Title: Alpha Protocol - Infostuffs
Post by: TheJimTimMan on July 23, 2009, 02:36:30 PM
While those of you following the game will likely have already seen these, I found some trailers (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/07/23/safe-as-houses-new-alpha-protocol-walkthrough/#more-15081) on Rock, Paper, Shotgun showing off safehouses and some of the more story-based gameplay elements this morning.

The game looks very interesting, certainly one to keep an eye on (and pray it doesn't go completely mad somewhere in the development process...).

Edit: removed illegal wording.

That game does look rad.

If I had the money I'd buy it as well as a lot of things.

I like the most the way you have to talk in this game, it gives you a period of time to think of your responce before going with what you have selected, that way there are no long pauses during conversation. Like in Mass Effect.

Mass Effect's long pauses gave you time to think things through, a lot of the choices made in the mid-mission conversations shown so far have required twitch decision-making skills (that could have hilarious consequences in-game should you make a mistake, ie pressing the wrong button just before the timer runs out), which could play against you in places where you need that extra time; also it looks like the timer runs out just as the character finishes speaking, something else that could play against you when brains over brawn is required.

Gameplay stuff aside, I reckon it's about time we got a new style of RPG going, one that moves away from the old notions of Good Vs Evil and goes for something less generic and more plot-flexible. Hell, something that just scraps alignment altogether and just goes for fun factor (why, hello there, Borderlands...).
