what do i need to do to be able to use an avatar to represent me?
i have the picture and i have resided it but i cant get a url of it from deviantART
help would be appreciated

I'm not certain if DA has a webshell, but if they do you won't be able to host it there for use here.
However, if you can (someone else would likely know that better), the avatar options are in the user profile settings. It's fairly straightforward from there.
I'm pretty sure DA use anti-thievery stuff that means you can't link from somewhere else to your DA images.
You have to access them from the DA page, in other words.
What you probably want to do is host the image on photobucket or imageshack or something like that, and then add the link in the usual way, as Darkmoon says, to the user profile. It's usually under the "profile" link across the top of the page...
