Title: History of fillers [Now with archive! See Reply 8 below]
Post by: D R Dracowolf on November 18, 2009, 02:34:39 PM
I haven't been around long enough to seen many fillers but would it be possible to have a thread of the various filler art and strips that have shown up over the years since the filler archive hasn't been updated in forever. Now I'm sure Amber's busy doing... stuff, and hasn't has time to update. So would it be too much to ask for a few links to the more memorable fillers?

Wasn't sure where to put this but it is DMFA related.

EDIT: As I say below, I do mean the fillers for con-days, guests, and laziness that haven't made it into the archive yet.

Heh, I think that right now Amber is busy becoming Canadian.

The Auld Grump, we will know the process is complete when she starts a topic for hockey, eh?

Between becoming one of us (Canadian), her constant computer troubles, the backlog of owed art, her constant illness and trying to have a life.... I think Amber is sufficiently busy for the next little while.

Also, I would like to take this time to tell my fellow forumites to take your Canadian Stereotypes and place them somewhere physically uncomfortable for yourself.  They're getting old.

As for the fillers.. there really haven't been that many, as often times the outages are pretty short notice.  The ones that are have been posted in the forum here for the most part, but may be a bit hard to find due to the nature of the threads.  Though a cursory search with the word 'filler' for Lost Lake Inn turned up quite a few hits so you might be able to get what you're looking for that way.

If you're including Questions from the Readers, there's a list of those on the wiki:
QFR and other informational comics (http://dmfa.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_%22Questions_from_the_Readers%22_and_other_informational_comics)

There's some guest fillers, which are here:
http://missmab.com/Comics/Arch_Bonus.php
...but I don't think they're particularly up-to-date.

Aside from that I've downloaded most of the fillers but not put them in any order so it'll be difficult to find them.  You'd need someone even more archival than me, like Robbie for that.  I do have copies of a few, though.

This was done by Icarus:

This is one of my all-time favourites and was done just as Aniz was trying to find a backup plan:

I've looked through the on-site archive and bonusy material and that's all either in its own section, or part of the regular arc archive. I did mean the more recent guest filler and con-filler, and <insert amber's excuse for not updating today> fillers of more recent years such as the two you provided.

Sometimes, however, it would be really nice if there was ftp access with a bright flashy folder that stood out with large arrows pointing at it reading "What you want, is in here!"

There is one filler in particular that I'd like to see in original size (if possible,) the Angry Dan filler. I'm guessing it was posted sometime after Regina smashed his face with the food tray.

I remember being linked to a directory on the site in which all the old fillers resided.

Until then:

In all fairness - every single Canadian I know (a whopping five samples) does talk about hockey. A lot. Mostly when the Maple Leafs are losing. Less when the Leafs are winning.

Four out of five do use the interrogatory 'eh?', and one explained its general meaning as 'make a noise, so I know your listening'. An acceptable noise in return was 'eh.' He was of the opinion that the closest U.S. equivalent was 'dude'. (?) I think that I am missing a cultural reference in regards to 'dude'.

So, I suspect that eh' might be a Toronto thing, since number five is from the Maritimes. He also talks about hockey less, with comments along the lines of 'that's because the Maple Leafs suck!' Number four is from Ottawa. I have no idea what hockey team,if any, he favors, and for all I know may be talking about hockey because that is what everyone else in the apartment is talking about. All are going to school at USM, and share an apartment/house.

None have Quebec accents, and only John, from the Maritimes, ever uses French.

Which all just means that the Canadians I know fit the pattern that seems to be the U.S. perception of Canadians, not that a majority of Canadians fit the stereotype.

Translation: Sorry, I really don't know that much about Canadians, just those five, and will try to watch out for generalizations in the future.

Me I'm from Maine, and hardly ever inhale my 'ayuh'.

The Auld Grump, but those from the county will tell you that Portland ain't Maine.

*EDIT* To break up the stereotype, three of the five play roleplaying games, which is how I know them, I run a game at their house because they have a lot more room than I do. John, Jon, and Julie used to LARP, and are in my steampunk game. And yes, Julie talks about hockey too.

*EDIT 2* After running games for them I sometimes find myself using 'eh' as well. It's contagious.

<_< >_> Yes, you got me. Though, while I am an archival sort of person, I am not exactly organized. Fortunately, scripts are handy for this sort of thing, so...

This should be all the fillers/other non-comic stuff between 09/08/2008 and the present day. The date-found is when I saved it, down to the minute. All links are from Missmab.com, let me know if any are broken.

<_< I'm hopeless.

That's very impressive, and I don't know what to say except it being very impressive.

And exactly what I was looking for.

Okay, I've transcribed this into the wiki:
http://dmfa.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_guest_strips_and_other_filler

If anyone has dates and links for earlier ones, that would be great.  I'm not sure when the AS intermission was first run, though I could probably work it out.

I find it slightly worrying I already have most of these fillers saved.

That you like fillers?
