the window, strike a pose!
After that down the red liquid and grab a sword! Read the note while your at it.
I second Shade's choice! Or, at the very least, poke the red liquid...
Noooo :dface
Yes to reading the note, maybe to grabbing a sword if it can be wielded, probably shouldn't jump the window unless it can be done without tripping, but absolutely no drinking the liquid, my little voice in her head says... :[
(in other words, + to squirrel and cog for self-preservation and avoiding obvious injury)
Now is the time for bold and rash action! :U
Float through the window so you don't cut yourself on the glass, and make sure not to step on any broken glass when you land.
Tear an inch of fabric off the bottom hem of your dress, and use it to tie your hair back. That way, it wont get in your face, and your hair would look pretty with a bow.
If you've cut yourself punching the window, remove any glass shards and heal yourself with magic. If you can't use magic, bandage yourself with some of the fabric.
Read the letter.
Smell the liquid cautiously, but don't drink it.
Take a sword with you if it's not too heavy to carry around for a while. If it is too heavy, break off a table leg and take that with you.
This will be the last one reply one action updates. Nominate actions, second them (and suggest alterations). She will voice herself, sometimes, as well.
---
>pocket a shard of the mirror
(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y253/theavatarbin/scene9.png)
>try to enter the armory (un)safely
The shards will snag on my robes, not to mention rake on my legs and body. There might be a way to minimize the danger with what I have.
>look east for an alternate path
(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y253/theavatarbin/scene10b.png)
>Tear an inch of fabric off the bottom hem of your dress, and use it to tie your hair back. That way, it wont get in your face
>If you can't use magic, bandage yourself with some of the fabric.
Done, sans bow. I can do without one, thanks.
>try to jerk the shards out of the frame, so that they don't rip you when crossing
Whitefox's idea led me onto something.
>Memory check. Do you know who you are, and if you have any special abilities? Why might you have been in that anti-magic cell?
In lieu of, or after, that...
>Examine the door (and the note on the door) to the east closer. You probably can't remove the jagged shards from the window without some kind of tool. Using your bare hands will probably tear them up...
>If the character is wearing boots or something similar to that fashion, they can perhaps use them by kicking away the remaining jagged shards that are still there in the window; just make sure the robes won't get caught when you do, by holding them some....
Kick the door.
Indeed. Who are we? Why are we here?
Also, before kicking the door down, check to see if it's unlocked. (that is a door, yes?)
>Who are you? What can you do?
I am Jeannette Caunant. I don't recall much of anything about myself. Last thing I knew I before I was imprisoned was that everything seemed to be black, white and red. No other colors. I was running across a hallway towards a light, and then, nothing.
I don't think I have anything special about me. And I don't believe I know any spells, or even ever dabbled in the arcane arts. Though, for some reason, I cannot forget the feeling of swords in both my hands. Funny, I don't remember ever wielding one, or learning how to wield one, and even less two at once.
>Examine the note
Egregious beyond appearances
4 letters, 1 word, a mechanical component.
Speak it.
>If the character is wearing shoes/boots, kick the shards of the mirror away.
I am, but I can't lift my legs up high enough without first either getting rid of my robes or tearing it in the middle to give leeway.
>Examine the door
>Kick the door
(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y253/theavatarbin/scene13.png)
It looks like a regular door with no visible locks, with a small box to the side with a crisscrossed metal casing. Giving the door a small kick yields a gentle push back. Something tells me kicking any harder will push me back harder.
>Use the collected shard to slit the robe, and make the room safe for entering. Then, use the mirror to check the far corner of the room before entering
listen carefully in case there is something that can't bee seen in the mirror but can be heard.
Better yet, instead of ruining your dress any further, why dont you just take your shoe off and knock the remaining glass shards out of the window with the shoe?
Use the shards of glass, the robe, boots, and a bit of blood to create a JUNKOTRON MISSILE and shoot the door.
Otherwise poke the metal casing.
Second squirrel's suggestion of simply taking a shoe off and using that to remove the last shards from the window. But before that,
second examine/poke metal casing as well. And add on to that...
4 letters, 1 word, a mechanical component.
Speak it.
>Gear?
4 letters, 1 word, a mechanical component.
Speak it.
(Metal) Gear?!
Also, examine the small box by the door.
Say gear?
> examine note
> read note
> examine door
> open door
> yell "surprise!"
... last one is optional, I just couldn't resist. ;-]
Okay, so I can't read the second page before responding. Whoops.
Uh.
> say "door"
>I also agree with SquirrelWizzard's suggestion of removing the boot to kick glass away.
>I also second both Techmaster's and Cogidubnus's suggestion that the word "Gear", is the answer to the clue or riddle on the note.
Sorry. I may need to change to lineart only sooner.

>Use boot on jagged shards
(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y253/theavatarbin/scene14.png)
Scraping the mirror off proves to be remarkably easy using this boot. The leather is strangely resilient against cutting or jabbing glass shards, and yet, it is really soft.
Jeannette decides it would be prudent to put it back on after using it.
>Check around corners with mirror shard
It is, unfortunately still coated with the semi reflective substance that makes up two way mirrors. With the light focusing on you and your surroundings you can't make out what's in the dark corners of the guard room. Though you do see someone or something in a corner.
Listening yields a rasping sound in the west corner close to where the mirror was.
>Gear.
That was.. easy?
Time to choose. Guard room, or unknown darkness?
(Oh man, what an awesome thread!)
> Scrutinize the guard room to see what the mysterious dark figure is. It'd be unwise to proceed forward without taking one of the swords for protection.
EDIT: Edited because I am fail at reading comprehension, apparently.
Well, that darkness isn't attacking itself now is it? Go into the guard room, grab many swords, read note while drinking red liquid. Then berserker rage at the darkness, tearing it limb from limb.
... Is Shades playing the same game the rest of us are playing?
I'm with Keaton. I'd say Put your head through the ex-mirror, and see if you can see what's in the dark corner. Note that this should be done as far away from it as possible. If there's nothing there, climb through and appropriate two of the swords.
After obtaining weaponry, look at, but do not touch (yet) the note and the drink.
BTW, good idea putting the boot back on. ;-]
>Thirds Keaton's idea
also, if possible, grip the bottom half the glass shard in a cloth wrap and use the shard as a knife before acquiring the swords. If the strange thing in the darkness is hostile, having some weapon ready is better than none, after all.
i have to back Keaton on this is well it seems like a good ideal to make sure you're not leaving you back open to attack

Possibly not.
After putting on the boot, don the TURQUOISE JEWELRY and climb onto the UNICORN. ASCEND into the HEAVENS.

But there is someone there.
try not to freak out and figure out if what's there is a threat to you.
> Grab swords first, then investigate. If the wound is as bad as it seems, the figure is probably already dead. If he/she is -not- dead, try and ask the most obvious of questions, A: "Where are we?" (wait for reply) B: "Who are you?" (again, wait for reply) and C: "what is going on, here?"
Do you know what the rune means or symbolizes?

Seconded.
Stop listening to the ShadesFox, trust the WhiteFox.
The first order of business is to secure the room. To do that, grab a sword off of the wall, and search the room thoroughly. If you find something that looks like it wants to do you harm, hit it with the sword till it stops. After you have made sure the room is free of any lurking baddies, go see what the condition is of the person crumpled in the corner. If they are non responsive, search their body for anything useful. Finally, if they're dead, strip them of their robes, and cut away any blood stains with the mirror shard (mind the sharp edges). Its dirty, but having some extra cloth handy other than your dress would be helpful.
He looks dead, if not unconscious and not capable of interfering with whatever you're about to do. Sneak inside, being as quiet as possible, and take one of the swords. Gingerly inspect the body slumped against the wall.
STEAL THE SWORDS, DO IT LIKE A BOSS.
Obey the ShadesFox~
He is probably the one who helped you earlier. Show him respect and thank him. He he still lives then bro fist as well.
After that poke the holo projector.
I second the general gist here.
>Go through and take a sword or two (IF they are not to heavy for Jeanette to wield), then cautiously inspect the body. If alive, ask the obvious questions. If not, (carefully!) search for anything useful. He is indeed likely the voice who was helping earlier...
>Grab and wield as many swords as you can, if they're not heavy.
Huh. They're amazingly light.
>Investigate the cloaked figure.
Okay I-- what?
>Go sword first to investigate the scene where the body was, If no clues appear, investigate the liquids on the table
>Place the tip of your sword on it's neck, and demand it to tell you if it's alive. If it does not respond, jab it in the arm, wait if it yells out, and only then, check for a pulse.
Check see if the blood is fresh and see if it has smeared.
Check the ceiling for air vents, if there are any, don't stand directly under them.
Wield your swords and explore the room keeping against the wall - there might be either a zombie or whatever killed who you have seen running around
Look for a blood trail.
(Edit: I suppose this is a variation on what ShadesFox is suggesting. If both your shoulder-foxes suggest the same thing, you know it has to be a good idea.)
be prepared for the sneak attack that's coming.
I wonder what's happened to the GM...been 10 days since the last update :<
